This was a fun novella with shifters who all have a lot of personality, and one of them meeting their human fated mate.
Things moved pretty quickly in this one, and being a novella there wasn't a lot of time to get deep into characters I feel like, but I did enjoy this one. What I liked most were all the interactions and how wild the shifters were. I can't wait for Riker's and Nox's stories. And this ending! Sets up the next book very well and made me chuckle.

Rios parents were the absolute worst. I did NOT see that coming when his momma came to visit. Poor guy.
This was so good. I love it when you fall in love with the whole family.
I'm so excited about Rikers book. He was so dang cute and funny.
Nox was such a grumpy butt. But that ending!!! So juicy 🤭

Just wow and overall fun and engaging read that pulls you in from the very first chapter and screaming for the next book.
What a great take on fated mates where they will do anything and everything for their fated. Deacon is pocessive and growly, yet for his mate, a teddy bear. Rio has dealt with enough that once thrown into this wild world, he's finally fully accepted and loved.
Now, for Nox, something tells me out that the tiger is gonna be a handful. Good luck to his mate is all I really can say.

This was okay. I enjoyed it enough, but I wish Deacon had stayed a little more "anti-hero". It's definitely not as dark as I anticipated. A sweet mate story really.

I know that sounds strange but I truly write reviews as a way to help myself remember details about books I've read. It helps whenever I want to look back at what I've read or if someone asks me about that book down the road. However, if you're here reading my review, welcome! I apologize in advance if it seems a bit scattered. It was a long day and it's currently WELL past the time I should be asleep.
To start I want to share that L. Rose is an author whose books I pre-order whenever there is a new release. I rarely even read the descriptions of her new books anymore because I know I'll never be disappointed. That being said, I decided to rate this book at 4 to 4.5 stars. I didn't go all the way to 5 because there are other books by this author that I know I love even more. While still a great book, I just couldn't put it on same the level as the other books I'm thinking about.
L. Rose is dipping more into the world of shifters with this new series of novellas.
There is a trigger warning at the beginning of the book and I do recommend that readers check it out before continuing. Thankfully, I didn't feel anything was too bad but then again I've read some questionable stuff.
In Protected by the Bear Shifter, the reader is introduced to a family that was formed by circumstance and choice.
Deacon (bear shifter), Riker (fox shifter), and Nox (tiger shifter) were all mistreated by their packs and were raised by a foster mother, Ruth (also a shifter). They are a pack of misfit 'brothers' who are described as feral and bloodthirsty.
This book focuses on Deacon and his fated mate, Rio, who is human.
Deacon is a natural leader and a bit bossy. He's also super protective and caring with his fated mate and I love it. The scene when he's getting his mate's food and worrying about the amount of salt Ruth was adding made me laugh. It was just too cute.
Riker is talkative, friendly, outgoing, and a bit quirky. He's a bit like a little kid who is constantly wanting to ask questions and get into everything.
Nox is quiet, reserved, and seems like a bit of a grump. We don't get a lot about him in this book. At least not as much as Deacon and Riker.
Rio is human and the son of a local crime boss but he's nothing like his father. He wants no part of the crime life. Unfortunately, he has no way out. His mother is a mess and usually drunk. She seems to put Rio down frequently blaming him for her problems. Rio doesn't have friends or partners because he worries they would just be people his father could use against him.
Now, keep in mind this is a novella. As such, the story does move rather quickly. We don't get a lot of details about the circumstances surrounding what happened with each of the shifter's packs and everything between Deacon and Rio happens within about two days.
Deacon and his brothers are hired killers. It helps feed their feral bloodthirsty tendencies. They take out bad guys who prey on the weak and are the lowest of the low.
Deacon meets Rio while on a job. He and his brothers are meeting with a crime boss when Rio enters. Deacon soon realizes that Rio is his fated mate and he has to adjust the plans a bit. At least until he can learn how Rio feels about his father and if he would be upset about something happening to him.
The two officially meet the next day when the three brothers scope out the college where Rio is attending.
Rio questions his instant attraction towards Deacon. He freaks, passes out, and wakes up in the brother's home. Something in Rio trusts Deacon's word that he won't allow any harm to come to him. Rio then learns about shifters, fae, and vampires. He learns that Deacon and his brothers take care of people like his father and he finds out he's Deacon's fated mate.
Rio's mother throws him and the brothers for a curve but thankfully no one is hurt. It's after this scene that Rio realizes his mother will not change and he doesn't need her. He has a new family now. One that is supportive and caring. Soon afterward, the brothers also take care of Rio's father.
I look forward to reading Nox and Riker's stories next. I loved the glimpse at the end with Nox and his fated mate! I can just tell that will be interesting. Unfortunately, I'm also upset about it because now I have to wait for it to come out.

I think this may be the first time for reading this author under any name - but I could be wrong. I have to admit that I was engaged from the very beginning. The characters are strongly individual and nicely developed. The plot was interesting if a bit straight forward. World building is minimal.
The pace was fast and this was a bit of a problem as the author seemed to rush past details that would have added depth and richness to the story. In the process holes were created. I enjoy a fast paced story, but not at the expense of needed detail and linking.
On the plus side this writer has a wonderful style that includes humor. I found myself laughing several times.

Overall, this read by L. Rose was OK. I enjoyed the grumpiness of Deacon Riker and Nox. What I didn’t like about the story was some of the sentence structure. There was no grammatical errors but the sentence structure had you reading the line over a couple of times to establish what the writer was trying to say. It didn’t overall take away from the story, but it could make you want to stop reading. Now let’s see what Nox has gotten himself into.

I’m so glad of Audi’s enjoyment of this series has made it pop up on my radar. I LOVE fated mates, even better when there’s a bond and a claiming bite 🥰
Deacon,Nox and Riker are shifters that have been abused in their past, have found a family with each other and their step mom Ruth and now work on eliminating bad people from the world. There’s nothing new or different from this type of story but I still enjoy it!

I love Lila Rose book she always keeps me interesting in every book I’ve read by here. Never a boring moment in here book.
With that being said…….. bruhhhh that ending did me in.. I want to know what happened when Rio saw his professor. Gah 😩 like I know that Nox mate but that ending I want to know what happened next 😂 the 26th can’t get here fast enough. I read this book like in 2 days.
That’s how interesting it was. I enjoyed Rio and Deacon together. I felt that Deacon came into Rio life at the right time. I was happy that they got rid of Rio dad. And his mom Lordy smh 🤦🏽♀️ was a crazy lady because she could’ve turned her life around but she chose to blame her son for the crap that Santiago put both her and Rio through. I do wonder what actually happened to her. But overall I’m just glad that the ending was a happy ending with both Deacon and Rio being together and he didn’t have a problem with Deacon being a shifter and that includes both Nox and Riker being one as well.
But I know one thing I can’t wait to read Riker book when it comes out after Nox being he’s one interesting character.

So glad to see Lila Rose back. Love her stuff. I really enjoyed this new paranormal series about a band of brothers who happen to be shifters who kill. I like Rio and Deacon a lot but I’m very intrigued by Nox. It might have been nice to see a little bit more of their backstory but I did enjoy this one.

This hit the sweet spot, the trifecta of ooey-gooey romance, hot spicy scenes, and unhinged morally grey characters. It was also low angst and a pretty quick read but had lots of action packed into a little package. Definitely looking forward to the next ones and I'll also be picking up many more books from this author!

La verdad es que ha sido una lectura muy divertida y con muchas risas.
Fácil de leer, con personajes adorables y una historia super interesante que me hubiera gustado que fuera mas desarrollada ya que creo que tiene mucho para dar.
Pero bueno lo que he leído me gusto y espero seguir leyendo el próximo ya que son super cortos.

i know it is a novella and everything has to go quick but it felt too rushed for my liking… also idk if it was my epub or what but the narration felt off sometimes (i liked the story in general tho and i will read the others)

This is the first time I've read Lila Rose under this pseudonym. I thought that she publishes polyamorous and RH stories under this name, but this saga seems to be M/M and, at least for now, it remains so. I don't know if the reason she has published these books under this pseudonym is, perhaps, because the universe in which the events take place is the same as that of her other poly and RH works, but it could be.
Anyway, I can tell you that for now this book (and it seems that the second one neither, the third one remains to be seen, because there is no synopsis yet) does not have any polyamory or anything, and we find ourselves with a fated mates story between a human and a bear-shifter who meet by chance.
The central axis of this saga, which I understand will have three books, are three brothers who suffered horrors in their childhood at the hands of their own packs. But the three survived, were taken in by their foster mother, and are now an unconventional family that dedicates themselves to killing those who abuse the weakest.
Their work will lead them to meet with the head of a local cartel, and it will be there where Deacon meets Rio, his fated mate. Being this a short title of barely 150 pages, you can imagine that the theme of fated mates gives a boost to the plot (and although I am not a fan of instalove, I admit that this is the only trope in which I can tolerate it XDDD).
Overall, I liked it a lot, I loved the approach they gave to the couple, how they meet and how Rio discovers the whole thing about shifters, vampires and other creatures that, apparently, inhabit the Earth together with humans. Surprise! I also liked that the author doesn't waste time with Rio trying to process all the information, because yes, I understand that if this were real life, accepting this new perspective of the world would have to be terrifying... but it's fiction and it's only 150 pages, I'm glad the author decided to invest the pages where it matters most, which is in the relationship between these two, in Rio's relationship with his parents and also in introducing us a little more to this universe, without going into too much detail.
What can I say, there are things in this story that I loved, that gave me exactly what I look for in mates romances, and I was fascinated by the chemistry between the MCs, how they interact and how, despite the fact that only a couple of days have passed since they met, they end up forming a quite solid and consistent couple.
Of course, I'm left with a crazy desire to read the next two books. Luckily, the second one comes out tomorrow, which will be Nox's story (which we already see a little bit at the end of this first book), and I plan to read it as soon as it's available on KU. It’s a pity I have to wait a month to read Riker's story, whom I loved with his restless and hyperactive attitude, and I predict he's going to give us a crazy and very epic story.

What can I say, there are things in this story that I loved, that gave me exactly what I look for in mates romances, and I was fascinated by the chemistry between the MCs, how they interact and how, despite the fact that only a couple of days have passed since they met, they end up forming a quite solid and consistent couple.
Of course, I'm left with a crazy desire to read the next two books. Luckily, the second one comes out tomorrow, which will be Nox's story (which we already see a little bit at the end of this first book), and I plan to read it as soon as it's available on KU. It’s a pity I have to wait a month to read Riker's story, whom I loved with his restless and hyperactive attitude, and I predict he's going to give us a crazy and very epic story.

📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖
𝓟𝓻𝓸𝓽𝓮𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝓫𝔂 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓢𝓱𝓲𝓯𝓽𝓮𝓻 𝓫𝔂 𝓛 𝓡𝓸𝓼𝓮
𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: ⭐️⭐️ - I liked the story, but the words used bothered me a lot
𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞: 🌶 - the language pulled me out of the scenes multiple times

This one was a little different as I read all three books in this series at the same time. This review will be the same for all three books, with a mini-review for each book at the bottom. They all had the same rating and spice level.
You may be asking me why I read all three at once or why I continued to read them if it was a two-star read. Well, I dont do star ratings unless I actually finish a book, so I did want to actually rate it. I dont think I would have finished them if I read each book by itself due to the fact that I got annoyed. I am glad that I finished it because while it wasn’t my favorite, I still enjoyed the underlying story. I just got bored with one book and/or wanted to read more about the other sibling more so I jumped to their book, and then I would lose interest or want to know about the other sibling, and jump to that one, and the cycle continued until I finished all three books.
I liked the premise of these books because the brothers had a bad upbringing so they were killers, but they channeled their killing need into taking down bad men/organizations. So I loved that, but I lost interest in the plot and needed to get a different POV.
I loved how each couple was vastly different in the main premise of personality:
𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐎𝐧𝐞: (Not) Mafia and (Not) mafia son. I say not because the shifter wasn’t mafia, but he gave me major mafia vibes in personality, and considering they have so many companies. I say not for the mafia son bc he was a part of it, but he didn’t want to be (no killing type of thing)
𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐓𝐰𝐨: stalker dude to clumsy professor. I thought this couple was super cute and enjoyed them the most out of all three brothers.
𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞: Biker President and tiny psycho shifter. I loved this premise, but since one was a biker dude, the language was not one of my favorites, but I loved the tinny shifter dude because he was the most unhinged.

I absolutely loved this, I’m a sucker for MM relationships and more so if there’s shifters involved!
It truly amazes me how in less than 200 pages can come out something so good?! This isn’t my first Lila/L. Rose book but I’m so excited for Nox and Rikers books!! 😍
Deacon is a growly and possessive bear shifter who with his brothers works eliminating bad people, while doing one of those jobs he encounters his fated mate.
Rio is Deacon’s fated mate and the son of the last work Deacon and his brothers had to do. He spent all his life under the thumb of his father and taking care of his mother’s addictions with drugs and alcohol.
After they met that time, it’s when truly begins their story. And it was such a beautiful one!

Humans and bears? Oh my! What a unique shifter story to read that's hot, too! Deacon isn't your usual shifter. Forget about your typical shifter and dream instead of a bear, but make it a large, snarling one, not a teddy bear. Deacon and his brothers, Nox and Riker, walk into a business meeting, and the air holds the scent of your fated mate, but you can't claim them because doing so would place them in unspeakable danger. Rio is confused by the big man's interest in him but is drawn to him nonetheless. He craves his nearness and isn't afraid of him. The need to be with him magnifies when they are apart, only lessening when they touch. Talk about confusing. Why is the animal magnetism so strong? Lord knows opposites attract and make the best of mates.

Deacon and his brothers are seen as business men, unknown to humans they are shifters and rid the world of other predators that the law can't touch.
At a business deal Rio walks in, he's the son of a criminal and Deacon's fated mate.
Rio enters a world he had no idea existed.
This was an entertaining paranormal romance and I can't wait to read the next one.

This is the first in the series, three shifters who were foster kids work for the shifter council getting rid of bad people. The lore is a bit different in this book, mates are rare and finding one is huge. Deacon is a bear and he’s the first to find his mate, the son of a guy they have to kill. That said it’s not overly dramatic, the son Rio is treated awful by both his parents. His mother is a piece of work. Ruth is awesome, the brothers foster mum. I’m looking forward to reading the sequels.

She's back!
This story is a quick, intense read. Yes, it has some triggers for some people. Lila Rose built a world that is believable and very realistic. It was easy to relate to all of the characters and care about them. I am so excited to read about Nox and his mate. Also, Riker's story will be interesting. I am wondering if we will get more background on their early years and/or Ruth.
So excited! So happy Lila is on the mend and back to writing.

This is the beginning of a great shifter series. The relationship the 3 brothers have is proof that family is more than just blood. All have completely different personalities, that you will fall in love with. Deacon, a bear shifter finds his fated mate in the least likely of places. To see him fall and swoon all over Rio is perfection. I loved Nox the grumpy tiger shifter and Riker the super high strung fix shifter.

I am a die-hard Lila Rose fan! And she didn't disappoint with this new book.
It is a little different from what she had written before and has more of an insta love feel to it.
But if you love the fast-paced insta love, fated mates with a little action in it this is for sure your book!
