The story follows an astronaut and his canine companion as they drive an old pickup through Rocket Town, passing all manner of space craft like a taxi rocket, a police rocket, a school bus rocket, and even a rocket that looks like a shark. Each colorful spread is bursting with an eye-dazzling array of rockets from big to small, fast to slow, practical to extremely silly. Our intrepid astronaut and his dog then get into their favorite rocket (a pickup truck-shaped rocket of course!), and the final count down and blast off is sure to thrill young readers. Ok so I don't usually review the books I read to my son, but this one is awesome!! I consider it a sci fi primer for my son's future imaginative pursuits. The illustrations are just plain dope.
Yay an arty retro rocket board book! Minimal on story but this is going to be a fun signing book for opposites... Big, little, up, down, fast, slow and countdown from 10-1 before the Blastoff!
At 18 months this is one of H's favorite books. He will ask for the "kkkkk" (sound of a rocket) with the ASL sign almost nightly or yank it off the shelf and demand it to be read. The illustrations are bold and wonderful. Oh and he LOVES the dog and the Sticky Onion rocket! Which he will sign "Stinky" and say "Ewwwww" to. :)
This is a cute book for young toddlers who love rockets and pick up trucks. It's also a good book for discussing opposities with young children because it shows a variety of different rockets - big and small, fast and slow, up and down... etc... There's not much text, and the illustrations are delightfully silly.
This book is good for me, I can read it. but that is a little hard for some people. it has a little word is very hard, I can't understand a little picture that I see.
It was rocket cool, rocket awesome! I liked that it was all about rockets. Fast rockets, slow rockets, and even rockets that are big or small. I loved the pictures!
Illustrations are cool retro / 1950s scifi art style. I think they'll be enjoyed more by adults than kids. But the story ends with a countdown and blastoff. So ... it's a guaranteed success!
The pictures are pretty, but the age range who is most apt to enjoy it (preschoolers) are the ones who need a standard and identifiable font used throughout the most in order to help them with letter recognition. My son enjoys looking at it, but gets frustrated when the words are hidden like scrollwork. I don't personally mind it, but I'm accustomed to looking for words in all sorts of unexpected places. There were also a lot of comparison opportunities which Mr. Logan skipped over, and I don't really understand why, when he takes a little time with them on some pages. It was okay. If your kid is into space ships, retro cars, and space trucks, then they'll enjoy it, but get it at the library.
I have to always have in some books as reading is so important to me. And the Grandbabes both love stories. My Grandson will love the cardboard book 'Rocket Town'. It is perfect with rockets, trucks and trains while they are traveling in an old pickup. Bright colors that help the countdown to blastoff. This was done by Bob Logan who worked on Madagascar, Open Season and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs too!
A man and his dog drive to Rocket Town, enjoy exploring the town, and then set off on their very own space adventure. What I really like is that the illustrations feature the dog as the main character, journeying through this city of rockets, and it's the dog that made my daughter love this book and want to read it again and again. It's a very creative book, both in regards to the text and the visuals.
This board book is fabulous. The illustrations are stunning and you can find so much on each page, yet they are not distracting and too "busy". All of my kiddos, ranging from almost two to five, really like it . I think all of them would say their favorite part is the countdown to BLASTOFF! This book is geared towards the younger set with the high quality boardbook pages and large print, but has enough to keep the preK set happy.
My son loved it- and the illustrations are fantastic. My husband loved them as much as my little guy did. Simple story, and the drawings are amazing and will capture you. Great for small kids (and their daddies!)
This book is very nicely done. I like that It’s a board book, so it’s very sturdy. The artwork its wonderful, kind of a retro feel. I love how the last rocket is the old truck. This is a great book for boys!
LOVED this one - the illustrations are awesome. I love that retro stuff. After living in Huntsville, AL for five years (Rocket City), it brought back nice memories of that kind of world. :)
This book is a picture book that is for the younger age group, ages three to four. It's the way that I like my books, simple and to the point which makes things easier when presenting it to young children. It a man and his dog traveling through a town and it goes over the basics that every child in preschool or pre-kindergarten should know. The pictures are amazing, and the colors are bright and detailed. This is something that will grab the attention of anyone child you are reading it too. Its simple enough for the kids to understand yet educational enough for them to learn without knowing it. This is a book that can stay on the bookshelf and be revisited frequently because of the colors, the pictures, and most kids like animals so they will love to see the pictures of the dogs. This will be very good for the slow learners who need help with their numbers. You could actually use this book daily with you reading it to them the first week, pointing and having them take the lead the second week, and by the third week, they should be ready to move on.
