King of the silver screen, Feinnes·Tang, passed away after years of battling with heart disease. He later woke up to find himself in the body of an outdated idol starlet. I have thoroughly enjoyed this. And safe to say this book would definitely be on my to-reread shelf.
I like the maturity and sensibility shown by Tang Feng (protagonist). He is such a level headed and clever person. At times manipulative as well. His powerful lovers are no match to him. Tang Feng sure lead them by the nose. That's the funnest part.
Another element I love about the story is the interesting characters created by the author. Each have their story and unique personality. It is also fun watching the interactions between Tang Feng and his lovers and also his lovers' interactions with each other. Because they are all trying hard to get into Tang Feng's pants, lots of amusing things as well as dangerous adventures happened.
Tang Feng is a steadfast and hardworking actor trying to make it big in the dog-eat-dog entertainment industry. Needless to say he encountered lots of unpleasant incidents along the way. I enjoyed following Tang Feng's growth as an actor and a reborn person. I like how he stays true to himself and does not easily bow to pressure.
There are stories within this story. Mostly stories of films Tang Feng acted in. I think it's included to show us Tang Feng's ability as a talented and dedicated actor. Some of those stories are pretty interesting as well. I read this book in Chinese but if you are interested, there is a fan translation in English over here; Giraffes Unspotted . But the translation is still ongoing though.
By the way if I am to choose amongst Tang Feng's lovers, I would pick Lu Tian Chen. So who would you pick?
Non-consensual sex here and there. I do like the books. But still find it hard to completely say the word 'like' since there are rape scenes which I find disturbing. Urgh. Guilty pleasure, I say.
I completed reading this book in Chinese, it has altogether 4 volumes and 342 chapters. English translation is still in progress.
The story was quite fast pace to begin with and I was hooked from the first few chapters. Tang Feng, whose former life as Hollywood Chinese superstar Fiennes Tang just recovered after a near death drowning incident. Yet he was drugged and raped when he just got discharged from hospital.
There were several hilarious scenes and also a very strange love relationship between Tang Feng and his 3 powerful lovers. It's indeed a fantasy to imagine 3 naked men sleeping together in bed yet abstaining from an orgy... 😂
Casanova happy-go-lucky rich tycoon playboy, Charles who smuggled weapons; well mannered, gentle and thoughtful billionaire Lu Tianchen whose secret profession is an assassin; and finally, dangerous and cruel Albert who is the most powerful in terms of wealth and connections in the underworld and reputed for his perverseness.
They are like the big kitty cats trying to bed the witty little twitty bird Tang Feng. But Tang Feng treated them all with due respect and love and won back the same from them too. When Fiennes Tang died lonesome, God make up to him with 3 loving men with loves him dearly in this life as Tang Feng.
The story got draggy towards the end although there were touching scenes when Tang Feng acted in his own biography of Fiennes Tang but it definitely makes the characters more endearing and real.
It was just alright. The high point was the main character. This transmigrator was level headed most of the time. Unfortunately, the other leading characters were written as trash. The typical transmigration story has the MC jumping into a better life with at least one good love interest or gets happier alone if they don’t find romance.. Not sure what the author was thinking making the MC feel hardships in both lives! It’s like the transmigrator was much better off in his first life even with an early death. The second life was spent running a gauntlet to dodge sadists with the mental EQ level of a spoiled, rich teenager.
I was surprised at the quantity of date rape and aggressive sexual assault incidents used to initiate intimacy, if it can be called intimate. It’s like the potential love interests can’t get happy unless they physically force the MC into submission. Add to this the slave like ownership methods to build a relationship used by several potential suiters is another example of the main character’s second life being less attractive than the first. You get a second life, but, lose all dignity and real control over your body and life. Not even worth it!
Haven't read a book quite like this before, but it's definitely more of a guilty pleasure book.
The story follows our MC, Tang Feng, who was a famous movie star called Fiennes Tang in his previous life. After dying of heart disease at the early age of 40, he finds himself reborn in the body of an unknown celebrity called Tang Feng and has a second chance at life. Obviously, he has amazing acting skills, so a lot of the story follows him as he slowly establishes himself in the showbiz world again, but I really read the story out of a morbid interest the romance.
This is very much a harem story, where our MC sleeps with and has romantic entanglements with multiple individuals for various reasons. While there are multiple characters who express their love for him, it boils down to 3 MLs. In fact, one of the main reasons I kept reading on after I lost interest in the story was to see who Tang Feng ends up with, and surprise surprise it ends up
The story itself was just okay. I found some of it interesting but skimmed past a lot of the parts that focused on various movies or projects that Tang Feng is filming. There were also random action scenes thrown in, like getting kidnapped while filming in the jungles of Southeast Asia, which I thought was overly dramatic and skimmed through as well.
The novel doesn't paint a very pleasant picture of the showbiz world and features multiple characters who rely on hidden relations and strong backers to become popular. Felt kinda sleazy and dirty to read about, and makes you wonder how much of it is true.
Our MC is a very mentally stable and pragmatic person and doesn't let himself get easily flustered, since he's already lived through 40 years in his previous life and has experienced a lot already. Tabloids can publish rampant negative rumors about him and he doesn't bat an eye. I didn't love him since I felt like he was overly passive at times, but he was acceptable as a main character. Of the love interests, my favorite was probably Lu Tianchen. I've always had a fondness for icy cold personalities who only show a gentle side to their lover, and he fits the bill perfectly. Charles had too much of a playboy personality for me to get behind him, and Albert was too terrifying to support. It's crazy to me how far he went sometimes to orchestrate a meeting with Tang Feng.
