Sassy Belles #4

Saved By The Belles

Rate this book
Life is finally wonderful for Tuscaloosa’s Blake O’Hara Heart: a rekindled love affair with her high school sweetheart and a precious new baby on the way. But when she gets an unexpected call from Harry Heart, her soon to be ex-husband, Blake’s new sweet world is turned upside down. Harry vows his love – but soon Blake discovers he is running from a sex scandal—one that could ruin Harry, the freshman senator from Alabama, and bring down Blake right along with him.

Blake is in a fix so she does what any southern woman would do: she rounds up her Sassy Belle sisters to try to prove Harry’s innocence. Blake, Vivi and Dallas band together to fix this scandal and get that man back to Washington if it’s the last thing they do. But Blake is running out of time. Her new baby is waiting for no one as Harry’s new political career is hanging in the balance.

From a trailer-park brothel to the high-society neighborhoods of Tuscaloosa, y’all grab your best girlfriends and some sweet tea and join Blake and her girls on this twisted tale of intrigue and hilarity, southern-style.

Those sassy southern gals are at it again in Beth Albright's latest installment of her Sassy Belles series, "Saved By The Belles."

Albright takes her readers back to the lively action in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where the Sassy Belles - Blake, Vivi and Dallas - are always in the center of any happening. This time the very pregnant Blake is contacted by her soon-to-be ex-husband Harry Heart who desperately needs her help to save him from a very sticky situation that could endanger his political career. Blake is reluctant - she just wants to have her happily-ever-after life with the love of her life, Sonny - but she relents when she finds out Harry's mess could drag her name in the mud too. So she rounds up her bestie and her sister, and between the three of them ... well, any no-good-doer had better watch out when the Sassy Belles are on the job!

I just absolutely adore Beth Albright's stories about the Sassy Belles. As someone who loves the Deep South, and Tuscaloosa in particular, it's a true delight to read about the familiar landmarks that are featured in these stories. And the characters that frolic through these tales, those classy, brassy gales, are sure to become as dear as your favorite family and friends.

"Saved By The Belles" is a delightful novella that serves as a candy-coated treat to satisfy fans of Albright's books, a delicious read to hold the reader until the next fun-filled book comes along! Perfect for a mid-winter pick-me-up!

Didn't like it. It's really hard to read a book when you're constantly being distracted by so many spelling mistakes(even easy words were spelled wrong). I didn't like the story either, just so ridiculous. I cannot believe that people are really like that.

I rarely ever say that I "hate" a book. And I didn't hate this one.

What I hated was the complete and utter lack of an editor. I mean, come on. "Steal" blue eyes? A "waist" of time? Pulling off a "coo," not a coup? Does this so-called "writer" have any idea that the words she used don't mean what she thinks they mean? Is she just stupid, or did her editor take the day off when she received this book for corrections?

Not only that, but there is no differentiation between "your" and "you're" throughout the book. I can't even begin to count the times those words were used incorrectly. They are NOT interchangeable.

And don't even get me started on the punctuation. A third-grader wouldn't make these elementary punctuation mistakes. I don't believe this woman actually calls herself a "writer." All of the mistakes in the book are mind-boggling. I was embarrassed for Albright.

No, these things didn't spoil the story. It was cute, funny in some places, and it had a sweet ending. That is the ONLY reason I gave it two stars. Simply for the likable story.

But all of the mistakes in word choice and punctuation kept throwing me out of the flow of the story until I couldn't even enjoy it. Beth Albright needs to invest in a good editor, PRONTO. The one she has is obviously out to lunch on a permanent basis and incapable of doing the job.

Blake O’Hara Heart is walking on cloud 9! Life is good- life is good like the best ice cream sundae with the most decadent sprinkles on top!

Blake is 8 months pregnant with her rekindled love, Sonny, child, is weeks away from divorcing her husband Harry- who is in serving the great state of Alabama as a senator in Washington, DC. Vivi, Blake’s BFF, is doing great with her daughter and husband, Lewis and Dallas is on the verge of adopting a sweet child. Life for the Sassy Belles is great and Blake could not be happier.

Until….

Harry calls one day and tells Blake he still loves her and needs to come visit to talk. Blake is not sure what he wants, but she knows that she won’t trade her baby and Sonny for anything. Before Harry gets back to town, though, the news hits the fan. Seems ole Harry has been engaging in some hanky-panky with a intern in the DC area. Of course, those that know Harry and know some of his past are not super-shocked to hear this; but he tells Blake that he’s being set up. Blake knows this man, has loved this man, and even though he’s a politician and known to lie- she believes him.

So… The Sassy Belles are on the case- eager to find the proof they need to clear Harry’s name and get him back to Washington, DC!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

This is the 4th book in the Sassy Belles series (and this is actually a novella). It is just as cute as the previous books in the series- Beth Albright paints a picture of Alabama with her words and the Sassy Belles characters that is sure to please!

There is romance (oh my, there is romance!) Humor and friendship are other big parts of the book. The ending is a bit bittersweet, but still wonderful.

If you have enjoyed Beth Albright’s previous books, then this will be no different. The Sassy Belles are back and better than ever!

Abby can't catch a break when it comes to her PR arch nemesis, Greg. He steals her ideas and is the biggest player she's ever met. While she's busy coming up with ideas to catch Greg in a lie, her first love comes back into her life. The one whose proposal she turned down all those years ago...

I loved reading about Abby and her Southern charm. I really liked how she called herself "Zelda" in her book club, since Zelda Fitzgerald was so powerful and misunderstood. This book had some great description of Alabama flowers and scenery which was such a nice touch. The love between Ben and Abby was so real, even after many years. It was so believable too. It's hard to make that flow sometimes and the author did a great job.

This book had lots of funny, sneaky things going on too which added to the story line. Abby has a "secret sister" who keeps giving her notes about how they support her and want to be her friend. She's also fighting with her neighbor that thinks she is a life coach... Hysterical. 5 stars for this book!

In this book we find a very pregnant Blake O'Hara Heart getting ready to have her baby with her boyfriend Sonny but when Blake gets a call from her soon to be ex-husband Harry she finds her world about to be turned upside down. Harry is in trouble and is coming home to see Blake. Which causes all sorts of problems for the The Sassy Belles to figure out. Harry's being tangled in a scandal with his intern named Jessica, funny thing is Blake believes him when he says he's being set up now it's up to Dallas, Vivi and Blake to figure out what is going on?

This was a great novella with all the fun and sassiness we have come to expect from Beth Albright. She has an incredible knack to write about southern Belles which reminds me of Steel Magnolias I loved the relationship these women have. Definitely a series I could read time and time again!

Saved by the Belles picks up where Wedding Belles ended. Dallas Dubois, Blake's former step-sister and frenemy who is the main character in Sleigh Belles, also makes an appearance toward the end of the novella. I didn't believe Harry's scandal would go away as quickly as it does here, and given the bad feelings between he and Blake, I was surprised to see tender moments between them.

I was happy to read this novella over the holidays and escape to Tuscaloosa with Blake O'Hara Heart and her BFF, Vivi. Unfortunately, I became so irritated and distressed by spelling and grammatical errors, I was glad to come to the end. A shame really, because the first two books of the series were well-written and fun.

A romance set in The South with a lot of enjoyable drama and competition between the protagonist and her old 'boyfriend'.

Abby is trying to balance a huge work event with being constantly undermined by her ex lover. Add in another ex, who may never forgive her for dumping him when he proposed, a large number of (un?)trustworthy colleagues, and a reputation at stake, and we're all set for some fun...

The characters were relatable, the romance was sweet, and the Southern setting was vibrant and the best thing about the the book. Unfortunately, the editing let it down, and there was lots of repetition. A fun romance best read for the infusions of Southern life.

I bought the paperback on Amazon, glad I did not pay a lot for it. It is over the top Southern with sayings like "having a hissy fit". It is as if she tries way too hard. The editors failed the writer miserably. The misuse of words was ridiculous. For example- He took out an ad(d) Spelled with the extra D. Waist time- not spelled WASTE.
Misuse of punctuation. We are both Mother's, not need for 's.

It was only 123 pages, read it in about 2 hours, but won't buy another book by her....sadly I bought 3 when I ordered this one. DO not Recommend.

I would like to thank the author and publisher for the book which I won in the Goodreads First Reads contest. It was delightful with wonderful Southern charm. Rather like Janet Evanovich with the hair brain schemes and laugh out loud moments, but with that down-south flair. "Saved by the Belles was a novella and gave readers a good taste of the adventures Beth Albright has concocted in her other novels. I thoroughly enjoyed this well written and fun read and recommend it highly.

a joyful read

Loved this book so much. Ms. Albright had me in tears laughing so much. The characters were built to be so lovable. I just want to move down the street with these ladies and become BFF's. This book is full of down home southern charm and sass. My favorite thing about this book is that the women were full of spunk and didn't back down. Looking forward to reading many more by this author.

Whilst not from the South of the USA I really enjoyed this book. Beth has written a good book which flows seamlessly with a bit of romance, sex and mystery. Abigail has some big decisions to make with an upcoming Mothers Day Event and with lots of events transpiring against her she defies the odds. Good fun and worth a read.

Stardust In Dixie is a winner.

The last of the sisters to find love, Abby, is ready for a change. With her older sister, Rhonda, and her twin sister, Annie, ready to walk down the aisle, Abby is ready for love. But, she’ll have to become more spontaneous. This is an entertaining story of love lost being found again. It’s a great light read.

I just love her slightly whacky way of writing. I love that there is always a little bit of a mystery to her stories. I love her characters. It feels like you know people just like these. I love that she is a Southern writer even if she is a Bama alum!
