Choose her destiny as his mate and break his curse, or save the pack?

First of all, there was a lot to unpack in that prologue. Like way to much. It easily could have been another book and I think I would have preferred that because that was a huge info dump.

There was some odd writing styles. In the beginning we get a form of proper 18th century English from Lillian and then in changes to an odd slang for BBW (big bad wolf):

"But that requires me being able to reach her or her coming into my domain. How he is even with her and enjoys any time with her still boggles me. If I were him, I'd be after Lillian. That is where it's at."

You'd think this would be reversed but it isn't and feels off to me.

I also find some of the logic odd. An example of that is that there's a beast that is causing people to disappear and her grandmother expects her to go through the woods 4-5 times every day? That's a pretty crappy grandmother. She refuses to move into town to make life easier and safer for her granddaughter and to top it off she's a master gaslighter.

BBW: "Though she denies my existence to Lily, she knows exactly what and who I am."

She's literally been telling Lillian that she's nuts and nothing is out there and that it's all in her head. Wtf? I get she can't say anything but there are other ways to have your characters handle that situation.

Also what is the timeline? They have servants scrubbing floors with buckets and small brushes that don't get paid but also have BBQ ribs. They live in log cabins in the woods but have jeans. It's a little confusing.

Overall I did enjoy the story as illogical as it was though I found myself skimming at around 50% and continuing a proper read at around 80%. There just was a lot of fluff. This easily could have been a really good 150 pg book instead of a mediocre 300 ph book. I appreciate the simplicity of some of it and it's refreshing to have a 0 spice rating but I probably won't read the second book.

If you love Red Riding Hood, then you'll love this. Please be advised this is not smut and the author advertises as such. It is FADE TO BLACK.

It ends on a cliff hanger, but the next book picks up right where the other left off. It's very quick paced and action packed with plenty of suspense to keep you wondering where it is going next. Definitely twists I never saw coming.

****SPOILERS****

The beast which is the big bad wolf is confined to the woods and he's not who you expect. All the killings aren't done by who you think either. There are moments when you think surely it's not him, then you're like but is it? It will be interesting to see how the witches fit in or came to be, but I think that is coming in book three and it explains why the curse is in place, though trinkets are dropped in book two, I believe. There is so much to this that it's hard to put it all into one review.

Great quick read!

The story didn't flow. I had to DNF it and I barely DNF books. I got over a hundred pages in and it just kept getting worse. The story pacing is all over the place and I just didn't like it. This feels very wattpad to me if I had to describe it. The characters are flat, the world building isn't very defined. I really wanted to love this book, because the premise seemed so interesting but it just wasn't for me.

Who's afraid of the big, bad wolf??

This is a Little Red Riding Hood retelling. The focus is on HER. This is a fade to black romance. There is NO smut!

We follow Lillian and her journey to discovering the truths, surrounding her life and future. There is plenty character development and world building. The author pulls you into her world from the start and doesn't lose her grip on you.

I LOVED the first installment of this series. I am looking forward to more!!

Didn’t flow very well and story was too quick in parts I was wondering what was happening I tried to stick it out to see the ending but turned out it’s only a part one. I won’t be going for the next instalment.
While the base of the story is good I love a good red riding hood story I found the characters to be very flat and the world building non existent.

Just all around not very good. No spice, unless you call harassment spicy. There is more focus on the villain than the actual love story. I don’t really feel the love in the book. It’s rushed & the background story just doesn’t make sense. There is lots of mentioning of feeling bile creep up the throat which got really old as a description of disliking something or someone. Lots of unanswered questions that I just don’t think I even want to know the answer to for the following book. Boring & usually when books end on a cliffhanger, they at least have some feeling of completeness, but not with this one in my opinion.

I definitely like the twist on the Red Riding Hood story. This book had a lot of good sections but I feel that there were good chunks that needed more. However after getting to the end I can see why there were missing elements but I did not expect it to end on a cliffhanger like it did. I do wish there would have been more between Beast and Lily rather than focusing on Corbin. But again I think Lily would have made different choices if that were the case.

3.5-4 stars. Did I enjoy the book? Yes. Would I recommend it to others? Open for debate. I need more of the story. I do look forward to the next book.

This is my 1st read from tasha and I have to say this was amazing.it does end on a cliffhanger .
You have Lillian who has been treated so badly by her pack and grew up with her grandmother who lived in the woods til she was 18 then she moved to the village.
You had the beast(Lucian)who is mysterious and has a sad back story, through no fault of his own he is cursed to stay in the woods and stay in wolf form.
I absolutely loved the characters and cannot wait to see certain characters get their comeuppance

When I first read the prologue I didn’t think it was gonna be for me. But I kept with it and the first chapter hooked me. I wasn’t prepared on where the book went but I am happy how it turned out. I ended up reading this book in one sitting and now I’m left on a cliff hanger and needs to know what happens but I can’t find the second book anywhere just the third and fourth book.

Best retelling I ever read. This was a great book. The story, build up, and twist keep the reader coming back for more. I can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens to our main characters.

Beast….where are you??

Nicely written story. Ended with a cliff hanger that I need to see to the end. I’ve grown attached to Beast and I think Lillian is turning into a kick-butt heroine. Can’t wait to see what happens!!!

Definitely a page turner

Poor Lilly has put up with her pack being cruel to her for most of her life. Then things change, suspiciously. No foul language or sex. Left on a cliffhanger. I hate that

Do you ever read something and you're like, "Do I even love myself? Why am I doing this?"
This is one of those books.

There is exactly one good analogy I could make to describe the experience of reading this book. Reading this book is like watching that one girl in your fourth grade class who wants to be on Broadway when she grows up act out a scene and sing a song. (*cough*

It's a little painful to watch because they're overacting and clearly trying too hard, but at the same time they're not bad. You can see that they have potential and a solid foundation for future success, but right now it's a little too much. As such, you can't really take it seriously and spend the whole time giggling under your breath even though they want to be taken seriously.

The reason I say this is because all the characters felt comical. They felt so over the top and dramatic, but in a performative way.

I believe this book was originally published as chapters on Kindle Vella, which to my understanding is like Webtoon where chapters are released weekly and readers can subscribe to the story. That would make a lot of sense for this book, because the characters and story felt inconsistent until around 50%. It felt like the author didn't really know who the characters were until that point, and until then the characters were written to just react to things.

Content warnings for this book are SA and gore. If you read on the Kindle app like me, start making it a habit to go back a few pages before starting a book. If you don't know, Kindle automatically starts you on the first page of the narrative rather than immediately after the copyright info. Therefore I did not see the trigger warning page before getting to those scenes and I was like, "Woah where did this come from?!" But also, I'm confused about who this is marketed to. The reason I read the book is because I saw a review that said it's clean, which it is. But also, (as mentioned before) this is a bloody book with SA scenes (albeit Lillian escapes ). The book repeatedly says "feminine wiles" instead of "the witch tried to seduce him", but has a man forcing a girl to sit on his lap. The book describes Corbin's stereotypical chiseled features and defined abs, but also ignores the awkwardness of all the people shifting back into wolves naked (which includes the grandma btw). I just couldn't figure out what age this book is supposed to be marketed towards.

And we are never told how old Lillian is, but just because of the genre I'm going to assume somewhere between 18-21. Which brings up my next point: I cannot buy the author trying to sell a 200 year age gap. I can't tell if the book is quite supposed to be fated mates or not, but the beast character seemed very possessive of Lillian without reason. Like he spends the whole book like, "mine, mine, no one else can have her, we're destined to be together" yada yada yada. But like since no explanation was given for his possessiveness he just seems like a stalker-y pdf file.

All that being said, the writing wasn't actually that bad. Like I said before, the author seems to have potential,, I just couldn't get past the corniness. I made my notes for this book public because I think that is really just the best way to see what I mean.

Lilian is an outcast in her pack, she always feels like she doesn't belong. She is treated like nothing but a slave to the alpha and his obnoxious son. The only place she feels at ease is at her grandmother's house but when she realizes there is a beast in the woods has a connection with her. When things go from bad to worse Lilian needs to make a choice and choose her destiny break the curse of the beast or save the pack. Will she be able to be strong enough to make the choice .
Ok the characters in this story are well they are well written . Lilian to me is a very submissive woman, sometimes just a little too much. She seems so naive through out the start of this book. When push comes to shove though we really see Lilian grow and become what she is destined to be. Corbin is one of those characters that most of the time you really just want to wring his neck. He comes of as an arrogant man who is just mean to those under him. He does have his nice points but they always come with a price. The bid bad wolf is the one character that you will love from the moment you meet him. He is such a tortured soul and as the story goes we find out more about him and why he is cursed . You truly want to help him and save him through out the story,
This is a retelling of Little Red Riding hood and it is pretty good . The characters are well written and I can't wait to see how they develop. The story has good versus evil but really do we know who the evil actually is. The twists are so much fun to follow and there are a few of them through out the book . Over all I really enjoyed the story but I just felt the beginning of the story was a little slow but it did pick up and then it kind of took off and the twist at the ending was great. Can't wait to read book 2 in the series . So if you want a fun retelling of red riding hood check it out .

I do not normally write any reviews, but I have to say as I got closer to the end of this book, I started pacing my deck as I was reading. Do much that my husband was like, sit down, you are making me nervous. I responded that this book is making me nervous. It's a good book.

I had a blast writing Lillian and her beast's journey and I hope you all will enjoy it. The story develops over time and is a series - so please be advised each book ends on a cliffhanger.

If you love red riding hood, witches, secrets, and a buried past, hang on tight because it is one wild ride and very quick paced.

I love fairy tales that get retold into something fresh and new, so I went into this excited. That died quickly. I realised early on this wasn't going to be my thing, but for some reason, I pushed through because clearly I hate myself. Maybe I was hoping it would somehow turn into something I’d enjoy? It did not. It's weird how having never been on WattPad, I immediately felt like I was reading what is branded as corny WattPad: Red Riding Edition. The writing, the pacing, and every bizarre choice from every character just felt so CORNY. Somehow, I forgot this was a trilogy and not a standalone. When I reached the end and realised there were two more books to be read, I threw the book across the room. I really wish I’d given up earlier.
