Siddhant Roy is back in Bangalore after a really depressing, detained semester. He wants to rebuild his life from scratch without looking back. But he is an engineering student, after all. It never gets easy. He makes a bunch of new friends, who take him on a journey where he crashes into strange apartments, gets drunk and pukes halfway across the city, tries to start an online social network and watches all his efforts fail miserably. He faces denial, acceptance, love and hatred, all in the span of less than a year. He must now make a choice, whether to silently withstand the oppression of his sinister and stubborn college principal, or to risk everything and take his own stand. What will Siddhant do? Life, Served Hot is a coming-of-age story of a young rebel's undying attachment towards his dreams and survival.
Shomprakash Sinha Roy (Born: October, 1990) stays in Bangalore and works as a Content Developer at Dell Inc. He is the author of the popular novels 'The Pink Smoke' & 'Life Served Hot' & 'The Backbenchers : 3 Days of Summer' . He loves books, and has a fantastic collection of classics and contemporary hits. He joined engineering in 2008, but eventually dropped out, owing to a difference in opinion with his college authorities and multiple medical complications. He later attended grad school at the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts in India, to work his way towards a degree in Business Management. He claims that his greatest sustainable experience stems from the struggle that he has witnessed, and it has been his endeavor to yield the same into words. His world is driven by the forces of good literature and the language of fantasy presented in Fiction. He is a Harry Potter fanatic, and worships the works of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. He has written for many anthologies, including ‘25 Strokes of Kindness’ and 'The Traversal of Lines'. He remains a prolific writer, speaker and self-recognized nerdfighter.
Bookstores are full of novels which narrates the story of the respective author about his engineering experiences. There are established and bestselling authors like Durjoy Datta and Sachin Garg who has written about the same topic before and ruled the bestsellers chart. And Shom follows their footsteps by writing 'life Served Hot'. But the best part about this story, though it is a fictional work, is you can relate it with your own life if you are an engineering student. We tend to blame God and our fate when we are bombarded by several troubles in our life continuously and Siddhant, the protagonist of the book is no different. From getting detained for a semester to sleeping with a hottest chick from the town, from puking on the streets after getting sloshed to smoking to get the rid of his problems ; he has done it all. After the numerous confusions and troubles in his life & messing with the not-so-kind principle of the college, he realizes his responsibilities towards life. LSH is the journey of Siddhant's life at engineering college and rebuilding his life after the number of disasters. Shom's way of story telling is simple still impressive. His language gives an impression of a matured author. Overall, if you are looking for a book with all the contents including humor, joy, disappointment and hope; LSH is the best book you can prefer to pick.
Shom always have this incredible style of writing and his first book (Official - Paperback) "The Pink Smoke" proved it so. Hence when it was announced by grapevine that this valentines Shom's next book is coming up, I was excited and the book did not disappoint me at all. Its said that never judge a book by its cover, but when the cover is super amazing, who does not get attracted to it.It was a refreshing read. A rebellious, free-spirited, notorious yet lovable boy, Siddhant Roy's journey was gripping enough to keep me hooked to the book till it was completed. Loved it thoroughly. It detailed the prevalent and conservative education system which administers first impression lasts long rule as a prime mean to judge a student's caliber. Felt like watching 3 idiots through the pages with another perspective where the lad does not give up to the fowl play of the college management and emerge as a winner in the end.And the entangled strings of his unsuccessful and confusing relationships are add-ons to enjoy the plot perfectly.
Great Job Shom! Eagerly waiting for the next ones in row ! :) :)
This might be a fictional book but this book will make you confront with the reality. No doubt we are living in a century, where every other person is an engineer or a doctor but here the Author has something different to say.
Siddhant Roy, the protagonist of the story returns to Bangalore to continue his engineering where he was detained in the previous year. He decides to start his life afresh. He befriends Ridhim, Vishal, Gaurav and others and life started running smoothly for him. But Life isn’t that easy, is it ?? to read my complete review, CLICK HERE: http://sany-speaks4.blogspot.com/2014...
Set-backs and achievements are part and parcel of human life. We are too happy, we exclaim; exaggerate at times, when we achieve something that we desire. Similarly, reactions are completely opposite if we lose something. But that is what you call life – a mixture of palatable as well as unpalatable incidents. Palatable one’s make you happy while non-palatable teach lessons in life. I hope you remember my review on The Pink Smoke by Shomprakash Sinha Roy, don’t you? Well, here, I have finished reading Life Served Hot, a sequel of Siddhant Roy’s story.
After having suffered a set-back in his previous relationship, Siddhant Roy confidently moves ahead in life, without forgetting lessons that the previous instance teaches him. Planning to avoid every bad thing, he tries to develop his sharp focus on studies. With new friends Siddhant tries to live and enjoy his life like before. With these new pals, he gets involved in several activities other than studies. Ignorance towards college lectures and studies however puts him in jeopardy.
But every lock has a key and every problem has a solution. Will Siddhant Roy be able to search that key or solution to his problems? Will Siddhant be able to clear the muddle in life? How will he deal with these problems in his life? To discover the story in-depth, one needs to purchase the copy and go through it. Siddhant’s story continues from The Pink Smoke and so those who haven’t been through the previous book should get both these books to discover Siddhant’s journey!
Over-all: The cover of the novel is good. The title of the story is riveting. Narration of the story is really gripping and delightful. The plot of the story too, is good. The drawbacks of this book include the repeated mention of activities like smoking, etc. which tend to dissolve the attention that the story grasps. It becomes slightly disinteresting at times. Also, towards the end of initial part the story becomes a bit dull. But kudos to the author’s writing style which holds eyeballs on the story despite those few dull parts.
Considering everything, I would rate the book with 3.75/5. Congratulations to the author and hope he keeps writing in future.
This novel depicts how effective PR can elevate a less than average novel to such colossal heights-Shomprakash must be delighted to see his piece of crap getting accolades from someone as insignificant as Nikita Singh.5 Point someone was published precisely a decade back and it's been a good 10 years and the same concept has been replicated in an entirely different package time and again.A confused dude,an engineering college, girls who predominantly serve no other purpose than get laid(which is precisely the reason why majority Indians buy the book-CheBha has addicted everyone),fuckups, revivals even resuscitations,an unsupportive family, condescending relatives, some loser friends and a surprisingly happy ending. I mean I Picked this novel since I read the words 'fresh' on it's cover page along with 'social network' at it's backside and thought this would perhaps pave my way for a light yet entertaining novel but I am afraid it was a total let down. This trend of getting into colleges for the heck of social norms is getting on my nerves.I mean I worked in the industry for like a decade and quit because I wanted to build my own business is what motivates me to breathe every ounce of oxygen I take in.Stories like these sound extremely frivolous to me when things have changed rapidly over the last couple of years and people are experimenting with their careers even when they are as young as 17.So I don't buy shit from this cult of people who endorse 'being a junkie, sloshed majority of times, bunking classes listening to Bob Dylan, getting laid with like a dozen girls so as to satisfy an insatiable libido in the name of love and finally ending up being the good guy' culture. This ain't mature writing at all. This is another dude emanating from the Durjoy Datta camp who thinks he has done an amazing job but he needs to know is what he has written is cliche and stale ideas are seldom entertaining so he should focus on some innovative concepts as the line of thinking seems extremely parochial as of now.
The story continues from where Siddhant Roay's life is messed up completely. How he shapes up when problems galore and will he be able to overcome it all is a big question in the story?
The narration does justice to the story but the depth is found wanting many times. The story lacks freshness and the only part that excites is struggle. The predictability factor is too high and there is nothing out of the blues to comfort the readers.
The tell tale of a struggler is good and one can sympathize with it but the monotonous college scenes and overdose of booze and smoke kills the excitement.
A good book but with lots to work upon for a concept and story line.
My New Year( Ok , Mid-New Year ) Resolution .....Thou shall never pick any book ( if that's what they can be called ) from the Durjoy Datta-Nikita Singh-Shomprakash Roy ( & multitude others) camp !!! Amen !!!! Enough said . So traumatised by the sheer inanity / tomfoolery / idiocy of this " whatever" , I can't be bothered to write a review - ( of what ??? ) And this is one resolution I'll definitely have no problem keeping - to save my life !!!
The book would be a good read for the young college students. The writing in this book could have been more interesting although at some places it brings the college memories back. The plot seems incomplete and the moment you start getting the grip of story the book gets over. So the author wants you to read his next book to understand full plot. The language is simple and easy to comprehend. Try this if you want to try book which is light with content. #reader
