I don't actually have any manure to manage, but since I am interested in all things garden-related, I picked this up at the library. This small book is concise, clear, and has pictures, too. It goes into a little bit of soil science, the chemistry of nutrients needed by plants and supplied by manure, the various methods of collecting, storing, treating and spreading manure, how to calculate your needs, how to buy it and sell it. The book is aimed mostly at small farmers, but mentions the needs of larger farms, and smaller gardens. The best part of this book may be that its very practical information, complete with formulas and tables, is suffused with a sense of enthusiasm. As the author, Kopecky, writes in the conclusion, "I see manure not only as interesting, but as amazing and glorious as well. [...] Have fun spreading the wealth!"
