Rose City Roasters #1

Hit It and Quit It

Rate this book
Bull Durham meets Ted Lasso (with a hint of the Savannah Bananas) in this opposites attract, baseball romcom set in smalltown Oregon.

Three weeks ago, department store heiress and Southern society darling, Clarke Myers had it all, or so she thought. She followed the rules laid out by her mama, she bit her tongue unless explicitly asked for her opinion, and she never ever used foul language… except in her private thoughts. It isn’t until after her botched bachelorette party, that Clarke decides that it's time to start living for herself. Nothing says “fresh start” quite like moving into a vintage trailer resort in the Pacific Northwest, and working for the MLB’s newest team. Between learning the ropes of her new position and dodging calls from her family, the last thing she’s looking for is a new relationship. But a fling with the baseball player next door might be okay, right?

Soren "Sin" Sinclair might be one hell of a ball player, but all anybody seems to care about is the bad reputation that follows him from team to team. Random bar fights, disagreements with coaching staff, leaked d*ck pics—they call him “Sin” for a reason. He's determined to make the most of his time with the Rose City Roasters and that means no distractions. That is until he meets the blonde bombshell he’s working with—and living next door to—who also wants his help checking off every item on her naughty to-do list. Suddenly, a distraction doesn’t sound so bad after all... so long as they cut ties when the season starts.

But getting each other out of their systems might be easier said than done. After all, there's nothing more appealing to a good girl than the bad boy next door.

Hit it and Quit it is the first book in the Rose City Roasters baseball series. This opposites attract romance between a mid-size, southern belle on a quest for her sexual awakening, and a grouchy, grizzled baseball player, features a sexy bucket list (or f*ck it list), lattes as a love language, an almost entirely LGBTQIA+ supporting cast of characters, a girl gang that plays Dungeons and Dragons, and lots of outdoor showers.

Full RTC but this had such amazing positive and supportive friendships - male, female, and mixed genders. Also great LGBTQ+ representation with side characters. The H and h each had some growing to do, in different ways. However each was challenging themselves and overcoming who they’d allowed themselves to be perceived in the past. The H’s a baseball player getting another shot at the major league and the h has her first real job as she ventures out on her own, a job that’s also for the baseball team. A sort of coworker situation develops and these two are also neighbors. This also has a sexual awakening of sorts with a friends with benefits relationship and a sex list. A lot of steam (with a lot of horniness to start).

I did have some hangups that niggled at my brain and wouldn’t let go, including the not so meet cute (for me), the focus on the physical side of their relationship, the lack of communication over what they wanted, which led into the final conflict, which frustrated me. Some other elements had me side eyeing but I’ll probably try book 2 still because there was a lot to like here and the setup for side characters to find their HEAs is intriguing. This book does end in a HFN and I assume these characters will feature heavily in the rest of the series.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and neither were virgins (H much more experienced than h but he had been celibate for months, though his reputation was very negative).

Clarke Myers is a southern belle who has let her parents dictate her entire life. That is until she finds out (at her bachelorette party) her fiancé cheated on her. She upends her life in search of a new beginning and lands as the social media manager of newest MLB team, the Rose City Roasters. Soren Sinclair has one hell of a reputation in the baseball world but is hoping for a fresh start with his new team. When Clarke and Soren come to an agreement, a fling until the season starts, neither of them are prepared for what they find in each other.

This was my first baseball romance, but it won’t be my last. About halfway through this book, I started looking up the schedule of the pro team in my town and texted my friends to let them know we had plans this summer 😂 Getting to see Clarke shed the expectations of her family and come into her own really hit home for me. As a chronic people pleaser, I struggle with approval (especially with people that I love) and it was nice to see in someone else. When it comes to Clarke and Soren, the banter could not be any better! I’ll never look at a backwards hat the same way again. The way Kelly writes her side characters keeps me invested and excited for the rest of this series. Someone else said they want to live in a world written by Kelly Reynolds and I agree!

ARC REVIEW (thanks Kelly!)

Ehh I’m not gonna rate this because I really didn’t care for it. I was a trooper and didn’t dnf but if it wasn’t an arc I probably would have.

I get that it’s the first book in a series with a literal baseball team involved but I can’t with a million background characters. Book was just too insta lust/love for me and lacked substance. I’ve enjoyed Kelly’s novellas and I’m sad this one didn’t work for me.

I just finished this last night! I got an ARC copy and I'm proud to say it was my first! 🥇(Advance Reader Copy if you don't know). It was an awesome sports romance with a lot of diversity, plenty of spice and enjoyable friendships and side characters that I found so relatable as a millennial. I think it's my first book with a plus sized FMC and I also loved that. I also love that the end was left a little open to the imagination. I give it 5⭐

Should I already be saying this is one of my favorite series? Maybe not, but I also don’t care- because it is. I loved everything about this book. Soren & Clarke - obviously as it was about them, but it also was about so much more. The friends, family, diversity and topics within the book pulled at all my heart strings too. It honestly really made me fall in love with each character and not just Soren & Clarke. Soren & Clarke were both captivating in their own ways; the tension between them and their banter and spice was top tier. I found myself laugh out loud so many times with them. What started off as new starts for both of them turned into something much more than I think they even thought of. We also got to see more of the social media side of things with baseball and events as well as game play and locker room talk. This was all around just such a feel good read for me.

I love Kelly's novellas, so I was super excited about this and grateful to receive an ARC, but unfortunately, I wasn't enjoying it and DNFed around 60%. I struggled with a couple of plot points-the fmc's lack of job experience, yet amazingly, she lands a great job. The mmc had some baggage from his last relationship that still was not addressed. Side characters I was mixing up. Instalust, which just seemed odd given both of these characters' circumstances. Anyway, even though I wasn't loving this one, I will always try Kelly's books because I do think she writes really well and brings so much to the romance community with her inclusivity and representation.

This was such a fun romance (and I’m not usually into sports romcoms). Being an Oregonian made this even more fun and I am definitely glad I picked this up at B&N. I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in the series.

A Good Girl Southern Belle meet Bad Boy Baseball Player in a small town where one finds and the other accepts themselves in this fling to lovers romcom…. Who will fall first the plus size pageant beauty or the steamy misunderstood bad boy?

LOVED this book so much!! It was an amazing read for my first sports related romcom and it will not be my last. It was great reading the POVs of Clarke the plush size Souther Belle Beauty and Soren the Bad Boy Baseball player and to read how they helped each other grow into better characters. Oh my the way the characters interacted was amazing! I felt all the emotions reading this… I caught my self laughing out loud a lot and making these oh my gosh faces in a good way thru out this book….. and there is some spicy scenes. The rep in this story was so good, also loved the other characters as well and I liked that we got to meet them and really hope to read more about gen in her next book in the series. Loved that the new besties played D&D cuz I did too with my cousins and that one owes a bookshop, which is my dream. Kelly Reynolds you killed it with this book and I’m excited and patiently waiting for the next one.

Me: I don't know about romance books. The gratuitous spicy stuff always makes me laugh.

Also me: reads this in less than 24 hours.

This was a cute, quick read, just in time for the beginning of baseball season. I could have done without all the "ownership" language, but I think that was sort of the author's point. She was very self referential with calling out romance tropes within the book as well. Great representation in the cast of supporting characters, and I'm definitely interested in reading the next book in the series, especially because I really liked both of the characters that take the leading roles in that one.

Thanks to the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Content Warnings from the Author

I will be completely honest. I was very hesitant on reading this because I was not the biggest fan of Kelly's novellas. But I kept an open mind and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK! And I am so bummed I have to wait now for the next book in the series.

"And Clarke, it better be my name you're screaming."

I just love the chemistry between Clarke and Soren. He was so head over heels for her and just wanted to do everything to please her. I know some people don't like the insta love but I loved it in this. Their banter and how we saw them grow as a couple in the bedroom and outside of the bedroom. There was a moment where he catches the ball in her lap during a game - SWOOOON. And I know that moment will live rent free in my mind. I just love how they both were so in tune with one another and knew when they needed that extra care. Even during a time when they were at odds, he noticed something was wrong and immediately went over to her calling her "baby" - SWOOOON

I will be thinking about this couple for some time and I know when I read the other books I will be looking forward to catching up with them. OH and there is a grand gesture that will just melt your heart.

Kelly did such a great job with the different stores & teams and I often wish they were real. Like who wouldn't want to go to a romance bookstore called Smutty Buddies.

I love all the side characters and I am so excited to see where the characters go book to book. Pink's personality really shown through in this and it is going to make for a fun second book!

If you are looking for a quick baseball romance with lots of spice that takes place in the PNW - give this a read!

PS - Love the shout out to the Lawrence band who I got to see when they opened for the Jonas Brothers last year!

A baseball romance that delivers on spice and feelings.

Clarke has been cheated on by her fiancée, and takes it as a sign to finally move away from her overbearing parents and the town she's always lived in. She moves to a small town with a new baseball franchise team to take on a role working their social media. Meanwhile Soren is hoping for the chance to reset with a new team and focus on his career, following yet another media scandal. Just a shame his cute new neighbour is also a new colleague...

These two have instant chemistry, right from the hilarious and (literally) steamy first time they meet. And that chemistry grows as the story progresses and they get to know each other more. I loved how their feelings built over time as they got to know each other more.

The supporting cast of characters are great - it's definitely setting up to be a fun series with the rest of the team. Any decent team sports romance will always have an element of found family amongst the players, but I adored Clarke's found family as she got the confidence to make new friends that she could be herself with.

Clarke's journey to find herself was great to read. Starting out as someone who was only known for being the daughter of rich people, and growing to a place of having work, hobbies, friends and love. And swear words. Can't forget the freedom of swearing!

There is a lot of secondary queer rep in this story, and it was included very naturally. Soren's nibling, like the rest of his family, is amazing.

I'll admit that I had been expecting more full-on spice scenes, but that's very much my expectations rather than a fault with the book. There was a wide variety of steaminess happening, but also quite a few times where it was just the build up, or references to things having happened.

Also it's possible I'd have got more out of this book if I liked coffee...

All in all I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys sports romances - particularly if you're looking for a change from all the hockey ones!

Thank you to the author for the free review copy. All thoughts are my own.

For BookTok the it thing to read is Hockey Romance. Don’t get me wrong I have been reading my fair share of Hockey Romance, but I have to say it was refreshing to have Kelly Reynolds come out with ‘Hit it and Quit it’ a Baseball Romance book. Spoiler alert I wasn’t even done with the book and I was making sure all of my friends knew how much I was enjoying this book and making sure they started to read the book.

In ‘Hit it and Quit it’ there was a broad range of characters that helped build the story. They also had different backgrounds and were not all the same. It was great seeing a book that had something for everyone. And you couldn’t help but also fall in love with the main characters, Clarke and Soren.

Clarke and Soren come from an extremely complicated past but that is how they were able to be the people they are. What I like about these two is they knew getting over that part would not be easy and at the end and at the same time they knew they were right for each other until the end of time. It was great seeing them know that and start to come up with a plan to win each other back.

Yes, ‘Hit it and Quit it’ is a Baseball romance and takes place during spring training and the season. But I have to say if you don’t know much about the game that is okay. This takes place more behind the scenes and anything that is talking about the game Kelly does a wonderful job telling the reader about it, so they are not lost.

The story that Kelly put together for ‘Hit it and Quit it’ is so well done I am giving this book 4 ½ stars. Trust me when I say once you pick it up you will not want to put it down or the story to end as you will be so invested. Also, make sure you have a way to cool down because the spice level is a sold 4!

If you are a fan of Tessa Bailey this book is for you. 'Hit it and Quit it' is a delightful story and spice that makes Kelly Reynolds the next Tessa Bailey with her writing in my book. ‘Hit it and Quit it’ was just released and is available wherever you get your books and if you are a Kindle Unlimited member you will be pleased to know that this book is part of your membership.

Hit It and Quit It by Kelly Reynolds
“Forget Mary. There’s something about Clarke. Some effortless, hypnotic air about her that never failed to make somebody’s day a little brighter. Or the world a little better.”

Synopsis: When Southern society princess Clarke Myers ditches her privileged past for a fresh start in small-town Oregon, the last thing she expects is a no-strings fling with bad-boy baseball star Soren “Sin” Sinclair. He’s got a reputation to fix, she’s got a naughty bucket list to complete, and their deal is simple—no feelings, no future. But when their chemistry proves impossible to ignore, they’ll have to decide if quitting is even an option.

Thank you so much to the author of this book for reaching out to me pre-Sports Romance Con and our convo inspiring me start her Baseball Romance series. I already know this is one I’ll be following going forward after devouring the first book in the series!

I absolutely love a baseball romance. They reminds me of summertime, sunshine, and hot boys in tight pants. What’s not to love? But HI&QI took my love for another level with AMAZING team banter, HOT spicy scenes, and female characters to love and root for. And that doesn’t stop at Clarke - all of her friends in Rose City were girls I want to be besties with.

Somehow it felt like this book was written for me specifically with references to some of my favorite things like Showtunes, RPDR, romantic bookstores, and kitschy living spaces. I also simply adored how Clarkes natural warmth and authenticity melted the heart of a broken man Soren and made him whole again.

I absolutely savored and loved this lovely slice of baseball romance! Thank you so much to Kelly Reynolds for bringing me a little summer in the cold months and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.❤️🛁✨📚⚾️

I couldn’t put it down

Hit it and Quit it by Kelly Reynolds

Clarke’s ex-fiancé, friends and parents are ass holes. Her sister and sister in law are perfect. She’s in desperate need of a fresh start that’s all her own and that fresh start is located in none of that Rose City working for the Rose City Roasters. Soren is also in need of a fresh start with her career and his image and the Roasters is just the team for him. The second these two run into each other it’s honestly game over but how long will it take for them to accept they are perfect for each other?

This book had me laughing and smiling from the first page to the last page. As a plus-size girly myself I love having plus-size and mid-size love stories represented in books. The bravery and confidence that Clarke gained throughout this book was contagious. Her and Soren brought out the absolute best in each other and everyone around them could tell from the second they met. The found family with Clarkes new friends and Soren’s teammates was perfection and I want them all to find love, happiness, and amazing sex. The smut was perfect so seamlessly done. I seriously loved this book I could get enough.

Kelly always knocks it out of the park!! (I’m morally against puns but this time pun intended!!) I love a sports romance so much, and this is the best kind of one! Clarke and Soren were SO GOOD. The workplace romance, fling to lovers, and a sexy to do list! This was the perfect introduction to this new world that Kelly has created and I loved it so much!

Clarke is a girl after my own heart! I loved seeing her finally break free of her family expectations and live a life that actually made her happy! Her finding herself was done so well!! I loved that’s was able to stick up for herself, even if she didn’t speak her mind perfectly she tried and I loved that for her! I loved her and her sister’s relationship!

And SOREN! I love a SOFTIE who is dressed up in a bad boy costume! I LOVED Soren so much. The way he loved his family, and how hard he’s worked to get where he is in his career was written so well! And the way he LOVED CLARKE! They both fell so hard so fast, but the way he was able to recognize it so quickly?? Perfect.

The two of them together were SO GOOD!! We aren’t gonna tell anyone but also sort of everyone knows anyone because we can’t keep our hands off each other??? And how soft they were with each other?? They both took turns taking care of the other when they needed it the most and it was so SWEET. And the SPICE! Watching Clarke reclaim that part of herself as well, top tier!

I cannot wait for the rest of the series! I LOVE this cast of characters! This little baseball family makes me so happy!!

If I could give this book infinite stars, I would! Soren and Clarke absolutely stole my heart from chapter one. As a fellow southern girl, having a southern FMC to fall in love with was perfect.

Clarke is so used to being the quiet, people-pleasing good girl. After her life goes up in flames, she decides to move across the country for a new job and environment. While I expected her to come out of her shell and into her true personality, I wasn’t expecting how much I’d love her. She’s witty, sassy, caring and so adorable. Just the ideal FMC 🤭

SOREN. WHAT A MAN. Instant attraction to the bad boy baseball player 🫶 He puts on a tough front to hide his softness, but he gives in to his vulnerable side with Clarke and the team. When he decides to go after her, he goes full force and is determined to keep her. Can’t forget to mention the mouth on him 😮‍💨

Together, this pair is straight fire. From the minute they meet in the communal shower (which had me cackling), there’s no doubt they’re going to ruin each other in the best way. They bring out the other’s best side and push them out of their comfort zones. Even when things get hard, they realize there’s no one else they’d rather face it with.

The rest of the team is full of great characters, and I’m already so excited for Pink’s story coming in a few months! If I could book a trip, you can bet Rose City would be on my list!!! Happy baseball pants season indeed ⭐️😏

Thanks so much to Kelly for my ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!

CW: cheating (not between MCs), toxic familial relationships, ableism (off page, not main storyline), graphic sexual content

🌟 Sports Romance (Baseball)
🌟 Fling to Friends to Lovers
🌟 Opposites Attract
🌟 Workplace Romance

🌈 Fat heroine

🌶 A smidge of exhibitionism

Kelly knocks it out the park yet again (pardon the obnoxious pun 😫).

Hit It and Quit It gave exactly what I expected it to. A healthy dose of body positivity along with a sweet yet spicy romance that had me swooning.

Clarke, our FMC is such a bold woman, breaking free of her parents hold and cheating ex, she makes her own way out into the world and just smashes it. Reserved and held back by her past life experiences, we get to see her really blossom and become stronger, while developing the ability to make her own decisions and be her own person.

Soren, our MMC is misunderstood to a degree. Perceived to be nothing but a fxckboy, his reputation is ruined by the media. Underneath everything he's a precious soul who genuinely just adores Clarke 🥺

I was so grateful that during the conflict, neither character did anything abhorrent where we were left struggling to forgive anyone. So it was angsty without becoming frustrating.

Reflecting back on the subject of body positivity, my favourite thing about KRs heroines is the fact that they're just fat. Fat, happy, and existing. It's not integral necessarily to their trauma and feelings, it's not a barrier between the MCs, it's just existing as a plus sized person and falling in love. It's so refreshing to see 🥰

Enemies to lovers. A “to do” list (you know the DOING kind). Reformed playboy. Baseball romance. WHAT MORE COULD I ASK FOR?

Sometimes, a book needs a few pages to set up. Not this book. We hit the ground running and I am immediately sucked in by page one.

I like Clarke. But I LOVE Soren. I know this by the end of chapter two. Actually, by the end of the first quarter of the book, I haven’t met a single character that I’m neutral on. I love them all, especially Nessa the sexy woman who owns a smut bookstore (I wish that was me).

One of my all time favorite micro tropes is characters of a romance novel discussing romance novels (or their tropes) so I was HERE for the scene with Nessa showing Clarke all the tropes in the bookstore.

This book was great. I loved the characters. I loved the settings. I loved the love story. Literally the only thing I wanted was more spice scenes. Don’t get me wrong, this is not closed door but the spicy scene sometimes felt short or would be breezed by (like a “and then we did” then end scene). The book was so detailed in their conversations and the tension building etc that I wanted the same detail in the spicy scenes. I know everyone’s spice level is different so I’m chalking this one up as a personal preference only.

I thought I’d like this book but I loved it very much. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series!

A book that combines my love of America's favorite past time and liquid gold, baseball and coffee, sign me up!

Soren "Sin" Sinclair(MMC): aging baseball player, media hounded bad boy, great captain (even though he doesn't think so), grouchy but loves his family, nicknamed Sin but don't call him that, enjoys communal showers 😉

Clarke Myers (FMC): plus-sized Southern belle, looking for a fresh start in a new state/town, inexperienced in love, friendship and life, adores upside-down, quad-shot caramel macchiatos, never used a communal shower before Sin

What you can expect:
⚾️ Baseball romance
☕️ Neighbors to Fling to Lovers
⚾️ Diverse LGBTQIA+ Cast
☕️ Sex bucket (aka Fûck it) list
⚾️ Small Town in the Pacific northwest
☕️ Nerdy girl gang who plays D&D
⚾️ Ted Lasso meets Bull Durham (a book that feels like a warm cup of coffee with friends🥰)
☕️ Coworkers on and off the field 😉
⚾️ Bad boy/Good girl
☕️ Text convos
⚾️ Team shenanigans

Rating: ☕️☕️☕️☕️(4⭐️)
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️(dirty talk, praise, spanking, 👅, edging, 🍑, public play, hand necklaces)
T/W: Alcohol consumption (on page), fatphobia (on page, not by MCs), homophobia (referenced, not by MCs), ableism (referenced), generational trauma (in past), death of a grandparent (in past), parent abandonment (on page)

This is a fun filled, delightful sports romance story filled with witty banter, high spice, and so much heart.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I LOVE this cast of characters. In the words of Kelly: Happy baseball (pants) season.⚾️

Anyone know when Roasters season tickets go on sale?

Starting fresh in small town Rose City, new neighbors, Clarke & Soren have chemistry right off the bat (seriously their meet cute is everything)! She’s trying to navigate her life after it imploded & he’s determined to make his final shot at the major leagues work while keeping his “bad boy” image at bay. Can they stay away from each other for long when their feelings are outta the park?

Clarke & Soren are an absolute DREAM couple & work so well together. They are playful, have such fun banter, while keeping a sweetness that made me swoon like crazy. Of course, the spice is unmatched! Soren Sinclair is forever book boyfriend material! I LOVED the emphasis on what certain characters want throughout this novel. Whether it’s in their family life or in the bedroom, it’s so important to vocalize those things & I appreciate that being a forefront in this story.

The rest of the Roasters & the people of Rose City are such a fun time. The focus on female friendship was so special & I adored seeing Clarke joining her own girl gang. I loved the camaraderie between all the Roasters & especially adored Jared Pink (such a little puppy dog). Reynolds has always been really great at delving into friendships in her stories & this is no exception! This town/these characters are so special & I’m already dying for the next one in the series!

“People are made to be loved, so if you find somebody that makes life a little bit easier and that you don't mind waking up next to every morning, they might be worth the fight."
As an avid baseball fan, I am always drawn to baseball romances and Hit It and Quit It was everything! The Roasters are a team I am very much looking forward to more.

Soren is attempting his second shot at the majors with a new expansion team in Rose City, Oregon on the Roasters. His career hasn’t been the cleanest, with a well known nickname of Sin but he is dedicated to turning that around now. Just can’t have any distractions.

Clarke has just escaped a fraud of a marriage and a life that was dictated but her parents. She has moved from South Carolina to Oregon for a new life of her own making and is determined to be Clarke and not somebody’s somebody.

When Soren and Clarke meet there is instant tension, they met in a shower after all. It took them a bit to give into the tension and once they did it was adorable. Their personal growth was amazing to watch. They became people they always wanted to be and with that became a perfect pair for each other. They were a great start to what I hope is a long series!

A spicy baseball romance is exactly what you need to read this summer! Clarke is a southern belle who has never had to do things on her own, including getting engaged. Sadly, she finds out during her bachelorette party that her fiancé is cheating on her. However, this leads her to having an awakening and making huge changes in her life. These changes she lead to her figuring out who she is and growing in confidence as a person.

Soren is a baseball player who is trying to overcome his reputation as “Sin”. You can’t help but find yourself rooting for him to grow and become the person he wants to be. His family is delightful, I kind of wish there could be a novella all about Monty! He is patient, kind, and looks amazing in a backwards ball cap.

Clarke and Soren are perfect for each other. Helping each other find themselves, explore who they want to be, and to even ask for what they want. They can be frustrating at times, but the you can really see the relationship grow throughout the story.

I am so excited to see what else Kelly has planned for this baseball team in the next book! This book is perfect for those who enjoy steamy romance, baseball, coffee, and a story filled with emotion.

Hit It and Quit It by Kelly Reynolds is OUT TODAY!
I absolutely love and adore this book! I am a fan of a baseball romance and this is a fantastic twist on one.
This book is the story of Soren and Clarke. Clarke has grown up as a puppet of his rich parents and then her fiancé who ends giving her every reason to finally leave and find her own self and life away from all of them. She gets a job with a new baseball team, The Rose City Roasters. Before her job begins she runs into Soren as her new residence, a vintage trailer park, and the adventure that is them begins. Soren is grumpy, broody, and very misunderstood. Underneath that grump exterior is a total cinnamon role for a choice few. Clarke is definitely one of the ones who can find that gooey center. I love their banter and their story. Kelly has done it again, given me an amazing and spicy love story to absolutely DEVOUR! I cannot wait for the next book in the series and to of course get my signed copy of this book for the trophy/book case!
If you love a grumpy/sunshine baseball romance with a quirky found family and a totally swoonworthy MMC, you need to go read this book, NOW!

📸 Flirty Banter and Tension
⚾️Opposite Attracts

⚾️ Workplace romance

Southern Belle and a baseball player have banter and tension! They were made for each other. Clarke needed a fresh start from her hometown. She became a social media coordinator for the Roasters. Clarke got to see someone she had already met before. How they first met was definitely interesting 😉. I'm glad Clarke was able to find herself and become her own person without her parents or her ex. Soren is a sweet guy with a dirty mouth. How he treats Clarke is so adorable. He treats her like she's a goddess who he worships. They made an agreement with each other when Clarke needed help with a certain list. I really like that a romance bookstore was mentioned in this book. Clarke received great support from her new friends, her sister, and coworkers. I really like they mentioned disability, LGBTQAI+, and pronouns in this story. I really love this story and getting to meet Soren and Clarke's love story.

Kelly will hate to hear that I read this book in a single day, but I’M NOT SORRY KELLY, it was too good and engaging to put down. I’ve loved Kelly’s Christmas-y romance novellas, and have been so excited for her to write full novels and this was even better than I was expecting. I’m so in for the Roasters (we love a coffee themed baseball team) and I’ll be patient but I’m so excited for the next book!

Clarke is a southern belle who has done everything that’s been expected of her - only for it to end either being cheated on, ending her engagement the night before her wedding, and having no real friends to turn to. So she ditches her life and the south to start over outside of Portland as the social media gal for a new professional baseball team, the Roasters. The same baseball team that Soren Sinclair (or his hated nickname “Sin”) has just started playing for. After a breakup and being hounded by the press, Soren is just trying to focus on baseball and not the hottie who lives next door … and is apparently working for his team. A bit of haters to short fling to lovers starts between Soren and Clarke, both agreeing it’s just a short term thing, but both not expecting to fall so quickly.

This is an absolute spicy romance that made me laugh out loud, but it’s SO much more. Both Soren and Clarke are really struggling with their identities and who they REALLY are. And both are the people who really understand the other. The team and city as a whole is so good too. This is STRONG found family vibes which is my absolute favorite. I cared so much about each side character and just want to live in this lovely world Kelly made. There is a third act breakup but it makes so much sense for these two that it didn’t bother me. And A+ big gesture from Soren. Anyway what a perfect read to start this baseball season off right - I highly recommend!!!

I found the characters to be really diverse and complex; I loved the dynamic of the story and the plot. Clarke's desire to not just be known as someone's daughter or wife is 100% relatable, and something I think the majority of modern women struggle to come to terms with: finding/choosing/keeping love, while also being a feminist. I found Clarke to be sweet and endearing. Soren I adored (even though I lowkey found him a tad creepy in the beginning)! I love the good boy pretending to be bad persona and I found him to be extremely modern and inclusive, especially with his "nibling," Monty.
Despite how much I genuinely enjoyed this book, I ultimately went with a 4 star rating because, while the playful banter was hilarious, the sexual tension was high, and the grand gestures made you fall in love with these characters even more than you already were, I found myself wanting MORE in some parts of the story. And in other parts, I had logistical questions about Soren and Clarke working together and dating that I didn't feel were addressed so they kinda loomed in my mind throughout the read.

What to expect;
-plus size representation
-baseball romance
-fling to lovers
-found family

This book had me smiling from the very first page. As a midsize girly myself, I love reading about them in books. The bravery and confidence Clarke gained throughout this book was amazing, her and Soren brought the best in each other out and everyone could tell from the minute they met. The found family with Clarkes new friends and Soren’s teammates was perfect and I just want the best for them all.

Clarke is a girl after my own heart! I loved seeing her finally break free of her family expectations and live a life that actually made her happy. Her journey to finding herself was so well done! I loved that she stuck up for herself, even if she didn’t speak her mind brilliantly she tried and I loved that for her. And Soren, I loved him so much! The way he loves his family, and how hard he worked to get where he is in his career was written so good. And the way he loved Clarke? LOVED!

I can’t wait for the rest of the series, I adore this cast of characters, the little baseball family makes me so happy.
