The beloved multi-genre fantasy series returns in this highly-anticipated sequel. Continuing the story of the legendary hero turned tavern keeper, Archibold Stormblood and his friends at the Tipsy Pelican Tavern, Vol. 4 is filled with intriguing mysteries, mind-bending action, laugh-out-loud humor, and characters that come alive.
Arch is sleeping sweat-soaked nights filled with dark dreams while adjusting to his elected responsibilities and managing his tavern. And if the hair-pulling council meetings and rushed deadline to build the duke's bridge weren't enough to worry about, there's a new threat that has arrived in Meritas in the form of an Apostle of the Night Cult – an unmatched killer of the lethal assassin's guild to which Tashnei once belonged.
What is the apostle doing in the city? Why is she torturing criminals? What is her relationship to the Tipsy Pelican Tavern’s new musician? And does her arrival have anything to do with the duke’s upcoming grand reception of old allies?
I am enjoying this series, and am looking forward to the next book. I think the things I love most are the interesting relationships that develop and deepen as the series continues. In this issue we get a slightly deeper insight into the relationship between Arch and Charm which has always been somewhat mysterious to me. I’d say Charm is indeed one of my favorite characters! I love the way she refers to herself in the third person!! I hope to see more insights into this character in Book 5. Additionally, I love the setting of the Tavern as the central meeting place where so much is happening, and the home of so much warmth and camaraderie. The illustrations that pop up here and there are always a nice surprise! Great job!! 👏🏻
I really liked the previous book, but this one starts with ‘Bellinox’, a rather clichéd psycho assassin, I suspect the author thinks she is an interesting character, but I’m afraid she irritated me right from the start.
I enjoyed the story and there were several really interesting incidents, but I think that was the main problem, the book felt like a collection of incidents and didn’t really flow.
Just a delight to read as usual. I for one like the slightly more serious twist it's gone toward and hope the author doesn't feel to pigeon holed by the original premise it's a great story with great characters that can really go in any direction. Looking forward to the next one as always and recommend it to anyone who likes reading and words and fun.
Finally we get more of the backstory of our eponymous tavern keeper, and ex-hero, Arch, as he battles assassins (again), the machinations of crime lords and actual lords and the minutiae of running his district. Will there be new ladies in the harem? Will there be some subtle battles? Will Arch throw dog mess at the citizens? Read this volume and find out…
Bought this as soon as it came out because of the laugh out loud enjoyment of the previous books. This latest book does not disappoint. Poor Arch is again beset by women & for Arch that means trouble. When you finish this book you'll be ready for the next.
I really liked the story. Great characters and world. I usually don’t like the hidden identity trope but having the mc be magically crippled makes up for it. Great story I’ll definitely read the next.
This story of the top hero who retires to run a bar was fantastic. He gets very pretty powerful women to work for him that his familiar will gut him if he touches them.
A little lite reading for an afternoon. It's a good series. Nothing to deep or serious. Mistakes will be on Goodreads. I haven't found this one on Royalroad yet.
I really loved reading this book. It was funny and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
