Can their fragile new love withstand the wrath of an ex who refuses to let go?

After ten years in a lonely marriage, Katherine Doyle scraped up the remnants of her self-respect and walked out. Except her ex, Bridget, would rather blow up her phone with pleas and threats than admit it’s over. If the woman would just let her go, Katherine could finally move on and find some happiness…even simply enjoy a little flirtation with the beautifully androgynous, blue-eyed blonde she meets in a coffee shop.

Proving marital infidelity is PI Natalie Barker’s stock in trade. But the moment she meets Bridget Hammond’s allegedly unfaithful wife, the more she’s sure she’s wasting her time. Katherine is a lovely, squeaky-clean breath of fresh air, inside and out. The kind of sweet beauty Natalie wouldn’t bother resisting—if only she wasn’t the subject of Natalie’s investigation.

Inevitably, Natalie and Katherine circle closer and closer until desire grabs hold and catches fire. But even if Katherine can forgive Natalie her secrets, the larger threat remains—one that could wreck more than just their love.

What happens when Katherine wants a divorce from her younger millionaire wife Bridget? Well, Bridget hires a private investigator (because no one would have the temerity to leave her) to prove Katherine must be having an affair.
Tereze takes us through the mind numbing workings of Bridget's unbelievable egotistical behavior. Natalie is the investigator charged with the assignment. In short order she realizes that Katherine has done no wrong and just wants freedom from her self absorbed wife - submits her report and signs off on the contract. Suffice to say that a fleeting meeting at a coffee shop revealed a slight chemistry between Natalie and Katherine but should it go further? Secrets and lies never lend well to a relationship then throw in best friends with their own problems and family angst...
The author does romance mixed with lust and love with heartbreak before a HEA for another sizzling read.

Private eyes, they're watching you...

I might've had the Hall and Oates Private Eyes song stuck in my head for days while reading this.

Another banger! I really enjoyed this one. Natalie and Katherine were so compatible from the start. The first half of the book was a little frustrating with Natalie's tangled little web of lies and the anticipation gave me a whole lot of anxiety waiting for that moment when it finally came out. But the intentions were made clear and the resolution made sense so none of it felt forced or out of place.

The rest of the book had me hanging on and curious to know what happened next. I think I might've experienced a little too much anger with this one though in regards to Bridget. It's hard to read something sometimes and not project your own experience on to it so it might've invoked some real emotions. God, there was just nothing likeable about her but that was probably the point so, well done. Vile person. But unlike real life, the resolution was pretty satisfying.

One thing that did bum me out was no intimate makeup scene. That's always one of my favorite parts because it's so passionate and spicy. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of well written spice in here. Off the charts hot. If you've read this author you know she can write a hot bedroom scene and there were still enough of those but I just noticed the absence. Doesn't change my opinion or love for this book, though.

The characters were adorable, the plot was captivating and the ending was sweet. I would definitely read this again.

It’s been a while since I picked up a book by Melissa Tereze. Apparently, the extra bucks in my pocket couldn’t keep up with how quickly my favorite sapphic writers produce their work. 😅 But I’m really glad I chose this one for my next Tereze book.

From the start, the chemistry between the main characters, Katherine and Nat, is palpable. I particularly love how confident and feisty Katherine is. She stands up for herself and knows what she wants; it is sucha turn on! Tereze describes her as “one hell of a fox,” and I couldn’t agree more!

Tereze has a special way of writing age gap romances. She genuinely understands why women like me are often drawn to older women. It’s not just about looks; it’s about their strength and how they could or have broken (finally) free from society’s expectations.

I, however, did struggle with Nat calling Katherine “babe.” It’s one of those terms that makes me cringe. It sadly takes away some of the enjoyment for me — but that’s just a personal quirk.

As for the story itself, I was really invested, but I started to lose interest in the last third. It felt like the plot was dragging, and some of the dialogue seemed repetitive. I think it could have benefited from more conflict between the main characters? And yes, the frequent use of “babe” didn’t help with that feeling.

Overall, I mostly enjoyed the book. It’s fun, steamy, and the chemistry between Katherine and Nat is believable.

Loved It!

Melissa Terese keeps taking storytelling to new heights. I loved the premise on this book. Nat Barker worked for her father’s investigative company as I private investigator. Her latest new client was Bridget Hammond, a flirty high maintenance type, who wants Nat to get the evidence for her adulterer wife, Katherine. Katherine, who has been married to Bridget for ten years, wants a divorce. Not because she is cheating but because she has been trying hard to keep her marriage together but Bridget is constantly away and throwing gifts at her is not enough to keep her there. She wants a divorce nothing else. Nat who decides to take the case even though she knows something is up with Bridget’s story, goes to a cafe she knows Katherine is going to meet her best friend. But when Nat overhears Katherine’s conversation first with Bridget who called her and then with her best friend explaining the hassles Bridget was putting her through. Nat who overhears everything decides to comment on what she heard but when Nat and Katherine look at each other something sparks. As they start flirting back and forth, both know there is a problem for very different reasons. This had a lot of laughs, some tears and an ending that makes you proud. Another great read….

This was a reread because for some reason I didn't write a review the first time. So worth the reread! This is a gorgeous age gap, complex HOT love story. Complex in the way Natalie and Katherine meet. Nat is a PI and has been hired by Katherine's estranged wife to find out who she's cheating with. It doesn't take Nat long to figure out Kat's not cheating, so she dissolved the contract. When she gets a call from Kat asking her for a drink.
This story is so HOT and a page turner throughout! 5 stars!!!

Privately Investigated Into Love…

Lovely and sexy age gap written by wonderful author M. T. The chemistry between the MCs is palpable and their beginning no strings relationship was hot and really of course had all the strings lol. The tangle of lies that kept perpetuating was a bit annoying? not sure the word but naturally we couldn’t tell the truth because we knew the person would run for the hills so let’s keep lying as long as possible…ugh. However, the resolution was satisfying. The steam was very nice. I kept waiting for the ex ball to drop and it did and it was great but I don’t know, something just isn’t sitting right with me. I loved it though, truly. I definitely recommend reading if you like age gap.

Happy endorphins spread throughout my body upon finishing this book way too quickly. Another hit by Melissa Tereze. It has more angst than her previous books. Tereze is the queen when it comes to age-gap romances. She fluidly combines characters that are meant to be together and have an abundance of chemistry. The angst is expected and resolved well and timely. I truly enjoy the books Tereze releases and will continue to follow her. Another one of her books hits my reread pile.

she’s done it again

What an absolutely amazing book! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
The two main characters are just so perfect for each other. From the first meeting sparks fly and they never fade. The best friend characters are also great. I think we can all agree that the ex is a nasty piece of work, the less said the better.

Once again Tereze has left me wanting more. Every book has had this same problem. I just want more! Who knows, maybe we’ll be blessed with a second book in the future.

Gripping romance

I love the way Melissa weaves so many layers together. Some of them might be easier to spot and anticipate but just as you think you've got the story figured, she throws a surprise into a different layer. Ultimately, all the layers come together in a beautiful whole of a HEA but the excitement along the way makes this a true Tereze book.

This was the classic "I should have told you at the start but didn't" story where a secret held too long blows up in the face of the one holding the secret.

Natalie works for her father's private investigation firm. She's good at what she does. When Bridget, Katherine's ex-wife, starts asking Natalie to dig around in Katherine's life to prove she's having an affair, the entire situation feels wrong to Natalie, but a job's a job so she takes it. But after only a week into this, she can see Katherine isn't with anybody and that Bridget is an over the top narcissist who thinks she can force Katherine to return to her. Natalie drops that contract.

And then Natalie finds Katherine in a coffee shop they both frequent and Katherine is breaking down because she saw a man digging through her garbage. Natalie immediately realizes Bridget has another PI investigating Katherine but consoles her. And at that point, sparks fly.

Spoilers ahead (and properly tagged so you can skip)...

But don't stop reading there. Because Katherine has a good friend and what are good friends for except to make you stop and really think?

A lovely story, a HEA, and another winner from Melissa Tereze.

This premise of this caught my attention.

After being in a marriage for 10 years with her younger wife, Bridget, Kathleen decides to leave. She goes to a friend's house.

Bridget hires a PI convinced that she is having an affair, not believing that she just does not want to be in a loveless marriage with someone who thinks money will solve all the problems.

Natalie gets hired, and talks to Kathleen at the coffee shop, while there is sparks, Nat decides not to pursue because she is investigating her, but after a week of nothing, she decide to terminate the contract.

From there the two start a relationship and Nat feels guilty about not confession how she knows her. Eventually the truth comes out, and the relationship crumbles.

I went into thinking the stakes were be higher. With a ex who does not want to leave her alone, I thought maybe she would do more criminal activity then just standing outside her house, or hiring someone to watch her. But she didn't do much besides harassment which I know can be take a toll on someone.

I loved that Kathleen started a live her life the way she wanted after the separation. And even found love again when she wasn't looking for it. Besides the lying there wasn't much conflict, but I still found it to be interesting story.

Wow, these two wonderfully written characters were made for each other and rocked my world!
So hot and so cute together!
But let's start at the beginning.
Natalie and Katherine meet seemingly spontaneously in a café, but things are not as they seem and Katherine doesn't know that Natalie planned this "spontaneous" meeting.
Natalie never expected how she would react to Katherine's presence.
None of them would have thought that a look, the smell of the perfume or a quick smile could ignite such a fire.
Natalie is a private investigator and was hired by Katherine's ex-wife to prove her infidelity. Something Natalie actually regretted at the moment she signed the contract. Because this Ex is not only extremely strange, but also apparently completely delusional.
She's definitely one of the characters written by Melissa Tereze that I hate with passion again! Her angsty romance novels often feature idiots and outright villains. Some are simply unbearable.

But I love Natalie and Katherine together. The fire between the two blazes right from the start and gets hotter and hotter!
There is drama and suspense and also the Happy End that these beauties deserve!
I hope we meet them again!

Not her best, but...

This one definitely wasn't one of the authors best pieces. At least for me. Not that it wasn't written well, because it was. It just wasn't one I was able to get really into. It wasn't one of those books that you want to read it without putting it down. As I actually had to put it down a couple of times because I just couldn't get into it.

I had a hard time with Katherine's reaction to Nat's little confession. I thought she initially blew it to far out of proportion. But I'm sure that is exactly what the author intended. I just had a hard time with it. I get it. I get why she overreacted because of her previous relationship. That's why I'm still giving this book 4 stars. I know a lot of the authors readers will really enjoy this book. So if you're a fan of this author, definitely give it a read.

Very smooth and pleasant book, even if towards the middle/end it lost a bit of the initial luster that characterized it, due to the presence of redundant sentences which made it a little difficult to remain anchored to a scene. Very well-structured characters, so much so that despite not being a fan of these age-gap stories, I fell in love with the character of Katherine. Perhaps the thing that disappointed me a little was the relationship between Katherine and Bridget, which was reduced to a bit of a speck and could have been explored (and explained) better.

Wow another phenomenal story, I loved the main characters their connection was embedded beautifully throughout the book. Their journey to risk it all with their hearts on their sleeve but adding twists so real you felt it all their emotions making it impossible to put down ,What a phenomenal story a must-read congratulations

repetitive

Not this Author’s best book. There was so much repetition in dialogue (internal and between characters), that it minimized the actual story and impacted their chemistry. Maybe a bit more editing was in order
