Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a powerful method for healing the psychological and emotional pain standing between you and a more fulfilling life. This workbook outlines essential ACT skills—including cognitive defusion, present-moment awareness, willingness, values, committed action, and flexible perspective taking—that you can apply immediately to start feeling better now, and keep feeling better in the future. You'll also learn strategies from positive psychology and self-compassion to help enhance feelings of connection, pleasure, and gratitude.
Presented in a highly accessible, "dip in, dip out" format, this workbook allows you to jump straight to what you need, when you need it. If you're ready to transform your life and make lasting positive change, the evidence-based skills in this workbook can help you get started on the path to healing.
Very decently put together; translates the ACT Matrix and Hexaflex into easily digestible terms for anyone to pick up. Will be quite useful for session planning as well.
Really solid workbook with a ton of useful tools. This one focuses less on “fixing” your feelings and more on helping you live with them in a healthier, more intentional way—which honestly felt like a breath of fresh air. The exercises are practical and easy to follow, even if you’re new to ACT.
It’s definitely the kind of book you can take at your own pace and come back to when you need a reset. Some sections leaned a little clinical, but overall, it strikes a good balance between informative and accessible. Great pick if you’re working on emotional regulation or just trying to live more in line with your values.
Matt and Jennifer have created an accessible and relatable door into Acceptance and Commitment work. They have blended evidence-based data, personal stories and direct exercises that engage readers and provide a solid base for ACT skills. This book will deepen a clinicians understanding of ACT work or re-ignite your passion about it. It could be used in conjunction with therapy or as a stand alone if needed. I think this book will be one I return to year after year both personally and professionally. Christin Bridges, LCSW
