He’s the one person I’m not allowed to fall in love with. But I can’t seem to stay away.
Growing up, all I heard was how bad the Hollins Family is. How the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
Troy Hollins is so far off limits, he might as well be in another universe.
Thankfully, our paths don’t cross at school. Not until senior year – when Troy comes to me for help with his classes. Get a passing grade or lose his starting spot on the university’s hockey team. I can’t say yes, can I?
But when he comes to my rescue, I agree to help him. What starts off as innocent study sessions slowly turns into more. Stolen moments hidden away from prying eyes. Changing every opinion I had of him and his family.
There’s no way this thing between the two of us can last. We have no future together. Not when our families hate each other.
Romeo and Juliet have nothing on our feuding sports families…

Best Kept Secret is the first book in a new hockey series by Emily Silver. It is a spin-off/has connections to the Denver Mountain Lions series also by this author which I hadn’t read ahead of time.
Troy is on an athletic scholarship and needs to keep his grades up to stay on the hockey starting team if he wants his chances at going pro. When he finds out he’s failing a couple classes, he heads to the campus tutoring center to get help and runs into Angie. He’s always been pulled to her, but she’s kind of been “off-limits” since their dads played for rival football teams. But now they’re working together on his studies and growing closer every day.
This definitely reads as almost a prequel to the series, it is the first book and intro to this new team but the hero doesn’t even get signed on with the team until the very last chapter so we never see the team or him playing for the team that the series is named for. The romance was low angst and easy, the couple falls fast and want a future together. We do see how their dads became rivals 22 years ago with the prologue, which does include homophobic slurs. That character does grow and it’s addressed later in the story. I don’t know if this book would have hit different for me if I’d read the series it’s a spin-off from first? While I didn’t feel lost, I also just didn’t get attached to any of the characters. This book does take place while they’re in college, so I am curious how the rest of the series will go once we are with the NHL hockey team instead!
I received an ARC from the author, all thoughts in this review are my own.
Oh, how I loved this story. I loved it so much that I devoured it in no time. I don’t know if I could have dreamed of such a good book to start this new series.
If you like, Hockey Romance, College, New Adult, Forbidden, Student/Tutor, then this story is definitely for you.
Troy is the captain of the campus Hockey team, and to keep his position on the team, he’s going to have to find someone to help him improve his grades. Angie is also a student, she’s not like her roommate, also best friend, Harper who like going to parties, she loves quiet and to study. She’s kind, lovely and loves helping others, so she offers to tutor those who are struggling in the campus. And that’s where it all begins...
They were terribly endearing and I loved their story so much. Their attraction is incredible and I found myself blushing severals time when they were together and loving the feeling. I, like Angie, felt like I had butterflies in my stomach. It was so well written and I was deeply caught up in their love. Wonderful characters and story, I loved EVERYTHING in this book.
As you can see, this book was great🤭🥰, and I highly recommend it❤️.
Angie, loving, kindhearted and follows the rules even though she has been ordered to break them by her godfather 😅...her final year at college, and she just wants to graduate, head back to Denver and work as a social worker as well as for her dad's foundation. But that all changes when she starts tutoring Troy, the son of her dad's enemy. And all those rules are suddenly broken.
Troy, gosh this man ♥️ he is just perfection! Hockey...it's not something Troy does for fun, it's his passion and love, he will do everything to keep his position, lead his team to victory and be drafted to the best NFL team. And he can't afford to be distracted, but he needs help with classes or he loses everything he has worked for. Asking for help isn't easy, but he does not realize the changes about to happen in his life.
...Oh my word this book was beautiful. Troy is Angie's number one enemy, but her perspective changes when she really gets to know him. Hours of tutoring, turns to dates(I swear the dates are so freaking sweet) which lead to so much more. Their forbidden love becomes one that they will fight for, but is it strong enough to deal with an incredibly pissed off father when he finds out?
This was a sweet and little spicy college sports romance.
This story felt pretty surface level. The romance developed pretty quickly, but wasn't insta-love. Overall the story felt pretty shallow but a very easy read.
I did love the epilogue and I was glad that the conflict was pretty easily resolved.
When I received started reading this book the first thing I thought was OMG it’s a next gen of one of my favorite characters. The more I got into it I loved it so much.
Troy & Angie are definitely the Romeo and Juliet story. Two families that shouldn’t get along for something that happened with their parents 20 years ago. But these two change it for the better and it was so amazing to see.
Troy Hollins is the star of his college hockey team only issue he needs help passing two classes to stay on the team.
Angie happens to work at the tutor center and the minute Troy sees her he knows he needs her help. But with a snap judgment she tells him no just because of what she had been told about his family.
Yet when she does have a change of heart she finds out quickly that you should never judge someone by what others say.
I loved the progression of their love story and how they fall hard for one another.
Troy may be one of the best book boyfriends you could ever want. Big heart, Funny, Athletic and all around great person.
This book! My heart! Best Kept Secret by Emily Silver was a sweet and swoony new adult hockey romance that had me smiling, blushing, and happy sighing from start to finish. This is book 1 in Emily’s all-new Colorado Black Diamond Hockey series. Plus, did I mention this book is second-generation, and we get to catch up with some of our favorite Denver Mountain Lion couples now as parents. Angie and Troy’s families have a long-standing grudge that has lasted for years, but that is about to change. Angie was a tough girl to crack! I loved her resilience and passion for school. However, in struts Troy Hollins, who completely rocked her world, and gave her everything she didn’t know she needed, like another hockey boyfriend. Troy’s love for the game of hockey and his determination to not let his grades drop was admirable and swoon-worthy. Angie and Troy had this instant, magnetic chemistry once they gave into temptation, and it was HOT.
Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a hockey romance with a hot hunky center, a devoted hardworking tutor, Romeo and Juliet vibes, second-gen, forbidden romance, sneaking around, dates to the zoo, kissing in the rain, cheering for your favorite hockey player, protective parents, college life in San Diego, forgiving wrongs from the past, steamy times, achieving your dreams, and a HEA that will melt your heart, then you will love Angie and Troy’s story. I always look forward to more from Emily Silver!
Angie and Troy’s families have a bad history together. Their fathers have bad blood, so they have stayed far away from each other. But now Troy is desperate for a tutor and Angie is the only one who can help.
They get closer and closer as the tutoring sessions go on and we get to see them fall in such beautiful love with each other. But the problem remains - their fathers seemingly will never get along, so how will they work in the long run?
I absolutely loved this book and this couple! Angie and Troy were the sweetest characters. I loved how they came together and how they were able to stay together with the growth from their families.
I will say - I would love to see a short book or novella or even a bonus chapter or two about one of the fathers and his personal growth from his college days to know. Because I was so angry at said character in the beginning, but by the end I really liked him.
Read Best Kept Secret for: 🏒 Hockey 📓 Tutoring 🏒 Feuding Sports Families 📓 Boy Falls First, Boy Falls Hard
Hockey team captain Troy needs help with his classes to stay eligible for his senior season. Angie wants to refuse to tutor Troy. After all, Troy's dad is the same person who made her father's life miserable in the NFL. But when Troy comes to Angie's rescue, she agrees to help him. As study sessions slowly become more, Angie and Troy must decide if a future beyond stolen moments hidden from prying eyes is possible.
I loved Angie and Troy's story! It just felt like their paths were meant to cross despite the animosity between their fathers. Their challenge is figuring out a way forward, together.
"For a girl like Angie? I'd be willing to break every rule I have to be with her."
I was cheering for these two from the beginning. While there are complexities for Angie and Troy to work through, there isn’t a lot of angst. I enjoyed seeing the story of a couple who are good people and good to each other unfold.
I can’t wait to see where this series goes next since the focus will be on the pro hockey team that Troy is joining.
Side note, this book has connections to the book Sideline Infractions by this author. You don’t have to read it first (I didn’t). I definitely plan to read it soon because I loved Angie’s parents in Best Kept Secret so I want to read their story.
This was such a sweet, feel good book. I loved Angie and Troys relationship, they were absolutely perfect for each other. The base of their time together with Angie tutoring Troy gave me major Naley vibes. I am a huge One Three Hill fan so I loved this.
I liked the side characters, especially Harper, Angies roommate. Their friendship and banter together was fun. Plus a hockey romance is always a fun time.
This is second gen books, but you do not have to read the other series beforehand. The prologue gives you all the insight you need for everything that happens in this book.
If you want a easy, feel good romance u definitely recommend this one 🫶🏼
Best kept secret was an enjoyable forbidden hockey romance. I loved Angela and Troy's instant chemistry and reluctance to act on it given their family history. Troy makes a fabulous hero, ready to put in all the hard work to earn his forever. He's showed great moments of vulnerability that endeared him even more. I loved Angela could admit her perception was wrong and she changed her mind helping Troy with his tutoring. Her helpful and caring nature is one of the loveliest things about her character. These two really uplifted each other in the best ways and that's a relationship I can absolutely get behind.
Troy and Angie are supposed to hate each other because their fathers were rivals but Troy needs help tutoring and they both fall for the other.
----------
Troy and Angie are really good together, I loved seeing their relationship evolve. They aren't supposed to be together so their relationship is kept secret and they don't really talk about the future.
They are however building a strong relationship and I loved watching them grow. They have amazing chemistry and the smut scenes are HOT.
There are cute dates, sneaking around, college party vibes, rain kisses, hockey rivalry...
Also, the ending had me in tears!! I couldn't put this book down. I'm very excited for the next book!
EMILY!! Thank you so much for letting me read this early! I’m obsessed with Angie and Troy!
This had everything, she’s his tutor, he plays hockey, and their families have history! Her dads don’t like his dad at all! A secret relationship with all the heart and heat you’d want! If you loved Tutoring the Player by Rebecca Jenshak and Neat by Kandi Steiner, you’ll devour this one!
Tropes: Sports romance (hockey) She’s just tutor Secret relationship Rival families Boy falls first
Writing is flat and characters are also flat unfortunately.
They don’t know each other, only know of each other based on their dads feud 20 years ago, yet off the bat they are just so familiar with each other as if they have this whole past themselves.
The dialogue is cringey too, these guys are basically meeting and talking for the first time, but it’s as if they already mean something to each other, we didn’t have enough time to see that connection build imo. And it feels like a lot of telling, not showing. So nothing feels real.
Felt like a first rough draft that could have used a few goes of editing for the story to find its spark.
I feel so incredibly lucky to have this a few months before release. Emily, you made me laugh, you made me angry and you made me cry. Such a great book! Thank you for your wonderful words!
“I fell in love with the one person I shouldn’t have fallen in love with.”
🔹️ Tutor & Hockey Player 🔹️ Forbidden / Secret Relationship 🔹 Rival Sports Families 🔹️ Second Generation 🔹️ HEA
Troy and Angie have to be one of the sweetest, most adorable couples I've read in a long time. The way they were so wrapped up in each other, a powerful connection with a natural ease, warmed my heart and I couldn't stop smiling. I swooned over Troy with his sweet flirting and he was simply the perfect guy for Angie. He wasn't interested in jersey chasers, totally devoted to her instead, respectful and looking for ways to try to impress her. And he always had just the right thing to say, my favorite in the rain scene.
“There’s no one else I’d rather kiss in the rain than you.”
I loved Angie! Smart and determined with a big open heart that had so much love and kindness to share, she fit together with Troy so beautifully. And I loved how she made their first kiss play out. She knew what she wanted in life, how she wanted to help people. Angie loved her family unconditionally but her dad had a history full of hate towards Troy's dad originating from decades earlier when they played football together. It seemed to be an obstacle that would be impossible to overcome.
“I’m not done with you, Angie. If I have my way, I won’t be done with you for a very long time.”
Troy and Angie brought out the best in each other and I adored watching their relationship unfold. I loved how Troy broke down Angie's walls to let him in and how unequivocally committed to each other they were as they worked towards building a future together. They were like two puzzle pieces falling into place, unexpectedly finding everything they never knew they needed.
Ultimately, this was a story about letting go of the past and not judging others based on what may have happened before. With a focus on inclusivity and forgiveness, it proved that the past doesn't have to control the future. And that with the love and support from family, the future can be bright and it can be anything you want it to be.
“I will always fight for you, Angie. Whatever happens, it’s going to be you and me.”

Summary: Forbidden love brews as Angela Brooks-Young, warned against the notorious Hollins family, finds herself entangled with Troy Hollins. Despite their families' mutual animosity, senior year throws them together when Troy seeks her help to salvage his hockey team spot. Innocent study sessions escalate into a hidden connection, challenging Angela's perceptions. Yet, the shadow of familial hatred raises doubts about their future, mirroring a sports feud akin to Romeo and Juliet. Angela and Troy must navigate an improbable path toward love amidst family strife.
I loved reading this book. Troy was a sweetheart, contrary to the image her dad’s told her. He did very sweet moments for her and they were perfect. Both of them complemented each other and one kiss changed everything. She didn’t like hockey players because of a bad experience she had before but Troy showed her that she can trust him and she did. They fell in love and their relationship were goals. When her dad’s discovered their relationship Troy decided to leave but he fight for them and do everything in his power to get her back and he did. Troy is the opposite of the typical cocky athlete.
The spice? Very steamy. Troy has a dirty mouth that it’s fire. With the past of the months they become their everything. Besides their families situation, mostly on Angies side, but they couldn’t conceive being apart. Troy did everything in his power to be with her. He was sure that Angie was the one for him and he was determined to make her his forever. They were everything they didn’t knew they needed. Angie didn’t expect to fell in love with him but he never let her go. I was smiling and in awe while reading their story.
“I will always fight for you, Angie. Whatever happens, it’s going to be you and me.”
This book was so good, and besides that I haven’t read their parents series (Denver Mountain Lions Series) Emily provided the situation in the prologue so I didn’t fell lost at all. Behind it’s a message of inclusivity that was incorporated because one situation one of her dad’s, the Denver Mountain Lions Quaterback, had when playing for the NFL. If you are looking for a sweet hockey romance I highly recommend Best Kept Secret and I can’t wait for book 2.
When Emily Silver announced she was going to be writing a hockey romance series, I could not hold in my excitement. “Best Kept Secret” is a flirty, steamy and emotional hockey romance that is an amazing start to the Colorado Black Diamonds series.
Troy Collins is a senior at SDU and is focused on getting drafted into the NHL. But there are two classes standing in his way and he needs help. Angie Brooks-Young is also at SDU and is the one who can help him and be his tutor. But Troy and Angie’s Dads have past bad blood from when they played in the NFL together. However, when Troy comes to Angie’s aid, she agrees to help him. They slowly become friends but as time goes on, a chemistry between them forms. But the connection between their families lingers and eventually comes to light.
The gasp I gasped when I found out that Angie was the FMC of this book. Her Dad and Pops book was my favorite from the Denver Mountain Lions series and I’m so glad we’re getting this next generation series. Angie has all the best qualities from her Dads and that shines throughout this series. She’s smart, genuine, caring and I loved her connection with Troy. Troy is a swoon worthy guy and I loved how passionate he was about hockey and then the same passion for Angie. Their families had unfinished business from back in their playing days and both of them were very aware of that. I loved how they were able to overcome it to become friends and then something more. The past does come back and Troy handled it the best possible way. He showed how much he loved Angie just with that simple and very adult-like move. The last few chapters and ending were the perfect way to wrap up their story. And the bonus epilogue left me with a big smile on my face.
"'I want to be with you, Angie. This future I'm thinking about? I want you there with me. But I don't want to come between you and your family.' ... 'I love you too, Troy. I love you and I want to be with you so badly it hurts. But I don't know how to do that. How do I tell the two most supportive parents there are that I am with the son of someone who caused them so much pain?' ... 'It if means I get to be with you, I'd walk through the gates of hell and back.' 'Okay, I don't think it'll be that bad. Well, maybe.'" 🏒 When I signed up for this ARC, I didn't realize it was connected to her Denver Mountain Lions football series. So, being the compulsive reader that I am, I had to read those first. And I'm happy I did because my favorite couple, Alex and Carter, are the parents to our leading lady, Angie, in this book. But, even if you didn't read the football series, Emily catches you up on the most important pieces in the prologue, so you can just pick this one up if you want!
Honestly, I struggled with embracing Troy because of his dad, but he totally won me over. Troy and Angie's love story is swoon-worthy (I mean, you don't kiss in the rain after watching a rooftop movie and NOT completely swoon for the characters when you read it). They're so good together, as if they perfectly balance each other out. But, because their relationship is kept secret in the beginning, there are so many stolen moments between them... which we LOVE!
Emily's entrance into the hockey romance world is fantastic and it's full of sweet romantic and familial moments, you will be tearing up by the end. Thank you Margot Rivers for the recommend, you've brought Emily Silver into my life and I'm so happy to have found her!
As with many of Emily Silver's books that I've read, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I spent so much time swooning so hard as I read how Angie had Troy wrapped around her finger essentially from the beginning. I ate up every crumb of their mutual pining while trying to keep up the tutor / mentee boundary! I don't choose to read college romance very often, but these two felt much more mature than many characters in college romance books.
My heart hurt so much for both Angie & Troy as they went through the main conflict of the book. But I'm so glad that everyone was eventually able to communicate & come together for the sake of love & happiness. I haven't read the Denver Mountain Lions series yet but it makes me happy to see that the last loose end of Alex and Carter's story was wrapped up in Best Kept Secret! I love how much you see of Derek's growth from when he was young & stupid to use the "F" slur that should never be used to doing the work behind the scenes to atone. I definitely teared up when he revealed that he'd been working with Team Rainbow on the down low without anyone on Team Rainbow knowing it was him.
4.5 STARS Book one of his new series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV. This book is a second generation spin off from Sideline Infraction in the Denver Mountain Lions series. Though it is not necessary to read that book first, readers may want to get to know Angie's parents too. In many ways, because troy is in college instead of the NHL for almost all of this book, it functions as a full-length prequel to the series. I love Angie's strength and intelligence. I loved how she and Troy both felt the attraction to each other and the pressure of the past between their parents. She and Troy are both characters that are likeable, loyal, and kind. I could feel that bloom of young love in the writing. They had a passionate urgency for each other that made me swoon. When they faced obstacles, I could feel their pain of separation. But then I loved feeling their joy of reunion. Troy is a cinnamon roll who falls so fast and hard for Angie. I couldn't help but love him. They have some of the swooniest dates and the kissing in the rain scene is divine. I can't wait to see more of them in future books. Themes of family, forgiveness, inclusivity, and not allowing the perceptions of others to form personal judgement are all prominent in this book. Especially for Angie, this is a coming-of-age story where she separates her identity from her parents. I am excited to see what comes next in this series. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
WOW! Talk about an emotionally charged, beautifully written, and page-turner love story that will grab hold of your heartstrings and never let go. Ms. Silver has outdone herself with this new series, Colorado Black Diamods, and the first book in the series Best Kept Secret. Once I started Angie and Troy's story I was addicted. Their story was one of forbidden love, misconceived notions, and about not jumping to conclusions. Troy and Angie are children whose families have a past that is not one of friendship it is one of hatred. Troy needs to keep his grades up due to the scholarship he has to play hockey for his college. With grades falling he needs a tutor. Angie is one of the brightest and smartest girls on campus and just so happens to be a tutor. He needs a tutor but Angie cannot take him on because he is the son of her father's worst enemy. Things change when Troy saves her from a drunk at a college party and this is where the preconceived ideas of Troy change. She agrees to tutor him and boy not only do grades get better but a spark ignites between the two of them. Ms. Silver pulls you in as the two of them navigate their relationship and have to deal with the situation between their fathers. Troy shows Angie that he is trustworthy and kind. He is all that and swoon-worthy. He never gives up on trying to win her heart. The chemistry that was there right from the start just magnified as they spent more time together. I can't wait to see what Ms. Silver has in store with the next installment.
This is my first read from this author, but I can guarantee it won't be my last. I love this book! I devoured it in a day. I think I'm in love with this author and her style of writing. She not only draws you in but keeps you interested in her book the entire time. This book gave me a plot, love, spice, and emotion. All things to make a great book!!
Troy is the captain of the school's hockey team. He's got big plans for his future, but his grades are slipping, and he needs help. He asked the 1 person who wants nothing to do with him.
Angie is a quiet kind of girl. She doesn't love to party and be in the spotlight like her roommate Harper. Angie likes to study, very good grades, so she can move on with her future. The 1 person she is supposed to stay away from comes and asks her for help with his classes. She can't say yes. There is no way she can help Troy. Then Troy goes and helps her, saves her. Now she has to help him.
This forbidden hockey romance is one for the shelves. It belongs on your bookshelf and deserves to be loved and read. In telling you, this is such a great book. I enjoyed every moment of this book, and I know I'm going to be reading it again soon. I can't wait to see what this author does next! I recommend this book not only to hockey romance lovers but also to anyone who likes forbidden and new adult romances... AMAZING!

New hockey series skating in from @authoremilysilver
Angie holds a grudge against Troy. Not because of who he is but what his name means and who his father is. The man who made her father’s life hard in the NFL. And here she is staying loyal to her family. Until her conscious makes her realize being rude to Troy isn’t her.
Troy is a star hockey player who’s struggling with school. Unlike other jocks, he’s determined to get an education as a backup. Asking for help is hard so getting shot down sucks even more. He’s not like everyone expects him to be. Especially Angie when she agrees to tutor him. He’s kind, thoughtful, romantic and sweet. The exact opposite of what Angie believed he was. Their families might not have like each other.. but can they build something to last or will it all crumble to the ground?
Troy was what you hope all college jocks are going to be like. He’s got a personality that’s not just about the game and the bunnies, and he’s hard not to like. You can see how it was easy for Angie to let down her walls; eventually. Angie had her moments. As loyal as she was to her dads, Troy never did anything to show he’s rude or insensitive. She was harsh with him but eventually let him in and the risk absolutely paid off. I’m Interested to see where the rest of this series goes.
This book almost felt like a prequel since it took place in college, before Troy made it to the NHL. It was light and pretty low angst and I really enjoyed the amount of on page hockey. It was a good college romance with a Romeo and Juliet feel that kept me invested throughout the story.
Angie is the daughter of Alex and Carter from Emily Silver’s Denver Mountain Lions series. And Troy is the son of the man whose taunting led Alex to coming out. While it was a little bit of a Romeo and Juliet story, the feud was largely one sided. Angie had been told her whole life to stay away from the Hollins, while Troy had understood his dad’s mistakes and that his dad wasn’t the man he had been when he made them.
I liked the development of Angie and Troy’s relationship. Troy was the ultimate book boyfriend and it didn’t take Angie long to loose her preconceived notions of him. I loved that Angie gave him a chance and even gave his dad a chance. Their relationship seemed to blossom all on its own and I loved the way they both showed up for each other. They seemed much more mature than college seniors but it really worked for the story.
The third act conflict was unsurprising but no less heart wrenching. I loved the way it played out and the effort Troy put forth to mend all the fences. I loved the ending and thought it was the perfect way to preface the series as a whole.
This was the 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓 way to begin a series! I absolutely adored the 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 series, and Alex & Carter are one of my favourite couples of all time, so diving into this book I was super excited to begin with. But even knowing this was a next gen book didn't prepare me for how wonderful Troy & Angies book was.
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥. The chemistry between these two was off the charts, I fell in love with them completely. The forbidden element to their relationship hooked me right from the start. Add in sneaking around, cute dates, 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍 and hockey. You've definitely got a winner in my book. Their passion for one another was exquisitely written. You could feel it, and it has one of the 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 endings ever. I 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐋𝐘 recommend it.
𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐈 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐃?: Absolutely. This was the perfect way to begin a series.
Best Kept Secret starts off a new series of hockey romances from Emily Silver featuring the children of her Denver Mountain Lion football series.
Angela Brooks-Young knows she should stay away from Troy Hollins. His father had made life difficult for many players in the NFL, including her father. There was no reason to believe the apple wouldn't fall far from the tree. Only Troy is nothing like his father's gridiron reputation, and the more time she spends with him the harder it is to keep their relationship a secret.
Troy knows exactly how Angela's father feels about his family, but he's not about to let that keep them apart. What began with her tutoring him to save his grades becomes so much more as they spend time together outside of studying. There had to be a way to convince her dad to accept him, because he wasn't giving Angela up.
I really enjoyed this college hockey romance and the chance to revisit the Mountain Lion players. I love the underlying themes of not judging someone based on preconceived notions and second-hand experience, accepting that people can change for the better, and forgiveness. It's also a damn good love story! I can't wait to see what else Emily has in store for us with the Black Diamonds series!
Best Kept Secret ~ Emily Silver Colorado Black Diamonds 1 Troy ~ Angela
🍁🍁🍁🍁
Troy and Angela have always been told by their families to stay away from each other but when Troy needs assistance with his school work, Angela is the only tutor that is qualified to help him.
I was so excited when ES announced that she was venturing into the world of hockey. I loved the hockey and the Romeo & Juliet vibes that Troy and Angela have. All the dates that they go on are sweet and entertaining. There is a solid found family feeling surrounding this book that I hope extends throughout the series.
I did struggle with Alex, Angela's dad, as he is a totally different character than in his book. I also struggled with Angela in the beginning with how rude she is towards Troy because that's how she was told to be.
This book was fantastic. It’s Romeo & Juliet meet The Deal. I was hooked from the beginning and read the entire thing within 8 hours.
Troy and Ang’s dads played together in the NFL (Emily@has written books about them so I’m quickly adding those to my TBR). Anyways, Ang’s dad is gay and Troy’s dad wasn’t a big fan and decided to use some choice words towards when they played. Since then, these families hated each other.
Troy knew that Ang was off limits - but that didn’t stop him. He was the captain of the hockey team and was at risk of losing his title if he didn’t get his grades up in a couple of his classes. One of which, Ang was in. She also helped out as a tutor in the student resource center.
Their attraction and chemistry was almost instant. I gobbled it up. Obsessed
Eventually their parents find out about their relationship which as you can imagine, doesn’t go over well. There really isn’t much of a third act breakup which I really liked. It was more of a conflict and it worked itself out.
I loved Emily’s writing and can’t wait to dive into some of her backlist before the next book in the hockey series comes out!
“Better than every star in every universe in every galaxy”. Best Kept Secret by Emily Silver is such a great story about never judging someone by their past. Angie and Troy never saw it coming. Angie was all about top grades, studying and helping others, while Troy was the Captain of the hockey team and struggling with his grades. Starting and playing hockey were most important to him. Coach tells him he needs to keep his grades up so he does to the tutoring center and meets Angie. Her dads have history with his dad so he is not someone she wants to interact with. She tells him she can’t help him, but will find someone who can. After an incident she decides to tutor him and over time their feelings change. If you love hockey romance, forbidden love, hockey star/tutor you will love this book. Such great plot and character development in this story. You get sucked right in and can’t stop reading. I felt the love between the two and at times couldn’t stop smiling. I’m definitely looking forward to more in this series.
