Gargoyle's Spring

Rate this book
Ibis Heliodoro is a Light Witch of The Order at The Veil. There’s just one problem. Her magic is broken. What witch cannot do magic, some may ask? Ibis Heliodoro. That witch. Cast out by the Coven for her lack of magical skills, Ibis is banished into the sacred walls of the library. Feeling outcasted and alone, Ibis spends her evenings reading to her familiars and the stone statue that takes up half the space of her small room, trying hard not to drown her hurt feelings in ice cream. Until her best friend comes in with one of her inventive ideas to cheer Ibis. Afterall, what’s better than a book boyfriend come to life? There was just one small obstacle to their master plan. The spell needs to be completed by Ibis.
He is a Gargoyle. One without a past. One with an unknown future. One with a bestowed name. Oliver. What kind of name is this? After being summoned by witches and brought into a strange world, he is cursed by those same witches. What kind of curse, some may ask? A stone-sleep curse. One that sends a Gargoyle into total darkness that is beyond sleep. Beyond reality, until he hears her voice. A voice calling him forward, bringing him back into the bizarre world surrounded by scriptures, scrolls and unusual animals. His fate lies in the hands of the enchanting clumsy witch, who breaks his curse.
What happens when a magic spell goes wrong in all the right ways?

Gargoyles spring is a short read!! Around 150 pages. I wanted to rate this a ⭐️⭐️ based on adult book, because it has some minimal sexual content. It reads as a book written for a much younger audience despite the sexual content. The writing style is simplistic. However the story line and is really good. I just feel it should be written for a more mature audience and now feel like some love story my 12 year old would read. I struggled with rating this book because the story line was good it brought back memories of books I read as a preteen but “spicier” I give it a 2.5 ⭐️

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!! This book was so cute. I absolutely loved Ibis and Oliver together. Honestly I loved all of the characters. The only characters I didn’t love were Tia Isa (Countess Isa); Mona; and Elton.

I honestly loved the whole concept of this book. I loved that it was a witch and a Gargoyle love story.

This was a completely adorable paranormal romance. I was sucked in and didn’t want the story to end. The found family in this is amazing and I hope this isn’t the last I see of them. Between a witch who is not so great at magic and her best friends that are bickering twins, the love is strong. And all of the familiars? 😍😍 I can’t even. I just want to hop in and live in this story now. There was a little bit of spice, but it was mostly sweet as a candied apple. Overall, a great read.

❤️ Tropes ❤️
💋 witch FMC who works as a librarian
💋 gargoyle MMC
💋 found family
💋 a magic spell that goes wrong in the best way

Ibis is from a line of powerful witches, yet she can’t even perform a simple spell without it backfiring. She’s been ostracized to work in the library, which she loves. So when her best friend asks her to do a spell to bring book boyfriends to life for them, why does she say yes? It might have to do with the handsome guardian of the library, the stone gargoyle that calms and comforts her whenever she is near him. But nothing ever goes smooth for Ibis.

Another remarkable book by Gracie Cooper. If you are looking for a book with a 5 star review for everything please go and read anything by Gracie Cooper. The characters, the plot, the suspense are there in spades. I have met this beautiful woman and I can tell you with absolute confidence that a part of her is in each and everyone. In Gargoyles Spring I think she is Ibis. Adorable, a friend to the end, and the banter between the characters and the familiars, just chefs kiss. Don’t make me pick - it’s either the owl or the bunny. I would love to know more about the bunny. But the owl and the bucket, I was actually laughing out loud! I promise if you read this book you will agree - there is no one who can come close to this exceptional author.

Super cute and fun read! This book had me giggling and kicking my feet. I loved all the characters and how the story played out! I’m 100% going to start saying “frick frack” as well as “Jupiters balls” haha! I’m hoping to see more of Oliver and Ibis in future books in this series! If you love men with wings and tails as well as some great familiars for our lovely witch this is a book for you!

🌶️ /5 spice level (everyone’s spice levels are different so keep that in mind. It has some good descriptions but doesn’t go into major major detail about each scene)

This short and spicy witchy novella is everything I didn’t know I needed!
The characters are fun, the bickering is highly amusing, and the teeny bit of angst makes your heart ache for the female lead.

If you want some fluff, with just a dash of angst, some heated chemistry, spice, and lots of magic… then this book is most definitely for you.

There were times when I was chuckling out loud at some of the scenes in this book. You will not regret reading about this witch and her gargoyle.

This was a really cute story. I found the writing to be a bit simplistic and even looked to see if I'd purchased a YA book. There was a little bit of spice, but the characters themselves came across as very young. That just means it wasn't the writing style for me.

However, the story of Ibis awakening Oliver was fun and sweet. The side characters were funny and a bit irreverent, and the familiars kind of stole the show. This was also low drama, low angst, and magical.

In Gargoyle's Spring, by Gracie Cooper, readers are introduced to a young witch from a prestigious clan set apart by her peculiar talent for derailing spells and hexes. Rejecting the suitor chosen by her influential family, she faces a future overshadowed by solitude, with her nights reserved for books, ice cream, and the company of her loyal familiars. However, a creative plan proposed by her best friend tilts her world in an unexpectedly positive direction.

Ibis, the protagonist, is a charmingly imperfect character, her endearing flaws forge a connection with the reader. The ensemble of eccentric characters that surround her complements her personality beautifully. The narrative takes a whimsical turn with the entrance of a prince charming unlike any other – a Gargoyle liberated from an ancient curse. The novel brims with chaos, adventure, and continuous humor, celebrating a character who embraces her uniqueness and maintains an optimistic outlook.

Gargoyle's Spring is a lighthearted, engaging read that provides a comforting sense of warmth. Ibis, as the central character, is not only relatable and kind but also exudes a self-deprecating humor that reveals her inner strength and self-acceptance. The novel adeptly explores themes of friendship, familial bonds, and personal struggles, striking a balance that resonates with a wide audience without detracting from its playful tone. The plot is dynamic, characterized by witty exchanges that keep the narrative lively and fresh. While the romance in the book is subtly spiced, it doesn't detract from the depth of the relationships, focusing instead on the evolving dynamics between characters.

Suitable for an evening's leisurely read, Gargoyle's Spring offers a delightful escape, transporting readers just far enough from reality to be thoroughly enjoyable without being overly fantastical. A highly recommended read for fans of the magical fantasy genre.

This was such a fun quick read. I absolutely loved it!!

What to expect:
📌 Found Family
📌 Magical Realm
📌 Magic Creatures
📌 Slow Burn
📌 Protective MMC
📌 Sassy FMC
📌 Plus Size Rep
📌 Latinx Rep
📌 RomCom
📌 HEA

Ibis is a witch, but not a good one. Her aunt has all but banished her from their coven. She is forced to live in the library where she basically becomes the librarian. Everyone else is paired with a magical partner. And most of the people in the coven avoid her. But she isn’t completely alone. She has a few familiars (animals) that live in the library with her. Sooty, the owl, is my spirit animal! I loved her sooo much. Ibis also has her twin best friends, Elizabeth and Andrew. The banter between these two had me laughing every time. You can definitely tell that they are siblings.

While she has a few people in her life, at times she is still lonely and desperately wanting companionship. She often finds comfort in a stone gargoyle in the library that she has named Oliver. Elizabeth comes up with a spell she is sure that Ibis can do to bring a book boyfriend to life. Ibis decides to try. And chaos happens.

I found this book hard to put down and was completely captivated by the story. While there is some spice, it is only sprinkled in. This book is heavily plot driven and will keep you in the story.

I highly recommend!

Gargoyle's Spring by Gracie Spring is book one in The Veil Series. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and oh my gosh; did I love it! I was first drawn to this book by the cover; the colors and the beautiful artwork. When I read the blurb of this book, I knew I had to get my eyes on it. When I say I devoured this book, I really mean my eyes ate up the words. I finished this book in a few hours. This had some of my favorite tropes such as found family, slow burn, romcom and a pinch of spice. Not to mention there’s magical elements as well! But what really made me happy was the plus size representation; I love reading books that have this. The characters in this book are amazing… another thing I absolutely loved! I lived for the banter in this book. It made me smile and my heart feel light. The dynamic between Ibis and Oliver is just top tier and one of the cutest things I’ve read in awhile. While this book is on the shorter side don’t let that fool you, this has a well defined plot that just keeps on giving. The writing is just fantastic; everything about this book was wonderful. I could imagine everything that was described with such ease. I’m officially a fan of the author, Gracie Cooper. I can’t wait to read more of their books! This book is an easy two thumbs up and I can’t recommend enough!

Fave monster romance of 2024!!

Gracie has once again wowed me with the intricate and fun world she has built within this Novella! Right off the bat I loved Ibis, a witch who seemingly has no magic, she is cast aside and left on her lonesome in the library until she summons a gargoyle named Oliver. This was such an easy, light hearted read that is sure to lift your spirits from the first to last page, I found myself lost between the pages of this book once I picked it up and actually a little sad once I finished it because I fell in love with all the characters in this read and actually felt like I was part of their lives!

You get some amazing tropes in this book such as found family, possessive mmc and a plus size fmc that you will adore! While the spice was on the lighter side the connection between the two mcs was so cute it keeps you entertained and wanting to see more and more of them together. Oliver was the perfect monster mmc and honestly I would date him in a heart beat... just saying! This has the perfect amount of witchy feels, mix that in with an amazing romance and you have the perfect novella you need on your TBR!

Pure sunshine. That’s what this was. This story was such a joy to read. It is light, fun and oh, so swoon-worthy. I couldn’t stop grinning, cheering on this unlikely match. Ibis and Oliver are the ‘It’ couple indeed. If you are going to manifest a book boyfriend, you can’t do better than a seven foot Adonis gargoyle with a loyal heart of gold. Watching Oliver bond with her menagerie of familiars gave such warm feelings, then accepting her ‘family’ as his own, swoon! Ibis may not be the most powerful witch, but she has powers sadly lacking in the world. Love, compassion, loyalty and human kindness. Everything she does is in support of others. I love a good ‘found family’ storyline. Ibis may not be surrounded by loving blood relations, but the family she created in Andrew, Elizabeth, Selma and Ariel, along with her loyal familiars, are the best one could ask for. Come for the love story, stay for the hi-jinx and shenanigans cuz there are plenty and they are a hoot! You’ll learn the important skill of supporting one another and some new uses for a watering can. This story was exactly the sunshine I needed to brighten my day!

What if you were apart of a prestigious magical family but unfortunately you are the outcast because you do not have any magic. While everyone else is mated and practicing magic, you’re left to live in and tend to the library. This is Ibis’s story. She is a plus size beautiful girl who isn’t like the rest of her family. She has some amazing familiars and a gargoyle who she confides in. One day her friend gives her a spell that she says can bring characters in books to life. Maybe bring a book boyfriend to life? Either way Ibis doesn’t believe it especially if she has to do it because magic has never worked for her. Only she does decide to take a chance and try the spell on the Gargoyle that guards the library. Performing the spell wakes up more than her magic. This story was so much fun and very sweet. Though a few characters were not my favorite,I loved that Ibis got the love and care she deserved. If you’re looking for a “monster” romance with a beautiful curvy Latina lead this is a great book to read.

When I tell you that this story brought me back to LIFE, I mean it. It’s exactly what my litto heart needed in such dark times.

This has to be one of the sweetest-witchy-cozy stories I’ve read this year. It was filled with magic, love, found family vibes and friendships that made it impossible to put this book down.

I felt in love with our FMC Ibis and her lovely ways, her spirit was so intoxicating that I couldn’t help but to fall in love with her at first sight. 💖

The dynamic between Oliver ( our Gargoyle) and our innocent-sweet Ibis was so freaking cute, I swear I felt my heart swoon each time they interacted with each other, totally felt like a high schooler 😂..

Anyways, If you are looking for a light sweet story with a dash of drama type “mean girls” in a magical world setting than this one is for you

I received an ARC of this novel by the author in exchange of an honest review.

Ibis Heliodoro comes from a long line of light witches, but doesn't have strong magical abilities. She spends her days working the library/archive of The Veil and caring for her familiars and daydreaming of the handsome stone gargoyle she's lovingly dubbed Oliver.

An attempt at a fool-proof spell goes wrong (or oh so right!) and the stone gargoyle comes to life. Oliver experiencing the world was delightfully funny. The secondary cast of characters lent both heart and humor to the story as well.

This was a light-hearted, comedic, cozy monster romance with a witchy heroine and a possessive, purring gargoyle.

I'd say this is a 3.5/5 just because the need for a bit more editing did distract me from the story. I really enjoyed the story and will continue the series, it just needed some more sweeps for typos, wording, etc.

Fall in love with a witchy librarian, her familiars, and her guardian gargoyle
The familiars alone will make you laugh out loud, never mind the twins. One of the things I love about this story is the juxtaposition of the old world – tradition, the way it’s always been – versus the younger generation’s interest in doing things differently if they choose.
You’ll find elements of found family, magic, protective MMC, curvy girl and Latinx. All of this story is so cute – just like a witch’s spell, throw in a pinch of angst, a dash of spice, and a few swirls of magic, and we get a happy ever after for Ibis and her gargoyle, and possibly a nice set up for some other loves stories.
Just remember…we don’t eat the butterflies!

This book was so cozy, cute, & funny! Ibis is so kind & caring and tries to make the best of her situation. Her friends are good-natured trouble makers, one of which proposes an idea to relieve Ibis of her loneliness. What happens after is absolute chaos but in the best way! I fell in love with these charming characters & all the cute (and helpful) little animal familiars. I hope there are more books because I would love to see what happens next in Ibis’ crazy life!

Also, watch out for that watering can!

This was adorable, fast paced Novella. Ibis is a bit of a magical disaster, she has a hard time getting her magic to work the way its intended to. she works in a library and accidentally brings multiple fictional things to life when a spell goes wrong.

I think this is the perfect book if your looking for a cleanser in between reads or just getting into monster romance's. I can't wait to read more from this author.

ARC Review ✨️
I loved absolutely everything about this book!!!! I was literally laughing out loud 90% of the time reading it 🤣 It had clean cursing which was hilarious! For example the FMC Ibis, always said "Frick Frack" I just thought the writing was perfect the whole time. Gargoyle Springs is a beautifully written, witchy monster romance novella, with a clumsy witch, and a stunning gargoyle💕💕✨️

Finished in 3 hours!!! Absolutely loved everything about this story. When I got to the end I found myself wanting more of our plus size witch friend Ibis. Gargoyle Springs is a beautifully story of a witch named Ibis whose powers are not like other witches. She spends most of her time hiding in the library, her safe space, where she meets him. When a spell goes right finally for this little witch, she is waiting for the other fly to drop. Will it? Frick Frack Toads Tounge. Dive into find out.
