Ren’s new roles are dredging up old memories best left buried, and he’s having trouble dealing with the emotional turmoil. But the President was right when he claimed Kyoko was Ren’s good luck charm. Will her strange but good-natured ways be enough to keep him from his own darkness?
Yoshiki Nakamura (仲村佳樹) is a Japanese mangaka. She was born June 17. Nakamura made her manga debut with "Yume de Auyori Suteki" in the manga magazine Hana to Yume in 1993.
I fell in love with this manga immediately. It drew me in and kept me there. Sadly to say i have been reading it from the internet and hate to wait in between chapters. I've also been watching it's anime and I've seen the first episode of the TV show extravagant challenge based on this manga. But nothing beats the manga because it has all the extra details that are not shown elsewhere.
I'm writing this review for all of the volumes of Skip Beat because i tend to read them all together. I enjoy Kyoko's personality, the way she is inexperienced in various things(such as friends, boyfriends, etc.), serious with others(her acting,etc.)..Her relationship with Ren and how she won't admit to her feelings. I also like the turn of events with Sho, how he is now interested in her.
I like reading this manga over & over again because it basically shows a young girl who had her heart broken and was stepped on, who gathered up all her anger, her little left hope and decided to get revenge. Along the way she makes friends, experiences new feelings, develops a deep love for her acting which changes things around for her.
No matter how many time you get knocked down, you should get back up and fight!!
This was a fantastic read. Skip Beat is one of my favourite mangas of all time. All of the volumes will get 5 stars from me. Each volume just keeps getting better and better. I especially loved the conclusion of the Violence Mission arc in the story. In this volume, there are glimpses into Ren's past as Kuon. It was very interesting to learn about Ren's past and the friendship he had with his friend Rick. This volume showed a dark side to the story as Ren goes through a traumatic experience while on set. The ending chapters were my favourite as both Ren and Kyoko realize their feelings for one another. I am really excited to see where their story goes. I know I will love it, but I am not going to be sad when this manga finally comes to a close. Another A+ read for me. I cannot wait to read Volume 29. Overall, an amazing read.
I thought Ren’s past was never revealed but it was in this volume?!! My memory is so bad… anyway it didn’t give all the details but enough to figure out what caused Ren’s trauma. Looking forward to the next volume!

There were more "Kuon" flashbacks in this, and it's definitely giving you more pieces of the puzzle... no word on how said pieces fit together so far though :P
We now know the identity of the person that appeared to be dying in the previous flashback where someone called Kuon a murderer, but who Rick is, and what his significance is prior to that death scene (and he DEFINITELY had some significance prior) has been left pretty unanswered, with the exception of his "kill the roster, Kuon" and the "have the girl you love cast her magic on it" scenes.
However.... having Ren then ask Kyouko to put the finishing touches (basically "casting her magic") on his food before he ate it? PROOF THAT HE NOW CAN ADMIT HIS LOVE FOR HER.
And then Kyouko was able to give her Princess Rosa necklace to him to protect him? Clearly SHE ALSO ADMITS IT.
VALIDATION IS HERE. Only 28 volumes in :P

I loved seeing how sweet and concerned Kyoki is over Ren after the driving incident. How scary that was! Has he finally snapped? What was the accident in his past exactly? I want to know!! And then Ren's cooking!!! LOL! I think I will pass if invited to dinner. But I loved the backstory we get behind why and what it means for him. Kyoko is really starting to open up in this one but I worry how Ren is battling his past so fervently. And how I want to know more about what happened to cause it all!! Of course the President and his antics never fail to amuse me! He is such a meddler!
When a stunt Ren is performing goes wrong, he is thrown off balance and leans upon Kyoko to find his center. But in doing so, has he unleashed something long hidden?
This book continues to be my guiltiest of pleasures, but I continue to enjoy every single page of it. The interplay between Ren & Kyoko, both so damaged, is both touching and hilarious as neither can ever really get on the same page at the same time. I wait impatiently for the next volume.
I like this Cain Heel storyline, although I wished she used a different name. Ren is totally loosing his cool and his past is catching up to him. Kyoko is finally realizing that she actually might be falling in love. I read the latest HanaYume magazine at the book store and in that they are starting to shoot the movie with him. I cannot wait to read more.
Insomma, voglio sapere tutto!

Today's post is on Skip Beat, vol 28 by Yoshiki Nakamura. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kyoko in her Love Me uniform looking at the reader. As it is the twenty-eighth in the series, you need to have read the first twenty-seven. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of Kyoko and Ren. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Ren's new roles are dredging up old memories best left buried, and he's having trouble dealing with the emotional turmoil. But the President was right when he claimed Kyoko was Ren's good luck charm. Will her strange but good-natured ways be enough to keep him from his own darkness?
Review- We get a lot of Ren's back story in this volume and start to see what he is running from. Of course Kyoko has no idea about what is going in his head because she is too worried about herself. The character development in this volume is great. Kyoko gets to see how Ren deals when he feels underprepared for a role. those moments help balance out the serious plot development with Ren. It ends with Kyoko having an emotional crisis herself and I can't wait to see how she handles it.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
During the shooting a car crash scene, a little boy impatient to see his mom, runs across the street. Luckily the cars are able to stop without hitting each other or anyone. Unfortunately, this brings Ren into a PTSD state, reliving the day Rick was hit by a car. He feels like he freezing in Rick’s blood. Kyoko runs over to the cars and realizes its the same expression he wore the day of the fight.
Ren is locked in his memories and welcomes death when he feels a hand holding his hand, he starts to return to the world, with the imagine of Kyoko that greets him back.
‘Yes, I can hear you just fine” he says. I know it was a sad moment and I heart hurts for him, but I squealed when Ren is brought back through her voice.
This was a really great as far as character development for both Ren and Kyoko. Kyoko realizes she has fallen in love with Ren. I just hope they are able to tell each other about their feelings or atleast share a kiss.
Aww Ren has so much going on and so much trauma that he keeps locked away. I wonder if Kyoko will ever know that the person she calls ‘Corn” is Ren.
I was trying to pace myself and only read three volumes ever so often but how I can not continue after such a cliff hanger!
A peek into Ren’s past! Finally we now know what’s haunting Ren. He blames himself with his friend’s death. He always wear the watch as a shackle. His trauma is so real, that he completely froze up like his soul left his body. Just glad that Kyouko is there to help him get out of that situation.
Note: Ren cooking by throwing all ingredients together regardless of the taste, then eating it as if he is fighting his weakness and trauma.
Favorite Line: “Will I be crushed to pieces and disappear? I couldn’t go forward or retreat. I was stuck and couldn’t move. I was pulled out of the depths of darkness by her. I didn’t think I’d be trapped again by the feelings I has back then. Will I wither and disappear?”
That continuation of the last volume's cliffhanger wasn't quite as intense as I'd expected, thankfully. I really thought there'd be a grievous injury haha. It was still quite traumatizing to Ren though, understandably so. And we're finally getting a proper look at what his life was like in America, with Rick and his chicken Brian lol.
The cliffhanger this time seems to be that Kyoko has fully fallen for Ren, and that she also might be aware of her feelings too! That's insane, it simultaneously feels too quick, but also it's been 28 volumes, so there should be some kind of development!
I am so uninterested in this series, but I want to see it through. I won’t be making proper reviews for it anymore since my thoughts are just generally the same all the time anyway (lots of annoyance/anger for some volumes now); my rating will tell you if I liked or disliked it. You can safely assume, however, that I still despise Sho and Ren, and everyone else, but Kyo and her bestie (who sometimes isn’t around and sometimes is, much like Sho).
So now we find out that Ren has a dark past besides just wanting to get out of his family’s shadow. Sigh. I guess it’s manga so… I’m glad this wasn’t all the Cain siblings descent into darkness all volume though 🤷♀️ I hope Ren’s role as BJ goes as quickly as possible, but I also know it won’t. Okay okay it’s probably not that bad.

Ren trauma. That's the volume. Glimpses into his Kuon past are really frickin creepy. Heartwarming to see though Kyoko become his good luck charm and touchstone. Excited to see Kyoko's box with many locks. Her emotional panic will be at an al time high.
