really really interesting read!

i think that a lot of the set up and world building that made the first book feel a little clunky to read at times really paid off here - like the world building finally settled and pieces started falling into place and it started feeling really natural as a backdrop!

i think the plot hit the right spots, and it did go in the direction that i thought it would - but i think some moments fell a little flat. After the cliff hanger at the end of the last book, we get a little jump forward, and things almost seem to just go really smoothly. I liked how the plot had some twists in it, but i think that these twists could have been followed through to get a stronger and more emotionally compelling storyline. don’t get me wrong - it’s still really well built - but i wish Eddie wasn’t a perfect character.

It’s hard to really want to root for him - things just happen and fall into place far too easily for him. Yes he works for things, but nothing ever goes wrong for him. He always picks the right choice, always anticipates the next move perfectly. I think if there was a little more play on things going wrong for him the narrative would have become just that bit more compelling for me - and I think it would have made things much more interesting too to have to worry about not just the trial but betrayal, heartbreak or something else too.

the ending satisfies the story - and i think the ending remarks were really interesting to think about. it’s very unapologetic but it matches well with the story and character. it’s the kind of outcome i saw and didn’t see coming at the same time - but it was done very well.

Riveting, captivating and unlike anything I've read before!
The style of storytelling is really unique and transports you between different timeframes. There are lots of tense moments that keep you on the edge of your seat, combined with intriguing back stories and a surprising twist.
A wonderfully written sequel that was well worth the wait!
