Evangeline Andrews is quiet and unassuming, or at least she hopes that's how people see her. Fleeing her life in New Jersey to hide in Dublin the last thing she needs are her secrets following her across the Atlantic. And what's the best way to keep a secret? Keep your mouth shut.
Life is one big game for online-gaming genius Julian Harte, and he plays to win every time. Becoming a self-made millionaire before his 30th birthday, Julian's office is his playground, and he sets the rules. Julian hasn't lost a round yet and he's used to getting everything he wants. He wants Evangeline. But she doesn't want to play.
Meet the Irish Alpha with a rule book as thick as his accent.
Well hello there Brooke Harris, I think I've just gone and found myself a fabulous debut author. One mysterious anti-hero, one broken, shy heroine and lots of; 'what am I reading' in between. One thing I can say for certain is I'm already desperado for book two. Here are my 'Rules of Harte' bookish thoughts ...
What's it all about?
"Evangeline Andrews doesn't want him, but she needs him. Julian Harte doesn't need anyone, but he wants her."
Eva is a shy, unassuming twenty something everything that should come easy to this shining beauty she has difficulties with. So when it matters of the heart and troublesome office politics it comes as no surprise that Eva has some stumbling blocks. Eva is loosing confidence fast and has her work cut out for her when the pressure to attend the office event of the year overwhelms her, running out of options she reaches out to an elite escort service to grab herself a date, but eva gets a lot more than she anticipated when she comes into contact with the dangerously attractive, Julian Harte. This sexy, secretive man can't get enough of the shy office girl and so a deliciously steamy relationship progresses. The journey becomes more than a lesson in love, with secrets, seduction and a whole lot of game playing. But when the rules start to change Eva has to decide whether to give away her heart or protect herself from falling.
What did I love? This book has 'five-star-for-intrigue' written all over it, but it also has a lesser rating for my feelings in between. Although I never fully warmed to the characters I did find myself fully invested in finding out what was going on behind the closed doors. And I know with a certainty that book two will bring me closer to these mysterious characters. Brooke Harris is an erotic writer to look out for, she clearly has put thought and effort into her novel and I'm convinced that the author has created a novel that is a bright start of fabulous things to come. Any book that has that feeling of 'I don't want to put you down' is definitely worth a heathy star rating and much like with any book I read I was really championing the romance side of this story. Overall I was pleased that I took the time to read this story and to be honest I practically devoured it, nothing gets me hooked than a story line that needs answers and Miss Harris certainly delivered. I'm hoping that in book two I get more love and romance and a heroine that develops her backbone just a tad more. This novel hosts a truly likeable storyline, with characters that have left me wanting much more.
Why not five? This book had some definite, 'i'm-not-quite-sure-how-I-feel-about-you' moments. Some of the sexual lingo was a little cringe worthy for my reading tastes, but I'll give the author this, some of those lines were clearly original and even as I had several 'what-am-I-reading' moments I still wanted to carry on with reading this quirky, erotica tale of attraction.
Final thoughts ... I've found yet another author who is definitely on the way up, I'm sure this book is just a taster of things to come with what Brooke Harris has to offer. I'm already more than ready to read book two and I'm happy to recommend to other readers who like this genre to dive right in. Go grab it readers. Enjoy ... Kisses.

First off, let me say that the book blurb really doesn't fit what this story is about. And even after finishing the book, I'm not sure that I would know how to explain what it's about??
Let's start with my biggest hurdle....Eva. I just did not understand her. Not her personality, not her actions, not her mannerisms.....nothing. Her personality came off as, quite frankly, bipolar. One minute she was introverted, shy, timid, reserved and the next she's fiery, aggressive, loud and firing off f-bombs like a semi-automatic.
She was a very unhappy girl. Completely dissatisfied with every aspect of her life. No real friends. Unnoticed at her job. No social life. No fashion sense. Forgotten by the world.
Moving on to Julian. We don't really learn anything about him. Nothing relevant at least. The big "twist" is easily figured out in the first 10% and he spends a lot of time talking about the "game." What kind of game is it? Games of the heart? The game of life? I'm left scratching my head.
And finally the sex. The scenes were steamy, and there were many, but there was nothing sexy about the terminology used.
And not to beat a dead horse, but there was also blaring inconsistencies with Eva's speaking. She's suppose to be a Jersey girl living in Dublin, yet she uses terms like "knickers" and "bloody hell" and "bollocks." I understand after a while you begin to acclimate to your surroundings, but it didn't fit.
So to sum up, neither the characters nor the storyline appealed to me. Maybe I'm being too judgmental or too nitpicky, but I spent most of my time confused and scratching my head.

4, Maybe 4.5 Stars... The more I write down my thoughts the more I fall in love.....**I've a feeling my affection will grow and grow for this series....**
Wildest fantasy, most amazing daydream.
"Why do you do this? "Because I can."
Rules of Harte is a super, sexy, erotic read about losing your inhibitions, living in the moment and being a stronger person. It has a cast of fabulous characters led by our hero and heroine, Julian and Eva. As soon as I saw the word escort in the blurb, I knew I had to read this story as soon as possible..... I was super excited!!! And I was NOT disappointed!!!! Let me tell you why....
"Could she live in the moment."
Eva ~ I really warmed to her.... I adore her quirkyness, her sarcasm, her down to earth, dry sense of humour. Her self deprecating manner was endearing and comical at times. She says some really sincere things that're just funny, in a cute, charming way. lol, lol, lol She made me chuckle at how proud she was of her sexual achievements. She's naive, at times, but in a cute, funny way. She reminds me of a sexy Miriam Harte... (that's a really, really good thing for those of you who don't know the character) Slightly awkward around people, especially men; does things without thinking but she's able to see the amusing side of her behaviour. Her personality and wit shine through her inner thoughts. I just love her. She's Brilliant!!!
The driving factor behind events is that Eva feels undesirable... She's been instructed to attend the company ball, but she has no one to go with and resorts to, Casanova Agency. This sends her into turmoil.... She's a girl with a conscience and morals... What would people think?
Enter Julian.... Mr Escort....
Every now and again we hear his thoughts, I adored that. He could be cocky and arrogant, but he was oh so sexy and gorgeous. A swoon-some book boyfriend with superhero qualities going on. What do I mean? Well, you'll have to read to understand!
"He was delicious, like a juicy peach waiting to be tasted." Mmmm, yum... Lovely!!! He's smart and eloquent, and has a way with words and his body... This story is as sexy as hell!!!SMOKING HOT!!!
He certainly adored her!! It was lovely
Those fingers and hands.... Wow!!! Ice cubes is all I can say!!! "Her pussy ached just thinking about his skills."Oh yes!!! He liked to please and be pleased himself!!!
Both characters have demons in their past, a history giving the perfect light and shade to the story. The reasons why.... The author was in no rush to reveal their issues, we were drip fed slowly; a book quality that always works so well for me. The glimpses into Julian and Eva's past are perfectly timed.
The extra cast of characters include various work colleagues and a mysterious boss who expects certain behaviour from his employees. Nathan a potential beau is worth a mention..... He's like a fly buzzing around, he needs squatting, lol.
A big thing for me in books is show, not tell. It's so important that I'm given a picture to look at rather than told how it is. This author gave me pictures and lots of them with her beautiful characters and story. Yes there are some aspects that I thought... Really? How? Why? But I accept everything. There are elements that have a touch of predictability but I still felt the anticipation, and I never really knew exactly where the author was going to take me with the characters. I suspended my disbelief and enjoyed it, a lot!!! It's like a fantastical daydream, but believable, if that makes sense? And, for me it's all because the characters are so well written and developed. I believed everything they said and did. Wonderful!!!
I adored my time in book magical land with Julian & Eva and I hope you do too. If you enjoy a super sexy read with likable, well rounded characters and an entertaining, erotic story then pick up this book. You'll love experiencing this series. ♥
Book magical fantasy!!! I'm almost at 5 stars.... "...the game is just beginning." And I can't wait for more!!!

4.5 OMFG "NO TIME TO EVEN PUT UP AN UPDATE" STARS!!!!!!
Yes that's right this one was definitely worth everyone one of those 4.5 stars.....why....well because I practically devoured it in one sitting.....seriously I was like this for the entire story;
So much so that I didn't even get as far as posting any status updates because I simply refused to put it down. I even took it to the loo with me (sorry too much info maybe??.)
I almost broke my neck reading it whilst walking down the stairs, and I even tried to see if there was a way I could prop my iPad up against the sink so I could keep reading it whist I took a shower.....(note to self: iPads are not waterproof and reading whilst trying to shave in the shower results in a mild level of discomfort)
Ok so what's it about. Well in a nutshell, it's about a shy nerdy office girl who requires the services of a male escort to help her fit in at her works party, it's also about bitchy female work colleagues, over zealous male work colleagues and a boss who has a very different way of rating his employees performance levels!!
It's HOT, HOT, HOT....with a capital H!!! So ok, you may find yourself asking.... is this story a tad predictable? Is it a tad unrealistic in parts? And if you said yes then.....
BUT does that distract from the story in anyway?
To be honest I think it's supposed to be predictable, and let's face it if you don't work out a big part of the plot within the first few pages then, no offence, but
This isn't a suspense book, it doesn't have a 'whodunit' style storyline. I think the author wanted us to have an inkling of what's going on so that we can then spend the entirety of the book like this...
And that is why in a nutshell I bloody loved it. It had a story line that excited me, characters that intrigued me, a completely drool worthy Julian character who had me wanting to start googling escort services....... and erotic scenes that excited me to a whole other level....
Oh and in case you're wondering I only marked it down by half a star because I wanted MORE.....MORE JULIAN, MORE SEX, MORE NIPPLE SUCKING, MORE THRUSTING, MORE "OMG HES GONNA PUT IT IN THERE".....MORE EVERYTHING...
Can't bloody wait for the next one in the series, I, for one, will be queuing up and waiting in line for more from this author.

This book was so surprising!! I started reading and found that I finished it in 2 days. I couldn't put it down!! The story unfolded and I just had to know more and more. I must say that the story was predictable but in a fabulous way. It was very well written, it was intriguing, sad, steamy, sweet, romantic and super hot.
Eva is a lonely American girl living in Dublin. She just blends in at the office. She really doesn't have a lot of friends. Her boss is a mysterious man, Mr. John Doe. He throws a masquerade ball every year and this year Eva has been invited. It's a formal event and she needs a date. She really has no one to ask so she does something that she isn't proud of, she searches for an escort site. No one will find out..... While searching, an instant message pops up from Julian, who offers up his services. Can she do it, hire a date for a night? What she doesn't understand is that Julian, knows a lot about her and is determined to help her bare her soul and lose her inhibitions.
Julian works his magic on Evangeline. While reading, there are clues about Julian and who this mysterious escort might be. Eva has many demons in her past as well as does Julian. These 2 broken souls are drawn to each other, the reason we are not sure of. Julian Harte seems like a man on a mission to help Evangeline but why? We learn a little about Julian and his past but what is it about Evangeline that triggers him and makes him respond to her differently than all other women.
Julian still came out on top. It was as if he possessed her. He had her mind, her body, her soul and she was happy to give them to him. But she just wished she could have his in return.
Evangeline discovers the truth about Julian and her world is turned upside down. She has so many questions and doesn't understand. But the one thing she does know..... " I think he knows me so well it scares the shit out of me."
I am looking forward to book #2. There are questions that I need answers too and I want to see how Eva and Julian play round two. Brooke Harris is a definite up and coming author who hit it out of the park with her debut book, it was.....

When I first started this book...i'll be honest...I didn't know what to expect....but once I met sexy, millionaire businessman Julian... yep i fell hook, line and sinker. This book has it all....sex, humor, sex, love, mystery, more sex....and i really really enjoyed it. Only had to change my undies twice...*wink* Can't wait for more from this author....Thanks Brooke :D
"So, do you like to play games?" "Let's play then, shall we?" says Julian
What do you want to play? says Eva
"I want to see you lose your inhibitions."
"I don't need to WATCH you to SEE you, Evangeline. We are going to explore our senses. I can HEAR every move you make. Your BREATHE is racing, your VOICE is jumping; I know you are LOOKING around your room. You won't find me...I am just a VOICE tonight."
"We can take slow as slow as you need to, just ENJOY me."
Her orgasm exploded like the pop of a cork from a champagne bottle
"You're the decision maker now. You're in control."
"You amaze the hell out of me, Evangeline. This was never about just fucking you; I can fuck any girl I like. But I didn't want just any girl. Understand?"

Review I have mixed feelings on this one….on one side – I loved this hot – steamy read….but then on the other hand – I had a hard time believing Eva would be so naïve and gullible along with an office not screaming SEXUAL HARASSMENT!
Now in a fantasy world…this would be the most spectacular read with shy – cardigan sweater wearers all walking around with their heads in the clouds never putting 2 and 2 together. I also would have liked to learn more about Eva’s past. I keep going back and have to shake my head at the other girls in the office and their nonchalant attitude about boning their boss who they never even saw his face. And Mr. Doe? If I was Eva…I would have ran for hills the first time stepping in Mr. Doe’s office and then learning the “ins and outs” (yes, that is a pun) of the office politics.
Putting the above aside….it was a very creative story and such a sensual read (I did cringe once-not going there) My libido skyrocketed while reading the things Julian said and did to Eva….yes, it was that erotic and panty-dripping!
I do want to read the next book in this series – I think I will enjoy that one more now that the bullshit is all out in the open. Will Eva be able to put aside the past of Julian? Will she be going back to New Jersey so we can learn more about her past?
Re-Cap Eva is not even a thought in the office – she is shy and prefers to blend into the woodwork, but there is a problem…..a masquerade party is coming up soon and she needs a date to stand out. She puts all morals aside and looks into an escort service….in pops Julian….Julian likes to play games and the game he sets his sights on is Eva. Can Julian bring Eva out of her shell and help her gain the self-confidence she needs in life?
Julian opens a new world for Eva and slowly she peels off the layers protecting herself – a ravaging beauty starts to emerge while Eva starts attracting the attention of a fellow co-worker along with the big head haunch-o. What will Eva do? Nick on one end is safe and dorky like she feels she is….Julian is just an escort who doesn’t believe in relationships…..Mr. Doe is so mysterious and rumors that float around the water-cooler would have anyone fanning themselves.
Eva has to make a choice – she is the pawn in this game but also the master of game!
Wrap-Up A very unbelievable creative story that had my heart pumping and my thighs clenching and I just can’t wait for the next story in this series!
This book is for you IF you LIKE asshat heroes, TSTL heroines, other women, jerk heroes, to be continued books, controlling men and I'm not talking Alpha, I'm talking creepy dickhead, manwhores, manipulators, heroines who give in too easily, liars and no chemistry.
This book is just a hot mess and definitely not for readers who like a good, well fleshed erotic romance.
Not too mention this is a re-release with a new name and cover.

Well..this one's going to be hard to review because, honestly, I was confused a lot.. like, really a lot. Was it just me? Possibly.. I really tried with this one. The characters were "almost" likable, but I really don't feel like there was enough character development done to get an idea of who Julian and Eva really were....
We know Eva had pretty troublesome past but there was only one scene that let us know what happened to her to make her the semi closed off person she is now.. but she would go from being shy and timid to all of a sudden wanting to fuck like there's no tomorrow. Then shy and polite to dropping F bombs and getting her freak on anywhere...it was a really weird combination of character traits this girl had going on and I couldn't nail one of them down..
Then Julian...After finishing this book I still have no idea who he is. Sure, it was easy to figure out who he really was early on, but as far as "characterization" wise.. not at all.. I can't even criticize anything about him because there are so many unknowns! Is he the typical anti-hero? I don't know.. shit.. I have no idea. I know he liked Eva and wanted to play a game with her that still now, I have no freaking idea what that game was. Was there really a game? Hell if I know.
I was intrigued enough to finish this one, wondering what direction the author was going to go but I just was never able to connect with this one. The steam level really helped this one out a lot.. but again, there were some wording that just really made me cringe a bit... "boy milk" uh.. uck. And the use of the word clitoris on a regular basis.. lets snip that down to clit and never EVER again say boy milk. It was just said once, but it really threw an additional un-likeable moment that didn't help me get through this one better.
Now, all that being said, I can see some talent in this author being able to weave an intricate tale and she knows how to write some good steam. I just need more character development and the plot needs to be much more clear. Will I read the next one? Probably.. I'm curious to see how things turn out and hoping to find out a whole lot more about each character. The series has possible potential.. it just didn't take off so good for me. We'll see what happens in the next one..

3.5 ‘Libertia Supra Omnis Stars
Eva has moved from New Jersey to Dublin, a fresh start and a chance to escape a past she has never dealt with. But even after a year she remains invisible to those around her. When she gets her invite to the masquerade ball, the elaborate affair her boss puts on each year, she suddenly finds herself in need of an escort.
Julian Harte has wealth and power. He also likes to render his services to women who may be in need of liberation. An escort like no other. When Eva catches his attention the games begin. He is certain that there is something much more to this woman and he is going to be sure to find out.
As the games continue, Eva finds herself unable to deny her body the man that is before her. She knows what he does and she knows this isn’t the kind of man you plan your forever with; but she can’t seem to stop craving the way he makes her feel. Alive.
I have to start off by saying that although I enjoyed the fantasy of this story, I found a few things that caused me to have to step back from the story and try to sort it out, before jumping back in. This really only amounted to a few scenes where I felt like I had missed a vital moment in the description of what was occurring. The sex in this book was very erotic so when a little wrench gets tossed into the mix, it can take a bit away from the experience.
Eva was a highly insecure character, constantly second guessing herself and allowing her guilt over hurting someone’s feelings above her own needs and wants. We don’t get a huge picture as to the nightmare that was her life in the first book and I am hoping that more will be uncovered in the next book.
Both characters remained pretty much a mystery throughout this book. Julian had his moments of pure brilliance but I was not sure if I could fully see this kind of guy committing to anything beyond casual. You can see the underlining connection that he has with Eva, although you aren’t told this is a new experience for him – you feel that what he is sharing with her is something he’s never done before... but you are left wondering just what will become of these two once their story continues.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and will be reading the next in the series. A few minor issues were scattered throughout the story, but those were set aside as I continued my journey with Eva & Julian. There is just enough there with both characters to want to know what made them this way and ultimately see them get past it and move on. Julian’s past was left cloaked in near darkness and I can’t help but want to know all the missing pieces to his story. The author did a great job hooking you into both characters and the story, leaving you wanting to know more. This was one of those books, that had I not enjoyed it – I still would have been driven to read the next book just to find out what happens next.
One naïve foreigner looking to restart a future in a foreign country. + One wealthy escort with a dark and mysterious secrets. ONE mandatory masquerade ball that will change everything.
Will Evangeline Andrews be the belle of the ball? Or will the ball drop when all the masks come off?
My thoughts: What an awesome book filled with secrets, intrigue, and suspense!! I had no idea where the author was going to take the plot but it all turned out to be to the books benefit.
I swear, Julian Harte was one enigma of a man!! I couldn't figure him out or his agenda!! Was he being genuine in his affections for Eva? Or was it all just for play? Gosh!!
And Eva, I liked her but she was a little too timid and gullible throughout. I hope that all changes though as we embark on book two of the series.
So exciting!
All and all though, a great book debut that left me wanting more!! Awesome job Ms. Harris!
*I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!!*
I got this as a Kindle Unlimited rental and I didn't realize that it's
a) a cliffhanger serial(which I loathe) and b) there's involvement of the hero with other women (or it definitely seems like it, as the narrative is a bit jumbled) and that's a major turnoff for me.
The "mystery" of who Julian is - it's not a mystery, it's very clear. Eva isn't a compelling heroine. She keeps being described as a strong woman but you telling me isn't the same as showing me. About the most I would give her is that she moved away from the US to Ireland, which is brave.
The Bottom Line I couldn't get into it and when it seemed as if the hero's hooking up with another woman, I just had to drop out.
However, if serials are your thing, and you don't mind some side action for the hero, you may feel differently. Not for me.
"You're looking for a fairy-tale, Evangeline. I'm not Prince Charming. I've told you that."
Well then! What happens when an innocently shy girl gets caught in a game of seduction? Hot escort meets awkward, Bridget Jones type, geeky girl who just needs a hot date for her big upcoming office party. Seems innocent enough…right? Yeah…NO! This ain't your basic escort romance! This book caught me by surprise, as it starts out more on the lighthearted and comical side but then evolves into something else entirely. The beginning kind of reminded me of the film The Wedding Date with Debra Messing, but again, that is before the twists and turns really began.
"You know the rules, Evangeline."
Evangeline works for a stuffy, political company where everyone is all up in each other’s business and appearances are everything. She's completely fallen out of the dating game and considers herself to be awkward and undesirable. Already feeling completely out of place, she starts entertaining the idea of actually ordering a very high priced, elite escort, for an office party that she simply cannot attend solo. However, she gets much more than she bargains for in sexy and secretive Julian Harte. Julian prides himself in looking at women as a game; take the challenge, work the target, lay down the rules, win the game, move on. But of course, he cannot seem to get enough of Evangeline Andrews.
Evangeline's character is relatable, cute, and down to earth. She never annoyed me and that is pretty damn near impossible these days with book heroines. And oh my sweet GOD, Julian!!! Julian is confident and cocky while being introverted, observant, and surprisingly compassionate at times. He's an anti-hero but you know there is so much else there brewing just beneath the surface.
"He had the power to erase all her thoughts with just the touch of his lips. It was dangerous and intoxicating and it scared the hell out of her."
This is a very sexy book. Not just in frequency but in hmmm, let’s say originality? Creativity? LOL! There was one scene that, GOOD GOD, I had never read about that particular act before, and that is saying a lot! In fact, I was torn somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars, to be honest, only because the version of the book that I read lacks some serious proofreading and editing, to the point of being distracting. However, since I received my copy, a re-edited version has been released and is available now, so I am going to assume that these issues have been fixed. Therefore, I overlooked it. The author’s style and wit, interesting characters, the massive sensuality of this book, and the story-line all combined, solidified it as a 4 star read for me.
Fans of Fifty Shades of Grey, take notice, because I really think you would enjoy this book. Actually, Brooke Harris’s writing really reminded me a lot of Jodi Ellen Malpas's style.
"'I took my mask off because I don't want to play anymore either, Eva. The game is over. You win,' he whispered."
I was left desperately wanting to get a better look behind Julian’s walls, as we are left with very little insight to his many secrets, so I am definitely looking forward to seeing where this series goes. There is a LOT that I am not saying here, but just know that the last 15% of this book completely sucked me in and from then on, this was a solid 5 star read!
Great debut and a series to watch! I can easily see this growing into a 5+ star series!
"It was him, he was the game."

☆ ☆ ☆3-3.5 Game On Stars ☆ ☆ ☆
Rules of Harte follows Evangeline Andrews, a shy 27 year old American living in Dublin. Always following the rules and keeping her head down, she lives a simple 9 to 5 job. That all changes, when she engages on a website looking for an escort to accompany her to a job event. In a series of chats with the escort, Julian Harte challenges Eva to step outside the box and let go of her inhibitions. Julian awakens Eva’s sexual desires, lust, and fulfills her needs. With her newfound sexual needs being fulfilled by Julian, Eva finds herself intrigued by her mysterious boss, Mr. Doe. So when Julian challenges to play and abide his rules and games, Eva must decide if she wants to play?
Rules of Harte was one of those books that had a great idea and premise but throughout the book I found myself confused and was left with many questions. The most important one is what game? All this talk of the game between Julian and Eva was a little confusing and I thought the author needed to provide more background info on it. The book tried to be suspenseful as to who is Mr. Doe is but I was less than 10% into the book and it was so no surprise when his identity was revealed. I look forward to reading the next book and hopefully see Eva with more of a character development.
How do I express the love I have for this book? When I signed up for the tour, I didn't even read the synopsis. I went in totally blind and sometimes this is the best way to go into a book. So I started reading Rules of Harte and right away I was hooked.
We are introduced to Evangeline Andrews as she gets an invitation to a work party. Eva doesn't think too much of it though, so she rushes off to a meeting. During the meeting Mia(the office bitch) calls her out as being new. Eva is very socially awkward and becomes embarrassed easily. So she wants to impress her fellow co-workers so she looks up an escort service for her date to the company ball.
On the website she gets instant messages from a man named Julian. When he asks why she needed a male escort she retorts back with "I'm not sure I do." Julian doesn't respond and suddenly goes offline. Eva decides its fate's way of saying "don't go to the ball" so she sends out an email to Mia that she won't be able to attend the ball. Problem solved. Or is it?
Upon arrival at work, she is met with a pissed off Mia, who informs her that Mr. Doe(the boss) would like to see her in his office. When Eva arrives she talks to the secretary and we learn he sleeps with the female employees. After talking to Mr. Doe he informs her that she will indeed be going to the ball. So her only option for a date is to try to reach Julian again. Once she reaches him and tells him she needs his service they exchange numbers. And this where you need to fasten your seat belt ladies and gentleman because the ride gets bumpy from here until the end.
We get little bits and pieces of the story in Julian's POV and I would love to have more in his POV. The sex scenes were hot, but I have 1 complaint. Some of the terminology was bad. Seriously, I cringed on 2 of the word choices. But it wasn't used repeatedly so I didn't factor that into my rating at all. As soon as I finished the book, I logged onto my Facebook blog page and ran a contest for 3 e-copies. When I start gifting out copies of a book, you know I loved the story so much I had to share it with somebody else.
Kudos to Brooke for her debut novel, she is one to watch out for! I predict great things for her future writing career. And I will be (im)patiently waiting for book 2 to get more Julian and Eva.
This is the first time I have read this author and I plan to continue with the series, but I have to admit that I struggled at times.
The beginning was a little slow, but then it picked up and I was good to go. I also felt a little lost at times, I felt like I was missing something. This is a romantic suspense, but there was just a little too much suspense for me. There is a mystery as to why Eva is in Ireland, I know she is working there, but what is the reason that made her leave the US. Also, Julian is a big mystery. You find out he plays two roles and I wondered why his identify was kept a secret at work, I haven’t figured that out yet.
There are a lot of gaps (the mysteries) that hopefully will be filled in the second book. There wasn’t a cliffhanger per se, but there is definitely more to come with Eva and Julian. The characters chemistry was off the charts and there was a lot of push and pull between the characters and some of the secondary characters, which added to the story. But I couldn’t get past the gaps.
I liked the book for the most part, with the exception of the above, so I definitely plan to continue with future books in the series.

3.5 Harte Stars! Copy provided by Ms. Brooke Harris in exchange of an honest review
An awkward, timid and mostly ignored young woman, that is who Evangeline “Eva” Andrews is. She doesn’t have any friends and her lovelife is also non-existent. She hates her co-worker, Mia, and their boss, the mysterious Mr. Doe, gives her the creeps yet intrigues her at the same time. When a masquerade ball for their company was announced, she was borderline panicking. With no friends and date for the ball, Eva is already positive that her reputation and career will remain the same -- boring.
Her brilliant plan? Why not hire an escort?
And that’s where everything unraveled.
During her unfinished search for someone to bring to the ball with her, Julian found her instead. The almost creepy but insanely interesting man who offered her his escort services in exchange for Eva playing the “game”. But what “game” is he really talking about? Is he really an escort? How was he able to initiate contact with Eva and know what she’s looking for?
I am quite torn on how to review this. There were good points and some questionable ones for me. I’ll try and break it down instead:
If we’re only talking about the characters I’d rate Julian a good 4-star because I see he’s strong, determined, not to mention sexy. He can be cocky but he sure knows how to handle himself well that his arrogance can be seen as protectiveness and just his way of showing he cares. Eva I’d give a slapping 2-star, this girl confuses the heck out of me. She decides one thing one minute and goes the other way the next and this goes on until the end of the book.
If it’s just the storyline/plot and the way it was written Maybe a 2.5 to 3. Don’t get me wrong, it has clear potential but sometimes I end up getting confused and going back a few pages to see if I missed anything because I’m all “what is happening right now?”. Although I figured out the big twist in the story as soon as it presented itself, I was hoping there would be more thought-provoking scenes that would lead up to the big reveal. That would’ve been really shocking even when readers already have an idea on what’s going on. It fell flat for me on that aspect. It doesn’t take away though the intrigue and curiosity that Ms. Brooke Harris planted in my head and now I’m itching to know what happens next.
If it’s the chemistry/banter/steam between Eva and Julian Now this I’ll give 5 shining stars. Seriously, the hotness between these two can fire up your Kindle or whatever e-reader you’re using. You’ll probably never look at ice cubes the same again. *wink wink* Their physical relationship is undeniable, I’ll give them that. I was afraid my Kindle will catch fire just from the fiery, sexy scenes. Hardcore. No complaints from me here.
Overall, Rules of Harte is a book that will have you guessing what the characters are up to next and how the story would progress. You’ll feel mad, intrigued or I’m sure annoyed at some of them. I know Mia made me want to bitch slap her. And I love reading books that make me feel for the characters, no matter if it’s a want-to-hug them or want-to-slap them kind of feeling, that’s why it’s a plus on that point.
Stars: 3.5 stars! Recommended to: If you enjoy sexy heroes and enjoy thinking what happens in the story, you will also enjoy Rules of Harte. POV: Third person. Series: Yes. Cliffhanger: Yes. EXTRA COMMENT: Where’s the second book? Oh my gosh that ending.
First off, this book loses an entire star due to it being in dire need of editing. I don't understand why you wouldn't release a polished manuscript. Such a shame.
Secondly, I am a stickler for all the little details, like how a hand or a body gets from point A to B. I want to be able to visualize every movement or I get stuck. This ties in with my first comment, because a good editor would pick up on these moments.
All that aside, I really enjoyed this story. Especially Julian who constantly surprised me even though he had his head up his bum much of the time. And while I get the whole 'game' theme, Julian and Eva were definitely not playing on the same game board. He was manipulating her the entire time. Pushing her to make moves before she even knew they were an option. How did he know so much about her? How did she fall under his radar in the first place? Poor Eva, every time she made a move by giving into her desires she felt compromised, even shameful. And that sucks. I found myself wanting her to be stronger than that. Which made me hate Julian, just a bit.
And for once, the two side characters, Shelly and Nathan, were both kind of horrible. One, who ran hot and cold and the other who was borderline stalkerish. Enough said on that.
Finally, I do not like serial novels. Even more, I don't like not being informed up front that it's a two or three-parter. From the author's Goodreads page, I understood it was a two book series. I'm so disappointed it's not. It's likely I won't read book two without three. And if if three won't be released for months, I probably won't finish the series, because I won't remember all the details from this book without needing to reread it, which I most likely won't because my TBR list is pages long...sigh.
Playing Irish would be my first read by Brooke Harris but not the last there was a lot of things I found enjoyable but sometimes I got a little frustrated with the characters . This will have your blood rushing in all the right places along with flutters in certain places . The hero and heroine made a interesting pair with an intense attraction , a lot of surprises happend to were I didn't see coming . Hope to see more from the charecters it felt like some things are left a mystery excited to see whats to come . copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero = 9 heroine = 9 secondary characters = 9 Chemistry = 10 steam = 10 romance =6 humor = 3 darkness level =6 enjoyment = 10 angst = 4 action = 4 story line = 9 mystery = 5 character development = 10 pacing = 10 Plot = 10 cover = 10 stars = 4 author = 8 would I recommend this book = yes would I re read this book = yes would I read future books by this author = yes
This book confused the hell out of me & I'm not talking about the actual story I'm talking about the characters & their reactions.
So Julian AKA Mr Doe who no-one has ever seen picks 1 girl for 1 year from his office & she lives the dream for that year oh & has lots of sex with the H but apparently NEVER see his face.
One of his girls Shelley who is his current PA strikes up a really close friendship with Eva, Eva also walks in on Shelley & Mr Doe having sex in his office but when Eva is picked as the next girl & it is revealed that Mr Doe is actually Julian an escort who Eva has been having a relationship with & been having sex you don't pick up any awkwardness between Shelley & Eva WTF?!?! They have both been sleeping with the same guy but apparent that's all fine & doesn't affect their friendship!!!!
Yep I'm done no book 2 for me.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I figured out the mystery of Julian pretty early, and I wished it wouldn't have been what I thought.
The heroine seemed a bit like a pushover, and wasn't really upset with the stuff that mattered. I couldn't get a good read on her or Julian.
I'm not sure if I'll finish this series because I was not a fan of what went on before everything came to a head. The writing was good, but the story was so confusing at times.
3.5 Im so bloody confused stars!!! It all started with a game but what a confusing game it was. Im really lost for words on this book seriously. I'm not sure if I want to read book two seeing how this book has me confused... However knowing my brain I might just take a break to read book two later on.
This was like a weird fever dream. Where you move from scene to scene of things that aren't really related but because it's a dream it somehow connects to be one story. The writing style worked for me, and this book definitely kept my attention, but the plot was just illogical. Anything specific would be spoilery, so I'll refrain, but just jump in knowing that this story is like some sort of odd quilt; it's all one solid piece, but it's made up of bits and bobs that didn't necessarily need to go together lol. Decent kinky fuckery though.
It was a good story. It gave me 50 shades of Grey vibes set in Ireland, and sometimes Evangeline got annoying with her woe is me, but I did overall enjoy the story and the smut.
This book is a wild ride, it is going to take you up down, twist you inside out. It is not emotional ride though; I did not find that I needed tissues, unless it was to wipe the drool from my mouth. The story starts off fast paced and has a ton of twists and turns, I think you will see them coming and understand them but why the female lead Evangeline did not.
Plain Jane, always unnoticed, that is how Eva lives her life. She feels inadequate and not very beautiful. She is an American living in another country. Eva tends to hide under a stained cardigan and does not want anyone to see who she is; actually she is not even sure who she is herself. I can tell you that she is a horny broad. Eva left a sad past behind and has never dealt with her past. Forced to go to the company ball she decides to hire and escort so she does not seem pathetic to her co-workers. This is how she meets Julian and he will go with her if she proves she can let her inhibitions go. Get a fan ready you will need it for this scene.
Julian, ultra rich sexy as sin billionaire, with secrets of his own and I think too much time on his hands. He likes to play games and his new game is Eva. I honestly did not know if I understood Julian even a little bit by the end of the book. Talk about a walking contradiction. He seems to genuinely care for Eva, not sure if he can’t admit and is scared or really just wants to help her heal and play his game. The story has dual POV through it and we hear some of Julian’s thoughts but the author spins it just enough to get you hoping that he is feeling more and then pulls back and you question it all over again. I shook my kindle a few times yelling at him to give me something more and admit his damn feelings.
I had to ask myself a few times if I like Julian, as I read and certain things came to light, I did call him an asshole and I was so surprised that Eva even handled it the way she did. Julian is such a man slut and she knew it. I know it and I am still drawn to him like I am drawn to chocolate chip cookies out of the oven. The sex scenes are quite explicit and some a bit of a shock to my system and it takes a lot to shock me, I kind of turned my head and cringed a little bit at that part.
There are a few parts of the book that needed a little more development. Some things were left unexplained to me when Eva has her first contact with Julian, Eva never questioned some of these things and it baffled me and just felt unfinished or maybe it was explained and I just missed it somehow. I can’t explain it more, because it would spoil some of the plot.
I really, really enjoyed this book. If you are looking for a steamy read, this is a good one. It is a debut novel from this author and I think she is off to a great start. There are many other facets of the story I did not touch on and all of them were very good. I will warn the reader that this book is book one so although it does not have a hard cliff, it is left open for the next book and I can’t wait.
Brooke Harris What a ride! A guess who thriller from the beginning, Rules of Harte, sucks you in and MAKES you turn the page to find out what or who will happen next!
Evangeline Andrews has been passed over her whole life. A happy home, men, fashion sense...it all eludes her. She's run away from New Jersey to find sanctuary in Dublin.
The company social event of the year is looming. Everyone who's anyone in the office will be at the masquerade ball. Eva has been invited, well, instructed to attend by her mysterious boss - or else. But she can't go alone.
Enter Julian Harte, a sexy escort with a fascination for games. Eva is about to learn the rules are complicated and Julian doesn't do losing.
Julian Harte is the mystery of the story. Never truly knowing who he is, Eva still finds herself following him along in a journey that she could have never expected and either will you! Let the games begin!
Rarely is a book able to surprise me and glue me so tight to the pages that I have ink on my hands, well e-ink, but this book did! I read this whole story in one sitting and I want more! With characters who have great depth and a storyline with both romance and intrigue, Rules of Harte has it all….(including the heat and passion that we all love!)
