This was très creepy .... and freaky .... and altogether awesome!

Ouija boards - I don't care how many times they pop up in books or movies, you just KNOW something very bad is going to happen. 😈😱
My first read by this author, (and it certainly won't be my last) the book is a taut psychological paranormal tale centring around a troubled relationship, belief and guilt. And the ending - OH MY, THE ENDING - you won't see it coming! An exhilarating and frightening read (Ouija boards scare the beejezus out of me) that I could not put down and stayed up all night reading.

I received a free ecopy of this novel from the author via a Bookfunnel giveaway. I have voluntarily chosen to review the book and the gifting in no way influences my review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

Just Okay...

It seemed to be a great recipe for a jarring plot.... But then I felt it lost its momentum and fell flat for me.

Great story of guilt and supernatural!

For a short while during the book, I thought it would be a four star, but it quickly picked up and made up for those issues in spades! And the further you go, the better! And the ending - I can't prepare you! I no doubt will be on the sequel asap! (I think there is one, I am certainly hoping!)

This was a great book. I finished it at work on my breaks because I could not stop reading. The end took me by complete surprise and my mouth is still hanging open a little. The only thing I did not care for at first was with the 2 main characters, Daniel and Jess. Daniel was so passive and Jess so domineering. But, my mind was changed in the end. I'm not great at reviewing books. All I can say is it Rocked!! Thank you Mr. Seiple - total fan of your paranormal books.

Which is worse, human evil or Supernatural elements? Human cupidity, concupiscence, and rage, or demonic manifestations? Readers of THE DARK STUFF will have a plethora of opportunities to ponder these questions, as the nature of demonic infestation dances a fine line with evil that is purely of human conception. This novel of Supernatural Horror will really appeal to those who consider the Spirit Board (Ouija) not a toy, but a tool of the demonic and an open invitation to Evil.

I quite readily emphasized with protagonist Daniel; he really tries. Unlike a few of the other characters! Daniel recognizes his foibles and strives to overcome. In fact, his dedication is practically unending; many individuals would have given up long before. The outcome abd denouement were unexpected, but ultimately satisfying in terms of poetic justice. (Don't read ahead!)

Stop me if you've heard this one before....... someone finds an old ouija board and decides to play around with it. A spirit comes through, but they soon find out that the spirit they contacted is not who it claims to be. Things take a dark turn and soon they are fighting for their lives and sanity. Oh? Heard it before? Yeah, me too. So this book gets no points for originality. It stole ideas and pasted them together into a new story. Even the big surprise at the end has been done many times before and done much better. Add to that relationships that just don't make sense and people behaving in blatantly stupid ways, and it all makes this book a good one to skip.

A very enjoyable "beware the Ouija" book with a delicious twist (or two) at the end. Daniel is a very likable character. His girlfriend, with her emotionally abusive ways and various tantrums....not so likable. You are reminded several times that "demons lie". As humans we all have our demons and so I guess that makes us all liars, some more than most. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter foreshadow the story, and I found myself connecting these quotes to the ways of the world (and politics) today.
I've found a new author to follow in Paul Seiple and have subscribed to his website for his free books (Yay!). I look forward to more from him.

Didn’t finish this book.,

What started out as an interesting story was not well written and the lack of continuity and clarity made for frustratingly unstable characters, all of them. Too quickly more and more characters are revealed only adding to the confusion. This writer needs more lessons and sounds like a real beginner.

I usually don’t read “horror” stories but the plot of this one intrigued me. I wasn’t disappointed as it was a face-paced read with a number of unexpected twists.

The final chapter caught me completely off guard but only added to the enjoyment of the book.

You might want to consider reading this book with the lights on!

Enjoy!!

4-stars can mean anything to pretty good to very good to me; I will rate 3 I read it all. This was a good blend of paranormal & psych horror, but it could have used some polish.

Loved It

Daniel thought to scare Jess with the Spirit Board. But he opened a portal for something to come in. Something sinister and evil that would haunt both Jess and himself. Shocking twist at the end. Read in one sitting. Will definitely recommend to friends and fellow readers. Great job Mr. Seiple.

Twisty

Daniel is in love with a girl named Jess but has noticed that she has been distant from him of late. He tries to rekindle a spark by offering to play with a spirit board he found in his attic while cleaning. But what comes when they call may not have ever been human. Now the relationship is going even more south but will they survive the experience or will become what they tried to communicate with?

Ok..the characters were people that I personally could not stand. Jess is a major Bee and Daniel comes as a close 2nd to a lap dog. They seem to have the most toxic relationship and yet I could not stop reading...it's like standing on a hill over a road and seeing two cars driving recklessly towards one another...you can't stop it from happening and yet you can't stop watching it unfold either. There is a twist at the end and I truly enjoyed the journey as well as the destination and I really think you will too. Pick this up..it's good!!

The Dark Stuff by Paul Seiple

Daniel Haley, having some problems with his girlfriend Jess, decides to scare her with a Ouija board. Only problem is, he is hiding secrets from Jess. What he doesn't expect is to unleash some very dark things.

Every one has secrets, although for Daniel they come back to haunt him in ways he never imagined. What started as a fun prank turns to terror in this fast paced thriller. I highly recommend The Dark Stuff to those who love a chilling story.

While the story idea is really good and the book has a lot of potential it needs a proofreader and an editor to pull it together and tighten the wandering ideas.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from the author and this is my honest and freely given opinion.

Interesting

Not the best book I have ever read but certainly not the worst either. By the half way point I was more annoyed than entertained. The end was a definite surprise!
