There’s a target on his back and no one knows why.
Professional gambler Drew Phoenix hasn’t met a problem he couldn’t charm his way out of—until now. Three genetically-related siblings barge into his life, bringing with them nothing but trouble. The kind of trouble with bad guys and big guns trying to kill them. Drew calls on Maggie O’Toole, a smoking hot FBI agent, for help.
Maggie’s mission in life is to protect the innocent. She jumps in to help Drew and his siblings. She’s attracted to Drew and their chemistry is off the charts, but her job and mission come first. And Drew’s the kind of guy she usually despises. He runs from trouble. She runs toward it.
When Drew heads to Boston to defend his poker title. Maggie insists on coming as protection. The two leave the safety of the group and head to Boston. Right into a nest of bad guys.
When there’s a gun to Drew's head, life gets pretty damn clear.
Nan spent her formative years as an actress, singer, dancer and competitive golfer. But the need to eat had her studying accounting in college. Unfortunately, being a successful financial executive didn’t feed her passion to perform. When the pharmaceutical company she worked for was purchased, Nan got the chance of a lifetime—the opportunity to pursue a writing career.
She’s a five-time Golden Heart finalist and lives in the Midwest.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
Five stars just isn't enough!
This series is so intriguing and full of suspense. The romance portion can stand alone but for the reader to fully comprehend the complexity of the background mystery, the series should be read in order.
As with the prior two books, this one kept me glued to my e-reader. I have a tendency to skim some pages but not with these! The author has me reading word for word. I'm afraid that she will drop an important "clue" and I will miss it!
I adore this series. Thinking about "designer" children is one that really makes me think and ponder. This series is told in a multiple POV format. The two main romance couple plus the "baddies"!
If you want a fluff story, this isn't for you. This series is all-engrossing, fully mind twisting. It keeps you guessing and wondering.
There is just one or two short sexy scenes before closing the door.
Deception is book three of the Designer Children series. This book can be read as a stand alone but you will miss some amazing twists and turns if you don’t start at book one. I highly recommend this series!
Phoenix and Maggie are the third couple in the series. Phoenix is a professional gambler and Maggie is a FBI agent. She met Phoenix in Vegas when het friend thought that phoenix might be cheating. He just wins too much. After playing against Phoenix she knows that he is not a cheater. He is just really smart!
Phoenix is being hunted and Maggie is trying to keep him safe even if he thinks he doesn’t need it!
This is book three in the series and this story has just gotten better and better! I just can’t put these books down. I never reread books but I think these will be my exception to the rule! I just love the twists and turns and all the excitement of this series.
A must read. It draws you right in like the ones before. I just love this series. Ms. Dixon is amazing. I have many books by Ms. Dixon, and all have been fantastic...but this one is truly intriguing. So many twist and turns with what’s going on with Drew and Maggie. Oh but not to mention with all the other characters in the previous books. Harris Torrington, Ashe Bristol, and Paige who we later meet.. Sunee, and Kay as well. You must read these books in order so that everything will make sense. I love all these characters.
Deception, the third installment to the Designer Children series was as good as the rest. I'm definitely hooked on this series! If you have stumbled across Deception, I highly recommend going back to the first book, Discovery, and starting at the beginning. There is a very involved plot line that is winding through the series and if you don't start at the beginning, I feel that you will be confused. Each book features one of the "Ashland" children and why someone is trying to kill or capture them. Deception is Drew Phoenix' story. Drew is a professional gambler and met FBI agent Maggie O'Toole during the last book. She has captured the eye of this committed bachelor in a way that no one ever has. To say that Maggie lives for her job is an understatement. She meets Drew after being called to investigate him regarding his poker playing skills and gets drawn into the "Ashland" children's drama when she is present during an attack. Now Maggie is in Houston, assigned to the case and is spending all of her time with Drew. This is a true opposites attract story that is surrounded with mystery, drama, intrigue and love. I know that there will be at least one more book because there are still many questions regarding the "Ashlands" and who is after them. Deception was told from dual POV and has a bit of heat and plenty of action.
I’ve been so enthralled with this series. I loved the recap at the beginning of the book so we could get up to speed with the two previous books before this one started. I thought we might not have so much intrigue in this story but was I wrong, I feel like this story had more ups, downs, and everything in between than the previous two books. I really like Drew and Maggie but was a little concerned that Drew was so cavalier and decided to go rogue in a way and still go to his poker tournaments especially with what had already happened and not knowing who was responsible and I loved how we refer to them as the ’baddies.’ I’m personally not a fan of the FBI agent McDaniel but to find out about Cara and her role and especially with what happens to her, still a roller coaster of a story. We also seem to have something brewing between Piper and FBI agent Greg. Another great story by this author and I so loved the ending and how even though they haven’t known each other long, they have become the family they need, I hope that continues and gets stronger. I also enjoyed the way they made the brother comment about checking out anyone Piper might be with. The way this book ended, it sounds like another story is headed our way especially if we get to see something happen between Piper and Greg. Great series!
Deception ~ Designer Children #3 by Nan Dixon A Romantic Suspense. PUBLISHER DESCRIPTION There’s a target on his back and no one knows why.
Simply...Just brilliant! I have been following this series from the very first book, I can definitely say it is one of the best Romanic suspense series I have ever read:):) I love the way Nan keeps you the reader engaged from the beginning till the end, I didn't want this book to end, so why? I was truly enjoying the story. I shall be lost when this series ends. But, it is, however, a series that I will be returning to again. "Deception" has been written brilliantly by Nan, her characters feel so real, that they feel like family to me, and the storyline is believable that you feel that you too are there. Here we follow professional gambler Drew Phoenix and FBI agent Maggie O'Toole, can Maggie save Drew from "the baddies"? or will the baddies capture one of the Ashlands? Deception is full of suspense, action, secrets, and unanswered questions! I will not give any spoilers, as I believe it will spoil it for other readers. I cannot rate this highly enough, it is so so good, I will say if you are interested in this book, it is best to read the others first and in order as they all follow on from each other.
Thank you, Nan, for giving us this wonderful series, I look forward to reading more.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Informative, Inspirational, Page-turner, Romantic suspense, Realistic, and Wonderful characters
3.5 stars Book 3 of the series. This is Drew’s book. He’s a professional gambler. And ambler, I think. Only worries about himself. Doesn’t want responsibility. Until he meets FBI agent, Maggie O’Toole. Originally she was called upon by a childhood friend and casino owner, to play against Drew to see if he was cheating. He was not. He’s just too smart, one of the designer children. He brings her into the group as they try to solve why they are who they are and why they are being targeted for murder. Maggie is as annoying in this book as Kat was in the last book. She cannot fall in love. Her life is protecting innocents. It got old. Drew “grows up” as the book progresses. The clan gets closer but sadly not very close, to what the enormity of the baddies is. Piper’s book and the series conclusion is next.
This is book 3 in this series. This series is so good that you need to do yourself a favor and start with book 1. The storyline is full of twists and turns, the characters are really good. The concept of this story is interesting and at the same time unnerving. I am not disappointed with this series. In fact, when the book comes to an end, I want more, more, more. I anxiously wait for the next one.
This is the third book in the series. It could be read as a stand-alone but there is a continuing story arc throughout them all. Drew and Maggie are quite a bit alike in a way. Their relationship is a little rocky. The twists and turns kept me hanging on. I am really enjoying this series and this book.
This is the 3rd book in the Designer Children series and focuses on Drew Phoenix who is profession gambler and Maggie O’Toole, who works and team leader for the FBI and who is working to find out why the Designer Ashland children are being targeted and who wants them dead. What neither knew was that they would become more important to each other than just Maggie saving his life. Maggie and Drew work together to find out just who wants him and from Houston, Boston to Vegas and back again, these two explore the exploding chemistry between them to solve this mystery.
Each of these books gets better and better with telling. Maggie and Drew were attracted to each other from the time they met and with the help of the other Ashland generated siblings and their significant others makes for a great book. Nan Dixon takes us on a journey of mystery, suspense and passion that keeps you glued to the page to find out what happens to this couple next while they fall in love. They both have high profile careers, and can they make a relationship and future work for them and trust each other's hearts for the big payoff?
I was given an ARC of this book for my honest opinion which I have expressed in this review.
