To stop a powerful invention from falling into the wrong hands, Claudia Rua will have to go above and beyond: She’ll have to steal it from a billionaire’s impregnable compound. Claudia’s latest invention, PREVIA, represents a groundbreaking—and potentially dangerous— new method for helping Alzheimer’s patients retrieve their memories. When the platform is stolen from her lab, Claudia immediately suspects her boss, billionaire Horge Hooglestar. But when you want to make a move against one of the most powerful men in the world, you need to think outside the box… and the law. Now, Claudia must recruit a heist team, including her estranged best friend Andrea, Andrea’s genius hacker of a partner, Syd, and a disgruntled underwater performer for a high-end circus. Can they make off with PREVIA before Hooglestar sells it to the highest bidder? The clock is ticking.
A thrilling heist tale that pits the haves against the have-nots and a cadre of badass women against an all-powerful megalomaniac, Tech Heist is a must-listen for fans of capers and high-tech adventures alike.
This was a short but fun story! I've noticed that quite a few of these brief Audible original stories tend to have this similarity.
The way this was written gave it the feeling of watching a show on television with your eyes closed. The characters interacted with each other and their surroundings, each character with a different person voicing them and sound effects to make it feel as though you're standing right next to them. This isn't the first story I've come across with this setup and I love the idea. I love feeling as though I'm literally part of the action!
The characters in the story were fun, witty and cunning. I didn't have trouble telling them apart at all. I had an odd fascination with the antagonist of the story. For some unexplainable reason, I found him charming despite him being such a massive d-bag. I think I have the man who voiced him to thank for that. I also adored Claudia's misfit gang of friends. Each one of them had a special purpose and quirky personalities. Their banter got quite a few laughs out of me, my favorite being Domino telling Claudia that she's "as Mexican as a tortilla". Their love for each other was obvious. And, for such a short tale, it managed to bring tears to my eyes near the end of the story when Claudia has a conversation with her adorable father who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Her father, due to his illness, thinks he is talking to Claudia's mother, not Claudia herself. He talks about how unique Claudia is and how much he loves her while she cries, and that hit my heart so hard, I couldn't keep the tears in. What a beautiful and touching scene!
The only reason I'm giving this story four stars instead of five is the fact that you have to pay extremely close attention near the end to keep track of who is doing what during the heist to get PREVIA back. Like I said, the characters themselves are easy to tell apart, but when they're all in motion and doing different things during the heist, you need to make sure you're keeping track of everyone so you don't get confused. I had to rewind at times to make sure I understood what exactly was going on, which bothered me from time to time.
Other than that small complaint, this was a great story with a ton of action that will keep you engrossed the entire time you're listening. If you have three hours and want something fun to listen to, I say give this a try!
Listened to this on Audible. A bit like an Oceans Eleven but not as clever. Great narration (apart from the Swedish accents) and an easy background listen.
