My best friend and I have been operating our local witchy emporium for years now, and we’re confident we’ve healed all manner of curses, hexes, and the like…
Until a gorgeous white-haired sassy vampire who goes by the name of Elliot walks in. In his nearly 2500 years of life, he’s bedded many people. But he seems not to be able to *ahem* perform. He’s convinced his ex-boyfriend has cursed him.
Unfortunately, there’s only one way to remove a sex hex. That’s through sex magic… and he’s convinced the two of us would make great bedmates.
Suddenly, I'm mated to a vampire, kissing my best friend, and wondering: how feasible would a time-walking spell be?

Alex La Bruyere is an acquired taste, according to her wife. From a young age, she was told she’d be a writer someday… although the people who said that probably weren’t expecting it to be this kind of material. She has a Bachelor’s in English, so she’s not only proudly embarrassing her family but her professors by using her degree to pen smut. She believes in hedonism and will absolutely recommend you take the day off to read that book you've been meaning to read. She’s originally from St. Louis, Missouri, but now lives in Orlando, Florida with her furry children, within driving distance of most of her partners. She wants you to live your best smutty life, whether that's through fiction or if it translates to the real world.
Trigger warning: cheating chapter 18 she forgives them instantly and then they agree to be a threesome but him and Pastel together without his mates consent is straight up cheating.
When someone is your mate you just assume that means mutual exclusivity. No they had not specifically stated that but it is assumed. If he cheated with anyone else but her best friend she never would have forgave him and he would have ruined everything. But because Celine is too good of a person she saw that Elliot made Pastel happy and Pastel was in live with him and she forgave them so Patel could have happiness.
This was 3 star until chapter 18 then 1 star from then on I could not forgive the cheating even if Celine could, so it ends up 2 stars all together. I was into it until he cheated with her best friend in chapter 18 and yes they eventually all get together but what kind of best friend cheats with your mate. Pastel became a 1 star character for that. And luckily for Pastel Celine forgives her instantly but if she didn’t she would be totally justified because they cheated. I was so disappointed in Pastel and Elliot it ruined the rest of the book for me.
There should have been a cheating trigger warning. In authors 1st book Pyramid Stunt both the people cheating forced Peyton too so that was totally different and Peyton was not a willing cheater, but in this one Pastel and Elliot are both willingly cheating no coercion or force.
This was a fun read but maybe just not for me personally. I think that the author could have gone deeper in the world building and magic systems as well given more depth to the side characters as they seemed a little one dementional. I did like the dynamic between the three love intrest and how they touched on not only mental health, but overcoming insecurities and healing from abuse. I appreciate that kink and power play dynamics were brought into the intimate scenes and safe words and aftercare were discussed. However, I do feel that there was not enough open dialog between the characters. Again I did enjoy this book, I just did not connect with it deeply for it to be rated higher for me. I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
A Sanguine Solstice is an FFM queer poly romance with tons of kink and tons of spice! It's about Pastel (witch), Celine (witch), and Elliot (vampire).
There are a lot of potential triggers in this book so definitely look them up before diving right in. I wasn't sure how I would feel about all of them, but overall I'm pretty happy with how things were handled and how I felt about stuff.
The first spicy scene is non consentual - one character would have consented if asked and one definitely wouldn't have. That's not generally something I enjoy, but I feel like it was handled in a way I'm okay with. It's addressed multiple times throughout the book and Elliot apologizes sincerely without expecting forgiveness. I may skip this scene when I reread.
Every other part of the book was so much fun for me! There's a ton of spice, but there's genuine plot, story, and character development happening so it doesn't feel like mindless erotica. That can be fun, but its not always the vibe.
The universe and magical system is pretty standard for modern romantasy, but I still found it enjoyable and liked how things were handled and explained. The characters are fun and there's tons of witty banter. Maybe we'll get a book about Mia someday?!
I picked up this book for the FFM, fated mates, and vampires. On the FFM front, it felt like things were handled pretty realistically and respectfully. Poly books tend to be ridiculous fantasies or actually good. In my opinion this was a good representation as someone who isn't poly.
The way the fated mates was handled was really fun for me! I read all kinds of fated mates nonsense and it can kind of bleeding together. This stood out because there definitely wasn't any instalove or obsession like you often see with the trope. There was a lot of hate and distrust that gradually warmed up, aka enemies to lovers. That whole plot point was really nice and I loved to see Celine and Elliot's relationship blossom.
The vampire aspect was pretty typical for romantasy vampires. It felt reminiscent of many vampire bad boys we know and love, but in a fun way! Elliot didn't feel like a rip off or a shame. He felt like a love letter.
Speaking of Elliot, he has an extremely traumatic past with a 2500 year long abusive relationship. There are several flashbacks that go into detail on the abuse along with Elliot talking about it. As an abuse victim myself I was nervous about this, but I really enjoyed how it was handled. It was realistic and very relatable. It will absolutely be WAY too much for some readers, but I'm at a point with my past where I was okay with it.
Overall, I really loved the book. Pastel, Celine, and Elliot are all really interesting characters in their own ways and seeing their dynamics play out was fun. The HEA was satisfying and I can honestly say I'm not left wanting anything. (Except a sequel, because I'm greedy!)
I didn't like this book at all. I have never read a MF dubcon scene as bad as this. The way Elliot was introduced did not endear me to him, which I imagine was intentional, but as the author attempted to give him redeemable qualities, so you as the reader could understand better why he was the way he was, I still didn't see the appeal. He didn't deserve Celine and he sure as h3ll didn't deserve Pastel. Then again, I didn't think anyone deserved Pastel. All of the characters were 2D, maybe even 1 dimensional, and I couldn't get into the story because nothing was shown to me. Facts about Missouri were thrown in my face randomly by Pastel, facts about witches were thrown in my face randomly by Celine, Elliot and Pastel. The world building in this one was totally surface level, just enough to build a story around, and I was expecting more in a book of this length. Moving on to the spicy scenes: Bad. I read mostly FF romances, but I enjoy a good MF scene now and again. Every scene with Elliot in it was aggressive in a way that did not hit. I didn't enjoy him feeding off of the FMCs every time they were intimate, and the kinky aspects of the scenes just turned me all the way off. Don't get me wrong, I love kinky stories. I'm always down for some MD/lg, edging, breeding kink, restraints, praise, etc. But the way these scenes were described just made me cringe. Suddenly Pastel is calling Celine Mommy, Elliot is spitting in everyone's mouth, and dild0s are being called “vegan c0cks”. If I wasn't told this was a romance I wouldn't have believed it. The two hundred million times the MCs talk about loving each other in the last 30 pages of the story did not make me believe that this was a love story. I. Felt. Nothing. This was a story. One that I wish I hadn't read. It needed to be cut in half because a lot of it was useless information that did nothing for world building or the plot, and the author should've just embraced what this story really was-a smutty love letter to a character in BG3. For the people out there who don't give two effs about the game, this one is not for you. 2 stars because I finished it, but more like 1.5
I received this book as an arc read and this is my honest review.
I loved the idea and storyline of this book. It was a fun read that I did enjoy, there are several triggers so be aware before you read it. I love that this book touched on so many topics! I had a slight ick with the “cheating” part. I yelled at the characters, but come on, it is a vampire and if we think about vampires they do as they please and are usually unsavory characters. Everyone can’t be an Edward Cullen lol the other ick I had was the one FMC’s behavior. She came off completely childish. While I love the whole grumpy/ sunshine trope, sunshine doesn’t equal childish to me. She’s supposed to be in her 30s. Other than that, this book was a fun read, there is character growth with all the MCs and I liked seeing that. They each worked through some past and present traumas. And the fight to accept a mating bond to someone you didn’t immediately like was well played out. This book is not for everyone, it has many dark subject matters and a bit of humor. If you like vampire romance books with a touch of twisted humor, this is a good read for you! While this book isn’t a favorite, it was a fun read. I would read it as a pallet cleanser. I gave this book 3 Stars and 3.5-4 Spice (this book was spicin)
"A Sanguine Solstice" was a quick palate cleanser for me - It has a fun storyline, with plenty of mental health representation and acceptance which I really enjoyed, and a poly relationship between two witches and a vampire.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I gave it a three star rating because while I enjoyed the storyline, I felt like the characters weren't fully three dimensional - there was a lot of the author "telling" versus showing the reader things, and the author could have absolutely dropped some of the endless list of tropes that seemed to pop up left and right (sometimes coming out of left field and feeling gratuitous) for the sake of fleshing out each main character a bit more and inviting readers to become more invested in them as people and concentrating on the "overcoming trauma," and "being true to yourself," themes that were touched on but seemed like an afterthought once the throuple started sleeping together.
I didn't really *feel* anything while reading this book - so if that's okay with you and you're into some spicy queer paranormal kink, then absolutely go for it. Personally, I wanted to have at least one main character to root for, but didn't quite get that with this book.
For the guys, gays, theys, thems, girliepops, and everyone in between:
IF YOU LOVE BG3's ASTARION, SASSY LADIES, ROPE PLAY, DUBCON/NONCON, and WITTY BANTER THIS. IS. FOR. YOU!
This is the sophmore novel by Alex and she NAILED IT. What isn't there to love inside these covers?! Everyone is a smartass: LOVE. Everyone is in love but refuses to own up to it: LOVE. The spice that spices: LOVE.
I've read it twice. No regrets. I legit just wanna snuggle up because it's almost like it was made for me?! It has so many amazing zingers and banter. I'm not kidding, even if you don't "get it" the banter alone is worth the read! If there is one thing that just tickles my fancy, it is when characters are sassy and then have to eat their words hahaha
I am a black cat, this book has one or two. I am sassy, this book has one or two. There's even the lovable character who just wants what's best for everyone and is secretly pining and the HEA that comes at the end makes the subtle heartbreak of watching them pine is just *chefs kiss*
I was kindly sent an early copy of this book, but sadly it's a DNF for me. I was aware of some questionable aspects of the story but not others, so this is about it not suiting me.
Don't get me wrong, though - it's a fun book! Starts out beautifully, with great writing and humour, and our protagonist pair are adorable. It manages to not quite become Astarion fanfiction (in full awareness!), but when the very first spicy scene happens under duress... I was getting serious ick. 'But you both want to really, plus you're hot' is not an excuse to force anyone. Boundaries appear to not exist and that's a problem for me.
Also I was a bit confused about the ages of some characters. 37-year old twin brothers who speak like kids, insults that border on slurs... yes, this is comedy, but they're still adults, right?
I'm sure this book will find its audience, but sadly don't think I'm among them.
If you are looking for a book that is 90% straight smut this is for you. There is plot but it's definitely smut driven plot. I did like the near reality of the book. AKA, there was a ton of real-life references and being from the area I enjoyed actually knowing the references firsthand. 2 Witch best friends meet a vampire has sex to break a curse the vampire has on him and they turn into a weird thruple with a bi awakening.
I will say, some of the terminology turned me off just because of the over use of it but for the most part, it was a good read. If you're not into heavy BDSM this one isn't for you. The only really major critique was there was a moment where a character 'safed out' and 20 minutes later still 'finished' that bothered me.
On the whole, I did enjoy the book for what it was.
I received an advance reader copy for free, and I am leaving this review Voluntarily.

I received an ARC copy from Book Sirens in exchange for my honest review. Overall this book is fun, well-written and quirky. I loved the queer/poly representation and the way the author touched on mental health and depression. My biggest issue started in an early scene in the book where the line of consent was extremely blurry between the MCs and unfortunately I just couldn’t get past it. There was also a moment that happened between the MCs that I would consider to be cheating as I didn’t feel like it was explained or justified. It was before they were officially in a throuple and it felt like again, lines were blurred. Those two moments really affected the book for me as I read on, unfortunately. This could be a really great read though for the right person, so check the trigger warners (there’s quite a few!) and decide for yourself :)
This sophomore novel by Alex is a delightful read that showcases her remarkable growth as an author compared to her debut! From the intricate character development to the relationships they form, the story adds a layer of urge to embark on the next chapter of their journey.
I appreciated the cultural aspects in the book and the representation of diverse mental health issues. The conversations between characters in regards to ways of healing were also noteworthy. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The characters of Elliot, Pastel and Celine are all interesting in their own right, and their dynamics was great to observe. The happy ending was satisfying and left me feeling content and fulfilled!
When life gets tough, I know Alex's books are going to give me warm fuzzies and great spice. A Sanguine Solstice did not disappoint. I loved some of the cultural infusions in the book and appreciated the representation of different mental health issues, diversity, and healing conversations between characters. If you're looking for a way to spice up your Spring Solstice, I cannot recommend this book enough!
I have never read about a vampire who wasn't HOT. Now add witches and you have my attention. I encourage you to take the triggers in the beginning of this book seriously, this book is intense. I read a digital copy of this book and could still "feel" the heat. A cold shower won't help either! What a ride this story is.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I had hoped. I think I just had trouble getting past the Main Male character's manipulative ways. I did read this and initially I did enjoy the early stages. There are some really funny parts like the male vampire who has been hexed/cursed by an ex so he can't have sex.

What do you get when you have two witches and a vampire that are all broken? You find love. Celine and Pastel are both witches that own their own shop and they meet Elliot a vampire who needs a spell taken off of him. Only Pastel was looking for love and fell in love often. But the chemistry is out of this world.
Just a sweet love story between two female witches and a male vampire, and a grandma ghost with boundary issues, that’ll have to you feelings all the feels. It’s got funny banter, secret angst love, and family dynamics that’ll have you laughing and crying. It’s got slow burn and insta love simultaneously, and hot spice separately and together.
This was a fun and spicy queer poly read for me and was so much fun! Not only was there a genuine plot, but there was a lot of spice and character development! Another book Alex La Bruyere knocked out of the park!
Read this book so freaking fast. I liked it, the push and pull between Celine and Elliott, and the squishy lovely dovey shit between Elliott and Pastel. And then the love between the girls. I overall enjoyed the book.
An FFM romance clearly dredged from the soul of a “useless” lesbian whose two great loves are A) her straight BFF/roommate and B) Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3. I really can’t think of anything gayer than that combo, honestly. Still cute.
This book is instalove and instalust, and if you're cool with that, this book is for you. I enjoy the hate and love, the banter, and just the overall vibes.
This is not book for everyone. It is a dark paranormal. Check trigger warnings. Overall it met my expectations and the banter between characters was unexpected. Love the HEA.
Some of the scenes are fire and some are totally not my style. I enjoyed the fantasy elements. However there is r*pe and other relationship violence on page. Heavy book, some excellent some awful.
This fast-paced poly MFF romance had everything vampires, magic, drama, hilarious banter, and plenty of spice! It felt like a super fun Astarion-inspired fanfic with a magic system that gave major The Craft vibes. The mix of soft lovers, enemies to lovers, and friends to lovers made for such a dynamic and engaging read. Overall, a wild, steamy, and entertaining ride!
This book was like a pile of delicious nachos that you get a hockey game. Absolutely delicious and satisfying.
Alex’s growth as an author is substantial from her first book to her second. The depth to the characters adds a layer to the story that keeps it in the front of your mind even while you aren’t elbows deep in reading. The relationships flow so well that you just keep wanting the book to continue.
And you will in fact be standing in the middle of the fresh produce at the grocery store and find yourself thinking about Elliot and how he would handle things. Pastel will become the character you wish you could have sit on your bed while you pick an outfit. And Celine will be the one you wish you had there to cock an eyebrows while you deal with someone you would rather not.
Overall SS will be the perfect little spring snack to welcome in the new season.
Now. I’m off to find some nachos. And a tall, pale vampire.
This book is funny, spicy, sassy, engaging. I loved the way it captures the reader's attention and keep us in the story page after page. If you like fast paced sexy tension this is definitely the book for you!
