Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft is book one in the Grimm Cove series by Mandy M. Roth.
This was a lot of fun and I loved it. Roth had me laughing and falling in love with Grimm Cove and all it’s fun and wacky characters we get to meet.
I love our heroine, Poppy, who just turned 40. She’s getting a second chance at love with an old fling after her ex-husband, who I might add is a cheating sob, divorces her out of the blue. What better way to start a new life than to return to her old hometown with her two besties.
The besties are so much fun. I love their friendship. It’s what we all need in our life is one or two best friends that will support use and stand by our side.
The romance between Poppy and Brett was adorable. I love the second chance they get, even with it being late in life. I really love Brett. He’s sweet and has been looking after Poppy and her kids all these years. He never meant to hurt her, but one miscommunication/incident sent her away and choosing a different path.
Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft treats us to amazing friendships, hot guys, evil forces, surprise powers, and more. I really loved the old heroine, the friendships, and Grimm Cove. It was a wonderful read and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Loved the imagination. Hated the execution.
The elements were good. I like where this was going. But it could have been much much better with a good editing.
I wish this author had taken the time to rewrite the whole thing. It's more of a first draft, than a book.
For all the buzz of a middle aged protagonist (which i loved the concept of), the story itself reads like it was aimed at a much younger audience. The hints are heavily overemphasized, so much so that it gets irritating. Give your readers some credit.
And the insta-love.. And insta- everything really.. The entire story seemed incredibly rushed. Like
(MAJOR SPOILER: )
And the dialogue.. ugh.. Who talks irl using long over-explanatory several-paragraphs-worth of monologues prefaced by the listener's name at the beginning of every new dialogue? (I'm not expressing this right: e.g. "Brett, blah blah blah blah", "Poppy, blah blah blah blah", "Brett, blah blah blah blah") And multiply the blahs by times ten. It was so jarring!!!
There was so much potential here!! It's like a dish that looks mouth-wateringly perfect, but u bite into it and there's wayyyyy too much salt or something.
Such a tragedy.

This is the first book in the Grimm Cove trilogy, it has a small-town cozy feel with romance and a quiet little town where residents are of the supernatural variety. Poppy’s husband asks for a divorce, and she heads home to the house her grandparents left her in Grimm Cove. Her best friend’s from college are making a fresh start with her.
While the romance was fast moving as mated romances tend to be, I loved Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft. Poppy is a witch, but her parents never practice, and she is untrained. She doesn’t even believe in it; she is however skilled with plants and at making potions. Brett the local chief of police was Poppy’s first love, and it looks like fate will give them a second chance.
The author delivered a suspense angle. First, witches are turning up dead and local Brett has been looking for a break in the case. When Poppy and her friends arrive in town, it looks like evil forces are trying to keep her from her ancestral home. I loved all the paranormal woo-woo, some dark, but some delivered humor.
Secondary characters were fantastic from quirky to the delicious back and forth snarky banter as we gain a hint of the romance in book two.

Yay!!! A new series by Mandy M Roth. This little gem was such a delightful read. Who says hero's and heroines have to be young twenty somethings . Forty has never looked this good especially when your given a second chance at love, life and to find something new about yourself.......especially when you find out you can kick some killer a$$ better then most of them.

This is a very charming story, and I hope to continue with the other books in the series.
6 months back in California, Poppy’s husband Thomas suddenly announced at a restaurant that he doesn't love her anymore and wants a divorce. They had been married for 19 years and Poppy is shocked. She runs an online shop of herbs, soaps, crystals, candles and lotions, all of which she makes at their place. Thomas immediately starts talking of settlement – saying he will handle the fees for their fraternal twin children Tucker & Pepper, she can keep her online shop (which he derisively calls a hobby) and wants her to sell her home in Grimm Cove - left by her grandmother to Poppy. Thomas is seeing someone else since 3 weeks, and also admits to other affairs. Poppy has no choice but to leave for Grimm Cove, South Carolina, a place where her ex-boyfriend Brett is. She does not know that he is now the police chief there. There are painful memories as Brett had left her suddenly. Her friends Dana and Marcy stand by her solidly and meet her at Grimm Cove. Grimm Cove is a place where the paranormal reigns, and the residents are wary of normal humans getting to know their secrets. Police Chief Brett is a wolf shifter and Poppy is herself a proctor witch (she does realize it herself initially). There is a serial killer on the prowl in Grimm Cove, murdering witches, and Poppy could be in danger herself.
The characters are all top notch – the irritating & egoistic Thomas, charming Poppy, passionate Brett, Poppy’s grandfather’s protective ghost, energetic & loyal Poppy’s friends Dana & Marcy and Brett’s friends – Jeremy & others. The banter which goes on between the lot in Grimm Cove is refreshing & funny and a treat to read. The strength of the story is in the charm it radiates – you always know which way it will ultimately go. This is a story you can read through pretty quickly and feel good about till much after.

Stepping into this book, was like stepping into my own past, dealing with a cheating husband that had an off/on switch, one minute it was over the next he didn't want it over, I have no idea what came over me, lets work it out. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed even harder, trying not to wake my current husband, while he slept. Brett and Poppy are such a dynamic power couple it is just phenomenal. The characters, oh how I can see Dana meeting Striker from the OPS world and tangling words with that man. I don't want to give anything away, as I am not one for spoilers. So I will say this! GRAB a copy and get reading, you will not be disappointed. I look forward to reading more on the other characters in this book. Great job Mandy M. Roth for another great start to a new series!!

I just finished Cloudy With A Chance of Witchcraft by Mandy M Roth and it was a blast. This new series from Ms Roth is set in Grimm Cove which is filled with paranormals of all types: shifters, witches and vampires, oh my! But don't forget ghosts and hunters too. Enter 3 kickass friends of a certain age, a second chance at love, and a serial killer and this series looks like a winner. I finished this book in one sitting and now can't wait until the next book is out.

Loved it!! Read this book!!
This new series is apart of the new Paranormal Women’s Fiction (PWF) and the author is new to me.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I loved the story as well as the characters. I read this book within 24 hrs. I absolutely LOVED it!! Poppy and her girls, Marcy and Dana are a great trio. I absolutely love the connection that they have!!
I enjoyed the second chance love as well. Brett and his guys sound like amazing guys and I loved how the story followed both Poppy and Brett.
I hope this series will be available on audio, because I would love to listen to it again. If you enjoy the supernatural world and don’t mind the character being 40 then pick this baby up!! I think you will end up loving it as well!!

However bonkers the story is, I don’t really care because this book gives me lots of LOL moments.
This series is very interesting, a group of authors write a series of PNR romance with over 40s as the heroines. Don’t expect to have Kate Daniels here, but it was a fun read 😘.
Now I need to read Dana and Jeffrey book, and while waiting for their book publish in March, I will check out other books by different authors in the series first.

4 stars because of Dana. I was way more interested in Dana's part than Poppy's. And already got the second book. I hope it will be a 5-star.

Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft was such a sweet and funny read! The beginning was pretty tough to get through, as it dealt with cheating, but the book as a whole had a really upbeat and lighthearted tone. It was lovely to read about an older protagonist in Paranormal Romance, since that's pretty rare to see, and I loved how Roth wrote the POV characters: Poppy and Brett.
There was a lot of humor and banter and bickering in this novel and it felt pretty organic. The dialogue as a whole was really well written and it hooked you right from the beginning. Each character had their own distinct personality and it was super fun to read about them all interacting. I especially liked Grandpa and his everything.
The plot wasn't all that complex. It was pretty easy to figure everything out, so the fact that the characters took that long to solve the mystery was a bit of a bummer. The romance aspect was sweet, but the reveal between Poppy and Brett was a tiny bit underwhelming in the sense that it all happened super fast despite the build up in previous chapters. It was still great reading about them finally getting together and what's in store for them.
In the end, Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft was a quick and sweet read. It had great characters and delightful dialogue. I loved the premise of an older protagonist and how Roth wrote Poppy and I'm really really looking forward to the next installments. I recommend this to anyone looking for something fresh--and funny!--in Paranormal Romance.

Mandy M. Roth delivers another winner in this fast moving romp and fun read! Welcome to Grimm Cove, a town filled with paranormals. Shifters, witches, slayers, vampires, and... Ghosts! Oh my!
I loved that this storyline revolves around an everyday, everywoman, middle-ager, and not some young twentysomething chick. There are too few books centered around women in their 40's and 50's. As if life ends in your 30's, or something.
Poppy is turning 40 and her husband of 19 years wants to trade her in for a younger model. She's dealing with middle age and empty nest, as her twins are in college. What's a gal to do when her husband wants the house? Well, she's gonna flip him the bird and head to the house she inherited from her grandparents in Grimm Cove, S. Carolina. But she's not going alone! Her two best gal pals, Dana and Marcy, are moving there with her. These 3 dynamos are going to turn this cozy little cove on its head, because they're much more than they seem!
My only complaint is that Poppy was kinda clueless throughout. Clueless about her husband's shenanigans, clueless about her grandparents, clueless about the entirety of Grimm Cove. She does, finally, "grow into herself", but it was a little too late for me to come to like her. I loved Dana and want to be her when I grow up. She just takes life by the horns & doesn't take anyone's crap. Marcy cracked me up, she knows everyone thinks she's nuts, but goes about her business regardless - looking on everyone with a sort of "parental humor", like "Oh, aren't they cute & clueless?"
Poppy meets up with an old flame, Brett. He's always loved her, but screwed up WAY back in the day - driving her right into the arms of Thomas, her now ex-husband. I loved how protective Brett was of Poppy & how he watched out for her, even from afar.
Now that her divorce is final, will Brett be able to win her back? And why is Poppy seeing her ex's "young thing" everywhere she goes?

I discovered this book as part of the newly released #PWF Fab 13. I think I might have read one of Mandy's books before, but one thing for certain is that I will definitely be reading more.
Fans of Kristen Painter's books should know that Mandy had a very similar writing style for me. She made me laugh, she definitely understands the toils and tribulations of being a woman over 40, oh and she gave me my new favorite term for children - "Crotch Goblins".
This paranormal story introduces a lot of characters that we are obviously going to learn more about as the series goes on. Fate plays a huge role in happenings and fans will know that I am a huge believer in things happening for a reason.
The magik (Mandy uses the k spelling throughout the book - which I am personally not a fan of but it was consistent) is expertly researched. I actually messaged her on Facebook to ask if she was in fact a witch herself (she is not), because there are actual tips and tricks in there that I use. The story is fun, this trio of girls are hilarious, and the world building and secondary characters are totally solid.
This gets a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars from me - despite the fact there are shifters - so that in itself should let you know it's a good read. It really only lost the half point due what I am now calling "The Melanie Clause" - in other words the story was good but I pretty much solved it early on - and as fun as it is to be right, I don't feel that I can give a solid 5 when that happens. When you read it please be sure to come and let me know if you guessed what was coming, and tell me how much you enjoyed it - because I am sure you will.
The book sets the reader up for Dana's story - Hexing With A Chance Of Tornadoes releasing in March 2020 which is available for pre-order on Amazon now.

This gets a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars from me - despite the fact there are shifters - so that in itself should let you know it's a good read. It really only lost the half point due what I am now calling "The Melanie Clause" - in other words the story was good but I pretty much solved it early on - and as fun as it is to be right, I don't feel that I can give a solid 5 when that happens. When you read it please be sure to come and let me know if you guessed what was coming, and tell me how much you enjoyed it - because I am sure you will.

Phenomenal read
Have you ever read a book and before you were even finished you knew you wanted more and hoped the book would never end. Well this is one of those. Great from the start and just makes you want to live in the world the author built. Anticipating the next in the series.
I loved how this has a HEA and is truly a second chance type PNR book, as well as a PWF book.
I highly recommend this book to read.

Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft by Mandy M. Roth was just plain FUN to read. Poppy, Dana and Marcy are BFFs for over 20 years. These women may be 40 but they can and do take names and kick@$$. I liked Poppy, adored Dana and loved Marcy who stole the show many times throughout the story. I read this book in one afternoon and regret that I don't have the next one in the series yet.

I couldn't put it down. I just finished reading this about 2 minutes ago and I already want to read it again. Super adorable and funny. Plus action packed and entertaining! Love Poppy and her girls! I love Brett and his boys! Seriously awesome book and I cannot wait for the next one!

There was one major flaw with this book, but that flaw alone brings this down to ***3.5***
The opening chapter is a brief flash back to 6 months ago, for a scene. The entire rest of the book takes place in a single day .
That's a tough swallow. In this single day, Poppy - recently on the other side of a nasty divorce - encounters her first love. A man who she thought she'd be with for the rest of her life, who ran out of the room one night as they were about to have sex, and then sent her a letter saying it was over and he never wanted to hear from her again.
He destroyed her.
So they encounter each other on this one day, 20 years later. He says hey, I didn't mean anything in that letter, I was an asshole. She says "really?" ... and then is making out with him within 30 minutes, and mated with him within, what, 10 hours?
No. Way.
I'm sorry, but no fucking way. I don't believe it for even a second. She was just shit on by her new ex, who after 19 years of marriage told her out of nowhere that he didn't love her, has had multiple affairs, and wanted her out of the house. He was vicious in the divorce, trying to take everything from her. She then encounters this dude who horrifically betrayed her, and she's like yeah, okay, let's have sex and be mated for all eternity. In like 30 seconds. With nothing done to make her believe he's not a total shitbag who flips hot/cold - just like her fucking ex - at the flip of a switch with no warning.
Guys, I really felt like this book had all the right pieces, but it needed to slow way the fuck down. Make him earn her trust again. Let her slowly open up to him again. Zipping through it like this, it had no weight and just ... it meant nothing.
Also, give her time to come into her powers, understand how it works, etc. Again, everything whipped through so fast that it seemed to not matter at all.
I really liked the relationship between the three women, though - their friendship was fantastic and 3 dimensional and awesome. And that's why I'm rounding this up to 4. But I am hella disappointed. This should have been amazing.

Starting over at the age of 40 is hard enough but finding out that the things that go bump in the night are real and you are one of them could push someone right over the edge. Well someone a bit younger maybe but not for Poppy and her best friends.
Moving back to her hometown of Grimm Cove, South Carolina with her besties Dana and Marcy is just what the doctor ordered. She has so many wonderful memories there as well as Brett, the man who broke her teenage heart.
The little town has some interesting people of the paranormal kind. Bodies are turning up, someone is killing witches, Poppy just may be in for more trouble than she and her friends can handle.
This book is filled love and laughter, I adore both Poppy and Brett's friends. They will have you laughing until your sides hurt.
I can't wait for the next in this charming series.

This is a great new series by Mandy Roth. This book is part of the Paranormal Women’s Fiction Romance group (PWF). The books in the PWF are all strong female lead characters and the female lead is middle age, mostly over 40 years old. I have to admit that I love reading a book with a strong female lead but loving it more when the character is middle age. Since most books are written with younger characters. Poppy’s husband tell her out of the blue that he wants a divorce and he has met someone new. She is surprised but soon realizes that maybe Fate is giving her a second chance. When her grandparents died they left her their house located in Grimm Cove, South Carolina. She has fond memories of the house and town and her first love was from there. She along with her two best friends decide to move to Grimm Cove. Her ex high school sweetheart is also the Chief of Police and her fated mate. She soon starts to suspect that something strange is happening in Grimm Cove and that not everything is as seen and starts wondering if supernatural beings and witches are real and that she is also a powerful witch. I loved the book and story and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

I wanted to love it. It sounded so interesting. But I couldn't get past how heavy the internal dialogue was for the main female character and how long a single dinner scene was dragged out for (2 chapters, 40+ pages) with very little dialogue. She talked how bad her husband and in laws were to her this entire time and she talked about her grandma and how she made soaps well over 20 times. I was not invested in the character off the bat and the character kept talking about her history and memories? I didn't care enough to keep reading. The introduction of the main male lead was interesting and I thought, ah!! It will pick up! Chapter 3 was fast and action and the way she introduced the character was perfect!!! But. Nope. Chapter 4 dragged and again, the long, deep memories of someone who just repeated how much she loved her town but didn't know if she would be okay there?? I got fed up waiting for the actual action to start. Again. I wanted to love it so bad. I loved the concept!!! But I couldn't get past the heavy heavy info dumps.

I really wanted to like this. I do love me a good lady gets her groove back + magic book.
But the entire story (except the intro) took place in one day. ONE. She got married to the man who broke her heart in less than 24 hours. And did I mention her messy divorce? But she's all like, yes let's do it - jump right and oh yay babies! I know the characters had no depth and really were unrealistic in general - but that takes the cake. The killer made little sense too - if she was so powerful and they couldn't find out anything about her despite her multiple murders and living 400 years - and all the sudden the power of friendship kills her? Super anticlimactic. And that all the ladies suddenly knew how to fight also made no sense. Set that up with that they took self defense classes or something. I'm at a loss.
So much potential here. But instead it came out rushed and with so many holes in the plot it was see through - now that I think about it...was there a plot? I'm just extra frustrated because it would've made such a fun series.

Poppy's life goes into overdrive after her husband divorces her.
What I enjoyed:
* The friendship between Poppy, Dana and Marcy is great and I look forward to the next books
* I love towns where the paranormal is normal and look forward to learning more about it and the people who live there
* I like Brett and am glad he and Poppy got another chance.
* The twins seem great, would have really liked to see them meet Brett
What could have been better:
* It was too fast. We get one day when Poppy's husband announces he wants a divorce. Then 6 months later we get basically a day where she and her friends move to South Carolina, learn supernatural is a thing,
* My problem with these plots where no one likes the husband is it is never explained why the heroine stayed with them for so long.

This has been on my TBR for about 2 years and my first book by Mandy M. Roth. Poppy is recently divorced and moving home to her grandparent’s old house within the town of Grimm Cove. Brett is her old flame and the towns chief of police. Poppy’s world is tipped upside down when she discovers she's from a local witch line hand Brett is her faded mate and a wolf shifter. The trail of death between murders created a nice murder mystery atmosphere. I loved Grimm Cove as a town, and I would absolutely live there. It was nice to see Poppy choose herself and Brett finally find his destiny. I liked the supporting characters. I need to read book 2 soon so I can learn more about the rest of them. (3.5/5 rating)
