What began as a border struggle has now erupted into open conflict. Humanity and the Viskr are at each other's throats, and for the first time in a generation war is a credible threat to the Many Worlds of mankind.
Operative Elm Caden however suspects the Viskr did not attack humanity first, and he is determined to root out the fugitives he believes orchestrated the hostilities. The end people, you just want to scream when you get to the end! What happens next? I need to know!
The second instalment does everything you want it to do. The mystery deepens, the twists come thick and fast, enemies get closer to that battle you are just dying for them to have.
The author has done a fine job again, striking a good balance of keeping you captivated and wanting more but just keeping what you want out of reach. Actually it's quite mean. Bring on the next.

Great science fiction from a fantastic newer writer in the genre. Venture is someone that I'll be watching for years to come and I've already started book three in this series.
I don't know what I like more, the psychotic killers, the conspiracies, the assassins, explosions, mass space warfare, or mysterious aliens from the void. This book, and this series, has a little bit of everything and it's the best of it's type that I've found since the Spinward Fringe series.

So bloody good! From start to finish it had me rapt. The end is infuriatingly good. Bring on September 2015. Easily my favourite scifi series and universe

Well, I have to say I am very, very disappointed in this book... for not being more popular than it is!
I've read self published books with literally over 1,000 reviews and those ones have terrible, terrible dialogue, poor predictable plots and world building that was either lazy or completely absent.
This series does not ail you with those problems yet it's sitting on 28 ratings right now...? What!? I guess marketing is everything haha. The only thing I could complain about is that these two books were pretty long and like, that's the only reason it's taken me so long to get through them I'm a slow reader.
The story in this book was very engaging, it's the kind that drags you on from chapter to chapter whilst you try to figure out what the hell is going on! The characters are for the most part three dimensional and quirky, likeable, endearing even, and the world building isn't the best I've ever seen but it's up there, detailed enough to give me a firm grip of the universe and not overly detailed so as to bring me out of the story, I feel that the author struck a good balance here.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and am eagerly anticipating the second, but I am taking a small break to read starship troopers before I jump onto book 3!

January 12, 2018Picks up seamlessly where the first book left off and ramps up the tension. The universe very imaginative and the characters feel three-dimensional. Events unfold at a good pace, keeping you turning page after page.
