I had no idea how much I would love Alex the day he walked into my life.
He changed everything.

The way I thought.
The way I loved.
He brought me back to life.
He gave me strength and a safe place to land.

And then he broke me.

Finding Emilia was a chance to do something good for once in my life.
I wanted to change.
She believed I was her savior.
I ached to be.
She found her way into my heart and claimed it as her safe place.

This is my first time reading this author and I must say that I did enjoy her writing style. I also liked that there is a few povs incorporated giving us the full scope into this suspenseful read.

After losing her mother, Emilia heads out to Phoenix, Arizona to find her father. She’s all alone with practically no money to her name and hoping the man she has never meet will offer some sort of assistance.

Emilia meets a hot and handsome stranger who offers her a place to stay till she can get back on her feet. Alex is taken by Emilia and is willing to feed her lies about how he earns his money and what he grudging does for his father’s business. Alex sees a life that he has never let himself dream of in Emilia. His feelings for her blossom even though being with him places her in a lot of danger.

”Everything I’ve never felt for anyone else, I feel for her.”

Alex has always been on the computer end of things but with his father in prison he has to run this huge cartel. He just hates this business but feels like he has no choice and regardless of how much he loves Emilia, he is trapped.

”When I see you, all I see is good, Em. I’m so sorry I brought you into the middle of this. It was selfish of me.” So fucking selfish”

Alex comes clean to Emilia, while Sam an agent gets closer to her. All the while, both men fall for her in their own way.

”Part of me is dead set on using her. The other part of me wants to rescue her.”

Overall, this was a good read that ended with a few predictable reveals while one connection was pretty creative and will propel me into picking up the next book in the series. On a side note, I really enjoyed the role Father Mark played. Be warned this is a big cliff ending.

”I’d give it all up for her, for the chance to live a normal life with her.”

After she loses her mother in a tragic way, Emilia leaves Illinois for Arizona to search for her father she has never known. The reunion doesn’t goes as she planned. Her father doesn’t want to do anything with her. She’s lost, broken without any family or friends. She meets Alex, a handsome man who wants to help her. He offers her a place to live in his condo until she figures out what her next step is. Alex doesn’t have bad intentions. He really wants to help her. Something tells him she needs someone, that she needs him. He is drawn immediately to her, to her innocence, to her beauty.

“God, she’s beautiful. Everything about her is pure—good, and for every moment I’m with her, I want to be a better man, a man she deserves. But under the desire to do good, lives a monster.”

Alex has secrets. He’s good with Emilia, but is he really a good man? He doesn’t tell her who he really is, because he wants to protect her and because he doesn’t want to be alone anymore. Everything Emilia knows about him is a lie.

“The things that truly make a person rich, I will never have—a nine-to-five job, a normal relationship, a family.”

Soon after they meet they start a sexual relationship. Emilia knows how different they are, but she can’t fight her feelings anymore. She falls for Alex, fast and hard. Alex knows he put Emilia in danger being with her, but he can’t stay away. What was supposed to be a fling, becomes so much more for both of them.

description

Alex comes clean to Emilia. Despite the fact Alex is who he is and despite the fact he lied to her, she wants to be with him no matter what. She accepts somewhat who he really is, but she’s convinced there’s a chance for them to be happy.

“I don’t have a choice. In this life, this business, there are no choices. Your choices are made for you. This is how the family business works.”

An agent named Sam starts getting closer to Emilia. He pretends to be her friend and later to be interested in her, but maybe Emilia is not the one he wants. Things get complicated when Emilia and Alex find out that their meeting was maybe orchestrated and Emilia is just a pawn in someone's game.

Told from multiple pOvs, “Broken by Lies” was an enjoyable read, even if the premise is nothing new. Overall the story was a little predictable, but there some interesting twists and turns that I really liked. Both Emilia and Alex are likeable characters. Emilia is innocent and at times naïve, but not too naïve to be annoying. She’s independent and confident, which was a plus. However at times I was a little frustrated with her. I didn’t like all her decisions and there were a few times when I really wanted to slap her. Alex is sweet and caring with Emilia. He has a good heart and I liked that he wants to be someone else, that he wants to change for woman he loves.

They were good for each other and they complemented each other in some way, but I would have liked to feel more chemistry between them. Also I felt their relationship progressed a little too fast.

I also liked Sam, but I must admit - I wanted him out of the picture.

The story ends with a cliffhanger, a big one, so I’m looking forward to read the next installment.

Wow! This was quite the roller coaster! And what an ending! When I finished the book, I stared mournfully at the page, my hands seemingly surgically attached to the sides of my Kindle, heart pounding lost in a sea of bewilderment. How can it just end like that? I knew it wasn’t going to conclude – I was counting down the remaining percentage on my Kindle with an increasing sense of doom – we were going to be left hanging, twitching for the next instalment like a addict awaiting a fix. Rebecca Shea – you sure do make junkies of us all

This is the story of Emilia, who’s grown up in abject poverty in a trailer with her feckless and depressive mother (her father having bailed seemingly seconds after conception!). After the loss of her mother, she goes looking for her father who pretty much slams the door in her face.

My heart broke for Emilia at the beginning of this story. She cuts such a lonely figure – so desperate for love, so naive. She’s like the ultimate prey for some waiting predator to come along and snap her up. I felt so sorry for her – especially with the abrupt and heart-breaking dismissal from her biological father.

Enter stage left – Alex.

Never could a young girl have been more prime for falling into bad company than at the moment when he first sets eyes on Emilia. They’re like the lion and the lamb – he’s from a different and very dangerous world and, even though he thinks he’s protecting her, he’s putting her in deadly peril by taking her into his world. He should have just carried on driving by that fateful day and, instead, look where it has all ended!

I was very absorbed straight away as I always am by a Rebecca Shea novel – her style is engaging and draws you in and I found myself lost in the story almost instantly. Emilia’s devastation at the beginning was a palpable thing and I rapidly got into her mindset. The alternating POV works very well here allowing us to hear from both of the main protagonists and you need to hear from Alex as he really did have me wondering what on earth he was up to for a large part of this novel.

I did really enjoy this – it’s very suspenseful and atmospheric as it builds towards its pulsating conclusion but I did feel that the book could have been at least 100 pages longer. A lot happens and a lot of it too quickly for my liking, especially the last 25%. It’s shock after shock without time to absorb and reflect – we’re hurtled from one startling revelation into the next and I really wanted to slow down at this point and see how the characters were feeling and reacting but it wasn’t to be. Emilia and Alex fall in love a little too quickly – I would have liked to have seen a longer build up there too. Emilia was rather too trusting – she just accepts that this devastatingly good looking stranger hanging out at a seedy motel by night only has good intentions. She’s massively naive.

So, in conclusion, a good and suspenseful romance but I needed it to be a little longer to get deeper character development and just to see more of their feelings and emotions but it’s a humdinger of a cliffy and I’ll definitely be back for more.

I listened to this audiobook over the course of a few days during my commute. While it was straightforward and easy to follow, it lacked the intensity and darkness that I would expect from a book in this sub-genre. For a Mafia story, the Hero was more teddy bear than lion. Alex was supposed to be this bad kingpin, but he seemed emotional and overly "soft". I didn't find his character to be very convincing in that regard.

As for Emilia, she had to be incredibly naive. However, given her backstory of being brought up poor and from the rough side of town, I found her naivety to be unbelievable as well. Was she really all that surprised to find out that the secretive, wealthy man that she met in a sketchy hotel on the wrong side of town was a criminal? Come on!

I had similar difficulty swallowing how easily Sam just stumbled upon Emilia. Everything in this story just seemed to fall together a little too seamlessly and coincidentally to be believable. Instead, I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes at the implausibility of it all.

To be fair, it did start off strong. If I hadn't been so dissatisfied with the way things worked out in the end, I probably would have given it 4 stars. Overall, it was okay, but if you're looking for a gritty, dark Mafia story, I'd keep looking.

Well this is a very plot driven story, suspenseful slow burn, yet uputtadownable as I just wanted to know what was happening next the more I read.

So what's it about?
Emilia has been brought up in a trailer van in a poor area, not much of a rich lifestyle but she was rich in love by her mum. Who gave up everything to take care of her. Yet one day her mum got shot and so she's alone with no friends, not much money and know where to live. So she gets on a bus and travels in the heat to a motel 'for now'. That's where she meets Alex whom takes her under her wing.

Alex is part owner of the drug cartel, yet honestly he doesn't want to be, what he wants is to have dreams for his own life and he is actually loving and caring and only wants the best for Emeilia.

I know there are many reviews out there and this is an old book but I'm catching up before I read betrayed by lies which is the third book in this series and out next week. So I'm going to leave it there. But what I am going to say is this is a very high plotted read, you get to know the characters bit by bit and what makes them tick. Then there's also Sam the intriguing character that Emeilia makes friends with, which adds another dimension to this book. There's lies, secrets and then theirs love.

Why not 5 Stars
This book had me hooked pretty much from get go and the more I read the more I was invested. Butttt I'd say it's not really realistic there was something that just didn't feel real to me, maybe that the characters were a tad closed off so it at times felt like a lonely read in terms of the characters connecting with each other. If that makes sense... but still I really enjoyed it and the plot thickens at the end I'm diving into bound by lies to see what happens next..

That is all...

Is it the book? My mood? The timing?

*sighs* I don't know. But I know that I tried twice to read this book and couldn't get past 25%.

I don't like the heroine or hero. The timing. The instant everything. I'm not buying it. I can't say third times the charm cause I'm officially done. My reading time is too valuable and precious to a full time mom, wife and working woman. Moving on.....

E infine arriva Sam Cortez.
Amico.
Porto sicuro.
Agente Federale.
#Qualcunochenonmisareimaiaspettata

OMFG what now?! ♥

Broken by Lies (Bound and Broken #1) by Rebecca Shea
4 stars!!

“…but I’m drawn to the danger – attracted to the stranger.”

Wow!! That was some journey, I think I have whip lash, my brain has been bounced around a bit and I cannot think straight, but what an ending! One that I never saw coming! The last 25% of this book is fast paced and action packed and leaves you catching your breath, a lot happens, there is a lot to digest and it has taken me a while to comprehend what I have read and being able to put them down into a review. But here goes…

Emilia has had a really crappy life, her mother is incapable of looking after herself let alone a child, her father let straight after conception never to be seen again, she has been brought up in a trailer and basically left to fend for herself and look after her mum. She struggles to keep the trailer over their head and her mother seems intent on a downward spiral and so one day when she comes home to see ambulances and police she knows that it isn’t good news. So now that her mum has left her and she has no one Emilia decides to find her biological father and so begins a road trip to heartbreak.

Her father basically slams the door in her face and Emilia is devastated, she ends up in some run down motel, crying her eyes out, being rejected once again, nowhere to go, no one to go to, she is devastated.

Alex is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. He just so happens to be at the same run down motel, he battles with himself, he shouldn’t stop, he should just carry on, but something draws him to the girl crying her eyes out. He stops, he helps, he shouldn’t but he does. And so begins this sorry tale, Alex thinks he is doing the right thing to counter all the bad in his life. He shouldn’t bring this girl into his life, but she shone like a beacon and he couldn’t help himself, he has never wanted anything, but he wants her.

“The feeling to protect and care for a beautiful stranger that I just met scares the living shit out of me.”

Emilia was extremely naïve and vulnerable and any normal girl wouldn’t have got in that car, but Alex exuded honesty and integrity, she felt that she could trust him and he soon proves that her initial opinion of him was spot on. It was easy to tell that he was hiding his “real” job and it was obvious that his real job could put Emilia in danger. It was a bit instalove but it does happen and it is not long before that initial friendship turns into more.

“When I see you, all I see is good, Em. I’m so sorry I brought you into the middle of this. It was selfish of me.” So fucking selfish.

This is where the story really starts and it really ramps up. I felt so sorry for Alex, he was born into this world and he didn’t want it, he had always been the brains behind the scenes but now that his father was in prison it was up to him to run the “cartel” and he didn’t want to. But it is what was expected and if you don’t do as you are told you end up on the wrong end of a gun. He really was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I sympathised with him and I empathised and as much as he wanted to do the right thing he also wanted to do something for himself. He does come clean to Emilia and she accepts it, she would rather have him as he was than not have him at all and it means that both of them need to change. But with the FBI breathing down his neck his life never runs smooth and Sam the FBI agent now has an Achilles heel for Alex…Emilia.

“Don’t ever leave me again. I’m lost without you. I’m so tired of being lost…”

I really enjoyed this read, it was tense and suspenseful and I was fully immersed into Emilia and Alex’s story, I have to say that a few of the reveals were a tad predictable but as I said above the ending…I never saw coming. The writing kept me captivated from start to finish, the tension was palpable and even though it was instalove I really felt Alex’s emotions. I cannot wait to see what life has in store for these two, with an ending like that I am itching for the next book, like seriously itching, I really, really, really need it NOW! Rebecca Shea, you better write quick!

Wow! Ok, so romantic suspense isn't my favorite. Suspense of any kind really. But I was totally enthralled with this story from the beginning! The pace was perfect for me. Enough angst with enough information to not make me go crazy with questions. I so enjoyed these characters. Emilia is such a strong girl who has endured more than her share of heartache. And Alex, my word, he is absolutely tortured on so many levels but he is so good despite it all. I love him and the way he takes care of Emilia. I had a feeling I knew how this book was going to end and I sure was happy that the next book is already queued up and I'm 25% in already! So excited I started this series.

What do you get when you throw together a small town country girl brought up on the brink of poverty with a very sexy as sin, wealthy business man? Well, you would hope it would be a rags to riches, match made in heaven, they fit so perfectly together kinda fairy tale. Yeah well, that only happens in romance novels... lol. Kidding aside, the hopeless romantic in me was wishing this had been one of those stories but hey, there are loads of those about and I'd have probably been bored to tears after the first few chapters. So I'm glad Rebecca Shea decided to shake things up a little bit and give us a book that was a little different and definitely unpredictable. In fact the last 25% had my jaw dropping with all the revelations I just never saw coming. I was so focused on one certain aspect of the story and how that side of things would unravel that I missed the clues. I blooming' missed it all. The worst bit... I didn't realise it was a series which means I didn't see the cliffy coming either. I kept getting closer and closer to the end, wondering how they were going to wrap so many elements of the story line up in so few pages and then it happened... BAM... to be continued.... I'm such a dumb ass. It wasn't a secret. I just didn't notice that it was #1 of the "Bound and Broken" series... lol. Note to self... always check!!! Regardless though, I'm so glad I picked up Alex and Emelia's story and I cannot wait to see what the next book brings for the couple.
I can't give her more, and she deserves more than the broken dreams, lies, and deceit that I can offer her. My world will hurt her, maybe even destroy her.

The prologue for "Broken by Lies" was definitely an attention grabber, giving us an insight into the moment where Emelia's life was turned on its head, leaving her alone in the world with nothing but a small bag of possessions, $200 and a piece of paper with the name and address of her father... the man who had upped and left the minute he discovered he was to be a dad. Unfortunately, the meeting didn't quite go to plan thus leaving Emelia feeling even more abandoned and alone than ever. My heart truly broke for her because fate really was being a bitch of the worst kind. This was a young girl who had struggled her whole life and I just wanted a break for her, a silver lining in all the misery that had been thrown her way. Well, it appeared her knight in shining armour wasn't far away and just when she thought she'd finally hit rock bottom, her path quite literally crossed with a certain Mr Alex Estrada, a man who offered her the hand of friendship and a roof over her head... and believe it or not, it appeared there were no strings!!! Fantastic... at last, things were looking up. Well yeah sort of. The thing is, I knew things about Alex that Emelia didn't and if he had his way, he would keep those truths from her for as long as possible.
"You don't know anything about me, Em. This" - he gestures up and down his body - "is smoke and mirrors. It's a mask for the evil I am inside."

Oh Alex, I was so torn with his character. I know he was trying to do a good thing when he offered Emelia a shelter but I really don't think he'd thought things through. I got that he was a man who was caught between a rock and a hard place, stuck in a life he was born into but despised with every ounce of his being. And I got that realistically, there was no way out for him. However was bringing Emelia into his world the right decision? On one hand he said he was trying to protect her but if anything, he was almost leading a lamb to slaughter. I knew in my heart of hearts that whatever developed between the pair (and of course it did), this couldn't possibly end well. Emelia's character for so oblivious to what was going on around her and her youth and naivety clearly reflected that. She just didn't pick up on any of the clues that all wasn't quite what it appeared to be. Even after the relationship turned from friendship to more, I guess her focus then turned to her man as opposed to what he was hiding... and trust me, this man had some major secrets!!!
Part of me is dead set on using her. The other part of me wants to rescue her.
Unfortunately Alex wasn't the only one with secrets. There were so many characters I was introduced to, all playing their part in this tangled web of lies and deceit and at times it was difficult to tell who was friend or foe. I tried to guess the motives of so many of those I met but it wasn't easy and at times it was damn right impossible.

All in all, this was a good introduction to the series and with the last few chapters unraveling the way they did, I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!!! Roll on June 2015!!!

I rated "Broken by Lies" ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Emilia and Alex were all sorts of CALIENTE! It was one of those things where sparks and hot, sexual attraction flew from the very start. It wasn't insta-love. It was more like insta-oh-hey-there. They balanced each other out. He was a bit alpha and overprotective. And she was a bit not having it. She was the ying to his yang. It was as if they were destined for each other. Alas, there's always a bit of a twist in that journey into happily ever after.

Oh the lies! See the thing with lies is that the truth is always right around the corner ready to come out. Broken By Lies is a pretty good story that included some added suspense which helped keep the story moving. This is my first read from this author and will likely not be my last.

We meet Emilia who is down on her luck. She has been left alone after the passing of her mother. Emilia travels to Phoenix in hopes of connecting with her father - a man who she's never met. The beginning of the story definitely reeled me in. Emilia arrives in Phoenix, but her plans don't turn out the way she was hoping. She's heartbroken after being denied by the last real family that she has. She ends up meeting Alex who offers to help Emilia and offers her a place to stay. This is truly where the story begins to unravel.

Right away Alex has an urge to protect and provide for Emilia. But what Emilia doesn't know is that Alex' life is full of secrets, lies and danger. He wants to be good for her, but his lifestyle is not fit for Emilia.

It doesn't take too long to figure out some of the story's plots and where things were headed, but I still enjoyed it. It did take me a while to feel the connection between Alex and Emilia. I actually really enjoyed Emilia's character. She young and naive, but likable.

The story has just enough twists and turns to keep you connected and wanting to know more. There is a major cliffhanger so brace yourself! I tend to like cliffy's so this was fine for me. I will definitely be on the look out for the next book in this series to see where the story takes us.

Ana 4 stars After losing her mother, Emilia goes searching for her father and, although that turns out differently than she expected, her life will never be the same again. By chance, she meets Alex and this is when the roller coaster ride begins. This is a very quick moving story. Everything about the storyline, the twists and turns, and even the romance moves at lightening speed. That is, until it hits the end and a very big cliffhanger. As always, Rebecca Shea’s writing is wonderful. Smooth and engaging. There’s just enough description to keep you satisfied but not so much as to bog down the storyline. It makes reading her books effortless.

These two characters are both carrying baggage due to their family situations. Both find themselves in a place they can’t begin to imagine how to get out of. And both need something more from life. Emilia is alone in the world and broke. Alex is stuck in his current situation simply by having been born into it. And, although he’s very wealthy, it comes with just as many obstacles as the ones that she faces. When they meet, he instinctively wants to help her and the story develops from there. Although Alex knows it’s probably not the best idea to bring Emilia into his world, he does so anyway. And I must admit that even after reading the book and enjoying it, I still don’t quite know how I feel about that decision. After all, he knew that nothing good would come from it and that he was putting her in danger. I was equally surprised by Emilia’s ability to trust him almost immediately after meeting him. This decision would definitely be considered questionable in the real world. But then I remind myself that this is a book, that everything moves more quickly in stories and that the author is just showing me that the heart wants what it wants. Both of these characters are so desperate to live more normal lives that they’re absolutely willing to take the chance. Their chemistry is definitely strong and that adds to the intensity of the story and makes the quick romance more understandable. And hearing the story from both their points of view was an added bonus. It helped me better understand the story as it progressed and ensured that I understood where each was coming from.

Because I didn’t see all of the twists and turns coming, I don’t want to ruin them for you either. Just know that this is one of those books that you will want to curl up with and read cover to cover. You’ll be immersed in the storyline quickly and you’ll want to unravel the mystery around these two. I’m not sure what will happen next but I know that I’m interested in finding out.

Celeste 4.5 stars *breathes into paper bag* I love mafia stories and I had no idea this was about organized crime when I went in. If I loved Rebecca before, I love her even more now. Except for that ending….nah, I still love her even though I was left totally hanging.

I’ll get right to it…I loved Alex Estrada. Holy sexy, holy bossy, holy powerful and holy guilt ridden man that I’d love to touch all over have in my life. He hated himself, yet couldn’t help but want to have a brightness in it. That brightness was Emilia.

Emilia was also a great MC. Hopeless, her life seemed so bleak and lonely…but then Alex swooped in. While her brain cautioned her, her heart and her body told her to trust him. I loved the conflict, and I loved how she gave in. She had nothing to lose and everything to gain and she went for it, and that made me so happy!

Now let’s talk holy crap moments. I think I had about 10 of them. I knew some “things” were meant to foreshadow other “things”, but I never predicted half the ways “things” went down. I do love a good twist and turn, and this story brought it big time.

The ending was a mother loving cliff hanger. Rebecca, I kind of love/hate you a lot right now. I have also just done something I regret: I read the synopsis for book 2. *cries* I have made the ending worse. But I can’t stop thinking about it and now have all the thoughts and theories and omg, I hope I’m right. Basically, this story isn’t even close to being over and I am dying to get my hands on the next installment.

Anything I needed to be done differently? I think the profession of love. Both characters loved too quickly for me. The chemistry and romance were written well enough so that the reader could tell their relationship was something special, I don’t think the label of love was needed until way later in the story. However, it didn’t make me like it any less, I just don’t think they knew they loved each other so early on.

Questions? Yes. I have so many. I can’t really list them because it might spoil, but I’m pretty sure nothing in this entire story happened by chance. So sit down, buckle up, and get ready for the ride…it’s gripping!

Rec this? YES! If you love a hot sexy romantic suspense this is for you.

4-4.5 stars

After losing her mother, Emilia strikes off on her own in search of the father she has never known. It takes her from Illinois to Arizona, but does not go as she hoped. Fortunately for her she meets Alex Estrada and he takes pity on her and tries to help the lost girl alone in a new city. He lives in luxury, is mysterious, but is kind and helpful to her. But she has no idea what he does for a living or that danger surrounds him.

Everything about her is pure--good, and for every moment I'm with her, I want to be a better man, a mans she deserves. But under the desire to do good, lives a monster.

Alex is intelligent, handsome, wealthy, and runs the family business. He is a man stuck in a world he does not want to be a part of, but sees little chance of escape. And she is a woman just trying to find her place in the world. She is naive and inexperienced, but also resilient and independent. She has lived a rough life where she always had to be responsible. Something about her pulls him in. He is alpha, protective, and enjoys taking care of her. There is a duality about him between who is supposed to be in business and how he is with her. Together they make each other feel needed and wanted. But they are both hesitant to label it or expect too much.

I can't give her more, and she deserves more than the broken dreams, lies, and deceit that I can offer her. My world will hurt her, maybe even destroy her.

His life is dangerous and unpredictable and she is now thrust right in the middle of it. He has impossible choices to make. He has many obligations, but also wants to keep her safe. But he knows that is difficult and he cannot offer her the easy happiness that she really deserves. But the deeper she gets into his life, the more lies he has to tell. But every day he runs the risk of her finding out.

When all of his lies are exposed will it send her running or put her in more danger?

I wonder what lie he'll tell me next, and I wonder if it'll be the one to break me.

There were lies, secrets, omissions, and some really interesting twists and surprises that were gradually revealed as the story built. There were side characters changing the dynamics and several antagonists that either made me mad or made my skin crawl. This is different than Rebecca's other novels with more of a romantic suspense and somewhat darker feel. But I was sucked in from the first page. I was glad to get both points of view so I could really understand the feelings of both of them. The characters were complex, likable, and had depth. The conflicts were significant, challenging, and complicated. It flowed well and kept me intrigued til the exciting Holy Crap ending. I can't wait for the next book Bound by Lies.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Am I really alone in thinking that this book doesn't have anything ? I couldn't even finish it, I'm not sure I'm even halfway through the book but I seriously can't continue.

I mean, it starts with a tragedy then she meets boy and boy is intrigued and invites her immediately to live with him despite his secrets : instalove. She is stupid enough to go live with a guy who picks her up in the street. He says that he has this instant need to protect her and they already feel like they have known each other forever, even though it's been 2 days. It makes no sense whatsoever and I'm sorry I'm in the minority but I can't understand how it has such a good rating.

3.5 I'm intrigued to see where this one is going. It had a decent plot but I would have liked more details. I needed more of the lifestyle. It was sort of grazed over.

5 amazing and gut wrenching stars
I sit here in awe of Rebecca Shea 's talent; she has woven a complex ,thrilling and beautiful story .I am in agony because like many other reviewers I have to wait patiently for the next novel in the Series to find out if I will sigh in happiness or scream in agony.....God give me the strength '''

In this novel we meet Emilia who has just lost her mother due to tragic circumstances ,having no other relatives she decides to go to Phoenix to locate her father who abandoned both her and her mother before her birth. Upon her arrival she literally runs into an enigmatic stranger, Alex.

In a singular act of kindness that will forever bond them to each other both Alex and Emilia embark on an emotional journey that will either shatter them into pieces or bound them to each other ????

Alex is secretive, kind, gentle and spiritual. His life is not one that he wants ;it is one that he endures for the sake of his Father and the family's business. He wants nothing more than to have a normal life ;in Emilia he sees his future and his salvation.

"God, she’s beautiful . Everything about her is pure— good, and for every moment I’m with her, I want to be a better man, a man she deserves. But under the desire to do good, lives a monster"...Alex

This is such a beautifully written story, the depth of the emotions and the agony of these characters are so palpable .
I sighed, swooned ,cried and yelled in that particular order.

"There is nowhere in the world I’d rather be than buried deep within her. All of her. Her body . Her heart. Her soul. She is the good I seek. She is the pure I long to be. She is worth everything I will give up to be with her"....Alex

"He holds on to me like he can’t let go, like he’ll die without me. But the pain on his face tells another story, the real story— he can and will live without me"....Emilia

This is the Hallmark of an immensely talented author ;through the medium of words I was both enthralled and enamored by these protagonists...This is the first novel I've read by Ms.Shea and I can say with absolute confidence that it will not be my last.

It was an absolute pleasure to read this novel,I now look forward to the next offering in these amazing Series.

Only one word could adequately summarize this reading experience ;sublime.

Suspense, Suspense, Suspense!

Sweet-gosh-dam-OMG! A suspense story with a cliff-hanger never pens to my desire need to read ASAP but gosh oh-mighty I trademarked Rebecca Shea as one to one-click ALWAYS, so when her upcoming release Broken by Lies came out a month early, I had a break in my schedule to pick it up and read fully knowing I might regret it. Do I regret it? Yes and No. Blatantly speaking there is a cliffhanger, so if your not a fan of them don’t pick it up. I’m unlike most can usually deal with cliffhangers so the sexiness that guides and the eluding suspense riddled within the book hold a depth that usually can having me going back and rereading before the next book in series. Shea does this to a tee, I was flabbergasted at the end, I have to say and wondering some unPGnated thoughts and explicits.

The awe of the woven characteristics within the book can be very hit and miss; if your not one for danger and illegal activities you might want to steer clear but what Broken by Lies has is very nurtured in that is poises a relationship between a man; Alex and a women; Emilia that have FLAWS and a drawn despite all the factors of the world to each other. Emilia; lost everything when tragedy struck and travels with the little money she has to find her father, in her innocence she is broken. The day Alex walks into her life, her aspects of all her foundations change; which is beautiful and gut wrenching to watch as nothing is as it seems. The intensity within Alex and Em’s relationship altered and grips of so many twists made me glued to my kindle.

A truly beautiful and gripping story that left me in awe yet again of Rebecca’s talents as a writer intriguing her audience and although not usually a fan of suspense I dived in and loved it. I can’t wait to read Bound by Lies.

I love Rebecca Shea's books, but unfortunately this one didn't work for me. The instant attraction and some of the actions of the heroine just didn't hit the mark. I will continue to read her books in the future.

I really liked this book. There's something about both Alex and Emilia that just make you want to root for them, no matter what. The last part of the book moved so fast that I kept swiping my kindle begging the page to turn and give me more. Seriously, I need the next book. Like, now!

I absolutely loved this author's Unbreakable series, so I couldn't wait to read more books from her! When I heard about this book, I knew I was reading it as soon as it released! The cover then definitely sealed the deal that I was going to read it as soon as it released lol! I loved this book! Absolutely loved it! It was exactly my kind of book and I had such a hard time putting it down once I had started reading! The plot was amazing! It had a bit of suspense and action in it and plenty of romance! There were plenty of hot scenes in it too! I just loved the plot! It developed at the perfect pace and there were some unexpected twist and turns in it too! I loved the twist and turns! They added so much to the plot and I didn't see most of them coming! Overall, I just loved the plot, and it definitely exceeded my high expectations! The characters were amazing! Emilia was the main female character, and I felt really sorry for her in this book! She had been through a lot, seen a lot of horrible things and grew up in a poor environment! She also just wanted to be accepted and be loved by someone who loved her! Emilia was a really strong character though and she proved this as this book developed! I just loved her! I also connected really well with her as well! I loved that she was shy, but that she became a bit more confident as the book progressed! She learned a lot in this book and grew a lot as a character! I can't wait to see her grow in the next book! 'Alejandro' Alex was the main male character and love interest of Emilia! Alex was seriously hot, but tangled up in a load of illegal and dangerous stuff! I could understand why he was tangled up in this kind of stuff because of the family he was in! I loved Alex! I could understand his reluctance to start something with Emilia as he wanted to keep her out of danger, but they were seriously hot together! I could also see that Alex had strong feelings for Emilia, and he was also very protective of her! Alex surprised me in this book with the amount of love he did have for Emilia! He was willing to give up everything for a chance at a normal life with her, which made me fall even more in love with him lol! There was a bit of a love triangle in this book, and this was between Emilia, Alex and Sam! I loved that the love triangle wasn't the main focus of the plot, but that it was there! I can see it progressing more in the next book, but that all depends on the outcome of the end of this book! I loved that this book was written from both Alex and Emilia's point of views! It made the plot even better and seeing the characters feelings for each other grow though both of their eyes was so beautiful! I can't wait to read the next book in this series! The ending of this book was insane and I'm going to be on pins and needles for the next book's release! I hope it releases sooner rather than later! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! I fell completely in love with it as soon as I saw it and it's definitely one of my favourites! Big thank you to Rebecca and Holly's Red Hot Reviews for a copy of Broken by Lies!
