The Consequences of Falling

Rate this book
Navigating grief and personal struggles has never been easy; doing so alongside falling in love is just asking for heartache.

Haunted by his trauma, Atlas Hale is a recluse, who seeks solace in silence, navigating through life with a stone-cold expression to guard against any emotional intrusion. Shrouded by the pain of his past, Atlas has steadfastly sworn off relationships altogether. He walks a solitary path where connections are avoided to prevent the risk of further heartache. He's content in his isolation, or at least, he thought he was until he met her.

Nova Hawkins, a lifelong dreamer, faces a profound shift when grief shadows her world after her mother's death. Hardly grappling with her new reality, the pain only intensifies when Nova receives a poignant reminder—a bucket list and letters from her deceased mother. Realizing she isn't healed enough to complete them alone, she stumbles upon a solution to her problem on the anniversary of her mother's death.

Atlas has his own traumas to figure out, and the last thing that he needs is a companion. He knows that allowing Nova into his already crumbling life is a recipe for disaster. But what happens when the pair find themselves gaining far more than they garnered? Can their love endure, or will the weight of their pasts be insurmountable? Can their love withstand the fall?

Falling in love is a leap of faith, a journey into the unknown without guarantees of what may lie ahead. And if you're lucky enough to find someone who loves you back, the art of falling in love becomes a masterpiece, an expression of the deepest and purest form of human connection.

This book felt like a warm hug. It's so cosy and poetic, I felt completely enamoured by this story and was so captivated by the atmosphere the author created. It's escapism at its finest. It was as if I was in my own little bubble while reading it, wandering through the universe, finding a home between the moon and the stars.

He thinks he'll love her even then -even in the thereafter.

Nova and Atlas captured my heart, they're both so enchanting, in different ways, and it was so beautiful to follow their journey of falling in love. They're both a little broken, but in each other's arms they found a safe place to rest their minds and comfort their hearts. It was so lovely and magical.

"You are a wren bird," he answers with ease. "Small, but you're big- you are known in all the ways that count, Nova. You love purely, loudly. You've suffered through loss and pain, but yet, still smile."

ੈ✩‧₊˚ Nova shines bright like a star. There was something so special about her, such a light that surrounded her at all times, despite the grief that threatened to consume her if she would only allow it.

Atlas Hale wears his melancholy akin to a second skin; he is clothed in it. Each step seems tethered to an overarching cloud of darkness that cloaks his very form. His pain drenches him and shrouds him in resemblance to a looming thunderstorm.

ੈ✩‧₊˚ Atlas is such a grump, but one of those you can't help but love. It honestly broke my heart how he felt like he didn't deserve love and kept pushing people away, but whenever he was around Nova, there was a lightness to him. He became happier, looked beyond the pain and saw the beauty of life.

They fell in love so beautifully. It was a meeting of souls, something that transcends the physical plan. I'd say they're soul mates, destined to be together.

They're two souls wandering, searching for a place to call home, and somewhere along the way they had found it among each other.

I just wish the book was longer, so I could've spent more time getting to know the characters and seeing more of their relationship. They fell in love very quickly, even if they don't admit it right away, and even though I'd say it's a bit of a slow-burn romance, I wished it had been a bit slower.

The side characters were so lovely. And the town also felt like a character to me, it was so alive. Like I said, this book is so atmospheric and I loved how autumnal it felt, it made me want to live inside of it.

The writing is absolutely stunning. It’s not just beautiful, it's full of meaning and there's a lot of depth behind the words. And I loved all the astronomical references, I've always been fascinated by the universe, the moon and the stars, so I found it all so beautiful.

The moon is a friend for the lonely and the brokenhearted. Beneath the light, under the overarching moon, there is a small, minuscule moment of reprieve. The fears and sadness that wrench her disappears for a moment.

This book is for the hopeless romantics, the ones who dare to dream of a love that is all consuming, a love that makes them feel safe and a little less alone in the world. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have read this before its release date and I'm looking forward to the next books in the series.

For those who yearn for the pure simplicity of love.
For those who dream of gazing up at the stars, lost in a never-ending moment of longing. This is for those who crave love, above all else.

I read this while listening to the author's playlist and it made my reading experience so much better. It was truly magical.

2★ | For once, happiness lasts for more than a few days.

The idea that I had of The Consequences of Falling as a story and a book in my head (based on all those lovely quote posts and reels, and the title itself) was very different than the book itself. So, let's just say that my disappointment due to the expectations I had from this book (which btw, weren’t that high) is partly the result of my low rating for it.

Why you might like it
It is a lovely book for almost any hopeless romantic out there, and for the ones who love freaking out over Taylor Swift references in books, esp. those who love folklore; that album really is sprinkled throughout this book. If you like a light romance book once in a while and like getting lost in thoughts about an idea of something such as love, pain, stars, and hope, I think you might really enjoy this book!

I loved the mood and the vibes in this book but I couldn’t enjoy it based on that alone. I needed more than that. And I didn't get that here.

the book and characters
Nova Hawkins is the sun her clouds of grief won't let her shine through, but when she meets Atlas content-in-his-isolation Hale, he notices her light. He shies away from it, of course; he thinks a life in the dark and the shadows is what he deserves. And while losing her mother hasn't been easy for Nova, she sees him through her grief as well.

A guy who keeps disappearing and a girl who continues to put effort into making him stay or come back. Finally, Nova decides to straight up ask him to join her as she goes through the bucket list, offering him a chance to view the world as she does, and Atlas agrees. This is how they start spending more time together, slowly getting to know one another, and fall.

⚠️ Why I didn’t like it ⚠️

The art of falling in love is in the little moments, the stolen glances, the gentle touch of a hand. It’s in how your heart flutters when you hear their voice and how their laughter fills you with a warmth that spreads through your entire being. It requires vulnerability, the courage to open yourself up entirely to another person, knowing they have the power to break your heart, but trusting that they won’t.

Those lines sound lovely, don't they? I couldn't imagine how intense things were going to be. Here's what I can tell you now that I've read it, not very intense at all. It's a typical story with I don't know how many versions of it out there in the world and while the author certainly tried to make it pretty, there wasn't anything new in it, and the worst part was how much depth it lacked. Just one of those ‘more told than shown’ books. (I ought to emphasize "to me!" because I don't think I've seen anyone else say so)

Falling in love is a leap of faith, ... despite the risks, falling in love is one of the most beautiful experiences that life has ever had to offer. It’s a journey that will test, challenge, and change you in ways you never thought possible.

I mean, am I the only one who expected more from this book after reading such quotes? Well, I, for one, couldn't find a single moment in this book where falling in love challenged or changed either of the characters in any way. In fact, I didn't see how the book delivered ‘the act or the consequences of falling’ in love at all. Maybe that's just me, but I hope that explains why this book ended up not being for me at all. Atlas and Nova seemed like really interesting characters but after finishing the book, I just know there wasn't anything about their individual characters or them as a ship that stood out to me or made me feel anything. And if you know me, you know that if I can't connect to or find something worthwhile in the characters, then it's likely I won't enjoy the book very much either.

Again, the book has some very lovely ideas in it, but it lacks depth, and for me, it didn't deliver all that it was hyped up to be.

ps: I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!

***

I don't want to give any more hints (or talk spoilers) about this book than the author has already given through all those lovely aesthetic quote posts right now, but you might hear from me about it after the release date.

Happy reading, y'all!

So, the author wasn't kidding about the whole “if you like Folklore by Taylor Swift, you might like this book” thing😅

Updated review - 2nd time reading TCOF

I will never get tired of saying how much I love The Consequences of Falling, everything about this book is so special to me. It's still a 5 star, I would give it 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 stars if I had the chance.

I fell in love with Nova and Atlas... again! Both of them are so different but the same in so different ways. It's incredible how the author captured the essense of these characters and how they're shown to the world. It doesn't feel like we're just reading 'another' book, it almost feels like we're listening to an older person talking about their love story. It all feels so magical and cosy, while feeling raw and realistic.

This time around, I felt like I enjoyed so much more of the tiny details that went into the writing and plot. I took my time with the places they went to, as if I was there, also enjoying the moment.

I really loved to see the side characters, my love for them only grew. I admire how close they're to each other, how they're always there, how they care, everything.

And no surprise when I tell you that the writing got me from the very first moment. Liliana's writing it's so beautiful, theres so much depth to every idea she works on.

I can't wait for book 2 on Sailor Ridge Series! Wishing all the best to Liliana, can't wait to see you turning to be a big author, you have everything on your way to be <3

1st review:

Thank you to Liliana Rose Hastings for giving me the opportunity to be a beta reader in exchange for an honest review.

The Consequences of Falling brings the reader into the world of Sailor Ridge, a new contemporary romance series, to be released on February 26, 2024. In the first book, The Consequences of Falling, we meet Nova and Atlas.

When I started reading "The Consequences of Falling", I couldn't deny the instant love I felt for each of the main characters, the places that I got to know and the topics they talked about. The truth is that the love only grew, I couldn't get enough of Nova and Atlas and each new chapter I read, brought me instant happiness.

The characters are so well written, you get to know what makes them happy and sad, their flaws and perfections, what they think about each other and the world.

These characters felt raw and real!

It doesn't feel like we're just reading letters on pages, it is as if we know them in real life, almost as if we're a side character and we're admiring both Nova and Atlas falling in love with each other and navigating through the consequences of it.

One of the topics that touched me the most throughout this book was the astrology. As a reader, you will also get to know a little bit more about this universe, since Nova is an astrology lover. On the other hand, you will also be faced with hard times, as Atlas is going through some past traumas.

The truth is that you will find yourself facing the consequences of falling, for the characters and for the book as a whole. The quotes you will find in this book will have you kicking your feet in the air and giggling, but keep in mind that there will be some more serious scenes, which I found completely necessary because the character development in the end is- wow!

TCOF is one of my favourite books of 2023 and I can't wait for it to be released and for readers to pick it up. Huge thank you again to Liliana (Ana) for giving me the opportunity to read this incredible book and I just want to add that I wish you all of the best! You're an amazing person, author and friend, may the stars guide you to new opportunities and adventures!

~

Let's not forget how TCOF was the first book where I had the privilege of being a beta reader and it brought another love of mine into the book world. Being able to be close to an author and understand how much work they dedicate into every single thing made me appreciate authors even more, as well as it made me more excited to hear the new ideas and give my opinion on them and discuss it.

First of all, the writing. I fell in love with it. Fairytale like, naive and simply beautiful.

When you combine the writing with Nova’s personality, it amplifies so much more, and makes you feel like floating in a way.

Nova and Atlas are both dealing with different kinds of trauma but feelings are similar regardless of the causes of their pain. They are both lost. They are both lonely. Their lonelinesses are different kinds. Nova is dealing with a loneliness that comes from loosing her mother and she feels lost even though she is surrounded with great friends. She can’t share that loneliness with them. Atlas, on the other hand, has been carrying his loneliness since he was born more or less. His loneliness is different than Nova’s, more bone deep, like a permanent feature of his life. And the way he accepts it simply, as if it was always supposed to be like that for him, is the most heartbreaking to say the least.

I love both of them for different things. But together, they are dream-like. Just how the book made me feel like the whole time.

It is the slowest burn on the outside yet they fall for each other secretly pretty fast in my opinion. I loved the fact Nova never hides her interest, initiates most interaction because you go and get what you want girl! Even if you feel broken inside. I admire her braveness, a huge contrast to how she is portrayed delicate and fragile most times.

Atlas is more reserved and it took him long time to open up, which I love because it makes so much sense once you learn his past, and if we had him otherwise it would have taken away most of his personality. He has thick, castle like walls for a very good reason and yet he slowly drops them down for Nova. It is the best feeling to watch him go through those phases, back and forths. Also love that cheeky side of him, just flustering Nova and disappearing with a single word! Now that’s an extravagant exit.

Nova’s ever ending blabbing about the stars and galaxies was so cute and seeing her so passionate about something that she can’t help herself is the best feature of her personality! Her girl squad with Sienna and Indie is one of the best things in the book! And Damian of course! ;) I love their dynamics as a group eventually.

As I said, I LOVED the writing style, the descriptions, the intricate details and the interconnecting details throughout the book, the in between chapters were really exquisite and elegant. The atmospheres were captured so well that I felt like I was walking through their small town and having a coffee with them mostly. The pull and push between Nova and Atlas, their undeniable chemistry and tension were all pouring out. Most of all, the feelings of them, so raw and real, the grief of a mother lost and grief of a family lost, in total different senses, which I am trying so hard not to spoil, but both of them were grieving for different things, yet the same. They were both trying to find their way, the pain of being at the start of your life no matter how shitty or good upbringing you had, the struggle of finding your place and worth in life and falling in love while trying to find yourself and love yourself, trying to heal yourself through that love and your found family. A lot of feelings. And all captured beautifully, raw.

PS: I have had a chance to read BETA version, and create visuals for the book, both of which I enjoyed a lot! Thank you Ana for giving me a chance to read your work in advance and the opportunity to create for them!

PPS: The playlist Ana prepared for the book made me feel the reading experience 100 times more, it is a beautiful one, I highly recommend listening while reading!

PPPS: I can’t wait to read it again once it comes out

since we're less than 10 days away from this beautiful debut's release, it's about time i shared my thoughts on it. firstly, i want to thank liliana for choosing me to be a part of the beta reader team ! i've had so much fun in this journey with you, i'm so proud of how this book turned out, and cannot wait to see the magic you stir up in your future books 🥹🫶🏻

this book is literally love personified. i don't think i've read any book that has encapsulated the feeling of falling in love as accurately and beautifully as this one. which brings me to my next point, it is for all the fans of AWYITE who love descriptive and immersive writing, even at times pretentious (in a good way) and sad characters who have big feelings. Liliana has a talent in enveloping the reader into the story to the point where you actually feel like you're watching it unfold irl.

the main characters, Atlas and Nova, were both very uniquely written and also well developed. i loved watching both of them heal from things they had a hard time talking about. i loved how they found comfort and camaraderie in one another's company. their friendship was so wholesome even before they fell in love. their shared interests and cute little places are everything to me. they had such thought provoking conversations and actually got to know one another before hopping into anything which i loved.

as for their romance, the intimacy of being understood and actually loving someone for who they are was something i admired about their relationship. they described one another with barely any lust driven intentions while still maintaining some of that tension we all know and love. it wasn't excessively sexual and i've found that it's rare to find that in romance books nowadays.

my only complaint was that i wish it was longer. i absolutely love liliana's writing and her characters so much that i wish we saw them spend even more time together. i cannot wait to read the stories of the side characters in this cute little town. go pre-order your copy rn you will not regret it and i'm not even being biased i promise.

Thank you to Liliana Rose Hastings for blessing me with an arc of her debut novel in exchange for an honest review.

– 3.25☆

It’s really hard to process that this is in fact a debut novel. Liliana’s writing was otherworldly. Absolutely beautiful. This is a book for the poetry people, because it reads less like a romance novel and more like a long poem. More a story about love, than a love story.
Loved the small town setting and the autumn vibes alongside the cosy words of Hastings. It really set the scene wonderfully.

This story talks about more than just love though. It talks about grief. It talks about the demons we sometimes tend to hide.
Atlas was a grumpy guy at the beginning (okay maybe at the end too). His story, his mind… It was a lot. Nova, too, had a lot going on for her. Grieving the loss of her mother. Hastings puts it all so beautifully.

“Grief is a friend, a haunting, laughing, and taunting friend.”

It was a beautiful and quick read. Perhaps too quick. Perhaps the story needed more pages, more words. Everything felt a little too superficial. Hastings could’ve gone deeper, could’ve showed and learned us more.

The story between Atlas and Nova could’ve also used a few more chapters. There are some time jumps, and they do kind of suck the magic out of it a little bit. They fall in love almost instantly (or so it seems because of how it’s written). How did Atlas go from saying no more than “mmh” to her, to being utterly and completely in love with her? The ship should’ve sailed a bit slower. The slowburn should’ve started burning more carefully.

However, these people are beautiful. Their story is beautiful. There’s something devastatingly pure about two broken people finding some sort of “completeness”, some sort of “wholeness” within each other.

Loved.
Can’t wait to read more of Liliana’s work in the future, as this is only the beginning of her writing career. I’m sure of it.

‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾☆ 3.5 stars ☆☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙

With a lyrically poetic debut, author Liliana Hastings embraces the most broken parts of our beings before mending them together again with her beautiful prose.

“They’re two souls wandering, searching for a place to call home, and somewhere along the way they had found it among each other.”

Before I begin, I want to express that I truly am in awe of the caliber of writing. To write a book itself, let alone one that captures the mere essence of being alive is an accomplishment to be proud of. Considering this is her debut novel, it’s clear that Liliana’s storytelling will only grow stronger with age.

“But you, Nova Hawkins, have somehow managed to exemplify the heavens. If there is a God, which there must be, then I think he lives so deep within you that his love shines from you and out into the world.”

Nova Hawkins, our angelic female protagonist, still reeling from the loss of her mother, exudes the radiance of the sun. Bearing the motions of grief, she exemplifies the true meaning of perseverance.

“Atlas Hale reminds Nova of Pluto - misunderstood, a bit cold, sort of icy, but even in his insignificance, he stands out among others.”

With sidelong glances and one-word phrases, our male protagonist Atlas Hale is as broody as they come. With a muddied past, Archer uses distance as a way to garner the control he’s yearned for his entire life. He is the moon in its earliest stages. I will admit, our impression of him between the two introductory chapters gave me whiplash. He came across as a troubled soul with a longing to be seen before then turning into a pompous stranger with a mindset rooted only in doom and gloom. I couldn’t understand why he went from conversing politely with Nova under the cover of night to suddenly perceiving her as an enemy with her rose-colored glasses.

“There was no before him. There would be no after him. There was oblivion-a moment between before and after-a moment between what she believed to be serenity and damnation.”

While I could see the length of this story luring lots of readers in, it doesn’t allot much time for Nova and Atlas to experience both triumphs and trials in their relationship. Much like others, I feel as though the bond between both characters seemed rushed therefore leading to it becoming disingenuous. I wanted to root for the pair, but it was made impossible by their lack of conflict. They didn’t ascend anything outside of themselves. I most definitely don’t want to discount the grief they both endured, but there was no turmoil between them. It made me ponder whether they will last past this moment in time.

As for the setting, lurking in the shadows of Washington, Sailor Ridge is a town as whimsical as they come. All of the places we encounter seemed to be named after people, both past and present. While I’m impartial to this particular quirk, I truly believe it could’ve been used to a greater extent to achieve that endearing quality we long for in quaint, small-towns.

Despite the setting, I was missing a lot of those community connections. Our supporting characters, even despite them being just that, were sparse, making me question their importance.

As for the plot, it seemed to be lacking in exchange for character knowledge. I say this instead of development because there seemed to be extensive gaps between both Nova and Atlas’ personal and relational growth. It seemed as though they occurred overnight, away from the eye of the reader.

Between Nova’s bucket list, supporting character Rowan’s interest in her, and both her and Atlas’ individual family histories, there didn’t seem to be a sole conflict. In the next novel, I’d love to see author commit to at least one storyline with as much depth as our characters.

Thank you to Liliana for trusting me with Atlas and Nova’s story. All thoughts are my own and are in no way influenced by early access to this title.

"The art of falling in love is in the little moments, the stolen glances, the gentle touch of a hand."

This book is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read and genuinely feels like a warm hug from folklore and gilmore girls. It is one for the hopeless romantics and the taygracie girlies, and the stars hollow stans.

The only way I can describe the prose in this is that it is ethereal and made me feel as though I was floating. When combined with Nova and Atlas' story, I am speechless.

They're both lonely and dealing with loss, albeit in different ways. Whilst Nova is surrounded by a multitude of friends and people, she feels as though she is alone in the world, lost without her mother there to guide her. On the other hand, Atlas is a lone soul, whose loss feels more integrated within him. He believes he can only ever be his parents' child and perhaps that is the most heartbreaking of all.

Their relationship with each other was so beautiful: from the moment they met, to their conversations under the stars to the way they dealt with their grief, every moment of their story was perfect. The development of their friendship was heartwarming to read about as Nova's optimism squeezed through the small chinks in Atlas' armour that he would put up around himself. And how this blossomed into a point in their friendship where they both began to lean on one another for comfort and solace in the pain and dark tunnel. And how then this turned into them defining themselves as Nova and Atlas, Atlas and Nova - nothing more, nothing less, always there at each other's worst and always there at each other's best.

Honorary mention to the girl squad (Nova, Indie, Sienna)!! They are literally so>> and I loved seeing their friendship and how much they were there for Nova. Shoutout also to that scene with Atlas and Robert (iykyk). When I tell you I was giggling-

The chapter titles, the prose, the playlists, the friendships, the romance, the autumn-y vibe, the folklore evermore aesthetic, the feeling as though I was walking through the town with a cup of coffee, the way grief was explored, the interlude chapters, the rawness- It was so unbelievably perfect and exceeded my expectations.

My only gripe is that this book wasn't longer :( I would've loved to spend more time with Nova and Atlas but alas I shall just wait for more atlasnova crumbs in upcoming books <3

Small town romance The Consequences of Falling by Liliana Rose Hastings centers on Atlas Hale and Nova Hawkins.

I always look for emotional depth in books, romance or otherwise, and Liliana did a fantastic job of capturing the love and pain of her characters. Everything in this book, from the writing to the emotions, was there!

I adored Atlas from beginning to end. He was just the ideal book boyfriend. Every time he spent time with Nova, he would always ask Nova to tell him about the stars, and it was such a wholesome moment. Also, Nova being so patient with Atlas was so heart-warming.

The only thing that did start to become frustrating, though, was when Nova kept calling Atlas "the man," making him appear older than he actually was. Also, Atlas and Nova's relationship ended up developing so quickly that it seemed like one moment they were just friends, the next they were kissing and dating.

This novel is about so much more than just romance; it's about friendships, heartbreak, and the process of moving on from your past.

*Thank you to the author Liliana Rose Hastings, for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*

This book was written with tears and whimsy, stars and sorrow, pain and love. The emotions penned within the pages were immensely deep and palpable. They were the kind that could only have been written by someone who has experienced similar heartbreak, sorrow, and eventual healing.

The slow journey to falling in love was so poetically beautiful. Atlas & Nova—two souls likened, bound by grief and their yearning for more—two stars, intertwined in a sea of stars. They tried to deny their feelings, but they had already fallen deeper than they’d ever dreamed possible. Now and forever, they were Atlas & Nova—Nova & Atlas—never to suffer another bad day alone.

Having been written in third-person present tense—the same as Night Circus—this book had a most unique feel to it. Night Circus is one of my favorite books so the similar writing style contributed to me enjoying this book as much as I did. This particular narrative style gives a story a certain poetic and whimsical feel that sets a very moody atmosphere for the plot.

✑ THE CONSEQUENCES OF FALLING
rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ stars (4) loved it!
note: atlas and nova deserve their own galaxy

A small-town romance featuring a stellar romance story you cannot miss.

I have to be honest, I feared that the page count and the jumps in time throughout the book would fall short, but the author was able to capture the story and romance of Nova and Atlas perfectly, to the point that you don’t even need one more word (it will leave you wanting more, of course, but that just shows how good Liliana did writing this story).

Atlas and Nova’s romance was so unique, two lost souls meeting each other and finding the light and warmth within each other that they could not find anywhere else. I particularly loved Atlas’ development and seeing him slowly open to Nova throughout the book, but any moment between the two of them was magical. Also, a bit random, but: the town. Can I please move there?

The writing is absolutely magical, so lyrical and heartwarming. I lost count of the many quotes I reread because I couldn’t let go of them so soon. Liliana has such a way of describing, from surroundings to moments and feelings, that just hit the right spot while being undoubtedly stunning. You’ll see me reading anything of hers she releases out there.

Finally, I had so much fun trying to guess which (if some) characters would get their own book next… there was so much potential, and I really want to see more of the found family that surrounded both Atlas and Nova.

Absolutely recommend this book for all those hopeless romantics out there, and those who are able to find beauty within the pain. Thank you, Liliana, for giving me the chance to read this book in advance of its release. I had the best time with Nova and Atlas, and I cannot wait to see them again.

For those who yearn for the pure simplicity of love. For those who dream of gazing up at the stars, lost in a never-ending moment of longing. This is for those who crave love, above all else."

This book feels like a cold breeze on a fall afternoon, it's conforting but it may sting sometimes.

At first, it was not the easiest for me to get into this book due to some of the topics, some that touched me deeply, and I had to pace myself to feel confortable enough to read this book.

The writing was beautiful from the beginning. I was imediatly drawn to the authors story, because it was so poetic and majestic.

Nova is a young woman with a lot of grief, and totally obssessed with the cosmos and stars and life just beyond all the bad things, and I relalted to her a lot and it was one of the reasons why the beginning was hard for me, because I just saw myself in her, all her feelings ans questions, and I loved seeing the world through her eyes.

"Sometimes, Nova wishes to be a star. As naive as the thought is, there are times, much like this, when Nova hopes that for a second, she could remove herself from reality and become a looming celestial being."

Atlas was a bit hard for me to get into. He was definetly a misterious man, broken inside but, just like he got more confortable with Nova, we also got him to be more himself, and I got to know him, the way he saw the world diferently than Nova, the way he was scared and tried to get away, but as soon as he had eyes on Nova, he was drawn to her, and he just couldn't let her go.

"I want to show you the starts, Atlas."
"Could you be any more ominous?"
"No, I mean-the world. I remember you saying that you couldn't understand how I saw the world in the ways that I did-so I decided to show you."

The art of them falling in love was so simple, and yet so much went through both of them during this process. Because one thing I got from this book is that falling in love is sudden, and scary, and sometimes you are not ready for that to happen, or you are not really sure how that can happen, but when you know you know, and sometimes, maybe due to fate or because the starts aligned, you et someone that will just get you, and life starts having meaning again.

To Nova, the moon is infinite.(...) And and infinity with Nova dosen't seem so bad.

I also want to thank the author, Liliana, for the opportunity to read this before it came out! Lots of love to her 💗

A beautifully written book for the hopeless romantics trying to find their place in the world 🤎

Trust me when I say I’ve never read a book quite like this one. Admittedly, it took me a minute to get used to the poetic style of the writing, but once I did I was utterly consumed! The story and writing itself was absolutely beautiful and so unique, I’ll never get over it — every word, interlude, chapter title, etc. served a purpose, and I never stopped wanting more.

It took almost no time to fall in love with Nova & Atlas. They have this unexplainable soulmate energy with such a deep and meaningful connection that goes beyond the surface. I can’t even express how precious they were, and I just want to protect them at all costs.

Nova & Atlas are no strangers to hurting, and the role of pain manifests very differently in their lives by comparison. But they so naturally and effortlessly become what the other person needs at just the right moments. Everyone deserves a friend like them and to experience love in its purest form like they do — they were truly written in the stars 💫

This was such an amazing debut novel! The world isn’t ready for Liliana’s stunning writing, and I can’t wait for people to experience it for themselves. If you want a book that’s Folklore-coded inside and out, this is definitely the book for you 🤍

Thank you so much to Liliana Rose Hastings for an ARC of this book! 💌

Full review coming this week!

Okay, here is my review after sitting on my thoughts for a few days!
_______________

“The art of falling in love is in the little moments, the stolen glances, the gentle touch of a hand. It’s in how your heart flutters when you hear their voice and how their laughter fills you with a warmth that spreads through your entire being. It requires vulnerability, the courage to open yourself up entirely to another person, knowing they have the power to break your heart, but trusting that they won’t.”

The Consequences of Falling is far more than a romance — it’s a story about grief, trauma, and the feeling of falling in love. Reading this made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside, like I was drinking a cup of hot cocoa and could feel it warming me up with every sip. It was a warm hug and comforting in a sense that it felt so raw and real. TCOF perfectly captures the feeling of falling in love, with all of the fears, hopes, and “what-ifs.” The writing throughout the entire novel was so beautifully crafted, poetic in a way, with meaning and intention behind every word.

I fell in love with Atlas and Nova the second I met them 🥹 Both of them are navigating paths through grief and trauma, and watching them fall in love felt like I was watching my own friends in a way. These characters are personified and characterized incredibly well and it was quite a journey to read about them. I don’t want to give much away, but I just adore Nova!!! The relationship she built with Atlas truthfully had me tearing up every other page. My heart felt like it was leaping out of my chest.

I think anyone will fall absolutely head over heels for this story if you love:
☁️ Small town romances
☁️ Cozy, emotional, yet hopeful books
☁️ Mutual pining
☁️ Strangers to friends to lovers

The Consequences of Falling is a fantastic debut and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to read an arc of it in exchange for an honest review. This will definitely be in my top reads of this year. Thank you so much again Liliana. I’m so looking forward to what you write in the future 🫶🏼

The Consequences of Falling releases February 26th! 🤍

thank you to the author for the arc!

"The moon is a friend for the lonely and the brokenhearted."
this might just have been the most beautiful piece of writing i've ever read?? this book is unlike anything i've read before, it focuses a lot on the descriptions and creating an atmosphere that makes me want to drink tea in bed and love autumn (i'm a cold seasons hater sorry not sorry). i have more highlights in this book than probably all the books i have in my apple books app combined. the formatting of the book is also amazing, the titles, playlist, and little things like that make me so happy as a reader!!

"I fear I am completely mesmerized by you."
the characters, nova and atlas, are so well written and i love them so much <3 reading about their journeys and their interactions made me so emotional. although the book is very short, their romance came so easily and was not rushed at all, which is probably very hard to write yet the author did it!!!

the only thing that felt a little lacking was the ending for me. i liked the way it ended but it also felt a little empty yk?? i wanted a lot more of nova and atlas but i do understand why the author wanted it to end that way. also, i think it's because i'm not used to the writing that i read through this book very slowly compared to reading other romances. i don't really think it's a bad thing though as i got to savour every word the author wrote. and on that topic, i CANNOT wait for book 2 and literally anything liliana writes <33

Thank you so much Liliana for the e-arc in exchange of an honest review.

I *cannot* believe this is a debut novel. It's so magnificently written, it feels like a warm hug, a big cup of tea and a long discussion with someone you love more than anything.

Firstly, I want to thank Liliana for providing me with an e-arc of her novel in exchange for an honest review.

This little book about love and grief pleasantly surprised me. The more I read, the more I became attached to these characters, their sorrows and joys. The story draws you in, gradually revealing intricacies that deeply influence the emotions of the two protagonists. Sailor Ridge is such a lovingly written setting, and I could often picture myself walking the streets or having a bite to eat at Margot’s Café.

This is a wonderful debut novel, though the occasional scene could have perhaps been more refined. Maybe more focus on the development between Atlas and Nova would have been beneficial for the overall plot rather than dwelling on abstracts. Sometimes the Taylor Swift references were pushed a bit too much for me, though I love the Folklore album it could have been a bit less in the forefront. This book felt like a Gilmore Girls story in a folklore-coded town, so if you like those two things and are not averse to over-descriptive writing I'd recommend it. Overall I enjoyed this book, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Liliana's storytelling grows and evolves in her upcoming novels.

This book is for those who love whimsical, abstract writing. For people who adore cozy autumnal towns and astrology. I also recommend listening to Ana's beautifully curated playlist to enhance the reading experience.

5⭐️ - Thank you so much to the author, Liliana Rose Hastings, for giving me the opportunity to be an arc reader for her book!

The Consequences of Falling is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read that I truly struggle to find the right words to describe how much this book means to me. This book is the embodiment of true love. It is a shimmering star in a world of darkness. It’s one of the most breathtakingly, beautiful books that I’ve ever had a pleasure of reading. Such a masterpiece that I felt bad for even reading it.

I’m not usually one who enjoys contemporary romances. I tend to find that they lack complexity in plot and setting compared to fantasy so I tend to stay away from them. But this book… This was such a complex and stunning novel. The setting was so beautifully described and so aesthetic that I wish I lived there. The characters were unique and broken and beautiful, much like real people. Nothing about the characters lives were perfect and yet that’s what made this read perfect. Because this is real life. People struggle and they hurt others and they get hurt but if you hope and look towards something brighter everything will be okay.

The romance between Atlas and Nova was so beautiful to read about. Watching them grow and change and yet stay the same with each other was lovely. Their relationship is everything I want for myself and more. Words can’t describe how obsessed I am with all the characters in this book.

I loved the author’s beautiful writing and unique descriptions. As someone who’s had her fair share of obsessing over the stars and moon and space in general I found this book to be so amazing. I appreciate the author’s pacing and shorter chapters for this book. I never felt bored or felt like it was dragging on. I really enjoyed the unique dual pov where it kinda switched between the characters in each chapter. I found it to be very well written and made so much sense for the story. Just the way this whole book was written was lovely, I’ve never read anything quite like it with the pov changes and the interludes etc. I really enjoyed it and hope to find more books written in a format like this in the future. Honestly I think this book deserves an award. I think it should be considered a classic one day.

Overall, this was such a beautiful and amazing read that I 100% recommend. I can’t wait for book 2!

Once again thank you so much to the author for trusting me with your beautiful novel.

When I started this book, I didn’t expect to love it thus much. The fact it’s written in third pov, just makes me so happy because I don’t see it often and personally think it’s the best kind. Initially from the title, I thought it was going to be your typical romance book but this was way more than I assumed.

This book follows Nova and Atlas who individually have their own struggles and meet each other to help and find comfort within each other. It sounds so plain but it really was so special to read. They’re both so alike and different at the same time that together it was a perfect match. Atlas is cold and he’s very much an introvert than Nova. He really gave off “I hate everyone but you” vibes so much and I truly was so in love with him. He’s hot and I love how interesting he was and also funny at times which made him so much better. Nova is a sweetheart, I loved her for being so honest and also so genuine. Normally it’s easy to get annoyed of characters like her but that was not the case. She was intelligent and emotionally aware which was incredible. She really does deserve the world.

The mental health awareness was so done well in this book and being a victim of it myself, I found to relate to this book and themes so much, It made me feel good. I loved how both these characters helped each other. The references to the stars and sky was so interesting and honestly wasn’t like any other as it’s quite popular in books. Their relationship became something so beautiful and I loved that they broke down barriers and trusted their gut with each other. Their journeys were amazing!!

The only reason this book isn’t getting five stars because it truly is worthy of it, however I am a little picky, is because I did want to see more of them with their problems but that did fit the book a lot, however ai wanted to see more of Atlas and his story. I truly will not forget this book!! Such an incredible debut, this author knows how to write do damn good and I can’t wait for more!!!

“There was no before, there simply was. There was Atlas, and there was Nova, and that was enough.”

Where do I start?
Ever since the first teaser of this story, I've felt something strong, beautiful, magical. I fell in love with the author's writing. For a debut novel, the quality of her prose is immaculate. It was like words that float in space and wonder like shooting stars in the sky.

Nova and Atlas. Atlas and Nova. Their names alone foreshadowed a unique story, one that defies time and the storms of life. A slow burn, closed door love story.

Nova really moved me, in the way she lived and dealt with her grief. This girl who continues to smile every day, only to be overwhelmed once in a while by her mother's grief and loss. Atlas was an enigmatic and mysterious character. But above all, a boy who was never loved by those who should love him. And who found it hard to believe in the unconditional love of those who chose to stay with him.

Reading this book, it's like being wrapped up in a blanket by a fireplace. Cozy and warm. Melancholy and nostalgia. Perfection. The perfect combination of love, astronomy and poetry, made in heaven.

Thank you again Liliana for this ARC. I can't wait to see your story shine like it deserves when it comes out on February 26. And continue to follow the Sailor Ridge characters in your future books, obviously.

This was such a cozy, soft romance. I was aw-ing every other scene because of how cute Nova and Atlas are. The writing was *chefs kiss* — I felt all the feels. The emotions Nova and Atlas experience ran so deep that it was difficult not to feel for them. I felt their grief and pain and the entire time I just wanted to give them both a big big big big hug!

I loved Atlas Hale, and Nova was an absolute sweetheart. These two main characters were beautifully written.

Although I overall loved it, I felt a bit unfulfilled about the ending. I loved their romance, but it almost felt like from one chapter to the next they were in love. I would’ve liked to see more of an evolution and battle of emotions. Especially after there was a whole rule made that Nova wasn’t suppose to fall in love with Atlas. It’s not that the story is rushed, I just feel like perhaps a little more length would’ve allowed for an exploration of what Nova and Atlas were feeling as they began to realize they were falling for each other.

Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review! ❤️

Congratulations to Liliana on the release of her debut novel - a huge thank you to Liliana for trusting me with her work and sending me an arc for honest reviewing.

Sadly, this one was not for me. I felt as though the characters were written a little too young for me, in both the way they interact with one another and some of their actions. I didn't love the dialogue, they talk a lot about personal things, but it's done in a way that's not mature enough for me personally - it seemed as though they depended on each other in a way that is not entirely healthy. This form of writing style was very new to me, in that it was written very formally, using plenty of poetic forms in the place of actual narration. I have learned that this writing style is not something that I enjoy, at times it sounded a bit pretentious.

I'm interested in seeing how Liliana's writing style progresses throughout her future works, I'd definitely be willing to try another title from her!

i would like to thank liliana for giving me the opportunity to beta-read her book!

nova and atlas are characters i’ve grown to love and appreciate. both have gone through so much in their lives, and seeing them come to confide in each other, falling in love, warms my heart.

the writing of this story was spectacular. i loved how liliana described each setting the story presents and the characteristics of each character. my favorite especially is how she depicts the characters remembering small details of one another.

i truly felt immersed in the world of the consequences of falling, as if i was there by the characters, side by side. i cannot wait for everyone to pick up this book on release day! you won’t be disappointed!
