When Mickey chooses to sail beside Hugh on a trial basis under a captain who runs a ruthless ship, once-reliable lines pull taut and snap beneath their feet.
Hugh is desperate to prove to Mickey that things will be different this time, but safety aboard a freshly created pirate brig is always uncertain. Beneath a captain who tries his prickly nature, Hugh's control is constantly tested.
Trying to balance his desire to protect Mickey with his dedication to the crew, especially as his best friend, Bennett Holt, wars with his own demons, is almost enough to make Hugh snap.
Being a father was something Mickey never knew he wanted until he held his daughter. But the love of a man like Hugh is something Mickey has always searched for. He's never been good at making decisions, and this is the hardest of his life. In a world unaccepting of his love for Hugh, the safety and reputation of his infant daughter rests heavily on his shoulders. If he chooses his own happiness and remains aboard Sneaky Lass with Hugh, all could be lost for the family he left on land.
In the lawless career of piracy, where success hinges on a fearsome reputation, the crew must decide where they will draw the line between fairness and criminality. Mickey, Hugh, and the crew of Sneaky Lass struggle to come to terms with their place under the shadow of a black flag.
CW: Mentions of attempted suicide, alcoholism, and piratical violence
All I have to say is WHY?? Why Kennedy WHY?? I think you may even be laughing at my anguish. If you haven’t read the rest of MZ Kennedy Sutton’s works you may not realize, but she likes to break her readers hearts and then just tap dance on the shattered pieces. I hold some the these characters way too close my own broken parts and would love to see them all have their happy endings, Mickey, Hugh, Ben, even Eaton for all his flaws. I’ll be back with more once I can actually think through the time I got to spend with some of the lovely characters again.
This book is near to my heart, speaking of hard choices that must be made. I have read it more than once, loving it more each time. I cannot recommend this series enough.
Reunited at last, Hugh and Mickey have hard choices to make. Hugh has done his best, but can any place be safe enough for a love like theirs? Bennett Holt struggles with inner demons that he must somehow appease or they will end him. I loved seeing how this broken young man finds his own redemption and foreshadows the man he becomes. Also, this much-anticipated book introduces Pax the Carpenter, who is by far the most underrated character in the series.
Kennedy Sutton is the real deal, one of my favorite authors of all time. She breathes life into her characters, who reflect the complexity of people who are each flawed and beautiful in their own way. This is not your typical romance, she will take you on a journey that will both break your heart and heal it again.
A wonderful conclusion to this series. Hugh and Mickey are reunited at last... and Hugh is finally able to make amends for the mistakes he made before.
Oh Hugh. A stubborn man. But oh does he love Mickey more than anything and I LOVE this book for showing his personal growth. And Mickey, having to make the hardest decision. It was TENSE.
Now, don't get me started on Ben. I was in tears throughout this book when Ben was going through his struggles. Knowing where his story goes eventually, I knew he would survive but I was shocked about how visceral of a reaction I had to his struggles in this book. I need to go reread happy chapters in later books to remind myself he is happy eventually.
Kennedy Sutton is a wonderfully talented author. She is able to write a story that sucks you in completely. I can't wait to see what she does next.
I was not prepared for how much I would love this book! the end of one era and the beginning of something spectacular...gahhhh, I AM OBSESSED!!!
All of the struggles Hugh and Mickey went through in this series really makes me appreciate their Love story even more when you read about it in the OG Silver Locket Series. I am ready for a reread with brand new eyes regarding Hugh, Mickey and even Ben.
The thing with both of these series is that Kennedy Sutton did such a fantastic job with foreshadowing everything in both series blends together so seamlessly that you could start with either series first and the outcome would still be the same...nothing spoiled, filled with adventure, disaster, heartbreak, and love. These books will forever hold a place in my heart and on my bookshelf!
The beautiful and exciting conclusion to the Silver Locket Origins Series by Kennedy Sutton. Continuing the dramatic love story of Hugh and Mickey, once they are reunited after months apart and Hugh’s desperate search across the seas for the man he loves. While trying to keep his brother in heart Bennett Holt, from imploding and the darkness swallowing as they continue their journey into the world of piracy. Will Mickey let their love continue or are they doomed to be apart forever upon returning to Aloutte and Mickeys daughter.
I couldn’t put this story down I laughed, I cried, i stressed over the fates of these beloved characters
A Disaster's Wake is the conclusion to the Silver Locket Origins Series, and I’m both saddened and excited to see it end, knowing that the story continues in the Silver Locket Series, and I can enjoy rereading the series now. I was completely engrossed in this book, just as much as I was with the original books, and it left me craving more!
The story of Mickey and Hugh’s past is now complete. Kennedy Sutton has crafted a tale that will rip the readers heart out but leave them begging for more. She writes vividly creating deep emotional connections with her characters. She leaves the stage perfectly set for the Silver Locket Series.
This book gave so much insight to who Mickey and Hugh become in Kennedy Sutton's Silver Locket Books. Ben, too, though to a lesser extent since he's more a side character in this series. It's a perfect blend of giving this couple and trilogy its standalone happily ever after while making me want to pick up The Sneaky Lass and start reading it with all this new information and fresh eyes!
I'm really glad the author decided to make this a trilogy. We deserved time to see Hugh and Mickey happy.
I love this book. The trilogy makes you fall in love with all of the characters, and then some how even more so in this one. This book is full of so many heart touching moments that just make you melt.
I am a big fan of reading things in order by publication, but these are written so well and so complimentary to the main series that there is a lot to gain from reading them in order by publication or in order chronologically to the story.
I will always greedily read anything Kennedy Sutton writes. I can’t imagine they will ever fail to produce an amazing story every time.
i finished this book before work and i’m only getting round to writing my review, but i have to say that i have not been able to get this book off my mind all day. i thought this was a beautiful finish to the trilogy surrounding hugh and mickey. i loved that they were able to be themselves on the ship, they deserved to express their love for each other and they finally have a place to do it.
this book and this story may never be a classic, but i will always hold it close to my heart and always remember it. such a beautiful ending to a wonderful story.
LOVED the conclusion to this series. It had so many beautiful moments in it. I must suffice myself with reading everything in this author's catalogue at warp speed.
I am on to the seven book series that, apparently, has these same guys in it. I NEED more of them. And I want to see Ben happy. I will crawl on my hands and knees to his happy ending! **puts on kneepads** I'm going to need them if this author intends to keep hurting me.
This book had me in ALL the feels. I have loved Mickey from the very beginning and this the origins series has taught me that high is so much more complex than I realized. I can’t say enough about Kennedy and her creative genius. The silver locket books with forever be my favorites and I can’t wait to see what else Kennedy give to her readers ♥️. Don’t miss out on this.
Man. This book. I found the more i read, that Hugh and Mickey were n o t made for each other with how different they are. But they make it work. Mickey sure has more patience with Hugh and his nonsense than I ever would. We get to see some ups and downs of their relationship, Captain Eaton finally accepting Mickey (kind of), and more of how Ben came to drink so much (in my thoughts anyway)~ please read this and enjoy. It’s soooo good!
Picking up where book 2 ends we know see Hugh and Mickey reunited. Book 3 follows them reconnecting and Mickey deciding whether or not to stay on Sneaky Lass and continue a life of piracy with Hugh.
What a fantastic ending to Mickey and Hugh's prequel series. For those who wanted more of Mickey from the Silver Locket Series this is for you. From book 1 of the series to book 3 Kennedy keeps us readers on our toes and in our feels the whole way through.
UGH THESE BOYS. I love this world so much. Sweet baby Ben I love him so dearly. I just want to give him the biggest hug. The way Mickey took care of him made my heart explode. Mickey really is the best boy and my favorite character in the entire silver locket universe. You can 100% bet I shed tears finishing this beautiful ARC.
I haven't finished this one yet. So far it's very... VERY.... disappointing. The romance is just taking such a backseat. Don't even get me started on the second book's romance 😡. But the first book was so good!!!! Idk, I may come back to this one but as for now it was just too daunting to pick it up and continue.
Wistful sighs and sails, I am absolutely smitten with these characters. This book felt a bit more full cast than the others and I feel like that it is the perfect segue into the Silver Locket series. (maybe I'm just becoming partial to Ben) So good. Recommend. Melancholy pirates, adventures, a sprinkle of romance, just an overall solid love story.
I'm not really sure if my heart can take any more from Kennedy Sutton. This trilogy has been amazing to read. Hugh and Mickey are my favorites and are characters I would love nothing more than to hug and hang out with while chatting. The perfect ending for this trilogy!
Kennedy has done it again! I have yet to come across a book of hers I didn’t like! The story draws you in, breaks you down but loves putting you back together!
What to even say? This book was breathtaking. Having already read the Silver Locket series, this prequel book did a better job than I could ever have hoped for at foreshadowing things from the main series while simultaneously tying up this Origins series with a neat bow and bridging the gap between who these characters were 2 books before and who they become years later. Genuinely outstanding work. The writing is very good, but the best part is the display of behavior, thought process, and human nature that brings the characters along throughout the story. Everything feels natural and fluid. Seamless. Pax couldn't do a better patch job. It won't be everyone's cup of tea (it's heavily emotional), but if you made it to book three then I think you'll adore this conclusion. I ferociously loved it.
Gah! I didn't think I would love Hugh and Mickey's story as much as I did. These characters have my whole heart! Such a heartbreakingly beautiful love story with real and raw emotion and of course the piracy keeps things interesting! Thanks so much for allowing me to read this story.
