The Ojanox #3

The Ojanox III: All Fall Down

Rate this book
"In The Ojanox, Daemon Manx creates a community and cast of characters you feel like you know personally, like you’ve known them all your life. And when you lose one of those characters, you’ve lost one of your own. Manx makes you care and makes you hurt. The Ojanox is a masterclass on characterization." ~ Patrick C. Harrison III, Author of 100% Match and Grandpappy

The Battle has Begun

The year is 1979. A small New York town prepares to welcome the fall season in all the expected young children bicker and boast over Halloween costumes, secret lovers meet in clandestine corners, and a tortured soul plots wicked deeds. All the while, hidden just out of view, patient and hungry… an ancient evil lurks.

With their town under siege and all evacuation routes blocked, Sheriff Primrose is quickly running out of options. Falling back on his military training, he enlists the help of first-responders and retired officers, forming an armed posse. Their round up as many survivors as possible before night falls, and then barricade themselves somewhere safe until dawn.

Despite being sidelined by the adults, Troy, Wendy, and Janis have made their own startling discovery, one that may help turn the tide in the impending confrontation – but only if they can convince their parents to listen.

But timeless malevolence is not so easily conquered. High up on the mountain, hidden in the depths of Mountainside Asylum, the dark entity has a plan of its own, something the Grove’s residents will never see coming.

Beginning where Ashes to Ashes left off, All Fall Down amps up the action level to eleven in a cataclysmic fight for survival.

“Written with beautifully descriptive scenes, The Ojanox places you directly into the quaint, small town of Garrett Grove during the Halloween season where everything is pleasant…until it isn’t. An ancient, dark entity is accidently excavated and escapes into the world with chilling results. The Ojanox is a fresh, original, plot-driven page turner that I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to Part Two of this excellent series.” – Jeani Rector, Editor of The Horror Zine

"The Ojanox harkens back to the horror boom of the '70s and '80s, in a very good way. Manx has a knack for creating characters you'll love (or hate) and putting them through the ringer. His dialogue is sharp and storytelling gripping and fast paced. Now that I'm hooked, I need to read the rest!" – Duncan Ralston, Author of Woom and Ghostland

Woah.... what a thrill ride this was. This particular book in the series is probably my favorite so far. It's very intense both in scene and in the emotions it evokes from the reader. Multiple times, I found myself holding my breath, scared to move..hell scared to breathe. I was both terrified by and horrified for the characters in this book. The emotional rollercoaster was real, and it was intense. It even made me shed a few tears.

Prior to the Ojanox, I had only read one other title from Manx, and it was a co-written piece. If you have been sleeping on this author like I was, stop.. Seriously, you are missing out on some phenomenal writing.

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

C'mon Daemon Manx, is ANYONE gonna be left alive after Book 4? Non-stop carnage and non-stop action weren't the way I thought Book 3 would go. With this large a cast, I had to keep a notebook listing every character - guess how many are left alive! I'm not telling, but prospective readers should be prepared for some incredible death scenes and some unpredictable, though always realistic, turns in this eerily plausible, large scale, 70s small-town horror story!

The first book set the scene; I knew I'd love these characters, their family problems, the teen anxieties and the new friendships. The second book made it clear that the town of Garrett Grove was into huge trouble; the evil attacking it from all sides was extremely intelligent and not going to let go any time soon. But I thought the third book would show the people's counter-attack. Boy, was I wrong! The third book goes into overdrive, making the attacks in the second look like playground skirmishes! The writing is even more cinematic than in the previous two books, the plot far more complex and harrowing, and the plot thrives on sinister background revelations and amazing visuals throughout.

A town trying to save itself is not easy to write in detail. King did it, and he's set the standard for all who followed. But Manx's take is a modern one, with an eye to everything that's been shown to have been important in those small towns of the 1980s. The story's originality comes from the author's keen eye for all those details that matter. Although there's no time for romance (thankfully!), and the physics references should be taken with a grain of salt, the evil attacking the town knows exactly how to destroy the ties, both material and social/psychological/spiritual holding these people together - and does not hesitate to do so! Book 3 has many nasty deaths, emotionally nasty that is. If a story should be measured by the villainous monster figuring centrally in it, then The Ojanox is truly the worst kind of evil, a hive mind that's experienced, heartless, smart, but also cold and dark beyond measure.

Mr. Manx, pity the kids, at least those three we've all grown to love. Troy, Janis and Wendy should be given the chance to grow up! Well, I suspect there'll be no pity in this case either, but I had to say it. (I see what you're doing and I've gotten very worried!)

Anyway, so many painful moments in this; yet it's hugely entertaining and full of thrills. A definite page-turner!

The Ojanox III: All Fall Down is the best one yet!

Book 3 picks up right where Book 2 left off.
This one is so much darker than the first two. The action starts right away and doesn’t let up! An ancient, malevolent entity terrorizes a small town and it’s time for a showdown! I’ve become so attached to some of the characters, so this book packed an emotional throat punch. The eye for detail, plot, and the characters in this series rivals anything I’ve ever read (which includes anything I can get my hands on). I cannot wait to start Book 4!

Dare I say this series rivals The Stand? I urge you to buy this series and see for yourself!

7/5 stars. All the stars.

Round three and it's less of a battle and just an all out take over. Sheriff Primrose and Burt are pulling out all the stops to contain the thing absorbing the town. Another fast paced read that puts The Stand to shame. As it turns out, the kids are the answer, the adults say to Troy and his friends just stay out of it and be safe. Since when are kids gonna listen? In this one the kids make their own discovery which we follow along with, as they have the answer to the town's problem. However, that does not stop Damien bringing the emotional damage and bloodshed, because he has built us up to adore these characters. We have bonded with them, become attached to them so the reader is begging for Manx to spare them. But of course, Manx laughed and said nope, sorry Nat I know you loved this character but I'm feeling brutal.
Throwing back to the old school battle royal that we love In an old school 80s horror. The style of the series and Manx’s world building skills are on point, which is almost reminiscent of something you would love to see streamed and directed by Mike Flanagan.
This is a community, and you feel a part of the community which is why when he BUTCHERS a character you need ice cream and a breakup song. Damien creates atmosphere and sets the scene so detailed that you honestly visualise the surroundings. Which isn't a good thing when the Hive mind comes into the scene, things just get super creepy. You can tell that every chapter was painstakingly thought out and this makes you respect Damien more as an author, even when he rips your heart out repeatedly during.
I swear I'm totally not bitter.
For the next book I swear Daemon, you better not be going for Troy or the other kids I'm warning you!

The Ojanox III: All Fall Down is a must-read! 📚 Picking up right where Ashes to Ashes left off, this book hooks you immediately with its rich details and nonstop tension. Set in a small town haunted by dark forces, this horror story is packed with suspense and has a great mix of action and emotion. 😱 I especially loved the young kids who figure out what's happening before the adults, adding a fresh twist to the plot. 🌼

What stood out to me was how the story blends real, heartfelt moments with spine-chilling scares. It’s not just about fear; it's about courage, friendship, and standing up to the unknown. 🤝 Daemon Manx’s writing is so vivid that you can almost see the creeping shadows and feel the tension building. The twists kept me guessing the whole time, with each page turn bringing a new surprise. 🔄

And that cliffhanger? Intense! 😱 It ramps up the suspense and action to a whole new level. By the end, I was totally hooked and left wanting more. 🎢 This has easily become one of my top series this year, and I can't wait to see what happens next. 🔍 If you're into horror that keeps you guessing and makes you care about the characters, you've got to check out the Ojanox series.👻 I wholeheartedly recommend this book, the series and its author. 📚🔥

All Fall Down, the third book in the Ojanox series does NOT disappoint! I felt like a surfer who chose to catch this wave which builds momentum and then crushes me and drowns me in its chaos. The character development deepens and expands, which only makes what follows in the story more painful and gut-wrenching. The fear and dread become more oppressive as more distressing information is found out about the threat. The main action really takes off with a double bang and what follows is massive chaos and carnage, interspersed with displays of human compassion, heroism, desperation, denial, and insanity. And of course, there are SO MANY MONSTERS, each so very different and described in detail, which gives a glimpse of Manx’s impressive imaginative scope. I cannot wait for the next book and the conclusion of the series!

I was excited to read the third book in this series. The book turns more intense and that was exactly what I expected. The carnage in book three really shoots up. Sometimes I worry nobody will survive this. Despite that, I'm getting those late 70s, early 80s vibes. As I said in my review of book one, it's like a mini-series playing out.

All I can say is I can't wait to see what happens with book four. Once I managed to get proper time to read I couldn't stop reading. These creatures are cruel and I'm enjoying the ride so far.

Please tell me the kids survive. They have become such lovable characters. Knowing Daemon, though, he'll probably be a savage and kill them off haha.

The only bad thing is that I have to wait for book four, which concludes the series. Oh man, I can't wait!

Holy cannoli! What a ride! Book three is insane! So many things happened and so many lives were lost, absorbed into the collective. Books 1 and 2 were not boring by any means.

Book 1 introduced to the town of Garrett Grove and the people that you will come to love and mourn as they inevitably are taken by the entity.

Book 2 we see the entity and quickly discover that its not just any ordinary monster. Its a intelligent monster. An entity as old as possibly even time itself. Where did it come from? Why is it here? Why is it all consuming? I kept thinking that we would see a big showdown in book 3, however, it was less of a showdown and more of a large takeover. The entity is a hive mind, and it spares no one in its takeover of this idyllic town. I have to admit that there were more than a few characters I was not at all prepared to see not make it.

The authors eye for detail really makes this a fun series to read. I love the parts where they are in the cavern. The descriptions are so detailed that you can literally just see it running like a movie in your mind. I almost wish the place was real (the cavern not this monster). There are several obvious characters that I have grown to love, Troy, Wendy and Janis and of course Sheriff Carl.

This book ends of a cliff hanger and thankfully the author had already sent me the 4th book, so I didn't have to wait long. I read the 4th one in one afternoon. This is such an amazing series, even with all the carnage and losses, you will not be disappointed. I received this book free from the author for an honest review.

Book three carries the same fast-paced energy as the previous two and sets the stage for the final book beautifully. The Ojanox is done playing with it's food source and the humans are done being snacks.

I really like the world building in this book. The descriptions made me feel like I was in Garrett Grove, living this nightmare with its denizens. Each loss was felt, each victory was celebrated.

Daemon has a way with words that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. While I'm still a bit salty at being practically tricked into reading an October book in August, I'm really glad I decided to read the first book and continue the series.

I give this book 5 of 5 Paws as I get ready to drive into the final book of this quartet.

Wow, the title for part three should absolutely be taken seriously. It is peak foreshadowing. The devastation in this book is catastrophic.

Part 3 starts with a fast pace and does not let up.

Now that The Ojanox has increased its ranks, the variety of its mutations are seemingly limitless. There were so many different creatures that were described brilliantly and were so creative my worst nightmares couldn’t come up with these mutants.

Over the course of ~800-900 pages I have become pretty invested in a lot of characters in this small town. So the devastation that takes place in this book is heart wrenching.

Daemon Manx truly created an epic with this one!

Manx continues to impress with this series. I swear each book is better than the last and, to me, that says a lot, because they have all been great. Book 3 is so intense! The action is basically non-stop as those left in Garrett Grove brace themselves for the attack that is coming. There was so much bloodshed I was really beginning to wonder if anyone would be left. The vivid and brilliant writing really brings this to life. It’s a front row seat to total chaos. I cannot wait to jump into the last book because I need to know if my favorites make it and, of course, how all of this ends.

When we return to Garrett's Grove, it's a solemn mood. Towns people, especially children are noticeably missing. There is no time for the town to mourn and the intensity is cranked up to full speed as they realize what they're up against. There are a couple scenes that I couldn't believe happened. I was in tears. They were very shocking! I'm rooting for the town and its young heroes. Can't wait to read the next one!

Aptly named Ashes to Ashes will see them all fall down. This installment sees everything ramped up. The sex the violence, the madness, it's all there, and yo have to keep going to see who will be left standing at the end. This has easily been my favorite of the series to date, and I cannot wait to see how it closes out.

WOW did this book DELIVER!!! WHAT A KNOCKOUT SERIES-so suited to be made into a film or streaming series. The non-stop action just STAPLED me to my seat-I couldn’t binge this fast enough! This is exactly the kind of story I love-tons of action- everything ramped up here in All Fall Down-just a MASTERPIECE of horror writing.

I would highly recommend getting into this series as soon as possible. JUMP RIGHT IN HERE in Book 3, and start binging out immediately on this rollercoaster ride. Afterwards, you’ll be buying Books 1 and 2. Once you get a taste of this series, you’ll be dying for more.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unputdownable! This throwback to old-school horror has become my favorite book this year. The world-building is so masterfully crafted that I felt immersed in the story and invested in the characters right from the start. The level of detail and care given to their backstories and the deep character development made them three-dimensional and jump off the page.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So spot on with his authenticity, Manx writes dialog that feels exactly right. Every nuance in their thoughts and feelings hits on all levels, and, not gonna lie, at the appropriate places, I was hit right in the feels. And it would be potent if he lavished this care on a small handful of characters, but this story is set in a town, and he has created a whole community of characters, each so masterfully wrought.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This is cinematographic in scope-seriously, this is so perfectly ready for being made into a film or streaming series. This is horror writing at its finest. This is the brainchild of one of the best writers in the genre.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five blood-soaked, satisfied stars

Dare I say that this third book in the series only had me enjoying this author’s writing more than ever. Each book has me pondering and thinking about what I had just read. There was non stop action and lots of descriptive death scenes. Right now I have a list of characters that are left after the attack; each with special symbols indicating which group they are in. That is how involved the reader becomes in this book. There were also several terms that I had to look up in order to make the reference intended within the book. I am not going to lie…I was really upset about 3/4 of the way through the book, I will not post spoilers but if you read the book, you will get why. Just when my anxiety was at its highest level, the book ends. What! I have so many questions. Some of the indigenous people written about, could be real and are they? Why were some people not affected by the noxious cloud and why were there such a variety in gruesome creatures.
When Dan and Stephanie entered the depths of the cavern, I was in awe as much as they were. This author, with his incredible way of writing, draws the reader into this story about this town fighting a powerful entity. The words used within these pages have a way of weaving a powerful story worthy of being included with other great writers in the horror genre. Even as I reach the end of this book I cannot help but wonder what is in store for this small town. Yet, do I want the story to be over? 💀💀💀💀💀.

The small mountain town of Garrett Grove is hiding a dark secret that's about to be accidentally unleashed.

It starts the week before Halloween. The citizens are busy decorating, planning, and living their normal day to day lives. Along with their regular activities, strange things begin to occur. A mysterious illness begins affecting the children of the town. The morgue loses a corpse not long after it's placed on the autopsy table. People get the strange feeling that they're being watched. None of them have any clue about the terrors they're about to experience.

This book picks up right after book 2's ending, and this is when EVERYTHING really starts hitting the fan. In the first two, you think you know who will be safe throughout the series, and this is when you start wondering "Is ANYONE safe here??"
