There is so much tenderness in these pages. And an ache that is palpable for the speaker’s father and for the speaker’s son, but the ache is there because there is so much love. These poems invite the reader to take their time, to really listen, because every single line works, and is expertly crafted, to build onto each other. This book deserves all the stars. Inclusion of hyperacusis also adds deeper meaning to the imagery in the poems. And lots of different forms used from couplets, to haibuns. All around a triumph of a book.
A book of poems that’s a meditation on the death of Mohyuddin’s father and his own fatherhood. The unusual structure of this volume is both effective and amazing, as is the imagery such as “the wintering touch of a child’s eagerness to become older, their impossible wish for deathless tomorrows.” Deep, spiritual and rich with words and the unrelenting effusions of the human heart.
