As a writer myself, I know how hard sequels are. And Abigail did phenomenally. Everything she set out to accomplish with this one, she did. Absolutely loved every moment and am so excited for the next book in the series!! I loved seeing the characters, plot, and world building further developed. The editing was also great, and made this book so much better than the first one in that regard. So good. Definitely worth the wait of two years!

Wow, what an amazing sequel! I'll be honest it was quite slow going at first but once I was hooked, I was really hooked! Loved it. It definitely had a different vibe to book 1, but in a good way. It was its own story. Loved being back with the characters though, and meeting new ones along the way. I should have seen some of the twists coming, but I didn't. A really well written series so far. Loved how the ending set up for going into book 3. Can't wait for that one! Sequels are hard to write so well done to the author.

I LOVED the adventures in the dessert and Underkingdom, but everything else was a bit too slow and drawn out for me. The political struggles and intrige just weren't my speed, literally and figuratively. It felt much longer than the first book, but the difference is somehow only about 80 pages.
The mermaid-concept I enjoyed from the first book was also almost entirely gone in this sequel, because the main character is constantly on land. In general this book also felt much more depressing and I would have liked to have read some lighter scenes with Saoirse and Rook together.
I was super excited about From the Mouths of Sirens, but surprisingly, I haven't enjoyed From the Myths of Kings as much. I don't think I will be coming back to this series, sadly. The ending just wasn't gripping enough and I felt less connected to the characters and story in general.
The fact that I switched to e-books and reading in the train, instead of reading a paperback at home might also have had an impact on my reading experience though.

From the Mouths of Sirens - In a world where four rival nations compete for power through a brutal competition known as the Tournament, a gladiator-style contest where champions from each nation fight for the right to rule. The story follows Saoirse, a princess who has spent years training in secret after losing her family and growing up in a harsh environment that forced her to become strong, fast, and skilled in combat. When goes to compete in the Tournament, she is thrown into a dangerous arena where every competitor represents an enemy nation and only one can ultimately bring victory to their homeland. During the training and early stages of the competition, she meets other competitors, including the mysterious and dangerous Rook, whose motivations and loyalties are not always clear. As the trials grow more deadly, she must balance survival, strategy, and the complicated alliances that begin to form between competitors who are technically supposed to be enemies.
From the Myths of Kings - In the second book, the consequences of the Tournament and the secrets behind it begin to expand the story beyond the arena. Saoirse must deal with the political fallout of the competition and the larger conflict between the four nations that the Tournament was meant to control. As she becomes more involved with powerful leaders and hidden forces behind the scenes, the truth about the traditions surrounding the Tournament and the myths that shaped the kingdoms slowly comes to light. Saoirse, Rook, and the others must navigate alliances, betrayals, and the expectations placed on them by their nations. The story continues to mix action, training, political tension, and evolving relationships as the characters struggle to determine who should truly hold power.
These series is a retelling of the littl mermaid, but cooler. I really liked this series. One of the things I enjoyed the most was that it wasn’t overly spicy, which let the story focus more on the plot, the competition, and the world-building. I especially loved the training and tournament tropes, because watching the characters prepare, compete, and survive in the Tournament kept the story exciting and engaging. The idea of a gladiator-style competition between four enemy nations to decide who rules is a really fun and effective premise that kept me interested throughout the books.
Overall, the series was very entertaining and easy to get into, especially if you enjoy fantasy stories with training arcs, deadly competitions, and political tension between rival kingdoms.

Let me start by saying, the world building in this series is insane!!
Without giving any spoilers, all I’ll say is, I love all the truths and reveals in this book. It follows on very nicely from FTMOS, explains a lot of unanswered questions from the first book, but also raises more questions that I can’t wait to find out the answer to in the third and final book.
There were quite a few twists towards the end and I feel proud to say, I had a feeling they would happen. So well written.
Definitely recommend the read.

Wow! What a whirlwind. For the first half of the book, I kept thinking they were too lucky; too much was going their way. Boy howdy did that change in the second half!
I loved the foreshadowing throughout the book. I dual POV is so great! I like catching on to little things the characters do and habits they have.
I feel like it was entertaining throughout. I didn't feel like there was any slow or lagging parts. It was fast paced and engaging throughout.
I hate that the author always leaves us on a massive cliffhanger, but it surely does get me excited for the next book!!

May 28, 2025Back in 2023 I read the first book of this duet. It was not great, but just good enough for me to want to read the second, this book, to find out with happens to Saoirse and Rook. Yeah… Nope. Such a quick DNF at 11%.

3.5 ⭐️ This sequel was a bit disappointing. Most of the book was very slow-paced and I just couldn't get into it. Not much was happening and I was just very bored. But the last 150 pages were really good and action-packed! I won't give any spoilers but it does get really intense and the plot twists are pretty wild. Also, I just loved Rook and Saiorse. There was this one scene at the end that was just amazing with them both. So overall this book was alright.
