It may have been out of sync with my expectations, but I was hoping for a memoir of a hockey player. This was an attempt at Hunter S Thompson meets hockey with possibly more words dedicated to masturbation than the actual sport. I appreciate the author’s candid storytelling and plowed through it in 3 days so that’s something for sure.

Just finished the book, if you like/love hockey or sports for that matter this book is a must read for you. Bobby takes you on his journey to the NHL, it's not an easy journey by any means either. We expect our sports heroes to be perfect specimens filled with unbridled confidence and physical prowess. This is not always the case as documented by Bobby and his hard fought climb to the NHL. His story is filled with ups and downs of the climb to the "show", its filled with dreams that get dashed or slowed down due to poorly timed injuries, roster numbers and trying to get noticed being classified as an older rookie.
This book is as fast paced as an NHL game, it's hard hitting and emotional. Bobby has the innate ability to draw the reader in to his story and you feel his victories and setbacks in the world of hockey. His detailed accounts of his injuries and being concussed for an extended period of time put you the reader right there. The author has done a great job of laying out what it takes to be a professional athlete, it is an eye opening raw look at what it takes to make it and the sacrifices made physically and emotionally.

The most vulnerable book I’ve read. Truly a savage story. You are truly an incredible writer. Way to go all out and share your story. I look forward to reading more of your work. #49/1000 and couldn’t be happier for you and your family.

This story is a gift. It is a tale of all-consuming desires, the power of love, and the grace of forgiveness. It is NOT for minors as it has a good bit of mature content. But if you want a look inside the hard scrabble road to the NHL, this is your book.

I started reading this on a flight to Boston. As a hockey parent with two teenage boys who, like all teenage hockey players, dream of "making it," I couldn't put down Bobby's story. Told in vivid detail with an ease only a veteran who's been on the inside can bring, I felt like I was with him in every rink and locker room. The insights to the hockey road are invaluable.

But if you think this is a book just about hockey, you'd be wrong. I paused reading when I got to Boston, right as Bobby learned he was going to be a father, on the cusp of going upstairs to play for the Bruins in the Garden. When I picked it back up, I was expecting a happily ever after climax of playing at the highest level followed by a denouement one finds with all aging athletes who have to give up what they love most.

I didn't get that.

Instead, I was given a look into a man who, yes, had to give up what he loved most, but also one who was about to embark on an epic voyage to battle demons and face challenges far beyond what the hockey world could ever throw at him. I won't spoil it, so I'll end here.

Bottom line: Buy it. You won't be disappointed in the least and, if you're like me, you'll be grateful for the bare knuckle, no-holds-barred honesty presented by a hockey player with a flair for telling a good story.

Yes, I'm the author, and yes I'm reviewing my own book. And YES I'm giving it 5 out of 5 stars!! I promise you that this book is unlike anything you have ever read! It's a savage memoir in every way, and I do feel very blessed to have had the honor of extracting these sentences and sharing my life story of fighting my way to the NHL. But it's much more than a hockey journey, this is my soul, my essence, captured on the page with savage words. Thanks so much for hearing my story! Buckle up and enjoy the wild ride~

This book is real and raw! It truly is a savage memoir. The vulnerability that Bobby shows in this book is admirable. It describes in great detail the trials and tribulations that he faced while chasing his dream of playing in the NHL. It’s not a golden road that people make it out to be. This is so well written that I will definitely be reading it again. I couldn’t put it down, always wanting to know what was going to happen next. I can’t recommend this book enough!

this is a great book but for mature audiences only. I applaud Bobby for putting it all out there. The vulnerability in the book is a testament to his faith and how God breaks down walls. Also - huge kudos to his wife, Samantha. Her faithfulness and forgiveness are the kind that most people only hope they could have. This story is raw, is wild, and is the kind that shines light in the darkest of shadows speaking hope for all who are lost.

Sex, Drugs, Pucks, and Souls is not a tale for every reader. Robins offers an excruciatingly detailed and visceral account of his rise to stardom as professional hockey player . . . as well as the personal hurdles inherent to that journey. Now, I'm not usually a big reader, but I finished this book in two days. Couldn't put it down, in fact.

I am thoroughly impressed with Robins' skill at writing and ability be vulnerable. To eloquently corelate the contents of what cautioned readers might call a veritable $#!^show AND do it conscientiously, all while bearing your soul, is a feat requiring uncommon valor and confidence. Mad props to Bobby.

For those who do brave this savage memoir, I hope Robins' intention of exposing the spiritual pitfalls of pursuing a professional career in the world of sports rings true. To ignore this warning would be to miss the moral of the story.

When Bobby Robins labels this memoir as “Savage”, he really means it. This book will certainly inspire the reader as they read Robins journey to the NHL.

Savage covers it. Any book that mentions Artie P. in the acknowledgements is must read by me.
