" I am in some sick love triangle with my husband and my insanity."
In the quiet corridors of suburbia, where manicured lawns whispered tales of ordinary lives, I stood on the precipice of my own unraveling. Our house, a carefully curated sanctuary of domestic bliss, hid the storms brewing within its walls—the storms that gave no warning, the flip of a switch, the great awakening. Whatever you want to call it, it doesn’t matter.
They will say I lost it. That the pressures of motherhood was too much for me.No, I haven’t lost anything; I have found exactly what I have been looking for- her.
”I know that she is my insanity molded into the form of the me I want to be, and giving myself to her is giving myself over to the trenches of my madness”
ᯓ What a short & gory little book this was lol. Miss thang had quite an alter ego. Valentine’s Day chocolates will never be looked at the same.
”I just can’t get the petals to fold right. It's giving weeping willow instead of pink lily.”

I really hated how Mark treated his wife in the first few pages. Although, I have said similar things to my wife over the years, so maybe I should reflect on that. Not necessarily as mean-spirited and harsh as he worded certain statements, but parts of it I heard reverberate in my mind. I did really enjoy the depth that the author went with all of the racing thoughts and emotions with our leading lady, Emily. My wife had a very lengthy and difficult battle with ‘baby blues’ once our daughter was born, so I understood the experience. However, as the story unfolded and just deteriorated, I went from disliking Mark to downright hating him. Not caring what happened to him or how bad it was. And I rather enjoyed what happened for the remainder of the story. Emily was a fabulous lead and had all the tools and layers to make you want to just read her forever. She was the focus throughout and never disappointed. The overall premise was simple, but very effective and well-orchestrated. The ending felt a little too abrupt for my liking. I liked the conclusion, but I just wanted a little more to bring everything together. Still a very good way to spend a half hour on Good Friday for all you fellow horror hounds out there.
If there were ever a character I’ve wanted to throat punch, it would be the MMC in this book. Oh my God what a p.o.s! Thankfully there was a plan, carefully planed by a woman who found a connection with her insanity. Beautiful, disgusting, horrific, gory revenge. I liked it. Hard pass on valantines treats though.
It’s time for a little afternoon delight, haha just kidding, it’s time for a little shit eating and penis weaving. No need to check your hearing for a potential infection-you heard me right.
Emily is a stay at home mum who just wants to find something for herself. A hobby, something to take her mind away from just being a mum for a second. Those of us who can relate know how that feels, right? Our entire identity can just become mum. Like Emily reading is something that I do just for me- even if the stuff I read is ligitamately murder porn!
Emily is sick to the back teeth of her boyfriend being a grade A prick but she just wants their relationship back on track. So she decides to surprise him while he’s working late (yeah red flag central here) with a nice take-out meal from his favourite place. What she sees makes her paint the town red. Oh, and she seems to be losing her sanity bit by bit as she witnesses another woman who happens to be Emily playing out sick fantasies.
“I just can’t get the petals to fold right. It’s giving weeping willow instead of pink lily. Not even camera worthy.”
Love a feminine rage story and a woman getting her revenge in the most splattery worthy way. The scene with the dismembered hand-yeah my eyes literally bugged out of my head.
Bittersweet Chocolate by C.M. Guidroz 🍫❤️(@c.m.guidroz )
This is a very short little erotic horror novella that I absolutely loved! Even if It made me not ever want Valentine’s Day chocolates anymore 😅 this is NOT a romance.
This one kind of hit home with the quotes:
“The allure of Booktok seemed irresistible, and I couldn’t help but smile at the prospect of discovering new stories while Jake napped. The idea that I could make friends with similar people, and have some sense of community, was exciting to me. Maybe I’m just desperate. Maybe this is another cry for help disguised as a hobby. I just can’t remember the times before when I wasn’t just a stay-at-home mom”
As a stay at home mom who is medicated for postpartum depression, this book is somewhat relatable in a lot of ways (except my husband isn’t a giant pile of shit like the MMC in this book). I wanted the MMC to get hit in the face with a hammer, he sucked (but he was supposed to suck) and the FMC deserved better. I loved her 😍 (and her insanity)
This was only about 50 pages or so, if you want something short and dark to end your Valentine’s Day.
Emily is a stay at home mom who just discovered booktok. She's wanting a hobby for when her son is napping. When she tells her husband Mark, he isn't supportive at all which ruins Emily's interest, just like any other hobby she's wanted to try out. Their marriage is falling apart, has been since they had their son.
A dark presence, being her insanity, is looming over her everytime Mark and her argue. She sees her own self doing some wild things to Mark, yet, she can't look away. One day she decides she wants to surprise Mark at work with food since he's been working long hours. When she notices he isn't alone, her insanity kicks into an all time high and nothing can stop her for what she's about to do next.
We love a good for her moment! This was a quick and fun read. Watching Emily plan out her idea was perfection. Mark deserved that and so much more! She even made him chocolate... that ungrateful bastard 😂 Such a fun read by Candy!
“I’m trapped in a sick love triangle with my husband and my insanity.”
Craving a thrilling, fast-paced horror read for Valentine’s Day? At just 91 pages, this book delivers a powerful punch of vengeance, female rage, and chocolates that may not be what they seem…
This was such an entertaining and bloody read! And, oddly enough, a little relatable? 🤪 A stay-at-home mom stumbles upon her husband’s secret and decides to give him a Valentine’s Day he’ll never forget. Since it’s such a short read, I won’t spoil too much, but let’s just say the surprises are both disgustingly shocking and wildly creative. Watching Emily’s descent into madness was mesmerizing, almost as if it took on a life of its own 😉 Plus, the gore? Absolutely awesome! I even picked up some unexpected origami tips along the way! 🤭
This is my first read by this author and I’m already craving more! This is perfect for fans of dark, twisted & gory tales, it’s a bite-sized nightmare you won’t forget. Dare to take a taste? 🍫
Emily is sick of the emotional, verbal, physical abuse from her husband Mark. He belittles any joy she gets that does not involve being a mother to their son Jake. So she sets up a plan to finally be free of him. This story highlights how women in abusive marriages (or any kind of abusive situation) are expected to be quiet and just put up with the abuse for the sake of appearing to be a happy family. The cover of this book is what originally drew me to read this, but the writing is stellar and I will read more ofC.M. Guidroz's stories.
A short valentine's day horror story filled with feminine rage & revenge.
The cover of the book is awesome but the story was rushed.
It was predictable and I was bored.
The fmc is highly relatable since her attributes probably describe 80-90% of the women in the book community, let's be real; married woman with a toddler who takes on too many hobbies and wants to get into reading and making a booktok to find community.
There were interesting moments...but I wanted more character development. If it was longer and less rushed, I think I might've enjoyed the story unfolding piece by piece. I would be open to reading a longer story from this author.
Vibes: Motherhood. Failing marriage. Revenge. Blood, gore, and razorblades. Life is like a box of chocolates…
My Review: Well, I went into this blind, and came out of it seeing REAL good. My eyes are open, C.M. Guidroz. Not only was this fun and disgusting and a bloody mess of parts, but I love characters who have “had it” and f*cking take matters into their own hands. I’m not even going to give away any of the plot, but just know this gets realllly graphic, and if you’re not into graphically laid out scenes, maybe skip this. You start looking at certain things in a strange light after reading this. LOL.
Our main character was very real to me - her thoughts, her actions, I believed it all. I’m not a mother, but I get exactly where she is coming from from a relationship standpoint. And watching things build and build until her climax (iykyk), it’s like an episode of Snapped on Oxygen…in the very best way.
Caution: this is an extreme horror/splatterpunk with multiple trigger warnings. If this is not for you, please read no further. If you don't know what splatterpunk horror or extreme horror entrails (I mean entails) you may want to look that up first. If you watched The Help and Millie's special pie bothered you, stop here. If you're still good to go....
Meet Emily, wife of Mark and mother of Jake. Meet Emily, wife of an abusive adulterer. Meet Emily, the woman who just isn't going to take it anymore. She has a she-shed that she has soundproofed and she is not afraid to use it. It's Valentine's Day and Cupid has a saw.
I really did enjoy this book. Nothing was dragged out or tedious to sift through. I like the FMC. As a mother myself; I really understood the feelings Em had & the thoughts she held about mother hood. I like that this book essentially showed what postpartum depression/anxiety can look like & what it can do to a person. However in this book, Emily’s “insanity” was made out to be a figure, a scary one too. The introduction of her insanity made me a little scared & I scooted a little closer to my husband whilst reading. I liked that Em was a good mother & she tried to be a good wife but she was not getting anything that she deserved & everything the MMC did to her was straight up BS. The MMC got what he deserved & I enjoyed reading about it. I would’ve punched him in the throat myself.
I really enjoyed this read & I look forward to reading my second book from this author 🖤
I randomly came across this book and the blurb intrigued me. The fact that it is a short book was also what lead me to one click. Bittersweet Chocolate is full of female rage, gore, and dare I say spice. I usually don’t rate short books high because I don’t feel they have enough time to hook me. This was the exception. The gore and craziness kept me reading even when I cringed and thought what the heck am I reading. Honestly perfect read for Valentine’s Day.
I wanted a horror read for valentines month and boy this sure delivered 👀 they say revenge is sweet this one was f**king horrific lol 🫣 this isn’t for the faint hearted it’s graphic and gory but that aside it was a well written novella following the main protagonist who’s in a love sick triangle with her husband and insanity. One of my fav quotes from the book “I’m not saying every woman in the world is in some domestic prison but even the lucky ones have felt unappreciated at some point” defo worth a read if your ok with the TW and gore
Ughh i hated Mark already at page 11.. this short story is about Emily and Mark and well they live not the happy life.. they have a kid Jake who Emily is taking care off.
You already can guess it Mark is getting “late” home from work and is giving Emily a hard time but Emily is finally standing up for herself on Valentines day, and it’s the best Valentine for her .
The details in de book are amazing it’s like you are Emily’s shadow
C.M. Guidroz always comes through with these stories!!! The FMC finds insanity in herself and rids her live from her POS husband, all with a little thriller aspect (I don't want to give much away) with an ending that felt satisfying!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's less than 60 pages, so it was a quick read. It was, in a way, relatable to wife-hood and motherhood. There were a few moments during reading this where I laughed and gaged!
I will definitely be checking out more of C.M. Guidroz's books!
What a perfect novella for a Valentine's Day read! With other C.M. books it holds true to the gore and a fun story. Probably won't be eating chocolates this year
