Note: This could be cataloged as an Adult book because it's got a lot of detailed information that I do not think most children are going to pay attention to.

While this is still a good book, the title is misleading. I assumed that the book started before the beginning of time and that each page moved us closer to present day via a series of maps of significant historical events, and I guess this sort of happens, except ...

The book is divided by Continents. At the start of each Continent are a couple of pages on "X Continent Today," and "X Continent: The Land," and then we are given "significant" (I believe this is purely subjective) periods / eras for that Continent coming forward through time. At the end of the book is a section labeled, "Our World," which includes topics such a Transatlantic Slave Trade, the different major wars, The Arctic, Antarctica, etc. There is also a Glossary and Index.

My biggest pet peeves, beyond the organization of the book was that there was NOTHING about the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings, which was a turning point for the English language, etc. and I thought more time should have been spent on our Native Americans and Slave Trade in the United States, but otherwise, they did a pretty good job.

Lots of colorful illustrations, maps, informational boxes, etc.
