Fresh off a near-death injury, Lilly’s on the move for rebel allies. But when her temper gets the better of her and pits her against dragons and allies, Lilly finds herself running out of options. Until she meets someone with magic that might just turn the tide of this whole war.

Gabriel hunts for the remaining rebels in Erriath, determined to prove his strength. But as he tries to become the man his father had been, Gabriel realizes things aren’t what he believed. He fights to justify his actions, and his magic. Because the alternative means he’s made a mistake he can never undo.

War is marching closer to Erriath. With allies running few and far between, the rebels will need all the help they can get.

Including the impossible.

Olivia Cornwell is a storyteller with a love of dragons and magical worlds. She writes stories of hope and redemption and familial relationships, and far too many sarcastic characters. She writes to entertain her readers (and may or may not collect their tears along the way) and share the truth of her Creator. At least when she isn’t struggling to control her characters, drinking a lot of coffee, or hoarding chocolate.

She hides out in Ohio, and in her spare time Olivia cuddles her niece and nephews, and yowls back at her cat (who is most likely her familiar). She also enjoys adopting the characters from her friends’ novels and keeping them safe from their own dangers.

This was a satisfying conclusion to the Rebel Empire duology! My one gripe is that UGH, Lilly made some very dumb decisions near the beginning of the book. However, her actions did feel consistent with her character, so it was totally believable—but frustrating, too.

(Random note: Seleen may have won my heart in this one. 🥰)

Certain things I’d been waiting for since the first book finally happened, and it was worth the wait! I admit I got a little nervous near the end because of one thing I did NOT see coming! But…well, I don’t want to give anything away. All I can say is I was happy with how the author handled it.

Looking forward to more books from Olivia Cornwell in the future!

What an absolutely beautiful book! It's such an epic conclusion to this duology.
My heart is full to overflowing with all of the emotions.

The character arcs of Gabriel and Lilly Faine came full circle, and it was wonderful to see callbacks to Empire of Blood (the first book).

I highlighted so many lines and tabbed most of the book!

I loved the themes of light vs. darkness, forgiveness, identity, family, mercy, vulnerability, friendship, and love (to name a few). This book was packed!

There's a satisfied feeling at finishing it. Like eating a fine meal. But it's more than that.

It's a feeling of coming home, of being surrounded by those you love. Of being understood and held. A feeling of belonging. Of coming home at last.

This book is one that stays with you long after the last page, and that invites you to return and visit again.

(2nd time through is even better than the first. Just thought you all should know. )

The short version: THIS BOOK IS AMAZING

The long version:

In Empire of Blood, we're introduced to the Faine siblings and follow them as they are thrown into a new world full of war and intrigue and try to figure out who they can trust and what roles they play in this world.

In Siege of Gold, multiply all of that tension and intrigue and intensity by at least ten. I did not want to put this book down, and ended up reading it in about 3 days, I think? IT'S SO GOOD. It's a solid book on its own, and as the close of a duology, it does not disappoint!

The story picks up very shortly after the end of Empire, and immediately Things Happen. Lilly needs allies, and Gabriel is starting to question whether he's chosen the right side after all. And I love how there are mirroring elements of the Faines' arcs, but how they are also distinct. There are new parts of the world to see, and new characters to meet (enemies and allies alike), and secrets that keep you guessing and also fearing for the characters (well, except Zal).

But even though the stakes are high and the world is full of darkness, Siege is not a hopeless story. There is danger. There is betrayal. There is loss and guilt and regret and uncertainty. But there is also light and loyalty and family and hope.

So if you're looking for a story set in a world full of magic and intrigue, with characters who will absolutely steal your heart (*cough cough* Annor brothers *cough cough*), the Rebel Empire is definitely a series to add to your TBR!
