In Andy fashion he does a great job communicating the importance of mental toughness through his 75 hard program. I read his first book in 2019 and completed 75 hard, phase 1-2 and failed on 3. Now is my year for the entire live hard program. Very practical in every sense. Must read if you want to change something or a lot of things in your life.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a great book with great content. However, I did not realize it had the 75 hard book within this book. The first 10 chapters are completely on mental toughness, which was great. The middle part of the book was the 75 hard book, which I had already read. As nice as it was to have a refresher, I comprehended everything I read the first time & retained it. It challenged me to re-read it. As it was a nice refresher, it was not what I was looking to get out of this book. The last section of the book is all about Andy Frisella’s Live Hard program. There were lots of things that I learned about it. It inspired me to want to complete the Live Hard program at least once in my lifetime. 3 stars not because of content, more so because it was not advertised clearly that this book also contained a previous book in it to which I paid over 30 dollars for. I wish the middle section had more information on mental toughness, rather than it being a book I already read. This is however, a great book for someone who has not read the 75 hard book! You get 3 different types of information all in one!
I started doing 75 Hard challenge first but after 23 days I got an injury so I had to stop working out for a few weeks. At that time I got this book and really enjoyed reading it. It gave me clearer understanding of the challenge and I figured out that I did my first attempt not exactly how it supposed to be. Today I am starting it again, now with my friend, so this time I will finish it right!
My rating of this book is not based on its content but on its structure. As I’ve found myself reading self-help books I’m always disappointed in their inability to be digested cover-to-cover. These books are meant to be that way and available as references instead of fluid narratives. In the case of Andy’s book, I only really benefited from/wanted to read the first 3rd of the book, which contained his rumination on mental toughness. The remaining chapters covered his infamous 75 Hard and LiveHard programs. Being a listener of his podcast and having active social media accounts, I’m well aware of what 75 hard is. If you’re interested in that program, this book is his resource for how to successfully complete it. It just isn’t the thoughtful narrative I was hoping for.
This was the most "bro" book I've ever read. I am starting the 75 Hard program tomorrow so I read this to get motivated and understand the guidelines better. It definitely is not required to read this but it was interesting to read about Andy's past and how he came up with the program.
It was a little repetitive and could have used an editor.
Andy Frisella is not for the faint of heart. Neither is his recent book, “The Book of Mental Toughness.” Billed as the official guide for people hoping to succeed at the three-phase LIVE HARD program, the book smacks you right upside the head immediately. Frisella doesn’t mince words, forcing you to call yourself out in every paragraph, i.e., “You—and you alone—are directly responsible for the state of your life.” and “You—and you alone—get to choose if you will be miserable or happy.” If you can’t face up to this kind of critical introspection, don’t bother with this one. If you can, then this is definitely worth the read.
Probably the most enjoyable self-help/improvement book I’ve ever read in my life. Andy’s way of explaining and focusing certain points is so straight-forward that it’s like he’s speaking directly to you. I created a list of my top favorite quotes throughout the book that spoke to me and the list is very, very long!!
At least 10 pages every morning over coffee before the little one and the wife wakes up was a success and a phenomenal way to start the day!
This was a great book. It gives you the basics of the structure of mental toughness and how to grow it. We seem to think that we have to have a god given skill or we are just unlucky the truth is you got to build mental skills, just like physical ones. Also gives a solid breakdown of the whole live hard program. A way to build mental toughness. Totally worth the read. He writes like a conversation so it is easy to read plus. Smaller more palatable chapters help also!
Excellent book for self-development. It is self published & if you can read only for content you will gain a lot of tools to reach your goals. (As a former teacher, I struggled at times to look past grammatical & spelling errors.). Definitely worth the read & I will keep it on my shelf to reference again.
I have so much respect for the man who wrote this book. Andy is not for everyone, and it takes a special kind of human being to see the method behind his madness. But if you've tried everything and you still don't have that killer mindset then I highly recommend reading this book and getting on the live hard program. Podcast Real AF episode #208, listen and never look back!
I've read this twice and will probably read again and again! Every step of the way through the book, I experienced what was called out for myself and those around me. Mental Toughness is not something many people seem to have these days. This is a foundational guide to get there if you really want it and are willing to work HARD at it!
A bit repetitive; if you know Andy, you know why. The fundamentals of being the best you can be are found here, and this does a great job at detailing the 75 HARD and LIVEHARD programs. This is a book I'll revisit and recommend to others who what to improve their lives and reach their maximum potential.
I read Andy's 75 Hard book back in 2021 when I went through the program the first time. I'm currently on day 30 of 75 Hard and reading this over the past 15 or so days was a great encouragement. The update from the original book is well worth the read.
This book is for anyone at any stage in their life looking to do better and be better. Andy acts as a mentor but also as a friend throughout the entire thing. After reading this I don’t know how you could not want to absolutely crush every goal you have in life.
I love having the written copy of the entire LIVEHARD program, and I’m thankful to Andy for making this book happen. I’ve previously read 75 Hard, and this book lived up to that one in spades! Worth the read!
Easy to read, hammers the point home and gives you clear and bold instructions you can very easily apply to gain mental toughness. Andy has a superb podcast too. He adds in good, simple anecdotes to draw inspiration from.
Great book. Easy to read. Motivational. Outlines the 75HARD program, which I intend to do but have yet to start, as well as a HARD YEAR program as well with three extra phases. But great information throughout whether you want to do the programs or not.
I read the first 75 Hard book when I started the program. Why? It pumps me up. It’s a refresher — simple, impactful, and motivating. I preferred the original, as this one tended to drone on a bit. That said, I appreciate the message, and the program has genuinely changed my life for the better.
Want to learn how to change your life? Want to learn how to develop fiscal? This book helps you master any excuse you can make. Following the program not only helps you mentally but also physically. Taking on tasks and things I never thought imaginable. And this is just the beginning.
Very rarely do you get this level of detail on a plan to achieve mental and physical improvement. Frisella wrote the prescription to make life better, now I have to suck it up and jump in or out, there isn’t any ambiguity in the book. Leettts Gooooooo!!!!
Actually not that bad, for what it is. Yes, it is a very bro-y voice, but if you go in knowing that and wanting to learn about the program, it’s pretty motivational. That said, 90% of what’s in the third section (“LiveHard”) is literally a repeat of section two.
Great info. Some of it is him just explaining what you need to do with some.added stories. If you are doing the 75 Hardl/Livehard program. It's worth the read..
First of all I do not remember the last time I ready almost 400 pages in a book. Super loved this book and the info in it. 2025 is going to be drastically different and for all the good reasons!!
Loved it. Really forced me to get out of my head and stop victimizing myself. I’d suggest it to anyone who is intense and extreme about their health and wellness.
