A case of mistaken identity would change both their lives forever…

Miss Millicent Silverstone has always believed herself to be a simple, unassuming farmer’s daughter. She never dreamed that the special attention Lady Gillingham always showed her was anything more than neighborly fondness. When that attention turned to sending Millie along to Nedworth Hall as a companion for her daughter, Lady Eleanor, Millie was flattered and amazed…at first.

The summer house party adventure begins beautifully when Millie meet a charming valet named David…except her new friend isn’t a valet at all, and she isn’t the lady he believed her to be either…

David Sawyer, the Duke of Foxley, would rather be anywhere but at Nedworth Hall for the summer. New to his position as a duke, he would rather be tackling the problems of his home farms than being chased after by the likes of Lady Eleanor. After their first, embarrassing encounter, his heart can only belong to Millie, but she is both too far below him to court and too good and pure to make his mistress. He is just about to give up the house party and return home…when he learns the secret of who Millie truly is.

It is up to David to reveal to Millie who she truly is, but will the revelation break her heart or leave them free to love each other? And can he protect her…and himself…from Lady Eleanor?

This is my 24th book by Merry Farmer. I picked up 1 book of hers in Jan. 2020 and didn't pick her up again until Apr 2021 when she wrote Second Chance Manor series with Scarlett Scott and Caroline Lee. She does have other genres but I only read Regency or Victorian era genres.

I enjoyed Millie and David's story. Cute, quick read. Enjoyable series. Cute couple.

Millie is surprised to be sent to Nedworth Hall as a companion to Lady Eleanor, Lady Gillingham’s daughter. The summer house party adventure begins beautifully when Millie meet a charming valet named David. David Sawyer, the Duke of Foxley, would rather be anywhere but at Nedworth Hall for the summer. The finale of the series & a lovely finale it was. This isn’t a standalone book as secrets are revealed. I loved the put upon Millie & the quiet almost shy David their romance was tender with stolen glances & touches until Lady Cambourne threw them together & sparks flew. Whilst I thoroughly disliked Lady Eleanor her over the top antics made me laugh. A charming, captivating romance, which I read in a sitting & loved.
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Oh can Eleanor suffer the consequences for actions right now! Now please! Ugh. Poor David I thought would run home from the party. Millie and David held strong together as they survived the party of parties. The romance was one that was sweet and beautiful. I loved that the writer shared more about David and Millie’s relationship. I loved this book for the entertainment and enjoyment.

SURPRISES AND REVELATIONS

The True Heir is the sixth and final book in The Secrets of Nedworth Hall but will read well as a stand-alone. It has an interesting cast of characters and lots of secrets and mysteries. While the true heir of Lord Carshalton was revealed at the end of book five, this book reveals more secrets, and who the actual mother is too. I call this the ‘rest of the story’ and how it all began.

It was fun seeing how Millie and David actually met, the misunderstanding of who they were, titled and untitled. The chemistry that was apparent from the very beginning and the struggle of each of them to deny their feelings because of their social standings. From the previous stories, I enjoyed seeing them together, and you could just feel the attraction between them. The house party held by Lord and Lady Cambourne has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. Overall, the house party is a huge success for several couples—but not necessarily everyone. The people who matter, all accept the news graciously, and Millie won’t be facing the unexpected alone, she will have David leading the way.

Millie: Everyone will know. Everyone that has seen me as a wretch and a servant will suddenly know I’m—not who I said I was.
David: But you are exactly who you have been from the start. You are a beautiful, sweet, good woman who has been kind to all, even under trying circumstances, and who has given so freely to everyone else without asking for much in return.

Millie: I trust you. Do with me what you will. I am ready to play the part it seems I was born to play in this story. I am ready to accept that I am Lord Carshalton’s heir.
Lady Cambourne: It is your sweetness and good soul which has given this story the happiest of endings.
David: You look utterly captivating. I feel spellbound.

In many ways, this is like Cinderella and her Prince Charming—without the evil stepmother and stepsisters. You can’t help but like and admire Millie, she is sweet, kind, compassionate, and even forgiving. She is smart, knows about farming, and was raised by two people who gave her a good home—and the Countess of Gillingham made sure she also had an education and was groomed as a lady. It may have taken years for the truth to be revealed, but it comes with the coveted happily ever after ending—to this tale and series. Best of all, seeing the comeuppance of one particular person was well deserving.

Millie: I think I’ll have enough friends in this frightening, new life to provide all the company I need. And truly, I just want to live a quiet life in the country with you.
David: I find that to be the most agreeable thing anyone has said all evening.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this story and this is my freely given opinion...

This is the end story of the series based on the house party at Nedworth Hall, and reveals the secret of who the Carshalton heir to the public. This story is focused on David, the Duke of Foxley, and Millie, the beautiful, sweet young woman who has captured his heart, but is far below him in social status. Millie is a sweet, warm hearted woman, but raised on a farm. She was given opportunities and an education by a patroness, Lady Gillingham, and because of her, ended up accompanying the Gillingham's daughter, Lady Eleanor, to the house party as a maid and companion. Despite the opportunity, Millie is miserable because Lady Eleanor is a snobbish, selfish, mean hearted, crass, horrible person intent on trapping the Duke, and bringing herself up and forward, chiefly by trampling everyone in her way, especially Millie.

David, from day one, was entranced by Millie, and has fallen in love with her, but was determined not to allow anything come to pass because of their differing stations. However, their hosts, seeing what was developing between Millie and David, reveal the secret to David that she is the true heir, hoping that would help level the field between them. David and Millie secretly meet and grow closer, but he is conflicted about revealing the truth to his love though, seeing as it ruin her sense of self and what she knows of the family she loves so dearly. In the mean time, he must work to stay out of the clutches of Eleanor who is determined to bag herself a duke to wed.

A very short cute story and finale to the series and I quite enjoyed the way this series played out concurrently with each story occurring at the same time, from a different perspective. But no matter what perspective, Eleanor was a spoiled, rotten witch who needed a good lesson in life.

The final book in Merry Farmer's series The Secrets of Nedworth Hall is "The True Heir". After weaving through five possibilities, all steamy romances, all is revealed, with no detail missed. Merry Farmer has managed to successfully build all six stories within the same time frame, the notorious summer house party hosted by Lord and Lady Cambourne, who are known to be scandalous.
By book six, society's rules of decorum are totally lax, the gatherings are louder and more boisterous, and everyone knows who is sleeping with whom. On the fringes of the activity is Millie, a farmer's daughter, pleasant and sweet. She is attending the house party as companion and ladies maid to Lady Eleanor. Millie is well liked by everyone except Lady Eleanor, who treats her with utter contempt and disdain at every turn, even in public in front of the other guests. On arrival, Millie is mistaken as a Lady by a duke, David who has offered to help unload the carriage. Millie believes David to be a valet. There is an instant connection between these two that manages to grow and blossom amidst the turmoil surrounding them. David is the Duke of Foxley, a quiet, unassuming man fairly new to the position of duke, trying to live up to the title and taking care of his dukedom, where he'd much rather be. Lady Eleanor is rigorously and shamelessly chasing David, her desire to become his duchess taking over all reason. David and Millie were definitely meant to be together, their personalities were compatible. This last installment moved along rapidly, wrapping up the house party with a masquerade ball and a reveal to all the guests. Of course, Lady Eleanor tries to get in the last word! Definitely recommended to wrap up the series.

Hot damn! THIS is how you finish a historical romance soap opera drama! Well done Merry, my girl…well done. You did us proud. Loved..loved LOVED, watching the final act on this unbelievably fun series. And having David and Millie be the end game was perfect. Two amazingly kind and sweet people who from the beginning have been drawn to one another despite their circumstances…just…aweee. And the way it was all wrapped up so neatly, allowing us to witness the chaos through Millie's eyes, was wonderful.

Millicent Silverstone, a modest farmer's daughter, is unexpectedly chosen to be a companion for Lady Eleanor by Lady Gillingham, whose kindness she had always interpreted as mere neighborly affection. This leads to an exciting yet mentally draining summer at Nedworth Hall, where she meets and forms a bond with David, who she initially thinks is a valet, not knowing he's actually the Duke of Foxley, David Sawyer. Despite mutual feelings, David struggles with the societal gap between him and Millie. However, as he uncovers and prepares to disclose Millie's true heritage, they face the challenge of whether this revelation will allow their love to flourish or be doomed by the obstacles of their social standings and Lady Eleanor's schemes.

Merry (I'm speaking directly to you now), the twists and turns of this series would have made Stefano proud (iykyk). …Thank you for a fun series, one that I will read over and over again. Oan…the most despicable Lady Eleanor…she deserved far worse than her ending. She deserved to walk around in pissy drawls for at least a week.

Everyone else....add The True Heir to your list of reads. You'll have a blast...I sure as hell did!!!

The True Heir is the sixth and final book of The Secrets of Nedworth Hall series by Merry Farmer. Set in Victorian Era, this is a series you need to read in order, because as the series title suggests, there's a secret (or a dozen) that are ready to be uncovered at the Cambourne's summer house party. The main secret of the series that we've been promised to get an answer for was, who is the illegitimate heir of Lord Carshalton.

Miss Millicent Silverstone (aka Millie) is at the house party as maid to Lady Eleanor, the daughter of the Earl and Countess of GIllingham. However, Lady Gillingham has always been kind to Millie and her parents since she was a child. The first person she meets at the house party is David, who turns out to be the very stressed and hard working Duke of Foxley.

This is a charming romance that starts off with a mistaken identity, then becomes a sweet romance where class is the only thing blocking these two wonderful characters. A clear shout out to the operetta HMS Pinafore at the end was also absolutely perfect. A fantastic ending to what has been a wonderful series, and a rather dramatic Victorian house party.

WOW, what an absolutely great story. If possible I would give this book and the rest of the series more than 5 +++ stars. Full of love, romance, secrets, action, mystery, history, lots of twists and turns. Loved this series about everyone at the summer party. There were a few others that would make for a good story - Lord and Lady Cambourne. David is a Duke who is invited to this party at the home of the Cambourne's. He's hoping to find a wife that really likes the same things as him- farming, country living and not needing the London society. It's there that he meets Millie, thinking that she is a Lady when she is a servant. She in turns thinks of him as a valet, so what a shock for both to find out the truth. As the party goes on, Millie and David share more and more while the other ladies try very hard to gain his attention. Some even try to trap him but with the help from others, he is able to stay true to Millie. Lots of secrets that are revealed in this book and the other books in this series. Hard to put down, you keep wanting more. Could go on and on but ---------. Would recommend this book and the rest of the series to everyone. I am an ARC and leave this unbiased, honest review.

A Fairytale Ending

This book concludes the „Secrets of Nedworth Hall“ series about the matchmaking house party at Nedworth Hall and the mystery about Lord Carshalton’s heir. I enjoyed the series very much, especially how the stories of the individual couples were interwoven. You experience a different perspective in each book until the individual bits form an overall picture in the last installment. That's the reason why I wouldn't recommend reading the book on its own.

Anyone who has read the other books in the series already knows who the heir is and who she falls in love with, but now Millie and David get their own story and other secrets are revealed too.

Millie Silverstone is the illegitimate daughter of two aristocrats, but was never told about it. She was raised by tenant farmers and is rather perplexed when her landlady Lady Gillingham asks her to accompany her daughter Eleanor to a houseparty hosted by Lady Cambourne as her lady’s maid.
Upon arrival she meets David, the Duke of Foxley, and they both fall immediately in love with each other. But their circumstances seem worlds apart…

If you like rags to riches and house party romance novels with some steam and a touch of mystery, you will enjoy this book!

The True Heir was a wonderful book about finding true love and happiness were you least expect it. Millie Silverstone attends a house party as a companion to her employer's daughter. Her employer always treated her well and ensured that she was well educated but her daughter, Lady Eleanor was mean, rude and very demanding of Millie's time and expected everyone to cater to her. Millie meets the Duke of Foxley but mistakenly thinks he is a footman or valet when he is tasked with helping her unpack their carriage when they arrived at the house party. Even though she attended as the companion she was allowed to mingle with the rest of the house party guests and she and David developed an attraction. Most of the guests were speculating on which of them could possibly be the much talked about Carshalton heir. All the titled guests were mingling in the attempt to make a match but Millie was just there to assist Eleanor with her needs. A great ending to a fantastic series. I am a fan of Merry's M/F romances and I will be looking forward to reading her next series.

Just who is the true Heir?
That is exactly what was revealed in this story.
I don't often laugh aloud while reading - but I did in this story because there is one "Lady" who should have gotten her bottom spanked for all the unkind things she did and also for what came out of her mouth, because it was not endearing at all, but very funny all the same.
I loved the romance which blossomed and grew between Millie and David. It was just perfect!
Well, Merry, you succeeded in making me laugh and cry (almost at the same time) but I still loved the way you poured a bit of your soul into this creation - thank you so much for that.
This whole series is a "highly recommended reading" from me!
I read an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of this book, have enjoyed it very much and am happy to leave a voluntary review.

This is such a good ending for this series. We learned of the attraction between Millie and David, the Duke of Foxley, in the previous books. This one goes into details and fills in the gaps. There are clandestine meetings, passionate kisses and way too many close calls. I love that David is humble and kind and unsure of himself as a duke, but stands unwaveringly by Millie’s side, determined to keep her safe. Millie is, and always has been, gentle, unassuming and supportive of everyone around her…..and so deserving of a fairytale ending. As an added bonus, we get to see Lady Eleanor finally put in her place! This is a beautiful story wherein the daughter gets the happy ending her mother did not, and I loved it!.

Millie was sent with Eleanor to a house party by Lady Gillingham who saw that Millie was educated and was Eleanor’s mother. When they got there Eleanor went into the house so Millie was helping to unload the coach when David came out to help she thought that he was a valet. Then Eleanor saw him and said that she was going to be his duchess but she still liked him even though they couldn’t be together. They had talked about a problem he had with his crops and she told him what her father had said but then David decided that he would go home as he thought there was no future for them. He was told the truth about Millie and told to stay that she would need his strength and love, Millie warned him about what Eleanor was trying to do to him, took her a bit to realize the truth of her birth. Good book!.

Oh, my what an ending. I have loved this series so much. Each book has a great story of a couple and how they come to be at the house party. The mystery of who was the heir of Lord Carshalton runs through each story. All try to figure out who it could be while finding their own love story. Millie and David make the story lovely cause of who they are and how they think and act. This is a series not to be missed by anyone who loves romance, with just the right amount of steam and conflicts to add to the fun. I was a little disappointed that Eleanor got off as easy as she did. I wish there had been and epilogue of how Millie life turned out with the love of her life. Be sure and get this series and read them in order to get the most out of the lovely stories. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

This book is slightly different, we now know who the heir is and the book actually goes back all the way to the start of the house party and focuses on the budding romance of Millie and David.

I like how little bits are all uncovered and you get to know these two characters. They fit together perfectly, MIlie has a good head on her shoulders and David is down to earth. I love how they are trying their utmost to avoid Lady Eleanor.

These books are lovely to read when you just want to go away from everyday life and even knowing everything at the start doesn't take away the enjoyment of following Millie discovering the truth.

Part fairy tale, part Shakespearean comedy of errors, and just so stinking adorable. I had an inkling from the very beginning that Millie would turn out to be the heir. She was just too perfectly Cinderella not to be. However, it wasn’t until much more recently that I realized the dashing Duke of Foxley would turn out to be her Prince Charming. By meeting the way they did, Millie and David were able to see one another as people rather than their positions in society. I thought these two were so sweet together and I spent so much time laughing over David’s attempts to tell Millie the truth. I don’t want this series to be over now. I loved all the couples, and I don’t want to let them go.

The final installment of The Secrets of Nedworth Hall series by Merry Farmer was a well-written ending to this series. The true heir of Lord Carshalton was revealed to be Millie, a beautiful farmer's daughter, and personal maid and often scapegoat to the shrew, Lady Eleanor. When Millie meets David, she thinks he's a valet, but he is Duke of Foxley, David Sawyer. They are smitten with one another and he wants her as his wife, regardless of her status. But when he finds out the truth of her identity, he will protect her at all costs. the book tied up all the loose ends, and added some twists to make it just perfect. Great read and what a great series.

Sixth and final in Secrets of Nedworth Hall series

If you’ve read the all the previous books in the series then there isn’t much of a surprise at this point but this was still a fun read. Even if you haven’t read the series, I feel you could still enjoy this one. Which was one of things I enjoyed about this story - it started back at the beginning of the house party and gave snippets over five weeks of events as other couples declared themselves but not so much that you’d be lost. This story was exactly what I was looking for, a quick lighthearted read that I knew wouldn’t disappoint and great end to the series. I enjoyed the MC and the extra help from Lady Cambourne. This one also had less drama than the others and no third act break up. There was one encounter.

This was adorable to read. One always loves the underdog, as Millie is and when faced with dealing with Lady Eleanor, Millie definitely needed saving. David is the Duke who wants her, but Lady Eleanor wants him. Watching the shenanigans that Eleanor goes through to get her man, is just plain maddening, just wanted to slap some sense into her! I loved how David’s emotions were displayed in his care for Millie’s emotions was so cute. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Eleanor got the her host angry..but all in all a wonderful story and series!.

The Final Book of the Series

Wonderful, romantic, sizzling, exciting, the final book of the series has it all!
It takes you on Millie and David’s journey into love from the first romantic moment they met.

David had given his heart to Millie from the moment they met but due to circumstances they could never be together until he learned the long kept secret. Now he had to explain everything to Millie without upsetting her and claim the love of his heart all the while keeping away from the mischief one particular lady was trying to make.

A wonderful romantic ending to this enjoyable series!.

Millie is a farm girl who has been mentored by Lady Gillingham, she's at the house party as a maid to Lady Eleanor, who is Lady Gillingham's heiress.
David meets Millie when she arrives and thinks she's the Lady and she thinks he's a valet! He's a Duke and is taken with Millie straight away, to such an extent that he thinks if he can't have her he won't have anyone! They spend as much time together as they can, allowing for Millie's maid duties, Lady Eleanor is an overbearing mistress.

Millie thinks she is just a simple farm girl but things are about to change when she meets David, Duke of Foxley. He is smitten with her right from the start, but Millie can't possibly entertain the pursuit of a duke!
What a great story, a wrap-up of the entire series and told from Millie and David's perspectives. I enjoyed this book. I thought David was so very sweet to Millie but I did want Millie to get a little bit more of a backbone sometimes.
Short story, easy read, can be a stand-alone but it helps to have read at least the book prior. Steamy scenes, a nice, tidy ending.

Beautiful conclusion to the series
For David, it was love at first sight. Millie feels a great attraction to David. They will learn about one another, their beings, and their secrets. The relationship between Mille and David is charming. This book is the perfect conclusion to the series and serves as the culmination of the series' mysteries and secrets.
I recommend each of the books in The Secrets of Nedworth Hall series.

The mysterious heir and more about Millie and her temporary nasty mistress Lady Eleanor is revealed. I disliked Lady Eleanor from the previous books but her selfish and cruelness was further revealed in this story she got better than she deserved in the end. Millie was a quiet one in the background being belittled and fell for David when she thought he was just a helpful footman. But Lady Eleanor is determine to trap him for herself. If only he had revealed the truth sooner it would have avoided some of the heartache but the tension did add to the drama.

This book brings it all together as we find out who the true Carshalton heir is and it came to be. The timelines between the previous books and this one were kept, and although they were mentioned, the author didn’t repeat those happenings, instead focusing on Millie and David’s love story. I loved how the author managed to stay true to the personalities of both Millie and David that were shown throughout the series while continuing to give them more depth in their story.

"No other woman could ever take Millie’s place in his heart."

So we end the series. I have to say, David and Millie were my favorite couple. Millie was so sweet and David was such a charming, likeable nobleman. While the conclusion of their story was known from the start to anyone who read the prior book, it was still fun to see the entire party from their point of view and to watch them fall in love. This entire series reminded me of the traditional regency romances I grew up with a bit of steamy spice.

This is the last story in this series. As much as I hate to see it end I know we must move on. I enjoyed all of the stories in this series, and especially this last one. I thought all the characters were wonderful and I wouldn’t mind seeing some of them in other stories. Now I need to decide which is the next series I need to read by Ms. Farmer. I would recommend this series to anybody who is interested in historical fiction, romance, and shenanigans.

The waiting is finally over and they were my first guess but then I started to doubt myself. Along with finding out who the heir was, we watch the attraction between David and Millie grow. The story is well written and entertaining. The series is worth reading, and with each story having their own unexpected romance. Happy reading.
