Fallout was an amazing suspense read. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down. Destiny Reed is recovering from having been abducted in Africa and has started working for Vanguard. She is carrying a secret that eventually will be revealed. When it comes time, Destiny finds herself stepping up to a temporary leadership position. Jasper Hollingsworth, a police detective, has had a crush on Destiny for a while and his feelings for her grow the more time they spend together. He also has family dynamics. The police and Vanguard are tracking down a dangerous kingpin who is attempting to take over Benson. New characters (the Famous Ones) are introduced. I loved the suspense, the chatter and dynamics of the Famous Ones which had me laughing, and the romance between Jasper and Destiny. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Best to binge read the whole series- this one hadn't come out when I read the previous books, so I felt like I had forgotten a lot of the references and context to the larger plot-line (and this one needed that context more than the other books in the series to date)
Destiny returns from Africa where she was kidnapped. Jasper helps his friend and she eventually shares a secret with him. Destiny shows her strength as Clare has the baby and she is temporarily in charge at Vanguard. Hang on. Suspense and love explodes.
I received an advanced reader copy from the author. Opinions are my own.
Fallout, written by Author Lisa Phillips, caused my heart to thrum with excitement, and expectations of a mysterious book arose. From the very first page, the mystery began to deepen, and of course, the plot thickened. Throughout the past few books, the city of Benson has truly experienced its share of dangerous situations. Yet, due to the caring of the community that they have, lives have been saved. A criminal mastermind determined to control all of Benson, was seriously willing to risk the citizens of this town for his own greed. Detective Jasper Hollingsworth is a former full-time SWAT team member of Benson’s Police Department. However, due to budget constraints, he merged into being a Detective on the Police Force. Jasper will still serve as a part of the SWAT team as needed. Also, he has watched all those around him, at least those who he is closest to, fall in love and take the plunge. A want and a need that has still eluded him. However, he has also managed to observe that his group of friends haven’t just found love, they have found faith. Throughout the book, I was drawn in as Jasper’s “crush” on Destiny morphed into something stronger. I was pulled into the story due to Phillips’ words, as they painted a picture of who each person was and what part of this story they filled. The “crush” that Jasper and Destiny shared before she went to Africa, would face triumphs and hardships if they allowed themselves to continue to fall for one another. However, as they spend more time together in the attempt to stop a madman, the hope that they could just be friends fades away. Actions speak louder than words, and they act as if there is something there. Due to Destiny’s boss, Clare, taking time off to give birth to the baby she and Gage were having, Destiny finds herself in the temporary leadership position at Vanguard. This situation raises Destiny’s hopes for a future and deletes the negativity that she had recently collected. More fear and situations arise, however, the people that are involved really make Jasper and Destiny figure out where they want to end up in the great scheme of things. Violence, in Destiny’s mind, just brings about more violence. However, as events unfold, she begins to see the necessity for the police department and organizations such as Vanguard – and even her protective group, “The Famous Ones”. I was blown away by this story, that was penned by Author Lisa Phillips. Faith will set you free, and it seemed that in every aspect of this book, that reality was beginning to play out in the lives that surrounded Destiny and Jasper. As freedom from the past opened Jasper’s heart, he began to realize that he could let others in and allow others to know him. Just as faith will set you free, I also have realized, again, that the truth will set you free as well. I give this book five out of five stars and can’t wait for more stories from Benson!! Thank you, Lisa Phillips!!
3.5 stars "Jasper had to choose between his parents, his job and Destiny. One choice might lead to happiness. The other was his duty. How on earth was he going to choose?"
Some might assume that Detective Jasper Hollingsworth led a charmed life based on his prominent family and ease of opportunity. Even most of his fellow officers did not know the full story, and up until this point Jasper had been reticent to correct their misconceptions. . . . . but for Destiny. Destiny Reed had a way of making Jasper believe that second chances might be possible.
"Do we have to understand the why of the pain to find the depth of comfort in healing? . . . . you can trust God to bring you through all of this."
" . . . all of this" . . . was proving to be a pretty big test of Destiny's faith. While trying to navigate her feelings for Jasper, her Vanguard Private Security and Investigations team members were being pushed to the limits by a criminal who was determined to destroy everything good about the town of Benson.
While sensational, the plot jumped through multiple hoops at such a rapid pace that it was a little disconcerting. However, on a scale of one to ten, the romantic tension was a solid nine, making this story really fun to read and a solid contribution to the series.
Y'all! These Benson 1st responders books just keep getting better as they go! Fallout is jasper and destiny's story and I was looking forward to diving into this as soon as nightfall was finished .
Destiny is rescued and back from her missions trip in Africa that turned kidnapping, without spoilers, she's been through alot. Her and Jasper both deal with troubles and come out stronger in the end.
Searching for a kingpin set on destroying Benson, I was drawn in for the beginning and it was hard to put it down. You'll love following the story of Jasper and Destiny as well as getting introduced to "the famous ones"
I have been enjoying this series, and loved every book. This one may be the best yet. Jasper and Destiny were awesome, and it was cool to have Jasper come into his own. Throughout the series there has been this idea that he was where he was because of who his dad is.
I won't give any spoilers away, but a lot happened in this book. Non stop suspense and drama. And I won't say which or why, but I was pretty worried about one of the twins for a while.
And above all, Jasper turned out to be a great hero. His response and actions following Destiny's surprise was indeed awesome.
I am really looking forward to Simon's story, coming June 26.
The action, suspense, and heart-stopping episodes are prevalent throughout the book. Although Jasper and Destiny are the hero and heroine, the Famous Ones keep stealing the show. They seem to be able to get things done when no one else can. Destiny first met them when they rescued her after she was kidnapped in Africa. Back home now in the United States, they continue to keep an eye on her. Interestingly, they never take the spotlight. They get the job done and fade into the background. The thread of faith running through the story is strong. I loved the emphasis on family, loyalty to brothers in arms, and seeking to make the city a better place for everyone. An enjoyable read.
Of all the books in this series, this one has been the most intense so far. Trigger warning: one of the characters is a rape victim, but the act took place prior to the beginning of the story and is never described in detail. Themes in this story include overcoming immense trauma, the often asked question "why did God allow this to happen to me?", a mentally ill mother, a child who died from Leukemia... get the tissues ready, this book hits every emotion. But the ending was very satisfying.
Lisa Phillips has the ability to draw you into her books by bringing characters and places together. There is also the criminal aspect which I have read that she can carry through 5 books but also keep each book as a stand alone novel. The story of Jasper Hollingsworth and Destiny Reed is fast paced and full of surprises and twists. Involving terrorists, police and investigative procedures as well as humor, love and spirituality. A great read.

“Fallout” by Lisa Phillips is another thrilling story in the Benson First Responders series. While searching for a deadly kingpin, Destiny Reed and Jasper Hollingsworth have to navigate family dynamics as their pasts and present collide. They fear the secrets they keep could make them lose more than their friends and family, but their chance at a future together as well.

Is a perfect name for this book. Wow it is action packed, from the first page to the very last page. Destiny, is a sweetheart, with a tragedy in her life and how it continues. Destiny and Jasper have been dancing around each other through this whole series. When Destiny is rescued from kidnappers in Africa, she comes back to Benson to work for Vanguard as Claire's administrative assistant. As a detective, she and Jasper work together to bring down the kingpin. this story is fast paced, suspenseful and filled with characters with faith and courage.
This book has a great array of characters from the good to the bad and the struggling in between. The suspense is very entertaining. I enjoyed the romance and the Christian message sprinkled into the story.
This is another great book by Lisa Philips. I have enjoyed each book in the series. Love the fast paced action, the suspense of what is going to happen next, and the thrill of watching the characters learn to trust GOD and each other with their lives.
Lisa, this was an amazing book. I love this series and can't wait to read the next one in this series. You are a wonderful Christian author and love how you weave God in your books.
Another movie worthy book. It’s full of non stop drama and suspense. Jasper never knows what’s going to happen next. With bombs and guns going off everywhere, is anyone safe?
Destiny Reed and Detective Jasper Hollingsworth have a great story full of intrigue and suspense. There are a lot of unexpected twists and turns as their story unfolds. I recommend you read it but start early in the day because you will not want to put it down.
I always find something that stirs my heart, mind, and spirit when I read these books. The characters' struggles ring true. As does their discovery of God caring about the details of their lives.
Great read and series! I love how they work as a team and keep pushing to keep everyone safe and loved. Making everyone family to grow and protect, and how the stories work together.
An absolutely thrilling and exciting story. Although sometimes hard things happen to our favourite people, the love and respect they get from their peers is wonderful. I loved this story of Jasper and Destiny and a fabulous ending of months of terror for everyone.
This one is action-packed and very dramatic. I had been eagerly awaiting Jasper’s and Destiny’s story; it’s got lots of surprises and twists that I’m glad I didn’t miss.
