*DNF* Pros: Delightful opening. Cons: Lost me at chapter 2 with story of present day in another area of the world.
Overall: I found the opening chapter of Grenier and his departure very interesting and I was happy to read more. Unfortunately, chapter two leaps into the present day in the D.R. Congo with a whole new set of characters in what seems like an unrelated story—one that I had no interest in reading.
Plot hole: In chapter one as Grenier and company leave by ship, Andre guards the dock… and no one throws him a rope as they cast off? In fact, as the ship sails away, Andre remains on the dock to guard…? Even further, he takes up arms against three men because…? Grenier and family watch helplessly from the ship. No one brought a bow and arrows or a crossbow to defend Andre, if close enough to clearly see his demise?
Summary: The opening tale of a Knight Templar seemed promising, but the present day story was not what I wanted. I received a free copy and I thank the author for the opportunity to read his work—it wasn’t for me.
It was a well written, clean thriller with some unnecessary expletives shelled out for dramatic effect. It's a quick, entertaining read but has some rough edges.
