When Matt O’Connell returns to Pine Ridge, he’s not the same man he was when he left. Years in the US Army Special Forces have forged his mind and body into lethal weapons.
Beneath the skills and formidable exterior, Matt’s soul remains intact—for now. He’s at a crossroads, and he’s hoping that spending time around the men who helped shape him as a teen can help him with the choices he now faces.
His mother’s new neighbor is an intriguing distraction. She’s young and beautiful and completely uninterested in him, which makes even harder to stay away. Especially when his finely honed instincts insist there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye.
And then there’s the spark she's unintentionally ignited in his chest. The one he never expected to feel.

But is it real? Or just what he really wants?
Home Team Advantage is a small town, contemporary romantic suspense stand-alone novel featuring Matt O’Connell. Matt originally appeared in Having Faith as the 14-year-old son of single mom Faith. Now he’s all grown up and returning home after ten years in the Army special forces. Fans of the Callaghan Brothers will see plenty of familiar faces and places, but it is not necessary to read those books to enjoy this one.
Jake’s Irish Pub hadn’t changed much since the last time he’d been there, but that was the way it was with buildings that were hundreds of years old. It was still warm and welcoming, a popular gathering spot for generations of the predominantly Irish community. It didn’t matter what day of the week it was; the place did good business.
“Hey, Matt,” greeted Taryn, Jake’s wife, when he walked in. She hadn’t changed much either. Her blonde hair had a few streaks of white, which looked pretty badass with her black heavy metal T-shirt and the slim leather cuffs she wore around her wrists.
Her unusual violet eyes widened when she got a good look at him. She whistled softly. “Wow. You look … different.”
He did, compared to the last time she’d seen him. He grinned. “And you haven’t changed a bit.”
“Liar,” she said, but she was grinning, too, and the momentary surprise turned to mischief. “You know, if I were twenty years younger—”
“You’d still be singularly obsessed with Jake,” Ian finished with a smile, appearing from the back with a case of longnecks.
“True,” she agreed, winking at Matt. “It is fun to make him blush though.” Him? Blush? He’d lost that ability a long time ago. “Not cool, Aunt Tar. Where is Uncle Jake anyway?”
“Taking care of some business,” Ian said vaguely. He pulled the Macallan from the top shelf and poured two fingers each into two glasses.
“You remembered,” Matt said.
Ian scoffed. “Of course I remembered. A good bartender always remembers, and I am a most excellent bartender.”
Taryn rolled her eyes.
Ian lifted his glass and clinked it to Matt’s. “Welcome home. Sláinte.”
“Sláinte.”
The smooth whiskey slid down his throat like warm silk.
Matt asked about their kids. Ian’s son, Patrick, was the oldest of the next generation with Taryn’s daughter, Riley, right behind him. Both were finishing college. He got updates on their other kids as well while Ian and Taryn took turns serving people at the bar.
Ian’s eyes kept shifting to two men sitting at a table. Matt followed his gaze.
“Are you expecting trouble or something?” Matt asked quietly.
“Or something,” Ian murmured. “See that guy in the blue shirt? He’s with the PRPD.”
The guy looked like a cop. Close-cropped hair, permanent frown, the soft paunch of a guy who spent a lot of time behind a desk.
“So?”
“So, he likes to supplement his income from time to time by moonlighting as a PI under the table. He uses his badge to obtain information that’s not readily accessible to the general public.”
“Sounds shady.”
“It is. But he’s not a bad option if you’re looking for information on the QT and want to stay under the radar. You know, catching cheating spouses, surveillance, background checks, locating hidden assets, that kind of thing.”
Matt sipped his whiskey. Catching a little under the table side action for profit was in the realm of morally gray, but it wasn’t unusual. “Who’s the guy with him?”
“Eddie Campbell.”
“Elsa Campbell’s grandson?” Matt asked, looking closer.
The guy looked like he’d been through some rough times since Matt had last seen him, but, yeah, it was him.
“The one and the same. You know him?”
“We’ve met. I didn’t think he lived around here.”
“He didn’t. Moved into the area about a year ago from somewhere out west. Last I heard, he was working for one of the real estate offices in town.”
“Any idea why he’s meeting with a PI?” Ian shook his head.
“I bet I do.”
Matt filled Ian in on his visit to his neighbor and the new live-in helper.
“Makes sense,” Ian said. “Girl shows up out of nowhere and throws a wrench into his plans; he’s got to have questions.”
He wasn’t the only one. “How good is the PI?”
“Slightly above amateur, I suppose.”
“Not as good as you though.”
“Not even close.” Ian narrowed his eyes. “You want me to look into the girl, don’t you? See if she’s scamming the old woman?”
Matt shrugged. “Or you could give me access to your systems for a couple of hours.”
Ian laughed. Hard. Then, he realized Matt wasn’t laughing along with him. “Oh, you’re serious? No way, man. That’s like handing a loaded Glock to a toddler. But I will run a few searches and let you know what I find. What’s her name?”
“Anna.”
Ian made a circular motion with his hand. “Yeah, got that. Last name?”
Matt blinked. He didn’t know. “She didn’t give one.”
“Know where’s she’s from?”
“No.”
Ian exhaled heavily. “Anna, from anywhere. That narrows it down. Do you know anything about her that I can use?”
Not yet, but he would. Matt pulled his phone out of his pocket and held it up to him. “I’ve got her picture.”
“Yeah, because that’s not creepy at all,” Ian murmured and pulled out his own phone. “Okay, drop it here. I’ll see what I can do. If nothing else, I can make sure she’s not on any Most Wanted or No Fly lists.”
You don't have to read the Callaghan series before reading this book (although it is a GREAT series!) but I would at minimum read his Mom Faith's story-Having Faith. You meet Matt in that story as a teen and it gives you more of his backstory and how hard his Mom and him and struggled. I am so excited that now we get Matt's story!! I absolutely loved this story!! I am always hopeful when an author writes a story for a character that I have loved, and this one in no way disappointed! Matt is a man of such strength and courage, but you also get to see him struggle with decisions he has to make in his life. Anna, this woman has been through things that I could never imagine having to go through. And then it just gets worse in ways that I wasn't expecting. But she never gives up. She has this will to not only live, but to survive. No matter what. And throughout everything, she has never lost her capacity for caring about others. These two are perfect for each other in ways that I wasn't expecting, but it works in such ways that you can't help but love it. I don't think anyone else could have understood Matt's past or life in special forces other than her. I also don't think that anyone else would understand his need to continue helping people the way that she does. But I also love that Matt is really the only one who can understand what she went through. And how much it truly cost her. They just get each other, and it was perfectly imperfect. I loved being able to see the Callaghan's again. I loved that they continue to watch over those they call family, even without them knowing about it. I also love that no matter how old they get, their need to help and keep other's safe has never changed. I know there is more coming in that world, and I honestly can't wait! And I am hopeful that we will get a story for a certain family member of Anna's!
‘Home Team Advantage’ by Abbie Zanders is part of a multi-author series ‘The Long Road Home’ that follows several military folks who are at a crossroad and trying to determine what comes next. This story is about Matt and Anna who are both hiding some really big things from everyone. Matt is Faith’s son and Kieran Callaghan’s step-son who is back in Pine Ridge to recover from an injury and to decide if he wants to leave Special Forces for a new role that would mean leaving his family. Anna is new to town and is very secretive and closed-off. Their relationship is a very slow burn with Anna fighting the whole way and Matt not really sure if he wants more than to uncover her secrets. The Callaghans brothers are aware of the choice Matt is facing and offer some advice and ultimately alternatives. If you have read any of the Callaghan books, you know about their special organization and about croies so you won’t be surprised by how the story ends. Anna is working for Mrs. Campbell whose grandson wants to put her in assisted living, but Anna’s presence has stymied his efforts. The Callaghans are helping Matt figure out Anna’s story - they even reach out to friends at Sanctuary. When Mrs. Campbell is injured, Anna is arrested. Her arrest puts her in danger from her past and she will need all the help she can get from the Callaghan Clan and the good people at Sanctuary to survive. I am a huge fan of Abbie Zanders’ books and this story left me wanting to read more in this series and a little sorry to see what appears to be an end of the stories about Pine Ridge - at least until the next generation is ready for their stories. I got this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review. I strongly recommend this book or really anything by this author.
Re-visiting Pine Ridge and the Callaghans is always going to be a win in my book especially when combined with Long Road Home and Sanctuary. Matt O’Connell followed the Callaghans into the military but choose the Army Special Forces rather than Navy. His years in spec ops have changed him and he is returning home on the cusp of a life changing decision. Passing through Atlanta on his way home Blessing’s words of wisdom make no sense. Anna Black came to Pine Ridge for a job but after her car and cash reserves are stolen on her way there finds the job is no longer hers and her money almost exhausted. Fate, kismet or pure luck put her in the path of an elderly neighbour of Matt’s Mother. Matt is instantly intrigued by Anna and she becomes a mystery he feels compelled to solve as he remembers Blessing’s cryptic words. Anna has her secrets, is she a genuine elderly care giver or are her motives much more sinister, her seeming disinterest in Matt also fuels his desire to get to know her better and uncover her secrets. Anna agonises that the attraction she feels for Matt can’t come to anything, her past must remain a secret to keep her and her loved ones safe but is it already too late for her heart? Matt too also starts to realise what his heart wants. Anna’s past rears it’s head and puts her in danger, can Matt and his family use their skills to find her in time to give them a chance at the future they deserve. A wonderful story of fate, choices, family and second chances at love and life. Loved the man Matt has become and the glimpse into the next generation! I received an arc from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Matt O’Connell is home in Pine Ridge for 6 months to set his affairs in order. Anna Black went to Pine Ridge to start a new job at a retirement community. When her plans fall apart, another opportunity arises to work for Mrs. Campbell as an elder care provider. Both Matt and Anna realize that each is not what they are portrayed to be. Matt enlists the help of his father and Uncles, The Callaghan Crew to find out more about Anna. The more Matt and Anna get to know each other, the more they like each other, but there is just something that is not adding up in both their minds. When items go missing and people are beginning to be affected Matt and his relatives realize there is foul play afoot and time is of the essence before someone is injured or dies. Matt must decide whether what he feels for Anna is just an attraction to her looks or is she really his “croie” the love of his life he has heard discussed in his family most of his life. Anna must decide if she is safe to stay in one place for the rest of her life. What a great addition to The Long Road Home series!! It was so fun visiting Pine Ridge and the Callaghan family and friends especially seeing the interaction of Matt with his mom, Faith, and step-dad Kieran. I loved Mrs. Campbell; she was so witty and smart. The mystery was interesting with just enough angst. Abbie Zanders created the perfect book for this series!
Trying to find words to describe my feelings about Matt and Anna's story is difficult. The beautifully written words are woven seamlessly into an intriguing tapestry printed with kindness, caring, fear, love and so much more. Anna is on the run and feels like she can never be settled and like she can never have love or anything close to a real life. Matt is at a crossroads and is having a hard time truly letting go. If he takes the road less traveled he will have to leave his deeply rooted family behind. They have an immediate chemistry and connection that neither wants to explore for their own reasons but mostly out of a sort of fear. I love that their fate won't let them slip out of its grip. The suspense keeps me on yhe edge waiting to see what happens next and how Matt and the family will rally to save the day. I love Ms. Campbell and Faith and Keiran and all the uncles and family. I don't want the story to end. Is it possible we might get a book about Anna's brother Luca? Maybe she can reconnect with him in some form. I also look forward to Matt's sister getting a book of her own when she grows up more. It will be interesting to see what kind of hero she attracts because I just know she will be able to kick some major bad boy butt, being who she is and what family begat her. I could go on all day about how I enjoy Matt and Anna and how I want so much more of them. I am so happy to have received an advance copy and love that I can share my feelings here.
I have come to love this author, the multi-author series, The Long Road Home, asa well as the author’s Callaghan Brothers and Sanctuary series . This story brings them all together majestically. Matt O’Connell is home on leave . This might be his final visit if all goes as planned. Anna Black is new in town. She was suppose to start a job at a senior center but things don’t go as planned since she arrives late because her car was stolen with all her belongings. Her late arrival has her losing her new job, and leaving her with little money. Thankfully, she manages to find work with the neighbor of Matt’s mom. When these two meet, the attraction is instant, but Matt feels Anna is keeping secrets, and Anna knows she can’t allow her past to be discovered. Will these two realize they are meant to be together? Will danger threaten Anna and those she has come to love ? Will Matt realize that Anna might be his future ? Lastly, will Blessing, who has appeared with wise words in each of the Long Road Home stories, be right about her cryptic message ? This was a story about family, new beginnings, and second chances in life and love. It’s also a reminder that life is not black and white but rather shades of gray. Definite a wonderful story worth your time. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
At the Atlanta USO, Matt O'Connell, a special forces Army soldier,is going home for 6 months with a huge decision to make. He is so torn . Meeting the USO hostess, Blessing, she advises him that people frequently hide who they really are behind " carefully crafted exteriors". Matt is uncertain what the hostess means and waits on his flight. Anna Black, an LPN with specialty in elder care, has lost her job due to circumstances beyond her control. She unexpectedly overheard a discussion with older friends in a diner. She offers her abilities and is hired. However, Elsa Campbell's grandson strongly dislikes her; desiring that his grandmother to receive care in an assisted care facility. Anna and Matt meet on his arrival back home on a visit to see his grandmotherly neighbor, Elsa. Matt suspects that Anna is not all she appears. Then he remembers Blessing's message. What is Anna hiding? Is she behind Else's problems? What is she tracking at the library? Will Matt and Anna tell their secrets? How will his uncles help him make his decision? Can they help him solve the secret of Anna? Read the next Long Road Home story by Annie Zanders that will reunite you with the Callaghan and Sanctuary. It is a great read filled with unexpected turns and twists.
Matt returns home after an injury, using the time not only to recover but to reflect on his future. Nearing the end of his military service, he’s offered a chance to join the special forces—a role that would require him to disappear entirely and cut off contact with his family. While at home, he notices that his mother has a new neighbor, Anna. She appears to be the caregiver for the elderly woman next door, but Matt senses she’s hiding something. His curiosity turns into an obsession, and he becomes determined to uncover her secret—unaware that Anna isn’t the villain he assumes her to be.
Under the guise of flirting, Matt gets closer to Anna to gather information. Eventually, he realizes he’s fallen in love with her and decides to protect her from the shadows of her past.
I’m honestly torn about this book. It isn’t bad, but Matt’s constant suspicion of Anna left me baffled. She’s portrayed as nothing but kind and considerate. Even if she is keeping secrets, it doesn’t feel like he has any right to pry into her life the way he does. What’s more jarring is how quickly his feelings flip—suddenly he’s completely in love and all-in, and this transformation happens within just a few pages. There’s also no real fallout: Anna doesn’t seem angry or hurt that he’s been digging into her past, which makes the emotional resolution feel rushed and unearned.
Home Team Advantage is another stellar addition to the multi-author Long Road Home Series. Happily, Abbie Zanders takes us back to the Callaghans, the Sanctuary crew, Pine Ridge and some of its denizens. After reading this book I strongly suspect that we'll be getting new stories about the lives and loves of the Callaghan's next generation. I loved every word.
Matt O'Connell is at a crossroads in his life and is subject to a definite timeline. One last trip home to reconnect with family and friends is what he needs. For Anna Black serendipity seems to played its hand and gives her something much more than she anticipated. What's the old saying? When one door closes another opens. Just when she thinks all is lost hecause of bad timing she's suddenly a caregiver/companion of a feisty 97 year old who is a shameless matchmaker, meets a drop dead gorgeous hunk of a man and is surrounded by warm and friendly people. The spark is there between Matt and Anna but both have their secrets so they're slow to act on the attraction. Mix in some a conniving relative, a rogue cop, a bit of the Chicago mafia, some surprise family revelations and you've got a excellent page turner of a romantic suspense story.
We first met Matt in Keiran and Faith's book Having Faith. You knew he was going to grow up and do great things. We meet up with Matt again as he is at a crossroad. He has to decide if he takes the Special Forces offer to go on ultra deep missions where he would never see his family or retire. He has come home thinking he has six months to wrap things up before heading back to his new assignment.
Anna has secrets and is on her way to a new job. On her way, her car is stolen with everything she owns. She finds herself at an IHOP ready to apply but finds herself at her dream job working for Elsa Campbell as her live in aide.
Anna now lives next door to Matt's family. He is very suspicious of her motives and she is weary of him. She needs to keep her secrets safe.
This is a wonderful story. Matt is trying to fit in as much with his family while trying to figure out Anna's secrets. Can Matt keep Anna and his heart safe?
I loved coming back to Pine Ridge, seeing the Callaghans again and falling in love with Matt and Anna! I definitely recommend this book!
What can I say other than this one hit it out of the ballpark. The last time we saw Matt he was still a young teenager making sure his Mom is okay and getting a new Dad, Kieran Callaghan. Now we meet the grownup Matt who has an encounter with our friend Blessing at the Atlanta USO. As usual Blessing brings Matt to the library where he encounters 4 others that are given sage advice. . Anna came to Pine Grove to accept a job but due to car difficulties they give her job to another. They both meet after she gets a job with Mrs Kline as a home health care worker. Anna seems reluctant to share information on her life. This of course causes some to question her reason for being in Pine Grove. The intrigue Abbie takes us on a ride that you won’t want to miss. The growing both Matt and Anna do over the course of the story is amazing. Yes all of our favorite Callaghans make an appearance as well as folks from Sanctuary. The conclusion of this book brings us full circle on how Anna and Matt eventually find what they are both looking for.
Matt may not be a Callaghan by birth but as an honorary Callaghan he knows all about croies, he just never thought he would have one. He is already fighting his heart and his head when Anna disappears, but he then discovers the Callaghan secret that changes everything.....including some hard truths about his own job, you know, the "top secret" one nobody knows about! Everything changes on a dime and suddenly settling down with his croie is the only future he wants. I love that we get Matt's story, when I remember back to the kid he was when they first arrived in town, then look at the man he has become.....the Callaghan's did good! I cannot wait for the second generation of Callaghan's, there will be some explosive moments to come, as I am sure that although the brothers say they are ready to take a step back, actually taking that step back will not be easy! As always it was lovely to catch Blessing with her cryptic comments, huge heart and secret smile.
So enjoyed the story about Matt O’Connell and Anna Black! Loved how these stories are tied together by Blessing, the Atlanta airport, the USO and these writers who compliment each other very well with their stories. Matt has some decisions to make about his career and comes home to either settle up or settle out of the Army. He never imagines that his family has had his back even when his team and superiors did not. Anna is constantly on the move, job from job, state to state when she lands in Pine Ridge and there is pursued by intrigue, danger and crooked cops. Thankfully, Matt and his family are there for them and help them realize they are true soulmates! In true Abbie Zanders weaving of stories, this one slowly wraps around you and feels like a warm blanket on a cool night. Abbie Zanders this story had me reading late into the night and immediately diving back in for a reread. Phenomenal story, characters and a love story we all are enjoying! I am headed for a reread of the Callaghans in the near future and looking forward to seeing where the next generation takes us! 5+ stars.
If your fan of the Callaghan's Pine Ridge series you will very excited for Matt's story. If you haven't read the series you should since its great but its not necessary for this story. Matt is all grown up and returning home after 10 years in the Army. He is at a pinnacle in his career and needs to make a decision that will forever change his life. After he settles in with his family he meets their next door neighbors caregiver Anna and quickly comes to the conclusion that she not only beautiful but she is hiding something.
Anna Black has come to Pine Ridge to start a new job that she quickly finds out is not available any longer and fate just happens to give her a better opportunity when she meets a group of senor citizens looking for someone with her background. Anna has worked to help others and get past her childhood and the secrets she would prefer to keep buried. Unfortunately things don't always stay buried and she will need someone like Matt to help her.
Abbie has done a fantastic job with this new story. We get The Long Road Home, Sanctuary, and the Callaghans all rolled into one new story. You don't have to read any of the books in the previously mentioned series, but I always get more enjoyment when I know the background of the characters involved (in this case, reading the Callaghan Brothers gives the complete background).
I love the reactions of the Callaghans brothers to Matt's joining the Army. Anna and Matt have an intriguing story. There are secrets that both Anna and Matt are keeping. Throw in a threats from several different directions and it will take all of the Callaghans and their friends to bring about the rescue.
I have enjoyed every Abbie Zanders that I have ever read (I believe I have read them all and her paranormal and Callaghans are among my favorites). Awesome storytelling keeps me coming back for each new Abbie Zanders release - no matter what genre she is writing.
Home Team Advantage is Abbie Zander’s’ contribution to the long Road home series, and it was a fabulous story. It has been a while since I have read a book in one day. I could not put it down. This is the perfect segway between the first and second generation of the Callaghan family. The story features Matt who is Kieran’s son. They met when he was a child, and he had been party of the Callaghans ever since. This was an awesome beginning to the new series. Anna has moved in next door to take care of their elderly neighbor. Matt is home deciding what to do with his military career after an injury. Anna runs into some major life trouble, and the Callaghan and Sanctuary families help her out. They realize that they are meant to be together, and they get an awesome happily ever after. I love Abbie Zanders books. She writes superb plots with lovable characters. I can’t wait to read more about the Callaghan kids!
The Callaghans of Pine Ridge are back. As always get ready for family, mystery, intrigue, secrets, danger and plenty of drama. At the heart of it are Matt and Anna. He’s come home injured from a mission and to make some major decisions on his future. She came to town for a job. When this falls through she manages to talk her way into another position. What she didn’t expect was Matt. They have a strong attraction to each other. However she’s a woman with secrets and Matt’s determined to unravel all of them with the aid of his family. Will Anna find them becoming her biggest allies and supporters so that she can let down her guard and realise Pine Ridge and Matt is the home she never realised she wanted or needed. At the same time can Matt convince his heart to overrule his head when it comes to his future life? This story has everything I’ve come to expect when catching up with the Callaghans. A dramatic, suspenseful, intriguing return to Pine Ridge and definitely not to be missed.
This book was so good. First we get to see Matt O'Connell all grown up. Next we get to meet old friends. But most importantly we get to visit the Callahan Clan. I love everything about this book. I love that every-time I read one of Abbie's stories I feel like I am coming home for a family reunion. While this is a stand alone and is great as a one off story, it is so much richer when you have read the Callahan series. There is warmth, depth, and a feeling like you know them or can relate to them. I read these stories over and over again and find something new to love about them. Knowing that Matt's book is the first, in hopefully the start of the next generation of Callahans makes me absolutely giddy to get more stories. As long as Abbie is writing, I will continue to be a loyal reader. Congratulations on an amazing story for the next generation of Croies and Happliy Ever Afters.
This book is a crossover not only into the Long Road Home series by the Binge Read Babes but also into Abbie Zanders' Callaghans and Sanctuary series. And it was wonderful to see some of my favorite book boyfriends again but also to see how seamlessly they were incorporated into a story that may set up the next generation of Callaghans.
Matt is all grown up, considering a career change, and on one last visit home. Or is he? How easy is it to leave behind everything and everyone you love? The people who changed your life? And the person who may change your future?
In classic Abbie Zanders' style, this book effortlessly combines danger, intrigue, family, and romance. I could read this book for a very long time and still be sad when it is over. But the beauty of books is I can read it again and again and again. Highly recommend!
Abbie Zanders has done it again! I could not put this book down. Matt is home in Pine Ridge for what may be the last time...if everything goes according to his plans. Anna is new in town. She came to Pine Ridge for a job that was supposed to be hers. Unforseen complications kept her from getting there on time to start her job. Unfortunately, the job was given to someone else. Down to her last few dollars, she stopped by the local IHOP. Overhearing a conversation between friends, one of the ladies is looking for a caregiver/companion. This just happens to be the best thing to happen for Anna and Mrs. Campbell. Problem is, Anna has secrets that can't come to light. Matt is great at reading people and can tell she's hiding something. When she runs a foul of a really bad man, can Matt and his uncles rescue her in time? Sorry, no spoilers. I received this ARC and here is my honest review.
Another brilliant book from Abbie Zanders and another wonderful addition to the Long Road Home series. Anna is down on her luck when she meets Elsa Campbell. They can help each other out. There’s more to Anna than meets the eye. Matt returns home to Pine Ridge, he’s home for six months while he decides what his future holds. When he discovers that Anna has arrived out of nowhere and is suddenly helping his elderly neighbour, he’s instantly suspicious. When the truth comes to light the family galvanise into action. Let the excitement begin, it’s brilliant edge of your seat stuff and I loved every minute of it. This book is a phenomenal book, it combines some of Abbie’s wonderful series, for me it’s like old home week where I’m catching up with family that I don’t see often but love loads. I received this book from the author. I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Anna Black is a certified LPN specializing in Elder Care. Matt O’Connell is a special op soldier mulling over a major decision to change his Life. Faith is Matt’s Mom. Kassidy, Brady, Bridget, Briana and Finn are Matt’s siblings. Kieran’s is Matt’s Stepdad.
Matt comes home on a 6 month leave and meets his next door neighbor, Mrs. Campbell’s nurse,Anna ( she is a loner because of her past). Matt has a gut feeling she is hiding something in her past and asks his Uncle Ian Callaghan to investigate. Anna becomes a target of Mrs Campbell’s grandson, who is trying to take over Her finances underhandedly Can Matt and his uncles resolve the issue? Can Matt and Anna have a Happily Ever After?
This book has suspense, danger, intrigue, a chance at love, and finally home in Pine Ridge.
I love Matt and Anna. Matt is home from the Army trying to decide if he wants to take a clandestine job that will take him away from his family permanently. Anna is on the run from her past. Both Matt and Anna are strong characters who are very independent. Neither wants help from anyone else much less each other. They are attracted to each other but neither one can afford getting involved in a relationship. Even when danger finds Anna they continue to resist. It is a great start to the next generation of Callaghan’s. You get some of the Callaghan family and a cameo from the Sanctuary guys. It is well written and edited. It ducks you in and makes you not want to put it down. You don’t have to read the other Callaghan stories first but they are great stories so I recommend that you do!
First let me say, if it’s written by Abbie & it’s got a Callaghan in it I’m reading it! Am I excited that we’re moving on to the next generation, absolutely, but sad that the OG’s are getting a little older and a little more gray. I’ve loved Matt since Having Faith. He was a great kid & grew up to be an awesome man so this story fit him to a T. What I enjoyed most about this story is the little snippets of the past - the cottage, the first bbq, cinnamon rolls, etc. IYKYK. Anna is a great heroine, a lot like another Callaghan we know,Taryn! Being on the run, staying hidden, etc. This book has just the right amount of romance and drama. With Abbie it’s not the ending it’s all the anticipation & build up to that ending that makes her books so good & on my reread list. Don’t miss this book!!!
Matt comes home a bit puzzled by the advice given to him in the airport USO lounge by Blessing. He plans on enjoying six months with his family before disappearing forever to undercover work. Spotting someone at his eldery neighbors house, he questions his mom as to who it is. Mrs Campbell hired Anna after hearing about the run of bad luck Anna was having. Matt instinctively knows Anna is hiding something. Anna wants nothing more than to do her job and stay under the radar so her secrets aren't exposed. Matt is attracted to her despite having reservations, so he asks his uncle's to look into her background. Mrs Campbell's grandson does the same, which brings trouble to town. Matt and the Callaghan's race to the rescue after she is kidnapped from police custody. Suspense, snark, and a happy ending make for another great read in this series.
I loved this story and the fact that it combines the Long Road Home and Callaghan Brothers series. At the beginning we get an appearance from Blessing and her cryptic words for Matt. Then we get to Pine Ridge and get to know Matt and Anna. These characters are both at a crossroads in their life - Matt is needing to decide whether to stay in the Army and Anna has moved to Pine Ridge for a job that has since been filled by another person.
There are plenty of surprises and some danger as the story progresses. It's fun to watch the males not want to admit they've met their croies while those around them see what is obviously happening. I don't want to give away the plot, but it was great to see the Callaghan Brothers have an opportunity to work together again. This is such a loving family, and it always feels like returning home reading one of their stories.
Blessing's words come back to Matt in his mind once he's met Mrs C's new home caregiver, and the mystery begins, both have their secrets, and the chemistry between them would the secrets be a deal breaker, nope not when you want something bad enough even though you really don't know it yet, It's the croie affect he's denying himself because he thinks he's leaving, and Anna doesn't want to get to close with anyone because she doesn't stay anywhere long enough, enter the creepy greedy grandson who throws a wrench into everyone's lives and it's the Callaghan clan to the rescue, woo woo makes sense now, thank you Blessing's wisdom, exciting from beginning to the end, seeing old familiar friends and family, absolutely amazing story, totally recommend, I have voluntarily read and review this ARC, thank you for the privilege, Dana Zamora
Ohhhh boy!! Second generation books!! Matt is home to visit his close knit family, possibly for the last time. Anna is in hiding and fate brings her close to the Callaghan’s. This story had beautifully rich characters and story building, as I feel all Zanders stories do. I did find it a little hard to believe that Matt would be considering what he is, with how close his family is. I understand that all the Callaghan’s find the calling to serve, but to cut all ties was hard to believe. On to my favorite part, although this story has no cliffhangers, I feel that the storyline has several that I am 🤞🏻🤞🏻 means more Callaghan’s next generation and even Anna’s brother, he has to pop up somewhere!! 5 stars
