Waiting for the Rancher

Rate this book
Hazel Noble loves her job managing the mares at High Country Ranch. As the foaling season begins, she gets to spend even more time with the horses . . . and with her secret crush, Maverick Oakley, the owner of High Country Ranch and her brother Sterling’s best friend.

When Maverick unwittingly ruins Sterling’s wedding, he goes from best friend to worst enemy. With the rift between their families, Maverick is faced with the possibility of losing Hazel, and he can no longer deny how much he’s always cared about her. The trouble is that he and Sterling made a vow not to court each other’s sisters, and he doesn’t want to break his word and cause further problems.

Maverick gathers the courage to speak with Sterling about their vow, but Sterling demands that he stay away from Hazel. When a tragic accident strikes, Maverick is forced to finally choose where his loyalties lie—with his best friend or his best friend’s sister. Lifetime bonds formed through years of shared experiences become the scaffolding upon which Sterling Noble of Noble Ranch, Colorado, and Maverick Oakley, of High C Ranch, Colorado, have learned to navigate life. Everyone in Summit County knows that their friendship has buffered loss, family pressure, and social conflicts. In the Spring of 1879, when one of them breaks a pact they’d previously made as teenagers, the ripple effects are felt for miles.

I wasn’t planning on reading this series, High Country Ranch, but I was encouraged to read book one to get Violet Berkley’s backstory. I also wasn’t planning on bingeing this series opener, but these cowboys demanded my attention and I couldn’t let them down! Consider me in for the long haul. I’m so glad I read this one before I started on Jody Hedlund’s upcoming series, Noble Ranch, because now I understand Violet’s story and how she got into her predicament.

I also wasn’t planning on meeting Maverick Oakley. Giddy Up! Wow. Let’s just say you don’t want to miss those cowboy kissing scenes!!! Yes, it’s a clean read.

Reading about male friendships and the angst between buddies when a bond is broken held my attention and endeared me to them all the more. I don’t often read books with this focus, especially cowboys and their emotions, so this book will be unforgettable for many reasons.

Don’t miss this one! It’s on Kindle Unlimited.

I’ll never get tired of Jody Hedlund’s Westerns! Each story is new and exciting, and Waiting for the Rancher is a great start to Jody’s High Country Ranch series. I am so excited for more stories about the Oakley siblings—there is quite a lot going on in their lives that captivates the reader in the current book, but also gets them excited for the next. I’m about to dive in to book two, Willing to Wed the Rancher, and I can already highly recommend adding this series to your TBR. 4.5/5 stars

I love a good Best Friend's Sibling trope and Secret Crush tropes! Combined together and that's even better! I loved everything about this book. I wanted to savor it but also to read it all and see what would happen for Hazel and Maverick. Let me tell you, I was hooked! I loved every moment of it and didn't want it to end.

Maverick finds himself in hot water with his best friend, Sterling, who just happens to be Hazel's brother. There's a big misunderstanding but Maverick is trying to help is friend out, Sterling just doesn't know it. Poor Hazel is in the middle because of her loyalty to her brother but also her secret love for Maverick and for the fact that Maverick is her boss. And she loves what she does working with the horses.

I loved the chemistry and banter between Hazel and Maverick. Oh my! They've never come out and shared their love for each other and it tries Maverick when Hazel decides to turn the tables on him and starts flirting with the other cowboys. Hahaha! Those scenes had me giggling and cheering both of these two characters on. What transpires was so good!

I loved how Maverick handled the situation with Hazel and Sterling. I had a lot of respect for him in doing so. Both of the main characters had to work through issues from their past but those issues also helped them in figuring out and strengthening their friendship to more. I love how Jody Hedlund writes her characters. They have real problems and struggles and I love watching how they come to solve them and not let those things cause them to not progress.

You'll love the fun ending. You'll love the whole book! Especially if you're a fan of this author's books, you won't be disappointed! And there will be more books coming in this series!!! Yippee!!!

Content: This one has some spice but doesn't cross the line for not being clean. There are some passionate kisses but nothing further than kissing. Some mild peril but nothing overly graphic.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

“I don’t want to be with a man who chooses his best friend over me.”

Maverick is in a tough spot. He and his best friend promised they’d leave each other’s sisters alone, but years later when they’re all grown up, that promise becomes hard to keep. Maverick falls fast and hard for Hazel, but pursuing her might jeopardize an already shaky friendship with his best friend Sterling.

Jody has written a couple of other western series that I absolutely adored, and I’ve really been looking forward to this new series that also takes place in Colorado – HIGH COUNTRY RANCH. It’s a fabulous start to the series, and I devoured it in one sitting.

The tension and romance between Maverick and Hazel was so well done, along with the beauty and hardships of ranch life, and some light faith elements. I loved the themes that everyone makes mistakes, the need to forgive others as well as ourselves, and of letting go of guilt and moving on.

There are five books in the series, and I can't wait to see how each one unfolds.

You can expect—
Brother’s best friend
Mutual pining
Forbidden romance
Caretaking
Heat without the spice
Character growth
HEA

CW: death of a parent

Steamy!!!!! The author does it again as she starts a new cowboy series set in Colorado! The sparks fly between Maverick and Hazel throughout the story but intertwined throughout is some good old-fashioned fist fights as well. The tension between romance and relationships is strong in this story and I can't wait to read how the series unfolds.

Thanks to Bookfunnel and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

What a great start to a new series! As the early events began to unfold, I felt like calling out to Maverick to stop and not put himself in the middle of the situation between his best friend and the woman he was about to marry. I really felt for Maverick as he was only trying to help, but actually made things even worse than they already were.

I loved the tension between Hazel and Maverick and the way Maverick began to realize that he had feelings for his former best friend’s younger sister. What a struggle they both faced as they questioned how the other person felt while their love for each other continued to grow. Yet, Maverick was an honorable man and tried his best to stay away from Hazel and honor her brother’s wishes. This definitely upped the romantic longing between these two and made it even sweeter when they were finally able to admit their love and be together.

I loved this book from start to finish and definitely recommend starting this new series. You can begin with this book, or there is a connecting novella about Maverick’s older brother, Weston, that you could read if you wanted to. You do not have to read it before starting this series, though. The novella is called Claiming the Cowgirl and can be found on its own or in the Christmas Bells and Wedding Vows collection. It is technically the last book of the previous series, but can be enjoyed without having read the other books, too. And it is such a great story, as well.

This book started out great! A dumped groom at the altar. Then the groom’s best friend kissing the bride. However, it turned into a cheesy romance after the 2nd chapter. I have been reading Jody Hedlund books for years and the quality of her writing has gone downhill. She used to write historical fiction but now I feel like she is marketing all of her books to readers who just want a clean and dumbed down romance. I need a book with more depth. Please Jody, go back to roots and give us a historical fiction book again. Maybe if you stopped writing so many books in one year you can try writing one excellent book a year.

This one starts with a bang! Or maybe that’s a pop? Either way… there were some punches. Oh, yeah and a kiss. From the bride. But not to the groom. So you can guess why the fists flew.

Maverick thought that if he took the blame for what his best friend’s bride-to-almost-be had done that he could salvage the marriage. But it didn’t. The marriage didn’t happen. And he lost his best friend. And nearly lost his broodmare manager.

Hazel harbored a secret crush on Maverick for years. But he never flirted with her, he only ever treated her like a little sister. After the fallout from her brother’s almost wedding she misses a day of work. That day not seeing Maverick… opens her eyes. Those feelings aren’t gone.

Through the trials and hardships of life can Maverick and Hazel find each other? Can Maverick break the pact made with Sterling, to never date each other’s sisters?

I couldn’t put this one down! Jody hooks you in and doesn’t let you go… I need to know what happens in the next book!
The physical attraction was off the charts in this book, and the kisses were swoony!

If you like sweet, clean cowboy romances you’ll have to read this one!

But, be careful! You’ll want to have the next book ready… and you’ll want to read the Colorado Cowgirls series to find Maverick’s brother’s story, and if you read the Cowgirls, well… you’ll want to read the Colorado Cowboys series too 🤭

The start of a new series was a home run! This newest series by the wonderful Jody Hedlund is off to an amazing start. There are so many elements that I loved about Maverick and Hazel’s story, here are just a few:

• Brother’s best friend/best friend’s little sister
• Whispered conversations in a barn
• Having trust broken, then working to rebuild it
• Forced proximity
• Working together
• How Hazel and Maverick help each other overcome past difficulties
• Emotional and physical healing
• Sizzling chemistry (and I mean off the charts, swoony and happy squealing chemistry)
• Sibling love and support

Overall, I really enjoyed the first book in the High Country Ranch series. I happened to be sick when I started this so I was able to pretty much read this in one go while resting. Which I’m so grateful for as I don’t know how I could’ve put it down for very long. I just HAD to know how things would work out for Maverick and Hazel. While the road getting there was bumpy, I’m in love with their Happily Ever After.
And while I know this series is about the Oakley siblings, I’m hoping and praying with everything I’ve got that we get Sterling’s story. (And yes, I know I can look at the blurbs for the books to find out, but I actually hardly ever read those. I like going into a story not knowing what it’s generally about. So yes, I’ll be incredibly impatient and hope for his own HEA.)
If you love swoony western romances with heartthrob cowboys and strong and caring heroines, this is the perfect book for you!

Set in 1879 Colorado, Waiting for the Rancher is a stirring, engaging start to the High Country Ranch Series! The series centers around the lives and loves of the Oakley siblings—Maverick, Clarabelle, Ryder, Tanner, and Clementine. The Oakley family was introduced in Ms. Hedlund’s Colorado Cowgirls series and another sibling Weston Oakley is featured as the main character in Claiming the Cowgirl, the last book of that series. Waiting for the Rancher is Maverick’s story. The well-structured, fast-paced plot with some surprising twists kept me absorbed from the beginning to the delightful ending. Expertly crafted, relatable characters captured my heart and imagination. Maverick and Hazel’s friends-to-more romance has its ups and downs with chemistry that soars off the charts! After reading Maverick’s story, I can’t wait to see what is in store for the remaining Oakley siblings! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

Jody Hedlund is one of my all time favorite authors. She shines in every genre – YA, contemporary, historical, fairy tale, and western. And her latest book happens to be one such outstanding western: Waiting for the Rancher. Fans of her previous western series will delight in seeing familiar characters return to support a new cast that quickly embeds themselves into your heart. In this story featuring Hazel and Maverick, not only does romance abound, but also tragedy and healing. Prepare to be whisked away into Hedlund’s captivating tale – you will not be able to put this book down!!

I've been a huge fan of Jody Hedlund's books for years now, and I've been eagerly awaiting the High Country Ranch series since she first announced it a while back. So, when Waiting for the Rancher arrived in my inbox, I had to start reading it that very night. I was immediately sucked into the story and kept telling myself, "just one more chapter." One more chapter turned into another, and before I knew it, I was reading the final sentence long after midnight. If that hasn't convinced you to grab a copy, well, keep on reading.

Hazel has gotten pretty good at hiding her crush on her brother's best friend over the years. Her new job managing the mares at his ranch, however, is making it a little harder to keep hidden. And now Maverick has accidentally ruined his best friend's wedding and found himself no longer a lifelong friend, but a sworn enemy. Despite the promise he made to Hazel's brother and the animosity between them, he finds himself drawn to the broodmare barn more and more regularly--and it isn't the horses that keep him coming, not really. Maverick knows Sterling is bound to find out about his feelings for Hazel and decides to get things out in the open, but things go south when Sterling refuses to accept Maverick's apologies and demands he stay far away from his sister. It'll take a horrible accident to help Maverick finally choose between his former friend and the woman he's quickly falling for.

Wow. I've loved everything Hedlund has released recently, but this may be one of my new favourite books. Every page was jam-packed, whether it was steamy kisses or fast-paced action. Maverick had had it rough with his father's recent death and now the loss of his best friend, and though his character had its flaws (hello, town flirt), I appreciated how much he grew throughout the story. Hazel was also a fun character; torn between her loyalty for her brother and the love she's hidden for so long. All in all, I loved every page and I cannot wait to see what Hedlund has in store for us with the rest of the series!

What you can expect:
⭐️Secret crush
⭐️Ranch setting
⭐️Brother's best friend
⭐️Forbidden romance
⭐️Sizzling kisses
⭐️Closed door

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, don't miss out on Waiting for the Rancher! It's well worth the lack of sleep you'll likely find yourself with.

I have enjoyed every book in the two series that connect with this one. I can tell I’m going to enjoy all five books in this one, as well.

Maverick and Hazel have the perfect “love story” of being like family most of their lives and then him suddenly realizing he’s loved her all along.

She’s always known she loves him but knew he didn’t see her as anything but a younger sister of his best friend. Always friends and loyal to each other because of their families closeness.

Circumstances cause a riff between the friends but Hazel doesn’t let that stop her from doing her job and listening to Maverick explain the misunderstanding that caused the problem. It would be awhile before her brother could see past what he believes and mend the friendship.

Maverick is a bit taken by surprise as how he feels about Hazel. I love watching them work with the horses and how easy their relationship is. Of course, things can’t always be easy and there are several issues that arise. But they are handled quickly and it ends quite beautifully.

She always has wonderful character development! I love her characters! I enjoy reading about life in the Colorado high country in the late 1800’s.

Waiting for the Rancher is a great start to the High Country Ranch series. It is so fun to get to know the Oakley siblings with their unique abilities and interests. I can't wait to see how each of those aspects play a role in their own tales. Maverick and Hazel's story is one where Maverick continually reasons himself into a corner and then must deal with the consequences of his convoluted reasoning. Maverick is filled with guilt over his father's passing. He works through some of this during the story and thankfully doesn't dwell on it too much. Hazel is uncertain if Maverick will ever return her regard, but Maverick suddenly begins to see Hazel in a new light. Once Maverick realized what has always been right in front of him, their relationship takes off like a shot. After knowing each other for years, Maverick and Hazel already have a deep connection that becomes more permanent once they acknowledge their feelings for each other. The opening scene is very dramatic and shakes up everyone in the story. There are other fun, romantic, dramatic, and dangerous moments throughout. The pace moves so well it is hard to put down. The element of Sterling and Maverick having special proposal plans was a sweet addition to the story. My favorite part was when Hazel took charge at the end, stopped Maverick from overthinking, and went and got what she wanted. It was one of those out-of-the-box circumstances that really make a story memorable. I am hooked on this family after reading this book and can't wait to tag along as the rest of their stories unfold. I received an advanced reader copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Swoony and Swwet

Maverick is loyal to a fault and I loved that about his personality, he had a lot of growth and grieving and healing in this book and it was beautiful. I loved the way he and Hazel interacted and their journeys together. Though there were many twists and turns I felt like they helped each learn and grow in the ways they needed.

Set in 1879 Maverick makes a mess of things when he breaks up his best friends sterlings wedding but was Maverick to blame?

This book had me at the edge of my seat with the twists and turns. From a broken romance to a budding romance.

What stood out the most was the relationship between Maverick and Hazel; sterlings sister. It took them some time to find out they both had feelings for each other but will they end up together?

“I want a man who wants to be with me so badly he’ll defy everyone and everything so that he can have me.” Will Maverick choose Hazel the love of his life or his best friend Sterling?

Very good read! I can’t wait to read the next book in this western series!

I was right!

I knew I HAD to get to know this family when I was briefly introduced to them in Claiming the Cowgirl (side note- DO NOT sleep on Claiming the Cowgirl! It is a chef’s kiss perfectly delicious sweet romance!). Specifically I had a hunch Maverick was going to be a character I love. So romantic. So endearing. So funny. I was not expecting how it started out at all and as nerve wracking as it was, I knew Jody wouldn’t let me down. And she didn’t! I have been waiting for the rancher for about 6 months and it was so worth the wait. If I could give it 500 stars I would. I had a feeling I would LOVE Waiting For the Rancher and I was right!

Talented Author Jody Hedlund has done it again. She has written a sweet historical romance with a swoony cowboy. His name is Maverick Oakley. Hazel Noble, from a neighboring ranch, has a secret crush on Maverick and does not know about the vow to not court each other’s sisters Maverick made with her brother, Sterling. Sparks fly, misunderstandings are around every corner, but Hazel knows in her heart she is willing to wait for her rancher. I anxiously await Book Two in the High-Country Ranch series, Willing to Wed the Rancher. Great series!

How exciting to find out that Jody Hedlund would have a new series of cowboy novels this year! The first novel, Waiting for the Rancher, is a great start to the High Country Ranch series. Connected to the previous western novels through older brother Weston, the High Country Ranch novels tell the stories of the remaining Oakley siblings. I loved Maverick and Hazel and their friends-to-more sweet romance. I even felt my own frustration with the obstacles they faced on the way to their HEA. Plenty of sparks fly between Maverick and Hazel, but no lines are crossed. Reading one of Hedlund’s westerns is time well-spent and always delightful!

I am definitely looking forward to the stories of the other siblings. Now that I have been to High Country Ranch I intend to return again and again.

This is a fast paced story with Jody’s signature style.
If you like:
Brother’s best friend
One horse
Caring for an injury
Childhood crush

You’ll likely enjoy this.

Characters consider physical attraction a lot (even if it’s pg/pg-13 compared to some previous stories).

Hold on to your hats! Waiting for the Rancher’s the first book in a new sizzling, closed door Western romance series from Jody Hedlund. This book grabbed me from the very beginning and I easily binged it in a day. The chemistry was off the charts in this one and I found myself frequently blushing over the flirtatious Maverick Oakley. It’s a childhood friends to more, best friend’s little sister romance that had me glued to my kindle.

Maverick Oakley wants to support his best friend Sterling Noble on his wedding day, but things go horribly wrong, putting them at odds with each other. Though Maverick’s been smitten with Sterling’s little sister Hazel for a while, their long ago promise not to court each other’s sisters plus this new rift makes it nearly impossible for him to give in to his feelings. She’s also his talented horse manager whose gift with horses makes her invaluable.

Hazel’s had a crush on Maverick since she was little. He’s so flirtatious and charming with other women that she feels she doesn’t have a chance with him. But, when Maverick starts turning that charm on her, she thinks she can turn the tables on him. Unfortunately, his falling out with her older brother makes things difficult. When a terrible accident threatens Maverick and he’s forced to choose between her & his loyalty to Sterling, will Maverick finally win her heart?

I loved Maverick & Hazel! I have to admit I was fanning myself in parts because this book had some searing kisses & close proximity scenes that carefully walked the clean romance tightrope without falling off. Maverick’s definitely got the moves & has it bad for Hazel. I enjoyed seeing Hazel stand up for what she wanted even though she loves Maverick. I also enjoyed the character growth. Both have things in their pasts they needed to overcome & a few misunderstandings to work through which kept me hurriedly turning the pages. The ending was an adorable surprise. Now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Highly recommend to Western romance fans! While there are some inspirational moments, the main focus is on the romance. Looking forward to more in this new High Country Ranch series! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

🏔️BOOK REVIEW🏔️ Waiting on the Rancher by Jody Hedlund

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was originally gonna steer clear of this series after not caring for the Colorado Cowgirls series by Jody, knowing this was another cowboy series set in Colorado. I thought the original Colorado Cowboys series was enough for me, and that this was probably was gonna be another dud. But in desperation for any cowboy romance, I decided to give this one a go. And I’m glad I did because I really enjoyed it!

Now, while I did enjoy it and have a great time reading it, I also don’t think it’s anything super special. And I do not mean that in a bad or demeaning way at all! (Because again, I had a great time reading this book!)

First of all, the series of events in this book follow the back overview to a T. Again, I’m not saying that’s bad, but if you read the back, you aren’t gonna be really surprised by anything that happens.

Also the romance, while cute, I will admit is a bit lackluster. Friends to more/brothers best friend is tricky because of course the characters have known each other for a long time and you’re only seeing them now as their feelings develop, so naturally you miss a lot. But in this one, it seemed like Maverick and Hazel never didn’t love each other, if that makes sense. It’s also only 266 pages, so again there’s only so much you can do with that. But I felt at times like I was missing something.

I feel like this reads more of like a review of a book I didn’t like, but I did like it! It’s four stars; I had a great time and really enjoyed it! I thought Maverick and Hazel were cute together, and I was rooting for them the entire time! (Even though Maverick is not the best at making decisions 🫣😅) bless his heart, he had the best of intentions. 😅

I liked the premise of this, and the writing was decent. I liked both families, and I’m super excited to keep reading this series! (Is there gonna be a companion series for the rest of the Noble siblings? Because I need there to be!🫠)

I was disappointed by the time I finished this book. I don’t typically rate a book two stars because I usually add them to my DNF pile. Multiple times throughout, I considered doing just that, but for some reason, I felt the need to carry on and see how it would pan out. I’m not sure I could in good conscience recommend this to someone else looking for a clean read, let alone a Christian fiction clean read.

I’ve seen many posts across Instagram lately that say something along the lines of, “You don’t hate the miscommunication trope - you just hate when it is done poorly.” The more I reflect on that, the more I feel like that is what happened here. The story lacked any true plot. The little that was there missed the mark. The first chapter started so well, and then everything just seemed to fall flat. The characters didn’t have a lot of depth or development. I enjoy the best friend’s sister/friends to more tropes, but I feel like it was written poorly for this novel.

As a personal preference/note, since I know everyone’s tolerance level is different, I wasn’t a fan of the romance either. When any romance was brought up, it was almost purely lustful. I understand physical attraction is part of romance, but when most of the romantic interaction is physically focused or based, I feel like it misses its mark. I honestly felt like this read closer to a Harlequin novel than it did a sweet romance. Of all the romantic interactions, 85% were physically focused (if not more).

The author put a note at the end of the novel that all of the books in this series are “sweet, closed-door romances with plenty of sizzle. The inspirational themes are light, and the romance is the main focus of the books.” I would also like to point out that there was almost zero inspirational or spiritual thread woven in this story. A tiny blip at the very end when a wedding was needed, and that was all.

Waiting for the Rancher
High Country Ranch #1
By Jody Hedlund

Maverick Oakley just wants to make everything all right. Unfortunately, everything goes wrong when his best friend's bride-to-be gets pre-wedding jitters. Now, Sterling wants to kill him, and the rest of the Oakley family has made him public enemy number one. Everyone that is except Hazel.

For years, Hazel crushed on her big brother's best friend. But she knows Maverick will never see her as anything other than another little sister. But still, she has her dreams. And at least she can work with Maverick as she helps care for the High Country Ranch's mares and foals.

Maverick is still mourning the loss of his pa and his ma's decline. Worse, he blames himself for it all. And now that he's ruined his friendship with Sterling, he has no one to lean on—no one except Hazel. Years ago, he promised Sterling that he would never pursue a relationship with Hazel. But something about Hazel is just so right.

Waiting for the Rancher is the first book in Jody Hedlund's new series, High Country Ranch, which follows the Oakley siblings. This series is a companion series to her Colorado Cowgirls. There is plenty of romance for those who love that in their historical fiction (kissing and flirting). This is a case of friends to something more with plenty of roadblocks standing in the way. And who doesn't love a book with horses in it? I know I love horses (I have 10). But those familiar with the author's work won't be disappointed, and if you've never read her before, what better way to introduce yourself to her work than with the first book in a new series.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

A perfect setup for disaster. Maverick is at the home of Sterling, his best friend, who is getting married in just a short while. He is the best man for his friend. Maverick stepped outside to get some fresh air to overcome the emotions he felt again realizing his dad was gone forever. Little did he know when he stepped through the door that the bride was standing just around the corner, trying to get up her courage to tell her groom that she could not go through with the wedding. Suddenly, without warning, Maverick is in the wrong place at the worst time. Without giving it a second thought, he picks up the bride to carry her back into the house for the wedding. Just as Sterling opens the door to check on Maverick, the bride grabs him around the neck and lays a big one on him. What a shock for the groom to find his best man kissing his bride. To make matters worse, Maverick wants to shield his best friend from the truth that his bride initiated the kiss, thinking Sterling can smooth things over with his bride and continue with the wedding. In the meantime, the younger sister of Sterling, who has feelings for Maverick, is watching everything unfold and believing the worst of Maverick. This is only a snapshot of the first few pages with lots of exciting things to follow. One has to wonder how this will ever get resolved when everyone is crushed by this awkward turn of events. With all of his jumbled thoughts and his stubbornness, can Maverick ever restore the relationship with Sterling and his sister, Hazel? What a great story to begin a new series set in the mountains of Colorado in the Old West. I enjoyed the action mingled with the emotional and relational aspects of the story. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

I always love Jodi’s books and I finished this in one day!! After reading her Colorado Cowgirls and being excited about Weston’s happy ending I was delighted to learn the rest of the Oakley family was finding theirs. I’ve read all of her books and love all of them!

I loved the fast pace of the book and it didn’t feel like it dragged the friends to more troupe out too long. There was a lot that made you want to keep reading because you just had to know!!!

I love horses as much as Hazel does and honestly a broodmare manager would be a dream job for me!! I’ve always dreamed about doing something like that so I got to live vicariously through Hazel and her job on Mavericks ranch. She loves the horses and has always admired Maverick from afar figuring his flirty smiles and teasing was never directed at her because he views her as a sister. Growing up together things started as a brother/sister especially with the pact Sterling insisted they make about not courting one another’s sister. Typical best friends sibling reactions in this story but it’s done in such a way that makes sense.

Maverick always has appreciated Hazels work and her steadiness and her friendship and as typical suddenly something happens and the feelings change. But he realizes that maybe he’s loved her all along. The big decisions and heartbreaks in this story really moved me and the happy moments made me chuckle and smile real big. I loved what Hazel did in the end and am excited for more!
