William R. Garlington - The Great Divide
Legacy Publishing, 2004.

Garlington successfully writes a short story for adults to use in teaching children to resolve conflict. He writes with a mature, yet easily relatable voice throughout the story. He find inspiration for all of the "bean" characters in his lifelong friends and family, but brings does not confine them to these persons. Garlington packs The Great Divide full of heavy dialogue, which was a risky, but well played choice. This much dialogue can weaken a story and suck the energy out of it, or make the characters jump off the page like it did in this case. Overall, a great choice for adults and teachers wanting to instill correct conflict resolution in their children.
