On the streets of Montreal, all morals can be bought for a price, and Scarlett sold hers long ago while working her way up the ladder. She is flawless and sexy, and she knows it, plays on it, and allows men to suffer for it.
Across town, Noah is all for making g music and loving Jesus, until the day his path crosses with a wanton woman who shatters his perfect life and every morality he holds to heart.
They are two parallel lines that should have never met. But what happens when attraction leaves them starving for each other?
A love story.... A true love story told from different points of view.
Reading just brought to mind a reminder of how much God loves us no matter how far we have strayed. Irrespective of what we have done, God's grace still abounds. He loves us and He is still waiting to welcome us back into His open arms. The true love between a man and a woman. Genuine love between a Jesus boy and a girl of the world. Love that grew between a woman and a man. Despite all she did to not get into that place, she did. Even when she knew that it could ruin him, she was willing to control her emotions and feelings for him.
Strong language YES. Nudity YES. A necessity to show how gone she is in the world. Might not sit well with some Jesus extremists, but it's high time we call a spade a spade. That was who she was when she was in the world and oh.... I love the subtle gentle turnaround for her. It shows how real and human she is.
And I love the struggle our Jesus boy had to go through and different points.
And the name..... Red... Passion.... Love and courage.
Maybe not as romantic (in the sense of the world) as her other books.... In all it is a beautiful redemption story....
A true redemption story written from the deepest part of the heart. I felt it while reading it.
There are places where the main female character used strong language, and a few chapters that contains immoral activities but it's understandable because the female character rolled in darkness before she had an encounter that gets her saved.
The highlight of this story is the after life experience. The chapter where the author described heaven and how an angel brought the MC male to life. I cried
If you love deep redemption romance stories, and you are open minded when it comes to reading faith based romance. Then you will enjoy this book greatly.
Give me a bad girl good boy story and I’ll gobble it up like jollof! I’m tired of the reverse. This story was so refreshing and enjoyable. We meet Scarlet, a prostitute who finds herself in a pickle that could lead to death and then Noah, a blue eyed “Angel face” gospel singer who is trying to remain on the straight and righteous path. They fall in love. But things are not that simple. He has an image to protect. She’s definitely not the kind of woman a Christian singer should be with. Their chemistry is sizzling. And the ending sweet!
Amongst a thousand stars begins with the fmc, Akunnaya A.K.A Scarlet, a Nigerian woman with a traumatic past who survives illegal migration and sex work, and Noah, a light-skinned, ginger-haired Christian singer, whose life revolves around his faith, family and music. He’s described to be jaw-droppingly gorgeous. This is a perfect “different worlds colliding” premise and while people seem to love it, I’ve grown severely tired of the narrative. The writer carefully, I can’t say if intentionally pushed a thought process that can understand how the lines blur with morality, survival and faith, especially in a world or society that wants you at your limits constantly. The prose however was weak to me, flat, the setting wasn’t as clear as I’d have loved for it to be, the monologues were annoying and the very traumatic experiences did not have any feel to it. This story was supposed to be about love, gentle love that cares regardless of background or history, that I can commend because I like a romance story. However, the scenes that explain the struggle Noah has with lust does not give much attention to the relationship with Jesus required to overcome it and it’s just brushed through . I wish I could say the same for the sexual scenes and tension in the book. A particular part of the book shows Akunnaya high and vulnerable, and Noah shows up, caring for her, forcing her to throw up because she’s downed a ridiculous amount of drugs , getting her food, and then prompting her to recount her life story. In this moment, he introduces her to Jesus and on its own this could have been a powerful turning point. Instead, the scene feels sort of confusing. Knowing that they are not in a relationship, but still reading that he refers to her with intimate pet names like “baby” and “my angel,” which could give rise to something more vulnerable or sexual in that situation did not make sense to me, especially with the current situation and his stand. Let’s not forget that they’ve known each other for all of 3 weeks, if up to.
All in all, this wasn’t God awful but I believe there are so many little details that were missed that could’ve made it a great book.
When I read Many Waters by Rosemary Okafor (@authorrosemary_ok ) I knew I'd discovered a most talented writer.
She proved me right in Amongst A Thousand Stars. Once again this author reaches deep into the hearts of her characters and you find yourself experiencing a fellow-feeling. I've decided it's a unique talent of Rosemary's.
In this story you will meet Scarlett. Once she was known as Akunnaya, but on the streets of Montreal, Canada, she was christened Scarlett.
Scarlett is a prostitute. She is a wounded soul. She is a... She is a woman.
When you see her as a woman, her pain becomes your pain, and in the end, her triumph becomes yours.
I was drawn into the story. It doesn't always happen. Believe me, it doesn't. But it did with Amongst A Thousand Stars, and I found myself a part of the world where the story happened. So much so that when 'we' moved back to Nigeria towards the end of the story, I said in my head, "oya, make we dey go back." Lol.
Throughout the story, I was interchangeably Akunnaya (Scarlett) and Noah.
I laughed a lot, especially while in Scarlett's head. I cried... I actually did, and my heart broke for Scarlett and Noah a few times.
I loved Noah. He is the true definition of Christ-like. Did not his Saviour hang out with the 'sinners' and a prostitute, and made them comfortable in his presence?
Amongst A Thousand Stars is an exceptional read.
Rosemary Okafor is a storyteller. She tells a story in the way that makes it both authentic and believable. Bookmark her name.
A prostitute and a devout Christian are usually like oil and water; things that don't mix. However, author Rosemary Okafor has written a story that blends the two in a compelling fashion. You could call it a 'miracle', because she goes forward to make this an interracial romance.
This is a story about a Nigerian woman (Scarlett) who escaped childhood trauma and abuse and moved to Canada. Nevertheless, her profession of choice is prostitution and she surgically modifies her body to near perfection for it. Meanwhile, she has a love-hate relationship with God and Christianity.
Enters the handsome Noah, red haired, blue eyed, gospel singer. A devout Christian, a Jesus Boy as Scarlett would call him, or Angel face. Noah has no business with Scarlett, especially, as she was being blackmailed for murder and an enemy from the past has resurfaced. As a fast rising gospel song superstar with a bishop father, he needed to stay clean in the eyes of the press, but - Scarlett was about to stain him - literally.
This book is an adrenaline pumper. The many intrigues will keep you at the edge. It's a beautiful story of God's infinite forgiveness. It's a workbook of how Christians should be with sinners. It's not our place to judge, but to encourage them to do better.
Whew. Let me be upfront: this book was a struggle.
Among a Thousand Stars tried to do a lot—romance, crime, mystery, and a heavy dose of faith-based reflection—but for me, it ended up being a confusing and disjointed experience. I found the narrative incredibly hard to get into. I kept waiting for that spark, that moment where the story would grab me... but it never came.
The writing felt pretentious, like it was trying too hard to sound profound, and that just took me out of the story even more. The characters didn’t leave a strong impression—honestly, I can’t even tell you what I liked about them because nothing truly resonated. And some plot points? Just not realistic. Not grounded. It felt like the story was doing too much, and in trying to juggle all these genres and messages, it dropped the ball completely.
Reading this book wasn’t just disappointing—it was exhausting. It drained me. I kept flipping pages, hoping it would get better, but it never did. If anything, it left a lasting impression—and unfortunately, it wasn’t a good one.
❌ Final Thought: Not every book is for everyone, and this one definitely wasn’t for me. I won’t be reading more from this author.
It made me rethink the love of God and brings to mind that place in the Bible where Jesus left 99 sheep to go in search of one.
Although I don't know where to categorize it because it didn't tune down some sensuality that faith-based novels are known for. But one thing stands out and that is redemption.
The story is raw and truthful. So real as reality can be. And I love the Nigerianness in the MC Female's voice.
Christian books aren’t boring and this story is the prefect example. I haven’t been able to put this book down since I started . The twists, turns , emotions, and mind blowing moments were perfectly executed. Rosemary, you did an amazing job with this story !
I can’t wait to read more of your books , highly recommend. Just know that what ever your story God has your back if only you trust in him.
Themes explored in this book: Christianity , SA, murder, prostitution, extortion, pure love , family secrets & dynamics and redemption!
I read this book so fast because it gripped me from the first page. I loved Noah and Scarlet's story because it didnt follow the usual bad boy - good girl.
It reminded me of Redeeming love by Francine Rivers and so if you are a big fan of that book, I guarantee you that you will absolutely love this book.
Everything about this book from plot, to story to writing style, to fun and relatable characters, all checked. I just couldnt believe that the both of them were able to keep the sizzling chemistry under wraps and didnt get the sheet rumpled😂😂
This is a redemption Christian romance and found family book . The author’s ability to portray raw human experiences with such nuance is commendable. Rosemary Okafor beautifully captures Adannaya's journey of healing and redemption, with rich character development and a poignant narrative. The pacing is slow but it builds up to a beautiful love story, the emotional depth and lyrical prose more than compensate. It's a novel that will make you reflect on how love can be your strength and how it is found in unexpected places. A beautifully written book.
I feel and breathe every emotion in this book. It was mind-blowing. How can a church, Jesus boy like Noah fall completely in love with a hard core street girl like Akunnaya aka Scarlet? This love self?
Akunnaya, a beautiful soul in a bitter, battered ,beaten and abused body, trying to survive on the streets of Montreal, Canada while still supporting an ungrateful, self-entitled family, actually finds herself falling for a clean boy like Noah? Does a hardcore whore have a heart that can truly love?
She was indeed the death of him. Her past and present life threatened to end his life but God came through like HE always does for both the faithful and unrepentant sinners like Scarlet.
It was a story of prostitution, drug abuse, murder and mayhem and pure, undiluted, unwavering faith in the Almighty! It was a story of love and redemption. It was a page turner! I loveet it!
The fact that this book got so much hate and criticism because the male lead is Christian is beyond me, I think sometimes Christian's forget that God is a God of love and forgiveness, was he supposed to condemn her, judge and forsake her????? Just because she lived for the world doesn't mean she can't turn a new leaf and live for God.
Now this a book that I'll definitely recommend, 5 stars all the wayyyy
This book had me feeling everything. The emotions, the tension, the quiet kind of love that grows through pain and healing
Rosemary Okafor really captured it all. The characters felt so real and imperfect, yet easy to root for.
It’s one of those Nigerian romance stories that stays with you long after you finish. Beautifully written, heartfelt, and full of depth. Definitely one of my favorites from her
Rating: 4.5 stars This book perfectly delivered the bad girl, good boy trope, and I loved every second of it. Noah and Scarlett’s story was captivating and surprisingly motivating. The touch of thriller and mystery on Scarlett’s side added just the right amount of drama, making the plot even more adventurous and exciting to read. An enjoyable and engaging read overall!
This book was too good.I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of recommending it . And yea, I think it’s a Christian romance book. It shows how love is the greatest redemption. Despite our mistakes and shortcomings , God’s love and grace are always available to us
It felt like I wasn’t a Christian romance novel the insults with God’s name and the sexual scenes were too much and the relationship between them felt like she was leading Noah away from his relationship with God because he started enjoying lustfulness and start saying saying it’s okay
This is one of my best read of all time This story brought out so many emotions from me I love how God’s love was portrayed in this book and omg Noah🥺I loved how much he loves scarlet and was not scared to show it Definitely a must read, I highly recommend it Rating: 5⭐️
I don’t even know where to start my review from. This book left me absolutely breathless 😭💖. It’s raw, romantic, convicting, and sooo different from the usual Christian romance you may be used to.
📖 Meet Scarlett. She's flawless, fierce, and unashamed. She’s climbed the ladder in Montreal’s streets by selling what shouldn’t be sold, and she wields her beauty like a weapon. Then there’s Noah, a music-loving, Jesus-following guy whose neat little world shatters the day his path collides with hers. Two parallel lines that should never have crossed… and yet, the pull between them is undeniable. But is it just attraction, or something deeper orchestrated by God? 👀✨
💭 My thoughts: This book was everything. The character dynamics were electric ⚡, the emotions gut-punching, and the redemptive undertones so powerful. Scarlett and Noah’s journey had me rooting, weeping, and praying right alongside them. I
⚠️ Caveat: The story doesn’t shy away from coarse language or emphasizing sensual attraction. It’s grittier than your typical clean romance, but that’s what makes the redemption arc hit even harder. 🩷 In essence, this book isn't meant for an audience less than 18+ years.
If you love Christian romance that dares to step outside the box, wrestle with brokenness, and show God’s grace in the darkest corners, you NEED to read Among a Thousand Stars. 🌌
Special thanks to the author for sending me a physical copy of this book sometime early last year. My very first physical author mail. I'll never forget that or take it for granted. 🥹🫂
