Hot Shots #7

Overtime Score

Rate this book
He’s a cocky hockey player. I’m a bookish figure skater.
We’ve been enemies for years—but I just asked him to help me check off my bedroom bucket list.

For most of my life, Hunter Landry has been the thorn in my side, annoying me and driving me crazy like it's his life's mission.

Until one night I drunkenly blab to him about my ex’s shortcomings in the bedroom. Suddenly, he has a new mission: being the man to show me everything I’ve been missing out on.

I know that saying yes will be a mistake; but the tension that’s simmered between us for years finally boils over, and I fold. It might be a mistake, but I’ve never made a mistake that felt so good.

I might love what Hunter does to my body, but I can still hate him. At least, that’s what I tell myself.

But as quickies turn into nights spent in each other’s arms, and sarcastic quips turn into long conversations, I realize Hunter is perilously close to making me check off one experience I was never supposed to share with him:

Falling in love.

Overtime Score is a full-length enemies to lovers college hockey romance novel with lots of banter, lots of steam, and two lifelong rivals who realize they've been meant for each other from the beginning. No cheating; happily ever after ending guaranteed! The Hot Shots books can all be read as standalones in any order.

Too many errors, story was too long without going anywhere.
Too much "internal dialogue".

Cute book, not one of my favourites..

However, many spelling and errors in this book I noticed, wasn’t it proofread beforehand? Her ex friend who was called Michelle is later called Melissa near the end of the book

~2.5 rounded down

it was going to be a 3 flat since it was a palette cleanser book HOW FREAKING EVER the author decided to add conflict at 91% in the book??!?? like whyyyyy

they didn’t break up tho so YES?? it still irritated me because she was basically ignoring him for something that had nothing to do with him or them as a couple so…

let me just put quotes & thoughts—

Q:“Maybe I should pull my heart back from Hunter’s grasp, so it won’t be his to crush anymore.” (because her aunt and fiance of 10 years broke up)
T: I WAS LITERALLY GOING TO WRITE IN THE REVIEW THAT IT WAS NO CONFLICT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER AND WHY TF AT 91% IS SHE TB SHE GONNA PULL HER HEART BACK OVER HEARING A STORY ABT SMB ELSES RELATIONSHIP LIKE GIRL BE SO FFR

Q: “Don’t lie to me, Phoebe,” I say, my voice pressing. “Because I wouldn’t lie to you.”

Q: I nod, trying to understand what she’s telling me.
T: he’s like soooooo what does this have to do with us…? LIKE EXACTLY

i also didn’t like how much description & dialogue there was, it got to be exhausting and how her trauma from her accident was what sooo much time up in the beginning for it all to magically fade away after they started hanging out, suddenly she’s not scared to get in a car because hunters there or now she’s not afraid to drive the car because he’s there like huhhh???

there were a few editing mistakes but idrc abt those things unless it almost every page, i only found like 3 in this book

and finally my favorite characters were the side characters, Shane and Lars lol (i might read 2 other books in this series, thinking abt it)

This is book number 7 in the Hot Shots series and focuses on Hunter and Phoebe. The two of them grew up together before Phoebe moved away to attend college and continue to go after her dream of figure skating. When her life came crumbling down around her after an accident left her with a career ending injury, she found that the life she had been building was non-existent. She decides to transfer to Ridley University to be with her best friend. When she gets there, she isn’t expecting to come face to face with Hunter again. Hunter is on the hockey team for Ridley University and has been a thorn in Phoebe’s side since the day that they met. Hunter has been drawn to and intrigued by her since they first met. He always felt some type of way about Phoebe that was different than how he felt for others but he never actually examined it too much until Phoebe came back and started attending Ridley University. I loved how their relationship developed and how they shared such a long history between them, even if it wasn’t always totally positive feelings between them. I don’t think I would consider them ever being enemies, but I definitely think that it was a ‘Hunter is a nuisance to Phoebe’ kind of relationship growing up. I loved that aspect of the story though! I love how they developed from where they started to where they ended up. They definitely complemented each other way more than they even knew they would. This was a great story and a great addition to the series.

I love enemies to lovers stories and this is a very cute one. Enemies since they were kids, Hunter and Phoebe are always bantering and being sarcastic with each other. He is a hockey player. She is a figure skater. Forward to college years, life happens and Phoebe needs to transfer back home. They end up meeting again and there is laughter, more banter, tears (at least for me), an amazing group of friends. Then, they discover the very thin line between love and hate. Once again, well done Lyssa!!.

So I actually read this book all in one sitting. 8:30pm-11pm. Short little book. So there wasn’t a whole lot of plot and this campus must have been pretty damn small because they bumped into each other every other chapter. Kind of weird that there was like no other character interactions except for them. Didn’t even know either of them had parents or siblings that they’re “super close with” till the last 10%. Also she just up and decides to move to Vancouver with your boyfriend of 4 months after colllege??? Anyways romance was cute

cute read

Really enjoyed this book. I did think there was going to be a ridiculous 3rd scene breakup, but was so happy put when they literally communicated and there was NO break up!

I loved the dynamic between Gunter and over a, and their banter was brilliant. Most of my highlighted pats were their banter.

I technically give this book a 3.7* rating. Only because 5 are my “I will be buried with this book”, and 4 are books I can’t stop thinking about but won’t be buried with!

A solid, hockey book. I'm not sure enemies is the best term for them, it's more that they antagonise each other whilst fighting their attraction. I liked the focus on life altering health changes & the realities of adjusting.
What starts as a drunken confession / proposition develops through a fwb to a solid relationship.

This is the 7th book in this series, and this is hockey player Hunter, and figure skater Phoebe’s story.
This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with witty banter, friendships, humor, friendships, tension, enemies / lovers, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and steamy sports romance.

I literally finished this book in a day.

it was low key really funny but I feel like it went on for SOOO long. like they could have ended it earlier but instead they decided to give this like chapter long beef and then introduce more people, like girl STOP. but it was good, not really much to say.

This is book number 7 which I didn't realize but hey maybe I'll go back and read the first ones.

the hockey player/ice-skater/ enemies to lovers storyline is not my fave but this book has changed that for me.
Hunter and Phoebe had me secret smiling like I was the one with the love hate relationship. They even got me to laugh and in turn a weird look from my boyfriend.

This series keeps giving.

Even though I have read too many hockey romances this one definitely stuck. The enemies to lovers was super cute and the characters were funny and well written. The spice was just enough and I have read the other books in the series so I was happy to have them included. Will be checking out her other books.

Awe

I love a good enemies to lovers read. These two together are amazing. They went from knowing and hating each other since they were young to get together in college in his final year. Phoebe had gone through so much, and Hunter was the one to get her through her fears. I love their story and their heat for each other. They are fire together.

hunter and Phoebe are so cute. I really liked the story line in this one where they hated each other since childhood and then she moved back home and they because enemies with like benefits. Hunter is very hot and idk if I overrated this book because other books i've recently read had a not great male main character but in this moment in time hunter can get it.

Boring with a capital B. author messed up the timeline of phoebe’s accident like twelve times. desperately needs a new editor. i was hoping to end this series with a bang but that was not the case. there wasn’t really much of a plot and the banter was dry. seems like the author was out of ideas by the end of the series or something.

Honestly pretty disappointed in this. I didn’t relate to any of the characters or their problems. I feel like it just wasn’t executed well enough. Didn’t feel the found family I was looking for here.

Me gustó q no tuviera 3er acto de ruptura, pero me hubiera gustado q se indague más en su relación en el pasado y su decisión en el futuro con respecto a su relación a distancia. Dentro de todo muy bueno.

not the best book in the world, but i was bored and needed something light so it was a nice read. just something that bothered me was that it had too many orthography errors (and english is not my first language so that’s something).

i feel like it requires for editing and just a bit longer. it was way too short, and just too rushed. the start of the book was good. but this book was just disengaging with how short it felt
