Fortune may favor the bold, but lately, it hasn’t favored Bree Faust.
Raised in the neon-lit embrace of Fortuna Casino & Resort, Bree is a twenty-two-year-old with more than a smattering of freckles and a sense of loyalty that runs deep. When change is thrust upon her again, she finds herself at a major crossroads and is torn between embracing her legacy as Lady Luck or drawing a card for a new life filled with unknowns.
Enter Vinh Lott, a twenty-nine-year-old with a fierce protective streak and a heart scarred by fire. A reserved software engineer moonlighting at his parents’ new restaurant, Vinh is the steady rock Bree never knew she needed. When fate brings them together in the chaos of the casino, Bree faces the biggest gamble of her life—trusting Vinh to be both her anchor and safe harbor in the greatest storm she has ever faced.
As obstacles loom, from Bree’s demanding grandmother, the return of an antagonistic former friend, and the temporary nature of Vinh’s stay on the coast, their love story unfolds against the glittering backdrop of a casino resort. Will Bree and Vinh beat the odds, or will they lose it all in the grand game of love?
Lane O’Neil’s debut novel is more than a romance; it’s a journey through abandonment, trust, and self-discovery. With heartwarming moments, an action-packed climax, and scorching-hot scenes, Lady Luck is a passionate read with laugh-out-loud moments that will make you believe in the magic of love, even in the eye of the storm.
Born, raised, and forever resident of Atlanta-ish, Georgia, Lane O’Neil loves crashing waves, characters who feel like friends, and soft blankets.
Lane rekindled her love of reading in 2021 after having her son and learning what "nap trapped" meant. That renewed spark eventually led to her to linking up with indie authors as an alpha and beta reader, which then spiraled into a crazy idea—one that had never once crossed her mind before….
What if she tried to write something?
Once her mortifying flashback to completing the writing portion of her SATs in 2009 was done, and she took a shower to wash off the nervous sweats, she opened a document and began writing.

I cannot even begin to explain to everyone seeing this how much you HAVE to read this book.
This is Lane O’Neil’s debut novel and she delivers on everything she promises. This is 100% as she describes it, a romance story within a women’s fiction novel. So, if you’re looking for a book with straight smut and nothing else, you will not find that here.
What you will find, is a beautifully painful experience of the main female character (Bree) as she comes to terms with the circumstances she’s lived with for so long because she knew nothing else. You will get to see the main male character (Vinh), come beside her and show her differently and help support her as she begins to realize and demand better for herself. You will get to see new friendships form and old friendships grow. And, you will get to experience our main characters get their happily ever after, but within the parameters of real life experience rather than the perfect fairy tale world that we tend to find in a typical romance novel. You will get to experience so many late 90s / early 2000s sitcom references that will give you life if you’re a millennial woman too!
This book includes representation of anxiety/panic attacks and trauma, but what I resonated with most was the representation of the people pleaser who makes choices based on other people’s needs and in order to keep the peace. I have been that way my entire life, and it felt so special to see myself in a character in my books.
I, honestly, could go on forever about the beauty of this book. It was very low angst in the romance portion, which was really needed with as much angst as there was in other parts of the lives in this story. The character development is so intricate with each character having so much of their own back story that you get just enough of to fall in love with each one and pray that Lane writes more books so you can learn more about everyone. It’s truly a beautiful story to experience, and I fully believe that everyone should read it.
I. Loved. This. Book. OH MY GOD. 😩 The romance is amazing - the slow burn, the fall, the experience. But can we talk about these platonic relationships, please? Because the friendships and Lott family dynamic are just MAGICAL. 😍 I want everyone to read this - you get a lil bit of everything; spice, emotion, feet-kicking giggling, anger, sadness, ALL OF IT.
I'm very sad LADY LUCK didn't work out for me but frankly I'm bored and had to let it sit for a bit and now I don't have any interest in picking it back up. On a personal note, the writing was also a little dramatic and flowery for me, but that's personal preference.
“But the greatest gift he had given me…was clarity.”
Words can’t begin to describe the emotions I felt while reading Lady Luck - Lane delivers an absolute masterpiece with this debut novel.
The setting is richly developed, plunging you straight into the world of Fortuna Casino and small town coastal charm. This honestly wasn’t a location I anticipated being into, but it’s written so well that it never feels small or one noted, but rather it’s endearing in a Gilmore Girls/Stars Hollow type of way. You come to adore all the side characters like Liem and Cody (or love to hate them, like AJ!) and each place has its own quirky personality, from Ari’s biscuit shop to Vinh’s house boat.
The narrative itself focuses on Bree and both her *no adjective is adequate here* romance with Vinh, but also her intense personal journey to finding independence as a woman. I really appreciated that this was not just another spicy romance that yields, as Lane so perfectly phrased it, “spice fatigue”. It was a deeply layered self-healing journey, exploring tough topics like family strain and mistrust, past trauma from injuries, and coming into your own as an adult despite other’s expectations.
The romance between Bree and Vinh was a sheer delight. Vinh is my new standard of book boyfriend. Seriously this man has it all, in a world full of dark romance Lane gives us a devastatingly perfect gentleman. He walks on the outside of the road to protect her from cars for goodness sake!! He shows us all what a man can be, and earns his attractiveness through the constant respect and devotion he shows Bree. This doesn’t mean there isn’t spice, and some of the most well written in my opinion, but honestly to me the most butterfly-inducing parts came from the careful build up and possibly the most perfect first kiss scene I’ve ever read. And don’t get me wrong, Vinh is hot in his own right - who knew cracking an egg one handed could be so…steamy.
I really reallllyy loved this book. And sincerely hope anyone who chooses to read it will find some bit of themselves here. Lane is now an auto-buy for me and I can’t wait to see what she gifts us with next!
{thank you to the author for the advanced copy, my opinions are my own}
“ My gaze snapped back to my — My? No. Not mine. I could not continue calling her that, even in my head. I knew nothing about this woman except that I wanted to know everything about her.”
• I feel like I have been waiting to get my hands on this ARC/Book for forever now! And I was NOT waiting to read it and NOT disappointed one bit, absolutely worth the wait. I couldn’t have been more captivated the whole time. Absolutely in love with the way the story wove and created a warmth in your belly. Of course there were sore spots too. But it was the complete balance.
• Bree and Vinh 🩶 such a beautiful story, I found myself with happy flutters and smiling so many times. Two people, whose pasts haunt them in different ways, collide. And end up going through some big changes.
• I couldn’t love either of the MCs more. She is an FMC of strength, she didn’t let her past or present, which was A LOT mind you, take her down. She definitely ends up finding her voice. And Vinh? The absolute best combination of thoughtful, gentle, and sexy. Talk about smolder. He struggles with his own demons but is so strong for her. The best of MMCs.
• I cannot say enough good things, all I can say is I absolutely recommend this one.
These two were absolutely Adorable and I loved them from the first time they met!! I loved watching their relationship grow and their support for each other was amazing.
This was emotional and sweet and fun!!
I loved liem and Cody and wanted to slap her grandmother yess I said that. Sorry but also not sorry she was mean.
I love that the side characters were just as fun and lovable as the main characters of the story!!
I can’t wait to see what is next for this group with Liem’s story.
Overall, this book was full of feelings, funny moments, relatable life situations, and amazing characters that felt like friends by the end of the book. Vinh is definitely a book boyfriend material! Generally speaking, I’m not a big fan of casinos, so I was a bit unsure when I first went into this book. However, I ended up loving little insights into casino life behind the scenes, more specifically, the main female character’s life in the casino environment and how she was affected by it. Great debut novel, and I would LOVE a book about Cody and Liem!
A cute little romance from the female gaze set in a south Louisiana costal beach town. Hard not to like! I was pleasantly surprised with Lane’s debut novel by how much I enjoyed this read. A bit on the nose at times but it’s definitely a fun, quick story. The main character’s desperate journey of self-realization is apparent from the start but it’s still a satisfying end when they finally come into their own. Will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from Lane.
This story is so sweet and heartwarming! Liem is a HOOT! My heart aches for Bree and Vinh’s pasts but warms for their healing journey and Bree’s found family. I am not kidding when I say I still think about this story and had dreams about this book. And being Lane O’Neil’s debut novel?! Are you kidding me?! Blown away!! Seriously! This book talks about self healing in such a beautiful way! One of my favorite parts of the book is that there’s no third act breakup! I think my heart would break if there was.
While a nice story, this book overall did not do much for me. I often found myself skimming through sections because while the overall plot was interesting, it seemed to drag.
Pieces felt unfinished, and I would have appreciated getting some answers (ex. FMC’s father, whatever happened with her grandmother and the house). Maybe some of this is explained in the second book, but it’s even longer than the first and I’m not captivated enough by the tale to continue on at this point.
It was a cute story. Loved the pictures they added on of the couple. They’re a cute couple and I like most of the characters. I didn’t like how long it felt and that I had to force myself to finish reading it. I was still interested but felt bored while reading.
4.5/5 rounded up since Goodreads wont just add half stars (insert eye roll here) 2-2.5/5 on the spice scale
Thank you so much to Lane O'Neil for the ARC copy of this book.
This contemporary romances takes place in a southern casino town in current day. I'll be honest in saying I'm not really a familiar with this kind of town so it take me a little bit to get into the setting while also working on connecting the dots on the characters, their personalities and how they all fit together. Once I became more familiar to the characters and understanding their world, I all the sudden became hooked and couldn't put it down.
I think the character building that Lane O'Neil accomplished in this novel is extraordinary. Each character, even the side characters, are so realistic where they have aspects that you love but also have flaws and demons they're trying to work through. They're willing to have the tough conversations (at least the characters that I LOVED) to show character growth through this storyline.
I had butterflies as I was rooting for Bree (FMC) and Vinh (MMC) as they got to know each other and their relationship evolved and was quite multi-faceted. I saw so much of a normal girl that I could relate to in Bree that I could see myself grabbing a coffee with her and inviting her to my bookclub. I loved Vinh's personality, his protectiveness, and his emotional maturity. He is one of my top book boyfriends and I couldn't get over his 'good mornings', so that may also have me a little jealous of Bree.
While the story doesn't take place over a long period (actually quite short), it didn't feel rushed or unrealistic. I loved the gradual steps of the relationships (both romantic and friendship) took. It made it so believable and I wished I could be part of this world.
The side characters are wonderful (or wonderful to hate). While there was one in particularly I wanted to punch in the face, most were a pleasure to read about and they added a nice depth to the storyline. They all MADE SENSE to be in the storyline which is a big thing for me.
The 80% conflict was also a pleasant surprise, not because I liked what happened (I actually was shook by it) but because it was unexpected, yet made total sense when you thought about all the moving parts of these interconnected relationships. Very well done!
Bravo to Lane O'Neil for writing this debut book that made me laugh out loud (Liem is incredible), scream and kick my feet in my air, and even tear up at an emotional section. I think this is definitely one stand alone I'll be reading again (and also that I wish could be turned into a movie). So excited for this to be out soon.
I can't believe this book isn't more hyped. It's a beautifully painful journey of self-discovery, love, and friendship. Oh, the friendships
The cover of this book is what initially drew me in—it’s so beautiful and unique.
The story follows Bree, as she navigates through her long-held struggles and starts to demand better for herself. "I was loyal to many people who existed only in rose-tinted memories."
Vinh, our MC, is the epitome of a perfect gentleman, showing that attractiveness comes from respect and devotion. His small gestures, like walking on the outside of the road to protect Bree , make him swoon-worthy. Their romance includes spice, but it’s the buildup and emotional connection that truly hits. The first kiss scene is possibly the most perfect I've ever read, and who knew cracking an egg one-handed could be so... damn hot? "May I say it another way?"
Vinh's support is unwavering, and their relationship is built on a foundation of genuine care and respect. Their romance is a slow burn, delightfully intricate, and refreshingly real—eschewing the perfect fairy tale for something deeply authentic. Honestly you'll never question the: How did they even get there? It is so effing real!
The setting of Fortuna Casino and the small coastal town is so vividly described that it becomes a character in its own right.
But the side characters, Liem and Cody... I don't even know where to begin. No, I know: I am begging, crying, and screaming for a book about Liem and Cody—I need them together! "If you're trying to put Liem on the spot, don't bother. He's never been there."
This book gave me all the feels, from joy and giggles to anger and sadness. Lane O’Neil has become an auto-buy author for me, and I eagerly await her next masterpiece. (Please let it be Liem and Cody, pretty please!)
But Lady Luck also addresses serious themes such as anxiety, trauma, and the struggles of a people pleaser who makes choices to keep the peace. As a people pleaser, seeing a character like Bree was incredibly validating.
Lady Luck is a beautiful story that everyone should read. I mean it. Go read it!
If i had to describe this book in a sentence, I would probably say: a warm hug that stays throughout the year.
not going to lie, i was talking to the author while i was reading the book, and a lot of things just had a greater impact when i understood them. the plot of the book moved at the perfect pace. literally perfect. like, getting that little curve when you put toothpaste on your toothbrush perfect.
it wasn’t too fast, and it wasn’t too slow, it was realistic and it made sense and it showed just how important the relationship was. which, in my opinion, was very very necessary. it had the awkwardness of a new relationship, and the gradual comfort that grows, and the final stage of being able to settle in with a person emotionally. it was all done literally so well.
the characters were amazing. their trauma was written well. their responses to situations were accurate and they didn’t seem too much or too less. their layers were done well, and i loved the way these layers were given attention, but it wasn’t the entire personality of the characters. i think that was really essential to read.
the characters individually were also so strong and so smart. they knew when to take charge, and when to stand up for themselves. they knew how to work with the environment instead of having that attitude of “i am who i am. you have to change.” because, in real life, people are not like that. everyone adjusts, and i loved to see every character adjusting because they loved one another and not because they were obligated to do so.
there was a certain mystery that was wrapped in the book, and i really enjoyed it. although, i do have a love-hate relationship with the ending. it reminds me of a holly jackson ending, to be honest. an ending that confirms a happy ending, but leaving it open ended so that we can work out the way we want it to end.
a lesson that i took from the author is that the best way to write real, genuine characters, is to put yourself in their shoes and then do what you would’ve done in that situation.
Will BRB to write my full review but first WOW!!! I love Bree and Vinh!! 🖤 ♥️♠️♦️♣️ Okay so I think I’ve finally got my thoughts together to be able to put everything down without spoiling it 🤞🏻 it’s so good and is a must read!
I will take 0 criticism on this book it’s AMAZING!
So first I have to thank Blake Black for this being brought to my attention because if not for her I wouldn’t have been able to ARC read this! This is Lane O’Neil’s debut book and this was amazing! I found myself drawn to the 90s nostalgia that we see mentioned throughout the book! Bree (or Lady Luck) is easily one of my favorite people in this book I love her, and watching (is it watching if we are reading it?) her grow into someone who accepts only what she deserves! Vinh is amazing and sweet and just loves to take care of people and wants to be there for everyone, so of course he is the perfect person for Bree! Even though he has his own things to work through and figure out! Liem is Vinh’s brother and between him and Cody it’s a tie for my favorite side character!! They are both hilarious and amazing ♥️ I won’t lie though I see a lot of my personality in Liem so I may be a little biased 🤣 Barbara Ann Copeland gave me nightmares 🤣 probably because I can so easily picture her!
I NEED this on my shelf! It’s amazing and emotional and with the Hurt/Comfort trope that I’m obsessed with lately! Through in some slow burn, Gulf Coast casino vibes it’s amazing! ♥️♠️♦️♣️ TLDR: this was a really good book I loved it from the prologue to the end! The Character development was amazing we see Bree grow and stop putting up with less than what she deserves, Vinh while having his own things to work through is a character that is perfect for Bree and someone who only wants to help! It’s amazing and emotional and with the Hurt/Comfort trope that I’m obsessed with lately! Through in some slow burn, Gulf Coast casino vibes it’s amazing!
Tropes: Slow burn Complicated family dynamics Mental health rep Dual POVs
Summary: Lady Luck takes place in a small town casino called Fortuna. 22 year old Bree Faust grew up at this casino due to living with her grandmother who has a gambling addiction. She now works at Fortuna, doing odd jobs around the casino because of the foundation she was forced to build and now, where her loyalties lie. 29 year old Vinh Lott, an introverted software engineer, enters her life and becomes her rock and guides her towards greater and better things. They were lucky enough to find each other in a casino of all places, but will their luck be enough to beat the odds or will they gamble away lose everything in the process?
My thoughts: I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading this, but I was more than pleasantly surprised! In this contemporary romance, you follow Bree into almost a coming-of-age part of her life. Her demanding grandmother makes her think that the casino is all she’ll have and needs in her life until Vinh comes along and shows her otherwise. Their dynamic is so well written. Right away, he’s protecting her (we love a protective king) and immediately falls for her first. Vinh is a perfect gentleman that compliments Bree. Their spicy scenes are spicin’ alright lol.
Along with the romance and spice, I adored the way anxiety, panic attacks and trauma. All the characters are so multi-dimensional, especially Bree with putting everyone’s needs and wants before hers. O’Neil also puts in so much detail in such a small town that I almost forgot that this was taken place in a small Mississippi town. Also loved how she developed even the side characters (I would literally die for Liem).
LOVED this book and recommend it to anyone who’s a sucker for a small town romance with well rounded characters!
I love that this book starts out with a little moment back in time for the prologue. It was such a cute glimpse into one of the main characters and side characters that I couldn't imagine going without now.
Bree has essentially grown up in the casino life from even before she officially went to live with her grandmother. And that only became a bigger part of her life when her grandmother won big in the casino. Bree went on to become Lady Luck and follow in her mother's footsteps as a persona and symbol of the Casino. Her relationship with her grandmother is definitely not ideal.
After the betrayal of her childhood friend turned crush, Bree is left in a rough place emotionally. When her best friend Cody takes a job away from town, it sort of forces her back into the world around her she's been avoiding. Then the endearing Liem comes along and it's like a new meant-to-be instant friendship. His charming older brother, Vinh, is a huge added bonus.
The connection between Bree and Vinh is oh so good. It felt like they really brought out the best in each other. They helped each other grow and open up in their own ways. He definitely falls first, while she is reluctant to get burned again. It's such a sweet romance that had me swooning and giggling at so many great sweet moments. Love Bree and Vinh... and Liem and Cody and the Lott parents.
Such a good story! I loved the main characters and the side characters - which I totally want to see more of btw. This debut novel is a must-read for sure. Just ah! So good!
I am floored. I read this book without even knowing anything about it and I am so glad I did. This is an amazing debut novel by Lane O'Neil.
Bree, the FMC, has pretty much lived her life at the Fortuna Casino in Mississippi with her grandmother. When she was younger, she was staying with her grandmother at the casino and would go to the arcade with her friend AJ. Her grandmother and Mr. Dez (employee) set up a "date" for her and his son, Cody. They hit it off right away and became brst friends. It became the best and worst day with her ending up having to stay with her grandmother because her father left.
Years later at 22, Bree is still at Fortuna and pretty much under her grandmother's thumb. She still has Cody in her life but he leaves to be on a cruise ship with his boyfriend. Bree ends up meeting Liem and Vinh while working at Fortuna. Liem is instantly friendship material for Bree. The friendship between Bree, Cody, and Liem is so good. Love the sude characters. The Lott brothers (Vinh and Liem) are such good brothers and their relationship with their parents is funny and sweet.
Vinh has seen Bree without her knowing and instantly falls for her. Vinh is the perfect MMC with no toxic traits at all. There is some past trauma and anxiety in this book and it is beautifully written. Both characters have suffered from trauma. Bree and Vinh together are perfection and become a comfort for each other.
So much happens in this debut novel and you need to read it to find out. Beautiful book. Thank you Lane for this book.
I am still in shock that this is Lane’s debut novel, I am absolutely in love with this story and especially Bree’s two best friends Liem and Cody they are the type of people you need in your life.
This story is beautiful it is really easy to connect with these characters as the older sibling I connect with Vinh with wanting to make sure everyone is safe and taken care of. I also connect with Bree on being a people pleaser as someone that has grown up in the south there are those unspoken rules for the way a woman should behave in the eyes of the older generation.
The family dynamic of the Lott family is one of my favorites they are not perfect but they are so loving and it is the type of family you want to be apart of. Liem Vinh’s brother and Bree’s new best friend will have you laughing till your sides hurt he is so amazing I need more of him and Bree’s other best friend Cody they are both so outspoken and just amazing.
This story has so many elements you will learn more about the each character before the relationship builds and it makes it so much sweeter. I loved the way it ended it does have an HEA, but it also leaves the story open for more of Vinh and Bree or the side characters.
I cannot wait to see what is next from Lane, I know it will be an automatic read.
~~What to Expect~~ 🎰 Hurt/Comfort 🎰He Falls First 🎰Best Friend’s Brother 🎰 Found Family 🎰 Casino Town 🎰Swoon/Cry/Laugh 🎰Slow Burn 🎰 Representation (Panic Attack/Anxiety) 🎰90s References
~~Quotes~~ 🍳 Bravery didn’t have room to breathe in a place where betrayal was suffocating. 🍳I think the only way we can be truly safe is with someone we love and trust watching our backs.
Ok, I can barely believe this is the 1st book for Lane. Like how is your book baby this good??? This book will take you on a swirling magical ride full of emotions, yet deeply set in a very authentically realistic way. The vivid imagery of the world itself, as well as the fantastic characters, was some of the best that I’ve read. You will truly feel like you are immersed in the story to the point that you will almost swear you feel that Gulf Coast breeze. Bree was a beautifully written FMC that truly grew into her own throughout the book. The growth was almost tangible, and so very relatable. Vinh was simply everything you could want in a MMC. He was flawed, yet his protectiveness towards Bree was just swoon worthy on so many levels. Add in some side characters with personalities that are definitely worthy of their own stories, yet didn’t overpower the main characters, (I’m looking at you Liem & Cody 👀😝), and you have a set up for more beautifully written books to look forward to. While I can’t say that everything was tied up neatly with a nice little bow, I can say that after that crazy & unexpected ending, I was more than satisfied with how things went down for Bree & Vinh. I can’t say enough wonderful things about each & every aspect of this book, except to say that you don’t want to miss out on the start of this author’s writing journey. You’re gonna want to say you’ve been there from the beginning…trust me ❤️
10/10 would recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Buy it now, and get ready to be swept up in a heartwarming tale of love, friendship, and self-discovery.
The cast of characters is top notch. I seriously loved them all (except the ones you're not supposed to like, but even those I loved to hate!). The author does such a fantastic job of making the characters not only relatable, but easy to know. Throughout the story, I felt like I was making a whole group of new friends and family. There is such a cozy and homey feel to the book, simply through the characters.
The setting of the book is perfect too. A coastal town on the Gulf, where most of the story takes place in either a casino resort or a cozy houseboat? Yes, please!!!
And then, of course, there's the beautiful story itself. As the book unfolds, you get to know Bree, a people-pleaser who has been hurt and abandoned too many times. It was empowering to watch her take charge of her life and get it back on track. You get to see her go from tip-toeing around those who she continues to remain loyal to despite the fact that they treat her terribly, to putting them all in their place (respectfully, of course) and creating a new life just for herself.
Along the way, she meets Vinh, and the way their love story pans out is just *chef's kiss*. Vinh is exactly who Bree needs - a calm and stable presence during a tumultuous time. You get to watch him deal with his own demons and baggage as well, while helping to give Bree the confidence and sense of self-worth she needs and deserves.
I loved that there was no big drama between Bree and Vinh. There is plenty of other drama and conflict happening in Bree's life, so it was nice for her to have something in her life that was so rock solid to rely on.
Though the story does come to a conclusion, I'm holding out hope that there will be more installments so I can spend some more time with my new Lady Luck friends and family! We could all use a best friend like Liem or Cody, or a family unit like the Lotts. I just KNOW there is more story to be told.
Bree isn't one that enjoys the life style of how she grew up. The saving grace from having to grow up in the casino life, was her best friend Cody. If it hadn't been for him, she likely would have dreaded every aspect of her life. Being around the casino wasn't where she felt like she belonged.
Her grandmother and her didn't have the best relationship, not that her grandmother wanted to work on that relationship. She used Bree as a good luck charm or bargaining chip. Bree didn't want to get on her bad side, which made her keep her feelings locked up.
Meeting Liem had been a total chance encounter, one that would bring another close friend into her life. When she meets his older brother, Vinh she is intrigued by the broodier Lott brother. She finds herself wanting to get to know him better.
Vinh came to the coast to help out after his father's major surgery. The plan had never been to stay on the coast. He had wanted to go back home. That is, until he met her. Everything he had thought he wanted before meeting her, got tossed out the window. Suddenly, being on the coast wasn't as bad as he originally thought.
Lady Luck is one of the rare six star reads, but it absolutely deserves that extra star. It was so so good, and I need more!
Bree Faust has spent much of her life walking on eggshells, so as not to set off her grandmother. Raised in and around Fortuna Resort & Casino, this is the world she has known for the last 11 years. she spends her days working odd jobs, much to the disappointment of Grandmother, who wants her to step up and step into the role of Lady Luck, and fulfill her mother’s legacy. Bree’s best friend Cody understands her best, but he’s about to head out on a cruise with his boyfriend, and Bree’s anxiety is beginning to take it’s toll.
Along come Liem and Vinh Lott, and her world is forever changed. They take her under their wing, one who she describes as a “gay fairy godmother,” and the other who she begins to fall for. Together they help build her up, give her a soft place to land, and love her for who she is. Better yet, they do not abandon her, which is a recurring theme in her life.
Lady Luck is a love story, but it’s also the story of how strong Bree is. She’s dealt with so much adversity in her 22 years, so much loss, but she hasn’t lost the ability to enjoy life, and to care deeply for others. She cares so much for her friends and loved ones. Despite how much she’s been hurt, how many times she’s been abandoned, especially by those who should love her unconditionally.
What an amazing debut by Lane O’Neil. I loved this book.
It is a slow burn, heartwarming and emotional read. Loved how the main characters dealt with their pain and trauma together. So much understanding, support and compassion with each other. This felt so much like a real relationship. It did not have the unrealistic drama many fictional relationships often do, and I loved that 🫶🏻
Vinh was an incredible MMC. Loved his protectiveness and patience towards Bree, and letting her figure out how to handle her trauma in the best way possible. They were very supportive and understanding with each other, and loved how the trust built throughout the book. I loved their character growth.
Liem is my favorite person, absolutely adored him 🥹 Bree’s relationship with Vinh and Liem’s parents were so nice to see. I loved how she helped their dad feel a bit better and finding his way back to life with only one leg.
The ending was shocking 😮
Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this world and its characters 😍
Oof did this book take me back. I actually grew up vacationing at the MS Gulf Coast at the casino this book was partially based off of. Because of that, vibes alone were super nostalgic for me. But this story! I adore Bree so much for her resilience. So much was thrown her way and eventually, she stepped out of her people pleaser role and started to live her life for her. This book dealt with some complicated family dynamics and it was done so well. Vihn is such a heart throb. He was so patient and kind to Bree. Their love story felt extremely real and believable. There was a true build up to it which I appreciated. I won't lie, Lane has me frothing at the mouth for Cody and Liem's story. I love, love, love the characters that are quirky and jump off the page. That was Liem for me. This was a wonderfully written debut novel with a love story wrapped into it. It is more than that though. It's a journey about finding yourself, your voice, and realizing that blood relation shouldn't dictate how someone treats you. I can't wait to read more from Lane.
OMGGGGG This book was genuinely so damn cozy and warm, I wanted it to never end!! The characters were AMAZING, I instantly fell in love with each and every one of them.
I also really love how trauma and healing are explored in this through Bree and Vinhs personal stories. Bree is such a strong character and reading her journey and growth was so much fun!! Vinh melted my heart MY GOD he is so perfect??! He was so mysterious and serious at first and him unraveling into this romantic and loving bf took me OUT. Having a taste of what his personal life is like with his family was such a perfect touch to his character. Liem and Cody instantly became top favorites for me, especially my boy Liem!! I’m 10000% team Liem and Cody and the entire time reading I wanted them to have a NOW KISS moment so badly. Also Dezi??? We need to know more about them!!
The second half of this book…I was fighting for my life? I’ve never flipped through pages faster?! It definitely was a roller coaster of emotions for me and I loved every minute!

Lady Luck, A fitting title for this book since once you complete it, you will think to yourself, “wow, how lucky am I to have read that.”
A book filled with self discovery which will make you stop and reflect, a book of love that will make your heart warm, a book of emotions that will certainly leave you with all the feels so I suggest a tissue or two. And finally, a book of friendship that will leave you wanting to treasure those closest to you.
It’s a slow burn but that slow burn makes you feel all the emotions that is described as if you are a character yourself in this book.
The depth of characters in this book is truely refreshing and is one of the many things that really draws you in while reading.
One of THE BEST books I’ve read this year and shoutout to the amazing Blake Black who got me on to this book, I’ll forever be thankful. I’ll certainly be recommending this book to all my book girlies, well done Lane, take a bow.
I was lucky enough to read an ARC of Lady Luck. I have been anticipating this book for over a month and it was well worth the wait. It’s a hell of a debut novel.
Bree Faust, our FMC, is the type of character that you just want to wrap your arms around and pull in for the longest hug. She’s bright, witty, and extremely reliable. Vinh Lott, our MMC, is what you might call a Therapy King. He’s strong, with a dreamy voice, and is the man none of us, including Bree, knew we needed. While this is a slow burn, the characters’ admiration for each other happens almost at first sight.
Some of my favorite tropes that this story includes are: Age gap Found family Mental health rep LGBTQ+ rep Angst, tension, and spice
If you’re looking for contemporary romance within a women’s fiction that will keep you on your toes, look no further. Lady Luck is what you’re looking for.
