On the Way to Bethlehem: An Advent Study

Rate this book
The journey to Christmas begins in Rome.

On the Way to Bethlehem follows the long journey to Christmas. The story begins in Rome with a decree issued from the seat of worldly power for a census, setting into motion events leading to the birth of the Savior of the world in a town that represents the very opposite of worldly power, Bethlehem.

Author Rob Fuquay provides insight into the geographical and historical significance of Rome, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem, along with the important characters through whom the Christmas drama unfolds. You will be drawn into those places in a way that helps you experience the spiritual truths each location holds. The reflection we give in these places prepares the heart and soul to experience wonder, awe, mystery, and joy.

Advent Bible Study book

This book was a little boring for me. It told the history of Jesus birth through geographical landmine history which I am a fan of neither. It didn't help that the advent leader was not enthusiastic or offered more. His presentation like the book was lackluster

Interesting take on the way we look at the time leading up, during and after Jesus' birth -- and a reminder that many of the circumstances 2,000 years ago still exist in our world. Rome controlled much of the lives of people in Galilee; who makes laws that impact us all today? Why was Mary, from a small wide-spot-in the road chosen as the mother of Christ? And why were the shepherds told of the birth -- but not the leaders of the church or government? The book inspired some good discussions/

This was a new and unique way to tell the story of Jesus's birth. Mr. Fuquay talks about four cities, Rome, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem, and how they are linked to Christmas. He talks about each city as it was around Jesus' birth and some personal observations of the town today. Interesting way to tell the Christmas Story.

Well written, easy to read, full of historical information.
The ending certainly provokes thinking of our Persia.
Privileged to hear Pastor Rob preach through Advent and provide more insight to On The Way to Bethlehem.

Some interesting stories. The journey was a fun way to basically retell the advent story, but I struggled with pulling it all together most of the time. Very repetitive. A super short easy read.

Our church followed this book through Advent. I really liked the approach of focusing on the ancient towns in the christmas story. There were some great insights and stories to go along with them.
