I'm not sure this is the book I read. The one I read was a collection of essays, of very uneven character, from various authors including people like Ashleigh Montagu (Ok, there was only one of 'im, and he was it). Some of the essays were excellent--many were so turgid and technical as to be virtually unreadable.
