Everbound University is the mandatory graduate school for anything that goes bump in the night. Not going isn’t an option, unless you want to be hunted down for illegally inhabiting the mortal world.

All legacies — the descendants of the Four Houses — are required to attend because we’re all cursed, and the only way to break our curses is through binding our hearts in a quintet. Becoming part of a quintet is a dream come true. Destiny fulfilled. A gods-given, merciful blessing.

For me, it’s a hard pass. I can’t be bound to anyone else. Trust me, it wouldn’t end well.

So when I’m placed in a quintet, I promptly reject all four of my matches for their own good. But these powerful, gorgeous, high-profile legacies have no idea how to handle rejection, because…

The cutthroat blood fae shows me his soft side. The charming dragon shifter won't leave me alone. The unhinged nightmare prince calls me darling. And the gorgeous ice elemental is as overprotective as he is cold.

They're the kind of deadly perfection that draws attention. Which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid, since no one can know my secret. I'll do whatever it takes to make them decide I’m not worth the chase. The problem is, no matter what I do to make them hate me, it only seems to have the opposite effect…

Oh my god, HOW IS THIS BOOK NOT MORE POPULAR?! Excuse me while I make this series my entire personality for the next 60 business days. I think this might be my top read of 2024 🥹

I wasn't sure how much I'd like this, because this book has the reverse rejected mates trope, so the fmc is the one doing the rejecting. And I usually prefer my mmc to be the one to do that especially if it's a why choose. But surprisingly, the reverse way WORKS so freaking well in this story.

BRIEF SUMMARY

In a world where monsters and humans live together, Maven, our fmc who's a human, suddenly discovers that she has the ability to wield magic, not very common since Legacies (what they call monsters) are the only ones who are born with magic, but not impossible. When that happens, humans have to join the Legacies in a mandatory academy - the school of magic, if you will.

Maven wants nothing but to survive the academy unnoticed. She's been doing so well acting like a boring, bland, and unforgettable student, until Seeking Day comes and she finds herself not only being matched to four of the most powerful, high-profile legacies, but also the keeper (meaning she's the central) of said matches.

Maven has her own secret agenda, and being in a quintet will only ruin her plans. So, the only way to get rid of this problem is for her to reject her fated mates.

“It’s best if you four appeal for a new keeper because I won’t be in this quintet. There’s no point dragging this on, so I’ll be on my way. Let’s not cross paths again. Better luck next time.”

Isn't she SO sweet???

Except that she doesn't anticipate her matches to be so devoted to her.

The way I blushed and giggled seeing them get so captivated by Maven, and Maven completely not giving a shit about any of them. Romance is not dead!!!

There's just something about four powerful monsters wanting to get to know you despite you doing everything under the sun to make them hate you that just... screams true love.

We have Baelfire Decimus ; the rare golden dragon shifter - one of the last of its kind. Who's basically the golden retriever of the group. He's so obsessed with Maven and a little delulu (ah, he's just like us).

I try leaning down to capture her attention, but she keeps her eyes forward.
Awe. Who knew my mate would be so shy?

Love his positivity!! Denial is obviously just a river in Egypt.

~

My personal favorite, Crypt DeLune ; the psychotic Nightmare Prince. He's the oldest & the one who waited for a match the longest. Everyone is pretty much scared of him, he eats dreams to survive & he snaps necks without batting an eye. He is your worst nightmare. Literally.

“There is none but you for me,” Crypt quietly warns over my shoulder.

But he's also only soft for Maven. Like I said, romance is not dead!

And my second favorite Silas Crane ; the brooding, intelligent, powerful blood fae. Who knows a lot of deadly spells. He's grumpy, and cursed with a paranoid demon in his head...except that being near Maven seems to quiet his fears, something that he did not expect.

“I’ll bleed them dry if that’s what you ask of me.”

Top 10 Most Romantic Love Declaration, if you ask me.

~

And the one who I think I'll be obsessed with in book 2, Everett Frost ; the mysterious, aloof, cold (literally, it's his magic) Professor. He's not the most open in the group, and he's the only one who seems to make it his mission to distance himself from Maven. This delights Maven because that's one less legacy to shoo.. at first, at least.

Smiles.
My stomach flips. I swear on everything holy that she is the most beautiful creature I’ve ever laid eyes on.
And now I know I’m blushing because my ears feel warm.

Except that he's secretly pining for her. But something is holding him back from getting close to Maven.

When the cold Professor who you think hates you can't help but blush because you smile >>>>>>

~

Oh to have four of the most wanted, influential, high-profile, extremely powerful monsters obsessed over you. But here's the catch: these four legacies don't get along with each other.

They grew up together because their families are in the same high-profile circle but they never got along. Their banter is the absolute best part of this book. Them trying to work together to convince Maven they're worth a try??? Gold. This is why I think this works for me, as it's not the usual RH setup. I love watching them trying to bond with Maven individually & develop feelings for her that are completely separate and have nothing to do with the other guys.

I'd like to classify this a slow burn, even though they all pretty much wanted to be with her after Seeking - but they didn't get together then. And probably won't for a while. They want her - but idk if it's love yet, you know? So you still feel the pining. It's awesome.

And I freaking love Maven. Like, a lot. She reminds me SO much of Aelin (though the story is NOTHING like ToG).

She's fierce, so closed off, might come off as a little rude, and unfeeling, but she's also deadly (though she makes sure no one knows this) and she's so unintentionally hilarious.

“Put that shit away before you make my mate sick, too.”
“Oh—sorry, I shouldn’t have brought it up right now,” Dirk says quickly, shooting me an apologetic grimace just as I take my first bite of mashed potatoes. “Sorry if that ruined your appetite, Maven.”
I finish chewing and swallow. “Oh. Right. That’s disgusting.”
Bael’s brows go up. “You’re taking another bite.”
“Because I’m hungry.”

I LOVE HERRRRRR please she's so dry & blank & just... doesn't give a shit. She doesn't want to be this way, she just thinks it's safer that way - for reasons we don't get to know yet. But what I love so much about her is she doesn't wallow, or throw a pity party over it. She moves on and gets shit done. Ugh. I'm in love.

There were a few flaws I noticed, for sure. Like I wish we got to see the guys before Seeking, see their dynamic before they found out about Maven so we could get more sense of them being this powerful beings. And I'm sure Maven is not everyone's cup of tea and some people might find her annoying (I'LL FIGHT YOU...hehe jk.. but am I). BUT MOM I'M BLINDED BY LURVEEEEE. I will happily never take off my rose colored glasses when it comes to this!!

My main fear was I was afraid it would feel too much like an instalusty, instalovey mess. And I guess in some way it has a sprinkle of all that, but because they have a reason to like her; they're fated, and it's also expected in the legacy world to be in a quintet, it doesn't feel ridiculous to me. One of the most enjoyable RH for me, actually.

It's a crime that this book doesn't have the same hype as, like, The Bonds That Tie series. I think it's perfect for people who love it; in fact, I heavily recommend this book for people wanting similar vibes.

Off to the next book I go while praying real hard book 3 gets released SOON. Like, next week if possible. PLEASE MORGAN B. LEE 😭🙏

dnf @ 30%
read date 7/11/24 / edited review 16/12/24

number of legacies mentioned 204
number of quintet's mentioned 161

i decided to dnf this because i found it to be badly written with very little world building. the use of repetitive words was annoying and there was some cringey dialogue i didn't like.
for example:

“Although that’s also probably because he’s a rizz master.”

i wasn't a fan of the female main character and found her to be very cliché and unlikeable. i didn't read far enough to give a solid opinion on the mmcs. i did find the relationships to be very insta-lust with them being completely obsessed with fmc right after the ceremony.

i don't think RH is for me anymore but i can understand why this would appeal to others. this book focuses on relationships more than plot or anything else.

i want to emphasize that just because this book didn't work for me doesn't mean others won't enjoy. all my ratings are based on personal enjoyment and the issues that i listed above are things that i personally had problems with. every reader has different tastes, and while i didn't like this i think many others will.

⊹ ₊ »- 4 stars

I was, of course, unable to put this book down🙂‍↕️. I made the mistake of starting this in the evening thinking I could stop myself after 20 minutes… I was wrong. Whilst not exactly uncommon, a magical university setting is always going to do it for me - especially when you throw in gothic elements, mystery, and four very down bad men.

⊹ ₊ »- characters

Maven is the kind of girl you either love or hate, and I absolutely loved her. She’s the suffer in silence, hard, iconic bitchy type who kills people for fun. I don’t know if she even realises she’s being funny 😭but her dry humour is absolutely unmatched, and her friendship with Kenzie helps balance her out otherwise she might have been a bit too stone cold. The way she cares for people silently just makes me want to hug her.

Then we have the men obsessed with her: Bael - I’m not usually the biggest ‘golden retriever’ type girl (don’t scream at me) but dragon boy over here is actually adorable; Silas - an intense blood fae who is equally as soft for Maven; Crypt - a psychopath that would rip people’s eyes out for looking at her funny yet is somehow also the poetic one; and Everett - our own personal Elsa who puts on a hard front but I know is secretly Olaf deep down.

Their dynamic is unique to what I’ve read before - the mmc’s being the cutie patooties head over heels for her, and her being the bitch (a sexy, queen of a bitch) who refuses them. However, I do think that the way they were all practically in love with her straight away removed some of that extra tension I’ll always crave.

⊹ ₊ »- Writing

The writing was so compulsively bingeable, even though the dialogue sometimes made me do a double take with how gen z it was. It was ever so slightly repetitive with the whole oh I can’t be with them but I want to be with them but I can’t because they’ll hate me but I want to be with them thing, but luckily not to the point of being unbearable.

⊹ ₊ »- Overall

All in all such a fun and addictive read. There are so so many unanswered questions though, which is driving me a little 🤏🏻 crazy, so I’m going straight into the next one (spoiler alert: I’m actually already halfway through).

I already knew I’d enjoy this because bby ariyel recommended this one to me, and I trust her opinion with my LIFE. Thank you for giving me my newest series to obsess over😽x

This book was a wild ride but it was also frustrating as all hell. Would it have hurt the author to have had more than a vague sprinkle of information every 10 chapters or so? Because it definitely hurt me. Granted this is still a 4 star review, would have been a 5 star had WE HAD MORE INFORMATION.

Ok Ok, I'm getting ahead of myself. I understand that the author has a very specific plan for this series and she does a GREAT job at keeping my attention even though the information is sparse. I hope I'm not being mean, I'm just frustrated because I truly loved this and just need to know more.

I have so many questions and I really really really need answers 😭

Had I known I was going to love this so much I would have started it closer to the next books release date because now I have 2 months to wait and stew coolcoolcool 😅

About the story:

The heroine was very hard-headed and tight-lipped about everything with everyone. It was pretty cool and interesting to have her go about rejecting her mates and them sticking to her like super glue. The guys were interesting to get to know. I LOVED how murderous and torture happy they were. Their one-liners were FANTASTIC! I have my favorites (Crypt and Baelfire ♡). I definitely still want to know what their individual curses are though and how they'll convince Maven to stay with them going forward.

The FMC was stoic, unphased, unemotional and could not give less of a f*ck about anything. She was giving Wednesday Addams. I get that there is probably a very deep and complex backstory to come, but I couldn't tell if she was angry or just inconvenienced. Maybe both 🤔

The ‘Wednesday’ personality became more apparent when we met her roommate. This seemed like a yin and yang situation. Her roommate was bubbly, outgoing, chatty and the complete opposite of miserable. I think this character just highlighted the real lack of emotions that the FMC showed.

You know that one kid in school who acted like studying or caring about anything was really uncool, so they put limited effort into anything. Yeah, that was the vibe I was getting. The FMC was just pretty numb to the world, which again I’m sure further backstory would explain, but I just don’t like her personality…

Disclaimer - I DNFed at 18%, so I can only comment on that 18%.

The other problem I had was the MEN. So I haven't had that much exposure to them or their characters, but they are intense. The synopsis for the book mentions the quintet and the binding and the whole destiny thing, but I don’t know about this band of dudes. Some are emitting golden retriever vibes, others are intense with the FMC because their pride is bruised. There are several reasons why they are being so forward. I love a bit of suspense and I don’t feel like I’m going to get that.

I just don’t think it’s my kind of fantasy, but I did just re-read all the bonds that tie books, so I don't think that helped.

If you have read it, do I need to just make it past the 20% mark ?

It's always good to read a well-written RH, now that the genre has gotten so saturated - it's like a breath of fresh air. Some definite improvement points here but overall an enjoyable day spent reading.

Our heroine, Maven (great name) is a late enroller at some university/finishing school-type institution for those with magical powers. As a human-born enchantress, she's often considered inferior to the Legacies (think Muggleborns vs purebloods). She's fine with that, since she's actually enrolled for her own ulterior motives. She has no desire to catch anyone's attention... so imagine her shock when she's revealed to be the mate of four powerful Legacies.

I LOVED that this is a 'reverse' rejected mate story, with the heroine doing the rejecting and the heroes simply refusing to be rejected. Maven is also a quietly funny and much stronger-willed than your typical RH heroine. I wish there had been a bit more chemistry, and more time devoted to all the heroes - some of them definitely come across as flatter than others - but overall, this is written well, flows well, and features an intriguing twist on some established tropes.

⤿ minor spoilers ﹒⟢

second time through and i’m still just as insane about it.

i’ve been waiting forever to reread this, and with the new book coming out, now was finally the time. and yeah. still love it. still one of my favorite reads from last year. i already knew the plot, the twists, how long it takes maven to stop pushing them away—but none of that stopped it from being such a fun time again.

i know magic university settings can feel a little tired at this point, but something about the world here still works for me. maybe it’s the whole legacy bloodlines and monster curses thing. maybe it’s the forced quintet soulmate angle. maybe it’s the gothic castle energy and the fact that no one here knows how to act normal. either way, it’s dramatic in the best way. i love the setup. i love the curses. i love the concept. even if maven wants nothing to do with it.

she does get on my nerves sometimes. the whole rejecting-them-to-protect-them thing drags so long. i get her reasoning, but watching her be cold and rude and push everyone away—while knowing she doesn’t even really want to? not my favorite thing. but she’s still a great main character. sharp, strong, unpredictable, and just unbothered enough to make it fun. plus she’s actually good at stuff. she brews potions. stabs creeps. hexes people for fun. kinda iconic. and her friendship with kenzie was such a good balance. i love kenzie. someone needed to bring the chaotic sunshine energy.

as for the guys? i think crypt might still be my favorite. or maybe silas. honestly i like them all, but those two just hit more. crypt is creepy and intense in the best way. silas is cold, calculated, and weirdly funny. baelfire is drama with a fire problem. and everett is the hot professor i’m pretending isn’t a professor. i still hate the student-teacher dynamic in general, but it’s downplayed enough here that i can ignore it. he’s rarely even in class. he just exists to be mysterious and broody and smart.

the plot is honestly great. maven trying to stay lowkey and failing horribly. the fake alliances. the sabotage lists. the stupid bet. god i hate that bet. like things were going so well and then that happens and ruins everything. genuinely painful. especially because the romance was actually getting somewhere. there’s tension and chemistry and the kind of slow burn where you want them together already. i know where it all leads, so maybe i’m biased, but i still think it works.

i will say i forgot how gen z some of the dialogue is. there are a few lines that really threw me off—like please don’t say rizz in a fantasy book. but honestly? i let it slide. because the book is genuinely funny. and entertaining. and it’s rare for me to care this much about this many characters at once. the legacy lore is cool, the curses are high stakes, and the ending made me need the next book immediately—even knowing what’s coming.

yep. still obsessed. second read, just as fun. possibly more fun. still love the vibes, the drama, and the disaster soulmates who refuse to leave each other alone. can’t wait to reread the next one.

IMMEDIATELY picking up the second book. This was such a good time. Maven, the FMC, is so strong and sexy, and I’m SORRY but I love her. I usually don’t love a why choose because I feel like it’s impossible to like all the love interests the same. And if one of them is so obviously better than the others, why would you need a why choose 🤷🏽‍♀️ That being said… these men are all delicious. I’m not going to tell you about each one of them; otherwise, this review will become too looong.

One thing I absolutely need to mention… Maven is a female dom/switch, and that’s not a dynamic I’ve read a lot of, but wowsy it’s *good*

Not for me DNF

The writing style is really not to my taste. One of my pet hates is heroines who try too hard, to be hard. A lot of characters are written to have horrid backgrounds but you still can root for them. Suffice to say I couldn't get the frown off my face, I did not like the heroine. I'm sure there may be an interesting plot in there but not at the cost of wrinkles.

Morgan B. Lee is a new to me author, but she has my full attention now! My friend found this book, and we decided to read it on a whim. Best decision ever! Maven, the FMC, gives major Wednesday vibes, so I would have read it based on that alone, but I honestly love everything about this story. The writing is phenomenal. The plot, pacing, humor, romance, and spice are perfection. All of Maven's love interests are hot and swoonworthy af. They may be some of my all-time favorite MMCs, which is not said lightly. I can't wait to see what the author has in store for these characters in the coming installments!

Amazing. Addicted & immediately starting book 2.

Four men obsessive & possesive of our FMC - yes pls!

~Each person has a curse (most keeps theirs a secret) & they cannot break this curse until binding their souls to their quintet members. They are mated into quintets by fate of the gods & within each quintet is one ‘keeper’. They are like the groups heart.

”Keepers are considered the ones in charge, but they are also fiercely protected by their quintet because they’re the keystone, so to speak—the core of the group, without which the quintet would break and the curses would return.”

Our FMC and keeper, Maven, has a secret that even we are not privy to. But, whatever this secret is, causes her to tell the MMC’s she rejects their match - which of course they ignore. They persist & are determined to crack Mavens attempts to distance herself. ~

This was fun, had all the vibes, backstories, didn’t take long to get into, and I loved all the characters ✨🖤🫀

•2/5 spice🌶️: this was lower on the spice scale as much of the book was MMCs trying to get FMCs attention, following her, & inserting themselves into her life 🤣 - my assumption is spice will increase as the books go on much like the spice was greater towards the end. Enjoyable all the same.

•5/5 plot, characters, & all of the above

Tropes & Such
-pnr rh
-curses
-fated mates

-MMCs are one of the following: a vampire, dragon shifter, incubus, & professor who is an ice elemental.

*Also, if like me u googled “incubus” that is not the definition of this character. He feeds off dreams & nightmares. Nothing sexual involved.

-No cheating (Ugh the MMCs would never)

-OMD: slightly between the MMCs each vying for her attention (so not rlly)

-OWD: No, MMCs didn’t glance anyone else’s way once they met/paired with FMC🖤😝🙆‍♀️— But, there is one small instance of a character trying to make FMC jealous (while MMCs weren’t around; if they had been they’d of shut it down so quick). If u want full details see below. Promise it wasn’t anything to do w MMCs & I consider this book safe.

** SPOILER BELOW**‼️ 👇

NOTES:
-what was up w that bet? it made sense when Silas said they needed stuff from each other but they literally could’ve betted anything else 🙄 obv it would fucking upset her. like bc they had to get close to her & wanted stuff from each other isn’t good enough reason. (Like ik obv they had good intentions & this bet was a random thing more about ‘getting stuff’ bc they literally didn’t mention it in relation to being w her; clearly they all were obsessed). Also I literally forgot ab this until Everett told Maven.

-I want to know Everett’s curse SO BAD. I want to know why he has to stay away.

-even tho we’re getting glimpses of what’s up with Maven… I can’t wait to find out more.

****’OW’ drama:
there is literally one tiny instance of a fellow student telling the FMC that (before the FMC even came to the school/met them) she hooked up w one of the guys & tried to hype it up they were rlly into her. They weren’t. In MMC pov (to contrast what the person was telling FMC) they mention that once they hooked up w her out of boredom (in their internal monologue) showing they weren’t drooling all over her as the other person tried to make FMC believe. And this “once hooked up” thing was waaay before FMC came to school/met them. MMC didn’t spare a glance at this person. When she was crying in pain after being attacked MMC literally ignored her & was only concerned for FMC (who attacked her 😝). She never comes up after that, she’s then scared of FMC. MMCs don’t interact with this person in the book. In fact, I don’t think they interact with any other female characters at all. My overly long explanation is just in case someone 100% wants full details before reading but as a person who CANT STAND owd, I promise this shouldn’t upset u in the book. It doesn’t read like owd, bc it’s just the ow & her mouth then the FMC shuts her up. There’s no long string of OW coming around and trying to flirt with MMCs - it’s just this one instance & this one girl. If u can’t tell I’m trying to convince u to read this book, it was so good lol.

This is definitely a very slow book, both in plot and in romance, but not in a bad way!

The heroine shows up to this school for people with powers, and claims she just discovered her powers. At the mating ceremony, she ends up being bonded to the four most powerful guys at their school, including a professor. I love all the guys so much, but the heroine is determined not to accept their bond and to complete this "mission" she's on. We still don't know pretty much anything about the heroine, and because she's determined to push the heroes away, the romance is such a slow burn. I really loved the characters and this world and I'm so intrigued what we're going to learn in book two!!

I’m 56% in and tempted to DNF. I never write reviews, but this book is driving me absolutely insane. It uses a whole lot of words to say...absolutely nothing 😪. It's like a word salad, but without the dressing of substance.

The plot? It's on an endless loop: reject, rinse, and repeat. And don’t get me started on the world-building—it’s practically non-existent. She’s a caster, but there’s barely any insight into how their magic works. Instead, we’re subjected to her faux tough personality. Seriously, I’ve met cats with more depth. 🐱

If only we could get some background nuggets of her past—anything to make us understand her a little better. She has every right to be the way she is, but as the reader, I have no context as to why. As it stands, she just comes off as mean. Like, did someone steal her lunch money in third grade? Give me something, Morgan!

All I’m expected to do is trust the process and hope the payoff at the end justifies her actions. Dammit, I love a good RH book, and good ones are so few and far between. With such a high rating, I was hoping this one could get me out of my reading slump. Instead, I’m just slumping further. Urrghhh, I’m mad 😡!

Blood Oath was not a book on my radar, but I decided to give it a chance after finding it on the why-choose site 🙈.
The fact that it hooked me from the beginning was a sure sign that it would be a good read, and oh boy, was I right. The fact that it's only 280 pages long feels a little cruel.

What to expect:
∘ Adult Dark Paranormal Romance
∘ Reverse Harem ― size: small (4)
∘ Academy setting
∘ Multiple POV
∘ Intriguing Worldbuilding
∘ Badass FMC (gives off Wednesday Addams vibes)
∘ Softhearted & cute, but obsessed MMCs
∘ Curses & secrets
Tropes:
∘ Fated Mates
∘ Forced Proximity
∘ Medium Burn
∘ Hidden Identity
∘ Soft only for her
∘ BDSM - Female Dominant/switch

Trigger Warnings: PTSD, mentions of child abuse, death, torture, graphic violence

Plot/Worldbuilding
Maven didn't come to Everbound University to find her fated mates, but that's exactly what she ends up with: a blood Fae, a dragon shifter, an ice elemental, and a nightmare prince—a complication she intends to ignore.

Everbound University is a school for Legacies, the term used for supernaturals in this book. These Legacies have been cursed by the gods, and the only chance of breaking that curse is by forming a quintet, a bonded group. Every year, a ceremony is held to find these quintets.

The plot, like our FMC, is shrouded in mystery and we don't find out what Maven's mission is until later on in the book, though there are a few hints scattered throughout.
Crumbs of information are provided, probably with the intention to keep us satisfied, but they only leave me hungry for more. I'm eager to uncover what Maven is hiding, who or what she is, and why she's convinced she'll be killed if the truth comes out.

Characters
Maven
Maven is a newly awakened caster, or so we're led to believe. Her past and her power are closely guarded secrets, ones even us, the readers, aren't privileged to know.
She's a strong character, a skilled fighter, with a sassy, albeit sometimes bitchy, attitude that still manages to charm the hell out of her mates.

The MMCs
Speaking of her mates...
She doesn't want them, and she makes that clear from the very beginning. Yet, they are not deterred in the slightest. On the contrary, they seem to take it as a challenge to win her over, and it was so freaking entertaining to watch them try to get over their animosity and their egos to impress her.

Their personalities were so well-highlighted, that I had no problem distinguishing between the four of them.
Silas, the studious cutthroat blood fae.
Crypt, the psycho and unhinged incubus, known as the nightmare prince that everyone fears.
Baelfire, the flirty goofy dragon shifter.
Everett, the cold and somewhat withdrawn professor.
Despite the dark vibe of the book, their banter was entertaining and lent a lighter tone to the story. They each have a soft side reserved only for her.

Romance
I couldn't call this book slowburn, as their relationship is not developing quite that slowly, and so I settled on medium burn. Might not be strong feelings involved quite yet, but we will get there, and I can't wait.
P.s. We have some kinky scenes in this first book that were hot, my friends.

Conclusion
A why choose romance with a hint of mystery and intrigue, this book managed to captivate me and left me wanting more. I picked it up after the book hangover Her Rabid Beasts left me in and it was the perfect choice. My only regret is that the sequel is not yet published...

I must have read this book at the perfect time because everything just worked for me. I could see it not working because the FMC has a very strong (or rather lack there of) personality, the writing style is not for everyone, and the MMCs were giving instalove.

For me though, I loved Maven’s dry, stone cold exterior. She talked about how basass she was and while there was a bit of showboating, she proved herself with her actions.

While some of the plot is a little shaky with world building holes, I did enjoy the writing style. It was quick and entertaining, and surprisingly funny at times.

While at first I was hesitant because the MMCs were all steam ahead on Maven which made me think they would be jumping into instalove territory, it was done well here. There’s still that push and pull but in this case, it’s Maven who tries to push them away. Their relationship is complicated enough that it kept me entertained even with the MMCs accepting her easily.

Just under 300 pages, this was a quick read. It was fun and witty and perfectly entertaining.

I think the potential of what this could be is better than what we got in this book. I had a hard time connecting and relating to the h because the author gives us nothing of who she is or what she has been through. It’s hard to understand why she is making the choices she’s making. The world and magic and the academy are interesting. I’m excited to see them work together to defeat these monsters that were talked about but I don’t even know if that is ever going to happen. Idk, there was just so much going on I have no clue what direction the author is going to take this.

(3.5⭐)

well this was definitely fun and interesting. I honestly felt bad for her mates LOL but also it was kinda funny seeing how obsessed they were with her😭😭 still damn they were so sweet idk how maven was able to resist for that long??? current favs are definitely Crypt (always falling for the psychos who show their soft sides to the FMC🥹) and Silas (theres just something hot abt him idk i dont make the rules). Bael (full name is baelfire which is goofy as hell im sorry😭) is a complete cinnamon roll though so he's up there with being a fav but Everett... feel nothing at all (tbf he wasn't really there anyways) but ohhh he so screwed things up in the end although it was bound to be revealed eventually anyways.

with that ending, I'm so diving into book 2 I'm dying with questions I need answers too!!! (also wth happened in maven's past it sounds so heartbreaking😭)

Just no

This could have been great but between the “rizz master” comment, the not like other girl fmc and the over the top boundary pushing that made me want to jumped into the book and yell at her men, it just wasn’t.

I love why choose, I love rejected mates, I love her hiding things and rejecting them because it’s not safe. But this sucked. The Bonds that Tie has all those things but is one of my favourite series, this was just not it.

I was either physically cringing or grinding my teeth for most of the book. There were a couple cute moments but overall I just can’t recommend it at all.

Go read this book!

Obsessed is a mild word for how I’m feeling about this book. Dear god, this book is 🔥!
If you’re a RH fan, you need this book in your life.

I was searching for another book with same name when I came across on this book and downloaded it on a whim. Thank you god!

I don’t want to give away anything and spoil but you have a mysterious but badass heroine (with Wednesday Adams vibe), a gothic finishing school, danger lurking at every dark corner, unique world and powers and solid plot.
Along with 4 heroes;
- a charming and arrogant Dragon ( he cracked me up).
-An uptight frosty professor.
-A psychotic prince who is completely nuts.
-A blood mage with questionable characters and ruthless to the core.

Adding to it, all these heroes are powerful, smitten and obsessed with the heroine and don’t give up on her - you have my kryptonite. It’s also hilarious that apart from her they don’t agree on nothing. Though the boys knew each other from childhood they are also kinda enemies. This makes their dynamic hilarious and unique.

Unfortunately this book isn’t standalone but first in the series and fortunately the next book will be out in June.

Absolutely recommend.

P.s thinking about rereading this soon.

Hated the personality of the heroine. The tough persona got old fast and became cringe. Her little secret after all the push and pull was not enough. And the fact that as readers we didn’t know her big secrets (still don’t) so we don’t understand the constant push from the fmc so it was irritating.

⭐️3.75 Stars⭐️

“This series is for all the ladies who think STFUATTDLAGG is great… but BAGBALTPUICOYF is better.”

Yeah, THAT got my attention.

I don’t understand why this isn’t viral on BookTok. Romantasy girlies, you’ll love this one.

Maven is admitted to Everbound University two weeks before the semester is over, because she’s an atypical caster- a human with magic in her blood. She later learns she has to attend The Seeking, a gods-given purpose of joining a quintet to fulfill a legacy’s purpose. When she’s unexpectedly placed in a quintet with some of the most powerful descendants within each house, she rejects them. After all, she’s there for a purpose and must stay focused. But the four men, a charming dragon shifter, a dark nightmare incubus, a protective ice elemental, and an obsessive cutthroat blood fae, will do anything to win her over.

Things to expect:
•Paranormal Romance (shifter, incubus, elemental, fae)
•Multiple POV
•Violent and Macabre FMC (think Wednesday Addams)
•Obsessed MMCs
•Fated Mates
•Reverse Harem (4)
•BDSM
•Dark Academia (ish)

This book was so fun and easy to read, but don’t expect great writing, much world building, or plot holes answered.

I am actually super pleasantly surprised by this book. I had low expectations, but I really liked it! It's a short book, but it's a different story. The characters are the strongest part - I really like all of the main characters. The FMC is so Wednesday Addams coded, and she's so different and awesome. The guys are all great too - they are the perfect mix. I'm super intrigued by the curses that each character has, and I'm looking forward to learning more about those. Onto book 2!

How come an indie RH writer has more talent in 3 chapters than that Dragon writer who couldn't pronounce the names of the language she stole....ah used in her book?

anyway, this was one of the best READS this year
absolutely amazing for the simple reason that the female lead gave no fuck about the four guys
, unlike other RH fantasy where the h immediately is attracted to the love interests and show numerous cases of BBS, Maven truly and passionately did not want anything to do with the four hot guys who were dying to get her attention. 🤣🤣 and I was there to cheer her all the way

I loved everything about this book
especially since there was like 2% spice
another bonus because the plot took importance and was not rushed or sacrificed for the smut
on to book 2

Maven is the queen of grumpy-girl energy and I love her for it. Every time she let a little vulnerability slip, I was cheering, because wow does she make those boys work for it. And the guys? A whole buffet of chaos: broody one, cocky one, dangerously unhinged one, and the one who pretends he doesn’t care but absolutely does. Their banter and obsession with her gave me life.
Sure, the world-building was a bit fuzzy and the middle dragged while Maven did her “I don’t need anyone” routine on repeat, but honestly? I didn’t care. I was too busy enjoying the tension, the snark, and the “touch her and die” energy from her little harem. Bring on book two.
