I'm Not His Style

Rate this book
Real men only ever let Beth Parker down. From her absentee father to her current dating pool, Beth has learned over and over again that the only men she can count on are on TV. Specifically, celebrity heartthrob Rhett Myers. Why spend tears and heartache on real relationships when Rhett’s characters, who will never let her down, are available at the push of a button? Which is why she’s over the moon to network her way into a job doing hair and makeup for a well-known actress—who also happens to work alongside Rhett. Who knows—maybe Beth will get a chance to find out if he’s the same perfect gentleman offscreen that he is on it.

When Beth dreams of meeting Rhett, pajamas and zero makeup do not play a starring role in her fantasy. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the first impression she makes when she runs into him at the worst possible time. Luckily, their anti-meet-cute is just the beginning of their acquaintance. When Beth is tasked with styling Rhett himself, she quickly learns that there is an incredible man beneath the charming veneer. A friendship develops between them, but even as they toe the line of romance, Beth struggles to imagine a future together. In Hollywood, the boundary between fact and fiction is often blurred. How can she determine what is acting and what is real?

A celebrity romance from Kasey Stockton? I'm there!

'I realized for the first time that despite having every Google-able fact about this man memorized, I knew almost nothing about him as a human. Which only made me want to know him more.'

Celebrity romance is such a fun trope as the character's find out who they really are when all of the fame is wiped away.

I loved every aspect of this book. The characters were so fun. I loved the flirting, I loved the banter, the UNO games, grand gestures, and sweet moments. This is such a great book in every way! I have so many highlighted sections and cannot wait to reread this book again and again!

This is a top 2024 read for me, and I HIGHLY recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content: celebrity romance, swoony romance-kisses only!

Please tell me I wasn’t the only teen who used to daydream about meeting my celebrity crush. I just knew he’d fall for me after our meet cute and I know Beth is with me.

“I’d been planning on marrying this guy since I was fourteen, and I was blowing our meet cute.”

Beth is a hair stylist and makeup artist and by the fates of fortune, lands a job styling her teenage crush, Rhett. Their first meet had me laughing and rolling my eyes, but don’t get me wrong–my heart swooned and swooped too, and those feelings only intensified throughout the book.

This story is told from Beth’s point-of-view and she’s a fantastic character. While Beth “thrives in tumultuous situations,” she’s kind to the core and always looking for ways to help those around her, and is especially good with hair and makeup. The moments of secret relationships, fake dating, paparazzi, life on the road and in the limelight really captured the essence of the characters and plot. I couldn’t get enough of Rhett and his goodness while living the movie star life. He’s so down-to-earth, intriguing, sweet, charitable, and lives up to a teenage dream.

From front to back and top to bottom, this is a story worth loving.

Content: mild romance

Mini Review:

I’m Not His Style ⭐️2
•This one was a miss for me. The trope of fan girl and movie star falling in love flopped on this one. The main character came across as possessive and obsessed with the male lead. It was a bit cringy. I was disappointed because I usually enjoy Kasey Stockton’s books.

Beth gets an unexpected opportunity when Rhett needs a new stylist for his charity tour. She can't pass it up and scrambles to reschedule her clients. Hitting the road brings both friendship and the possibility of more.
Bring me any book that gives the girl next door a romance with someone in the limelight. I just love the juxtaposition of an opposites attract in an unlikely scenario. This celebrity romance gave me a little bit of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton vibes (without the love triangle bits).
Thank you to the au t or for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

Why it wasn’t a five star:
There was some repetition with Beth’s internal monologue that gave a lull to the flow of the novel.

I’m Not His Style by Kasey Stockton

Celebrity romance at its finest. I was drawn in quickly and couldn’t put it down!

I absolutely loved the first book in this series I’m Not Charolette Lucas and was so excited to pick this one up. We got glimpses of Beth and Rhett in the first book and getting their points of view and the story of them falling in love was so much fun!

I loved the charity tour setting and each new character introduced. Seeing old characters and little glimpses into their continued lives was done so well.

'I realized for the first time that despite having every Google-able fact about this man memorized, I knew almost nothing about him as a human. Which only made me want to know him more.'

The romance was sweet and I loved watching the characters blossom along side their feelings for each other. Their little moments together were dreamy.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but I just couldn’t get into this one. The romance came together too quickly and easily. The way the celebrity premise was handled felt very unrealistic. The MC was really whiny and I didn’t find her endearing. I had no idea why the love interest fell for her in the first place. The love interest was also bland and uninteresting. I’m sad to say that this book was just not my style.

Prepare yourself to read a lot of me gushing about this book. I loved every single word, sentence, page of this book. It was so fun.

Beth is SO funny. I adored her. I have highlights on every page. There are so many hilarious, sweet, fun moments in this story. Every character is done so well.

Here’s some of my favorites: internal Charlie voice, Rhett, food, nicknames, Beth’s inner thoughts, Betsy, haircut, Empire State Building, their talks, (can’t say more without spoiling but I loved it all so much)!
The development of their friendship/relationship was wonderful. The seeds the author plants are so well done. I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen and how the story would play out. I absolutely loved it.

I really liked this book because I’ve never read a romance like this one! (It’s about a famous actor and a “normal” girl falling in love) The last few chapters were an emotional roller coaster!

My celebrity romance cup is overflowing—this read is so full with a secret relationship, some fake dating, paparazzi, and heartfelt and heart-wrenching moments.

Things I Loved:
-“I think you take delight in vexing me.”
-Chicago
-Frenchy
-Uno
-Lobster rolls & Boston cream pies
-“Rhett: Glad you could finally join us.
Me: I’m sorry, but who is this?”
-Almost-but-not-really friend-date
-Pizza
-Empire State Building
-“Those things are so small. Nearly inconsequential.” “I doubt they’re small or inconsequential to the people you’ve helped.”
-The dance
-“I like you in pajamas and morning hair. I like you in formal gowns. I like you in black—which seems to be 90 percent of your wardrobe. I like you in shorts with tennis shoes. I like you in bright-pink sweatpants. I don’t care what you look like. I just like you.”
-“Why do I have a feeling this is somehow Austen-related?”

This book had the very best ending! I finished this read with a giant smile on my face. Also, this is a perfect sequel to I’m Not Charlotte Lucas, so if you loved that one, be sure to grab this up. But it can definitely be read stand alone.

Like all of Kasey’s book, I was drawn in from the very beginning and it wouldn’t let me go! I devoured it, but what a wonderful feast!

I loved the main characters and how their relationship progressed. So much swoony flirting. So many sweet gestures of love and caring.

I liked the Jane Austen references. The supporting characters were very likable and real. The beach…❤️ and flirty conversations, text messages, etc.

If you like romances at all you will love this! If you like celebrity stories you’ll love this. If you’re looking for a dream come true with a fairytale ending. This is it!

I'm going with 4 stars for this one because despite some of the shortcomings I enjoyed it a lot.

Full spoilers (maybe including for I'm Not Charlotte Lucas).

We're introduced to Beth as she fills in as a stylist for a superstar actress who is conveniently the co-star of her enduring childhood crush Rhett. Beth is immediately an endearing and unique character who I felt was very well characterised. She herself tells us she's not afraid of tumultuous things, in fact she craves a thrill. She's confident in her skills as a stylist but has deep insecurities as a person given she was abandoned by her father super young and doubts that people are truly willing to stick around for her. She's also self-aware and understands how her insecurities affect her romantic relationships. And she's deeply in love with actor Rhett and would do almost anything (scratch that, she'll do anything to make him fall in love with her).

This is how we're introduced to Beth. And I was somewhat wary that I had unknowingly signed up for what could have been a major cringe-fest of social awkwardness. Especially when we're getting lines like:
Tonight, I was checking into my hotel, getting my favourite Indian food, and planning how our meet-cute would go...I just needed to find a way to make myself irresistible to him

But thankfully what we got was Beth (despite her deep infatuation with Rhett) getting to know Rhett on a human level, and Rhett somewhat letting his guard down. The first half of this was pure solid fun, and also very funny. For example:

He nodded toward the brush in my hand. "No, it's fine. Just don't slit my throat with that thing."
That was uncalled for. I lifted the smooth, wooded-handled power brush. "Oh yeah, watch out for this super dangerous weapon. Don't look. I need to quickly whittle it into a shiv."

It was super heartfelt, and the beginnings of connection between Beth and Rhett was palpable.

So why the use of past tense and emphasis on the first half of the book?

Well I think the foundation laid was superb:
- For one thing the book does a great job of actually showing the demarcation of the love that Beth had for Rhett as a fan, and the deeper truer feelings she develops for him as a person.

- We also see how Beth's insecurities of never having been in a serious relationship and not being sure if anyone would ever commit to her play into her complicated relationship with Rhett who is in the public eye and is playing a public relations game. Great.

- We see Beth's need for trust, and we can see how her feelings being further along than Rhett's play into her needing more concrete affirmations from him.

All of this foundation was excellent, and made me feel really engaged with the book. I actually felt that this was a couple who had many problems to solve and not all of them were straightforward and only came down to communication (although a fair amount of it did). We saw Beth willing to tackle their issues head-on but how Rhett's occupation and pre-occupation with his public image really hamstrung their relationship progressing in a healthy way.

So I guess what I'm saying is the second half had a lot of tension and conflict which I wasn't necessarily expecting but also surprisingly enjoyed. For example, I'm not usually one who is looking for the main couple to have fight, but in this book I found myself just that. "When they next speak, they better fight about this and resolve it". However, despite my general buy-in to the conflict, I feel the resolution wasn't as cathartic as I would have liked. Rhett messes up to the point that Beth (bless her) does break up with him and set super health boundaries. As a reader I was on her side. Rhett for his part does resolve things and makes up to Beth in a way that is in keeping with what she wants. However the point from A to B felt that smidge too short for me to truly get back on board with Rhett again, and that's why this is 4 stars, and a 3-star rating could have been argued for.

Anyway, can't wait to read more from Stockton who is truly one of my favourite authors.

This book had me grinning like a fool, whispering “Oh no, Beth” at least seventeen times, and swooning so hard I nearly dropped my book. 𝙄’𝙢 𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚 by Kasey Stockton is the ultimate celebrity-crush-turned-real-life-romance that delivers fangirl fantasy and grounded feels in equal measure.

Beth is a makeup artist who’s mastered flawless contouring but is emotionally allergic to real-life romance… and a Hollywood heartthrob who has no business being this kind, this charming, or this good at Uno. It’s chaotic meet-cute meets soft-burn tenderness, and it works so well you’ll wish it came with behind-the-scenes bloopers.

This is the kind of romcom that’s effortlessly funny, surprisingly vulnerable, and clean without ever losing the spark. It’s for every woman who taped Tiger Beat posters to her wall and still side-eyes real men for never quite measuring up. Spoiler: Stockton gives us one who does.

🩷 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗗
• 🎬 The anti-meet-cute that could only happen to Beth
• 💁‍♀️ A relatable heroine with charm, quirks, and a deep-rooted celeb crush
• 🧠 Rhett’s unexpected depth beneath the megawatt smile
• 🃏 Uno as a coping mechanism (where do I sign up?)
• 💬 Banter that feels natural and fun—not over-rehearsed sitcom dialogue
• 🗽 Big city magic, beachy scenes, and real-world stakes
• 🌟 Self-identity—who we are vs. who the world thinks we should be

👀 𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝗠𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗙𝗢𝗥 (𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲!)
• That cringe‑worthy first run-in
• The haircut. (Trust me—you’ll know the one.)
• “Want to play Uno?”—the most romantic invitation of the year
• One perfectly placed Tonight Show appearance
• That beach scene (bring tissues. And sunglasses. For disguise.)
• The grand gesture. I mean… come on 🫠

💭 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦
This isn’t just a daydream dressed up as a book—it’s a full-on backstage pass into the messy, spark-filled, emotional reality of what happens when your screen idol becomes your actual maybe-person. Beth’s journey from fantasy to trust feels real, earned, and so satisfying. And Rhett? Let’s just say I now expect every man to bring emotional depth and a deck of Uno cards to the table.

This book gave me butterflies, belly laughs, and maybe a tear or two. Stockton gets slow-burn chemistry and builds it without ever leaning on steam. It’s everything I love about clean romance—with all the heart and none of the fluff.

⚠️ 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚/𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦
𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲: None. No profanity or crude dialogue.
𝗦𝗲𝘅: Clean. No open-door or fade-to-black scenes; swoony but chaste.
𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: None.
𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: Brief mentions of father abandonment and past emotional hurt; mild, not traumatic. Embezzlement
𝗧𝗩/𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: TV-G / TV-PG (light)
Think: Hallmark Channel or a wholesome Netflix rom-com

This review hurts to write because I absolutely adored I’m Not Charlotte Lucas. This started off adorable and definitely had some cute moments sprinkled throughout, but I got to a point where the relationship just made me feel uncomfortable and unfortunately, that feeling never changed.

Beth’s obsession with Rhett started to feel icky when she admitted that she pretty much put off committing to any one guy because her crush on Rhett was so strong. Let’s face it — the chances of someone really meeting their celebrity crush, dating them, and falling in love is one in a million. It just felt so odd that Beth would wait to commit until she finally got her chance Rhett which in all probability would never happen.

Another thing that bothered me was the timeline. The meeting, sneaking around and dating all happens within four weeks?? I feel like I’m being generous here. It may have even been shorter, but whatever the case, there wasn’t much to build a relationship on in my opinion. Some of Rhett’s actions were super sweet but we never actually learned much about him personally…which leads to my next problem.

Single POV. I LOVED this in I’m Not Charlotte Lucas because you could totally feel Liam’s feelings through Charlie’s POV, even when Charlie was still oblivious. I actually think this approach worked against this story. With Rhett being an actor and Beth constantly pointing out how well he’s able to turn his feelings on and off at will, it made it hard to know when he was being genuine with Beth especially because they did everything in secret. To me she truly felt like his dirty little secret which made their forbidden relationship feel icky and not exciting.

There was a plot twist at the end that I saw coming and by the time the misunderstandings were cleared up, I was past the point of being invested in Beth and Rhett’s relationship. I was indifferent and I don’t know that anything could have saved this for me. Ooooof, what a heartbreaker.

Thank you to the author and Covenant Communications for the gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.

I enjoyed this movie star escape from reality. I had a goody/giddy smile on my face most of the time reading this. I devoured this book in a couple days, which is super fast for me right now with a physical book. I appreciated the mature conversations - just when you think there will be miscommunication, they actually have a conversation!

While I did think some of the things were a bit far fetched, this is fiction and is not supposed to be real life! So if you want to live out your wildest fantasies about actually dating a movie star, just read this book and imagine yourself in Beth’s place. Rhett is basically Henry Cavill, so no disappointments there!

I loved how I was always kept in my toes, and things didn’t always turn out the way I was thinking they would.

Read this when you need a light, fluffy, beach read that will keep you smiling all day!

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and a positive review was not required.

A charming celebrity romance that’s sweet and clean! Beth is a hairstylist that loves her job; even if it’s demanding brides. With help from Charlie and Liam, she gets to meet movie star Rhett Myers. By chance she’s offered a job as his stylist on a charity tour. Beth shines from the very beginning with her confidence and charisma. She is thoughtful and kind, so Rhett starts to fall for her. Of course there are secrets and misunderstandings, but love and good hair are always possible with the right stylist 😉.

Don’t miss this super cute romance! It’s a companion book to: I’M NOT CHARLOTTE LUCAS.

Perfection!

I was so excited for this book and it was absolutely perfect! I loved every second and couldn’t put it down until I saw how it all unfolded!

I loved Beth so much! She was smart and funny and super talented at what she does! I loved seeing her change from being in love with the idea of Rhett to loving the man himself.

I also loved Rhett! He was so sweet and kind and genuine with Beth! The kind things he did for her and for others when the camera wasn’t rolling were so sweet!

Such a cute celebrity romance love story!!

I’m Not His Style is a fun modern romance with a Pride and Prejudice twist!

Beth is a professional stylist who has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime, being the personal stylist for the celebrity heartthrob Rett Myers!

Beth is a professional and is extremely good at her job, but she now faces the challenge of working for her all time celebrity crush, and not scaring him off with her absolute infatuation!

With romance, friendship, misunderstandings, and lots of laughs I’m Not His Style is a book that should definitely be added to your TBR!

Hair stylist meets celebrity. It’s the perfect romantic scenario, right? When stylist Beth Parker’s dream of a lifetime finally comes true, Beth is beyond excited to meet the famous Rhett Meyers. But when Beth and Rhett actually meet, the reality is one hilarious moment after another and nothing is quite like Beth imagined it would be.

If you’re looking for a light and fun read, this is one you don’t want to miss. I thought both characters were fairly realistic, which sometimes isn’t the case with rom coms. Beth is a great character. She is confident and the best in her industry. I loved her slightly sassy personality… she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it! I love a female lead like this. She has her moments but she knows her worth. This is the kind of woman Rhett genuinely needs but after being in the spotlight for so long, he’s a little hesitant. He’s a great guy but he’s good at hiding his true self behind his celebrity persona. He’s also been taken advantage of before so he needs some extra time but once he sorts things out there is no stopping him!

Full of cute little moments complete with nicknames and witty banter… and fun places like NYC & the red carpet, even The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon… this is a book that will have you rooting for Beth & Rhett to have their happy ending!

Beth is better than this man but she can decide how to live her life. Also that last scene where Charlie named her kid after MR DARCY without her husband knowing is a typecast of when I’m naming my kid some obscure technology reference in the future but my spouse will have no idea

Also I want a spin off with Adalyn!!!

4.5 rounded up, because why would I round down—math is math.

Cute story! I am a sucker for celebrity romance and this was enjoyable. One of those easy, light reads. Won’t be for everyone, but it was for me :)

Almost gave me some Win a Date with Tad Hamilton vibes, but different too. And I say the comparison in a good way, I love that movie.

The 👏 banter 👏 y’all 👏. I can’t get over how good it was. I thought Liam and Charlotte’s banter was good, but I wasn’t prepared for the banter between Beth and Rhett. It was on a whole other level. So excellent! I loved the plot and idea of the story. Kasey did a fantastic job of bringing me in and making me feel all the feels. I’m team Rhett and Beth!

THOUGHTS:

Read if you like:
•longtime crush
•celebrity romance
•secret dating
•forced proximity
•cares for her when she’s sick

After I finished reading I’m Not Charlotte Lucas, I couldn’t wait for Beth & Rhett’s book! And it did not disappoint!

I really enjoyed this book! I loved their meet-cute in the elevator with the mix up of Indian food orders, I loved that even though Beth knew the ins and outs of Rhett due to Google, she really started learning who he was as a human and not just the celebrity.

They had great chemistry, the uno games were fun, the nicknames, how she got him food he liked.. just so many good moments that had me smiling like crazy!

If you are looking for a super cute, closed door romance to read this spring and/or summer, pick this one up! ✂️

They tell you to not meet your heroes, but does that include your celebrity crush?

When her friend Charlotte suggests her as a replacement hair & makeup artist for a morning show appearance for the one and only Sunny Nash, it was an opportunity too good for Beth to turn down. Not only did this moment come with an overnight in San Francisco, the opportunity to impress a rising lead actress, BUT it also comes with the possibility of meeting the only man that has never let Beth down…Rhett Myers.

Sigh.

Since his days as a teen star, Rhett Myers has lived consistently in the mind, on the walls, and in her heart…but it’s when Beth meets him that the person she has adored for so long suddenly becomes more than life, he comes with complex family relationships, exhaustion, anxiety, and other flaws…but these just seem to endear him more to Beth, not push her away. But it will make her question if the world Rhett lives in is one Beth could ever see herself inhabiting.

From the ridiculously adorable meet cute, to the sweet use of uno as an escapism game, this sequel to I’m Not Charlotte Lucas is too good to pass up. The characters (old and new!) are just lovely, the love story just feels vulnerable and realistic to the trope, and it’s filled with quirky moments that bring such a lighthearted ease to reading that it is a delightful experience.

Absolutely recommend!!
