Scarred Hearts Review
After Bailey tragically loses her best friend she decides to move in with her dad. The town has a college and it's a perfect way to escape the Grove. While on campus she meets Paige. Paige eventually becomes a good friend to her. She also happens to meet the the Porter twins. She becomes close to both Max and Knox over a short period of time. She also quickly falls for Knox. Bailey and Knox both have stories from their past. Will those things cause too many problems for their relationship to grow?
I give this story 4 stars.
This book sucked me in quickly. I found myself not wanting to put it down to go to bed. Since the beginning starts with Bailey so distraught over her friend, it made me instantly feel empathetic for Bailey. I just had to watch over her to see how the rest of her story went. Then I was introduced to Knox. He was instantly put into my top 10 book boyfriends. There are some situations that had me wanting to slap him, but it just made him seem more real. He wasn't this perfect guy that is there to rescue Bailey. He had his own problems, and together him and Bailey find something to soothe their aching hearts. I also love the secondary characters. Although Roger faces out as the story moves along, you can tell that he has played a significant part in Bailey's past. It's like I was a part of their friendship. Yup, this is one of those stories where you just want to become best buds with all the characters. Then there's Paige. She definitely has her quirks, but I was glad to see Bailey find another female friend. I loved to read not only Bailey and Knox's story but Paige and Max's story as well. They were great characters! So, the story had lots of drama going on, but I didn't feel like it was completely outrageous like some of these types of books. I liked the characters, the angst, the issues, and everything overall. The ending had me ready to jump right into the second book to see what was going to happen. This is a MUST read.
We first meet Bailey when she is on her way to her best friend Summer's funeral. Bailey's mother's friends said to her mother that she needs to send Bailey to a therapist. After the funeral she stays at the cemetery with Summer until its dark out. Bailey decides to go to her dad's for the Summer because Grove holds too many memories of Summer. While she is there she is walking around when a tall dark and handsome man starts to talk to her, she gets scared and she runs to the college. She stays to get a tour and she decides that she is going to stay and go to college at BRU to study cyber crimes and forensic computers. She goes to Georges with Paige and she sees not one but two tall dark and handsomes. This is the first book in the Blackrock Series. Bailey is very upset about losing her best friend, she looses herself. After awhile she gets back to the way she used to be before Summer kills herself. Roger is Bailey's and Summer's friend for four years they adopted him when he first came to Grove. Knox works and Georges and has plans with his brother to start a business after they are done at college. He also has things to work through. Bailey's boyfriend. Paige is Bailey's friend, she wasn't very nice during some of the parts of the story. Max is nice and Knox's brother, doesn't want to see his brother hurt again. He is very nice and loyal, works at Georges. Paige's Boyfriend. These characters are very likable. I really loved this story I couldn't put this book down. I liked that you could connect with all the characters. I also liked the plot of the story, how I felt all the emotions that they were feeling. I really enjoyed the author's style of writing. I loved that all the characters had stuff to work through and it wasn't just one person. This is my first book by Elizabeth Kelly and it most definitely will not be my last. I truly am blown away by this book if I could give it more then 5 stars I would. Elizabeth Kelly you are an amazing writer. I can't wait to read more of your books!!
Great debut novel !! I hate that I cannot select 4.5 stars , but here is my 4.5 star review !!
Bailey has been through a horrible experience , losing her best friend and herself in the process. Nothing is the same in her hometown and it is difficult for her to be there with everyone in her face. The people she loves , the people she hates and the people who claim to love her. The only escape is to spend the summer with her dad in Blackrock. Of course this summer trip ends up being a full time going to college and never going home trip !! While roaming the college campus in town Bailey sees a TDH guy more than a few times , we all become intrigued !! Then come to find out he is a twin !! Yay for Knoxx and Max !! Bailey settles into the school year and finds one good friend Paige. The 2 of them become very close to the twins and we have our power couples in the story. All 4 of them have some past baggage and it is preventing growth in their friendships/relationships. Knoxx and Bailey's stories are the worst but they decide to give it a go and work through the issues as they come. A few creepy twists and turns and of course a major twist that will have you yelling at your e-reader make for an emotional ending , not so much a cliffy but definitely an ending you want to have book 2 reading to go right after !!
I love reading about the bar nights out , Knoxx performing , karaoke their drunken escapades !! Max is super funny and I love Knoxx and Bailey's chemistry. There is some pretty HOT sex in here and that is always refreshing !! What I love most is that through all the drama and their mood swings and issues the 4 of them stick together and always try to be there for each other and even when they try to run someone always brings them back !! I look forward to more of this gang , and hopefully some more backstory !!
This book broke my heart right off the bat with Bailey (the heroine) attending her best friend's funeral. I truly felt everyone of Bailey's tears and nightmares as if they were my own. To get away from her not so supportive and for lack of a better word, witchy mother, and a very persistent ex that won't take no for an answer, she decides to go stay the summer with her father. She meets a couple of sexy bartenders who happen to be twins and a girl who becomes her friend and decides to go to college there. She is finally starting to feel something other than grief and is falling in love with Knox. Knox and Bailey are just like a real couple who have ups and downs with some really great chemistry and I instantly fell in love with Knox. And I am really, really loving Max and Paige. They are awesome. Overall, this book had a really great story and great flow to it. I was hooked from page 1 and couldn't wait to start book 2. The absolute only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is because there is so much grammar and misspellings and such. I understand that since I received an ARC that it was not fully edited yet, but there were many sentences I had to read a few times to fully grasp what the author was saying. I do however, think that even with those issues this book is a really great read.
Bailey Mortenson decides to take a change of pace and get away from Grove and all the tragedy that has occurred. She decides to move in with her dad for the summer in Blackrock. Little does she know, Tall Dark & Handsome is right around the corner every time she turns around.
Knox Porter is TDH, guitar player and singer in a local bar, George’s, where he also bartends when he is not playing on stage. Knox’s twin, Max is the first of the two to spot Bailey and tell Knox, I just spotted your future wife. “See something you like Darlin?” is what lured in Bailey to finally approach Knox, and I’m so glad that she did.
The truth to the story of Summer and what happened in Grove will absolutely break your heart. I was crying just reliving what Summer and Bailey went through. Not looking for love when coming to Blackrock, Bailey finds Knox. But will they be able to be together by getting over their scarred hearts from their grief stricken past?
I gave this novel 5 stars. I loved it and it had be intrigued all the way through. I found myself at one point stopping, not sure if I was able to endure what was to come. I’m so glad I sucked it up and finished it out. This book was awesome and I highly recommend it and continuation of the series as well.
This is the first Elizabeth Kelly book i have read and let tell you I am hooked. It is well written and filled with passion, drama and most of all love. Bailey has lost her best friend and in trying to recover decides to leave and live with her father in Blackrock. While there she decides she will begin college and meets her TDH(Tall Dark Handsome) only to realize that TDH is a twin! Knox and Max become part of her life along with a new friend Paige. She begins a relationship with Knox that is showing her how to love and be happy again, but something is always in their way. Struggling with pasts and demons they are try to run from becomes a struggle to stay together. But struggle they do ass the love that they share is strong. Paige and Max have begun their relationship as well, and although they don't have as many obstacles as Knox and Bailey they do have challenges to overcome. I loved this book because the situations felt real and I could relate to them. Both young and in love dealing with issues that are difficult for any adult they face them together and hold dear to each other. I loved it!!! Elizabeth Kelly is now one of my Favorite authors and I can't wait to read the next book in this series!!
Bailey is heart broken and trying to get past the loss of her best friend. She moves 2hrs away with her dad. Starting college. Meets Knox He is a hottie and a Twin him and Max work in their uncles bar. Bailey meets Paige and these 4 hit if off as friend.
Bailey was struck in awe when she meets the Twins Both are gorgeous and both are identical! But Knox was the one she was drawn too! Knox as well was blown away when he met Bailey can these 2 people that have been through so much come together and be the strength each other needs!
This book was awesome I loved the humor, the romance, the friendship and even the hot steamy sexy scenes that was on the pages. It kept you wrapped up in Bailey & Knox's story. Hoping they will be with each other and nothing will tear them apart. But then there is drama and conflict that comes between them. And Even something really bad happens. Which leaves you hanging for the next book! But I would say I loved this book and Can't wait to read the next book!!
Big thanks to Elizabeth for an ARC copy for review.
This was a great debut novel from Elizabeth. It had the perfect blend of sexiness and romance, but it also deals with grief and heartache and learning how to heal. What I enjoyed about the main character Bailey was that she could stand up for herself and her sharp tongue against certain idiots. Of course I can't forget Bailey's friend Paige, she was funny and sarcastic.
The twin brothers, Knox and Max were great, and I loved the sibling banter between the two. Not to mention they were both easy on the eyes. Now with the romance, let me say that the chemistry between Knox and Bailey was certainly sizzling, but I loved watching them fall in love. The ending is left off with a cliffhanger and it leaves you with much anticipation for book two.
Max and Knox are identical twins and both are hot bartenders and singers at their uncle's bar.
Enter Bailey and her friend Paige and the boys don't know what to do.
Bailey and Knox have a relationship that takes them on so many ups and downs and truly tests their love for each other.
Paige and Max and their on and off again relationship also tests it's limits throughout this series.
This cast of four face off against crazed ex-girlfriends, intense stalkers, and several trips to the trauma ward of the hospital.
These books are great reads that will leaving you wondering what will happen to these couples next and if their love for each other will be enough to pull them through.
Scarred Hearts is a story about a young woman named Bailey who is consumed by grief over the suicide of her best friend Summer. Summer and Bailey were best friends who did everything together until tragedy strikes on Summer’s 18th birthday.
Bailey is tortured by her nightmares and decides to go live with her dad a couple hours away. Here she meets the sexy Knox and his twin brother Max.
Bailey and Knox fall in love with each other but are continually haunted by their pasts. Nothing comes to them easily.
This book had the perfect amount of angst, sexiness, and suspense. The book flowed great through each chapter. Even though the book was long, I was never bored and just wanted to keep reading to see what happened. Cannot wait for book 2!
4 Blushing Stars!!!! Great debut novel by author Elizabeth Kelly! This book keeps you turning the pages, or rather flicking the pages. I enjoyed the authors writing style. The characters were funny, sexy, angsty, and full of drama. The story keeps you wanting more. I look forward to reading more from this author!
I really love the story.. I couldn't stop reading it. My only issue was all the errors in it. I would love to proof read any books for errors before they went to print.....lol
From the beginning of this book you immediately feel for Bailey. She has just lost her best friend, her sister, in one of the most tragic ways you can lose a person.
After everything, Bailey decides it would be best to go and stay with her dad and starts college there, and hopefully begin to heal.
I really liked Bailey's character. I feel like she was portrayed very realistically considering what she has been through, and she reacted in a way one would expect throughout the book, so I felt like the author really did a great job there. The twins were awesome too, they had their own, individual personalities and they seemed to really help Bailey come out of her shell. Them, along with Paige(haha), made Bailey start to, well not get over, but come to terms with Summer's death.
I will say, I did notice a few small errors in the book, but nothing that took away from the story. Which is, I must say, an awesome one. I feel it's only fair to warn y'all that this book has a major cliffhanger ending, but it's totally worth it. Now I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
Overall, if you love a good contemporary story this is definitely a book you want to check out!
First off... if this book had been set in the UK my following points would have been null and my only criticism would be the need for a bit of editing.
That being said clearly the author is from outside the US and did not do any research before writing this book. The biggest flaw is that the author is apparently unaware that the legal drinking age in the US is 21. That means if you are under 21 you cannot buy alcohol, enter a bar, or work in a bar. No 19 year old in the US can legally do anything that this book revolves around. Also there were several tell tale signs that the author is from the UK and not the US such as saying like being "miles away" when what we would say is being "spaced out" or something. Also, Americans don't order curries. Most Americans have pathetic tolerance when it comes to spice. Most bar goers here go for fried things, buffalo wings, pizza, burgers, or the like. Sad but true. While there were issues with believability due to age issues I really did enjoy this book and will read the next one. Recommend!
