They got married for the greater good. Neither expected to fall in love...
Dashing and illustrious Mack Duncan thought he was a shoo-in for mayor in the Silver Plum election—until ghosts from his past are dredged up. As his poll numbers sink, his family suggests drastically unorthodox methods to shift odds back in his favor. A marriage of convenience to a beautiful schoolteacher seems like a ludicrous idea. One so crazy it just might work...
Cady Marshall is appalled the Duncan family would suggest she enter into a marriage just to help secure Mack’s political victory. Yet, that publicity stunt wedding may be the only chance her ailing mother has to see one of her children walk down the aisle. Holding onto Mack’s promise to protect the town’s water supply if elected, Cady reluctantly agrees.
As Cady and Mack’s marriage wins voters over, they find the line between real and faked emotions begin to blur. Will the growing feelings between them end when Mack takes office? Or can true love begin with an arrangement of convenience?
Deb Goodman’s obsession with the written word started at age three, when she realized the old-timey newsprint wallpaper in her family’s bathroom had actual words on it. The only problem? By the time she learned to read a couple of years later, the wallpaper had been replaced with something else—boring, non-worded wallpaper—and to this day, she still doesn’t know what it said.
Now, she and her husband and four children live in Utah. They love sports, music, and doing slightly insulting, pretend voices for their little shorkie, Mavis.
Deb writes funny, small-town romance that you won’t need to shield your kids’ eyes from. Billionaires, friends-to-more, enemies-to-more, cowboys, fake relationships…there’s something for everyone here!
Writing lovey dovey books comes naturally to Deb since, to her, there’s nothing better than reading and writing about how two people fall in love.
I’m uncomfortable going against the trend of my fellow reviewers, but I believe that I am honor-bound to call it the way I see it. I agree with most reviewers who found that this offering by Deb Goodman meets the standards of a clean romance. Nevertheless, I was disappointed that Ms. Goodman frequently failed to properly introduce new characters as they appear in the story. She also frequently and awkwardly uses abbreviated terms to identify people and places without clearly stating what the abbreviated terms mean. It wasn’t hard to determine that SP meant Silver Plum, the name of the town. But at no point did she ever clearly identify the meaning of KNO, which evidently identifies a group of High School friends. The believability factor of the premise that a marriage between Mack and Cady would help Mack win an election was a big stretch. Rather than losing track of time as I read, I found myself rather bored and was even tempted to abort reading about halfway through.
The book focused more on the politics than the romance. It wasn't what I was looking for exactly. Others might like it, it just wasn't the right book for me.
Living A Different Dream - Mack and Cady agreed to a temporary marriage that benefitted them in different ways, but they soon realised that there was nothing temporary between them. However, even though they both wanted to change the initial temporary agreement, their stubbornness made it difficult for them to communicate what they were feeling. It would take a major event that affected Mack, for them to finally acknowledge what their hearts already knew.
I absolutely loved reading this book from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down even to cook dinner. I have read a lot of books from Deb Goodman and I can truly say her books are amazing and addictive. I definitely recommend reading this book.
I received a copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mack and Cady’s marriage of convenience is two folded. One it was to help Mack look more grounded for the upcoming mayoral election, for Cody it was to help her mum and to help her get degree.
Love was not part of the plan, nope, not at all.
But spending time together only helps them fall more in love with each, which is blurring the lines they marked in the sand. Will life and dreams get in the way of a love they weren’t expecting or will they give it a shot.
There are other things a foot in the race for mayor, which you won’t see coming. Made for great reading.
All the characters were well written and determined people, even the side characters which gave the story lots of depth and made me want to know what made some of them tick.
I very much enjoyed this story. It’s the first where the main character is a special education teacher and I love that (I too teach sped). And while it was a marriage of convenience, it wasn’t an easy marriage. That would be the only reason I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars - there was just a lot of miscommunication. But at the same time, I feel that it was more realistic that way. This book was also perfect for this year. With it being about a mayoral candidate and it being an election year.
Even as Cady and Mack enter a marriage of convenience, they each fight the spark of interest in the other. It's a business deal, nothing more.
Well, Mack soon hopes for more, but Cady fears having to give up her dreams for his. So she shores up her reserves. Attacks against Mack's family are the final push to her decision... But what does she decide?
Love By Convenience is a sweet, heartwarming, marriage of convenience romance with a few twists. I loved every minute of reading it and hated to see it end. Mack and Cady both have their reasons for this marriage of convenience. I love how this story plays out. I cannot say why I liked it so much (spoilers, you know) but I highly recommend this well written, entertaining, faith filled romance.
Good clean story, but kinda lost on some characters backgrounds who’s who, not sure if I would understand more with reading beginning series. Parker had a rough beginning with The Cunningham’s rooster, stitches n all. Getting to know Candy n Mack with personal past struggles n how they have effect in their present tense, sure made life interesting in more ways than 1.
Cady and Mack agree to the scheme of a marriage of convenience in hopes it will help them both but life happens and it doesn't quite work out the way they hoped. I enjoyed this small town romance, the characters are entertaining and Cady and Mack are such kind, thoughtful people you really want things to work out for them.
Really enjoyed reading about Cady and Mack as they get acquainted. He is running for Mayor. She is a teacher. Can they learn to love each other having married to get him elected? Recommend you read to find out.
Never underestimate.ate the power of love and kindness
I wouldn't necessarily go to those lengths for kindness but I was thrilled that Mack and Candy realized their priorities. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading A mall's story as well.
We follow the story of Mac and Cady, one of my favourite couple in this series. To help each other to realize their dreams they are ready to go to the extremes, you will follow them with lots of laughs and cries but always keeping their eye on their prize. Really enjoy the series of Sugar Plum.
I really enjoyed this sweet story. It is a fake marriage that turns real. I liked the relationship between Cady and Mac, they had such great chemistry and the love between them was amazing.
This is a cute, enjoyable book that's written in a way that one can understand the outlooks and feelings of the characters. It's clean and wholesome with a bit of faith. Good book!
Always love a good clean romance by this amazing author! Instead of fake dating, this book had a fake marriage in order to help Mack get elected as the towns mayor. He’s got his work cut out for him with two brothers with a not so great reputation and running against someone who has been in the job for quite awhile. Cady is determined to be his wife to help him win the election, but that she’s going to leave in a year for her dream of attending Brown University for her masters degree in special education. However, this fake marriage alters both of their plans 💟
I loved this book. It's such a sweet love story with deep characters that have problems and issues that I could relate to. The silver plum series is one of my favorites and each book keeps getting better!
