They were loyal to the Empire, but the Empire was not loyal to them ...
Montezuma was an isolated world, of interest to no one, until an interstellar corporation discovered vast resources of rare materials under the surface, just waiting to be extracted and sold. The corprats legally stole the planet, crushed the native dreams of independence and brought in vast numbers of outsiders to mine the rough-hewn world, leaving poverty, pollution and deprivation on an unimaginable scale in their wake.
But now the Empire has fallen and the corporation has betrayed its workers, abandoning them to fight or die on an unforgiving world …
A good story. Christopher's The Empire's Corps books have been an enjoyable read. He describes the downfall of the Empire with enough detail to allow you to visualize what is going on but doesn't get dragged down in the weeds where you are slogging through the description.
The action in this book keeps you reading and wondering what will happen next.
An old story of immigrants and natives following the easier path of hatred, wrapped in a futuristic dystopian galaxy. It makes you think about some of the conflicts and hatreds of today and how we seem to keep ratcheting up the hatred and vice, trying to find ways to live together.
The 22nd book in the series continues the excellent (there are typos) series that originally followed the Marine Corps' attempts to fight the fall of civilization when the Earth government collapsed. All the books are really good. The last several books have been about individual systems and how they have reacted to the fall of the central goverment. This tale takes place on a corporation hellworld when the corporation pulls out. Read it.
I felt the story line was one that had been used before only instead of two factions fighting it was three and a lone marine who helped save on of them. I have been read all the Empires Corps books and would have liked to have seen Chris at least have started to try and reunite the two marine forces that were split to start with. This book is another going off on a tangent with no doubt a second to follow.
Another really good "Empire's Corps book. The series is overdue for this book. The entire series is rich in opportunities for additional books. I would really like to see Chris return to this series with additional books
Really enjoyed this latest chapter of the Empire Corps, looking forward to the next book, Christopher Burrell is an excellent author, I have enjoyed all the 22 books of this series.
A mirror to the modern world. History repeats itself, never quite the same, but never that different either. Nuttall is like the one eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. Read and enjoy, but also read and learn.
Excellent military science fiction series. Griping action and multi faceted characters by the author has led to an exciting and thought provoking book. Another great installment in the Empire’s Corps series.
Excellent read action character development intrigue political thinking. This is a standalone book you do Not need to read previous books in the series. The story centers around two sides both being betrayed by the Empire. It is fast pace read I highly recommend it.
Love his writing BUT you never know when he is going to pull a 1950 on you! Inside reference that if you are a long time reader you will understand. Enjoy it!
