A very junior non-fiction read, that tells us what we might discover on a night walk. We start with the moon, and so learn the names of some specific moons, the phases and how that works, and so on. We're supposed to attach stickers to each topic when we've ticked them off, so at least moths and owls are increasing in difficulty somewhat, making that part of the concept worthwhile. That said, the specific moths – and the amphibians later that we're supposed to be hunting – are America-only, so this book as seen isn't for all audiences. (And quite where we go to see Earth in the night sky eludes me.) This would have been improved with a cohesive selection of contents – the random jumping from critters to space and back is daft – and a more even level of difficulty – night-blooming plants and seeing animals' eyeshine can't be nearly as easy as the main constellations. For those reasons I think staying indoors with a better book the preferable option on this occasion.

Fantastic activity learning book for any age or country of origin, really. There are sections on the night sky, nocturnal animals and lots more, complete with fun learning tools like magnifying glass and ways to see animals and flora that have bioluminescence. Fantastic learning tool!
There are activities for learning and stickers (if the book is gifted to one person). It also encourages interaction for the reader with both the giver and the environment. I want one!
The illustrations are delightful, imaginative, clear, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, and even to a school or teacher or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Storey Publishing, Storey Publishing, LLC via NetGalley. Thank you!

My children thoroughly enjoyed Backpack Explorer: Nature Walk, so we were excited to read another book in the series. This is a great book for children who love the outdoors. It would be especially fun to take on a camping trip or on a night walk in a state park or even near the beach. There are sections that talk about nocturnal animals, night blooming plants, the phases of the moon, popular constellations, plants, among other night sky phenomena. I love the actual photos included and the ideas for games. They would be great for camping or just having the kids playing outside. This book is wonderful for curious and adventurous kids and is a great way to encourage kids (who need it) to play outside!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this one.

This is such a fun, thoughtful book that will really help kids explore. This would be fantastic for a summer camp, summer program, or gift for a kiddo at the beginning of the summer. I was delightfully surprised at the inclusion not only of bugs and animals that come out at night but also activities and games to engage kids in fun at night. My son immediately wanted to do many of the activities in the book and begged for time outside at night to see the moths flock to the light. This would also be great as a gift for going camping for the first time. I highly recommend for elementary classrooms and school libraries and public libraries. Readers will learn a lot and have fun doing it with this book!

My children were thrilled to identify different nocturnal animals and plants, and it sparked a lot of curiosity and excitement about nature.
